Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 9/10
I started Never Ending Summer purely because of Daniel. I first noticed him in Only for Love and immediately thought, this guy is going to do numbers—he’s tall, handsome, and has so much screen presence. The female lead also caught my attention after Youthful Glory, so I already had high expectations going in.
I’m happy to say this drama completely won me over.
This is such a heartwarming, touching love story. I absolutely love dramas where the male lead is completely down bad for the female lead, and this one delivered. Watching their relationship grow from their high school years into adulthood was beautiful, and I loved seeing how they supported and protected each other through every stage of life.
The high school storyline was one of my favorite parts. It built their relationship naturally and made every emotional moment later on hit even harder. The grandmother’s storyline was also incredibly touching, and I loved how everything tied together by the end.
The chemistry between the leads was excellent. Their romance felt genuine, the emotional moments landed, the kiss scenes were great, and I found myself rooting for them from beginning to end. The side characters also added a lot to the story, even if the second male lead was as annoying as ever.
Overall, this drama is warm, emotional, and full of heart. It isn’t as life-changing for me as dramas like Speed and Love, so I can’t quite give it a perfect score, but that’s more about my personal favorites than any major flaw in the drama itself.
Final Verdict:
A sweet, heartfelt romance with wonderful chemistry, lovable characters, and a beautifully developed relationship. If you’re looking for a comforting love story with a devoted male lead, I’d definitely recommend it.
⭐ 9/10 ❤️

story about people who had everything despite having nothing
The best thing about this drama is the natural acting. It is hard to describe just how perfectly the roles were played- the naturalness in their expressions, eyes, and voices. You can't simply fake that kind of chemistry between actors; they truly felt it. Another element was the music; it perfectly mirrored the emotions driving the characters at any given moment, and the score itself was beautifully composed. The visuals, scenes, landscapes, and overall aesthetic were a feast for the eyes. The story itself is far from shallow; it’s about two people with traumatic pasts whose love for each other became their salvation. While I would rate the story overall 8, I want to distinguish between two aspects: I rate the romance a 10 and the work-related storyline an 8. I’ll admit there were work scenes I skipped and scenes of the second couple also, which is why the overall rating isn't perfect. This is a drama for those who, like me, love the kind of romance that reaches you right through the screen at home. It is a deep, sensitive, and passionate story about people who had everything despite having nothing.

Summer that ended early
I enjoyed this drama alot but there were alot of plot inconsistencies and then the cuts and unedited scenes made it harder to understand. I really enjoyed the teen arc especially when they ran away. That was very cute and It felt like teenagers were running away leaving behind no worries in the world. But in the adult arc, the only complain I have other than the plot was the reconciliation episode. The intimate scenes were just censored anyway and we all know China's Censorship System so I wish considering that they would've given us a proper scene of them reconciling and they both broke eachother's heart so badly so how come the hate didn't even last an episode? I really wanted to see a hate era and then a reconciling scene where they tell eachother about what really happened 10 years back and why Zhou Wan broke up with him. But suddenly he knew that his grandpa was involved? They could've given us 12-13 episodes of the adult arc and I really wish we could've had a proper wedding. But other than that, everything was perfect. I enjoyed their teen arc and when Zhou Wan proposed and the breakup arc was so sad 😭 I genuinely felt bad seeing lu xixiao cry. The ending was perfect 💞Was this review helpful to you?

Welcome to the New Era of C-Dramas 2026: Heroines Who Can Cook
This drama already deserves an "8/10A) Finally.
Finally, a heroine who actually knows how to cook.
Together with *Love Has Fireworks*, currently airing, that makes... "two"
Two.
Let me repeat that for the television historians in the back: "two modern C-drama heroines who can cook something other than instant noodles." Future scholars will probably identify this era as a major milestone in television history.
I've also noticed another trend recently, and this one is even more interesting: male leads are finally becoming... human beings.
B) Less "Prince Charming, certified to satisfy every teenage fantasy and personally approved by every grandmother as the ideal son-in-law," and more imperfect, believable men. After years of romances where the male lead often felt like an impossibly handsome golden retriever whose life's mission was to worship a heroine who could be equally incompetent and ungrateful
C) Really? Is this actually happening?
Here, the heroine even says "thank you."** (Granted, it takes until Episode 29, but let's not be greedy.) The writers are so daring that she even proposes to the hero herself and says "I love you"!!! about,...10 times!! We've gone from one extreme to the other.
At this rate, she'll probably end up proposing on behalf of half the heroines from the 2025-2026 dramas who never got around to it—either because they ran out of episodes, or because two extra lines of dialogue would have increased the actors' salary. Apparently, kisses are considered more efficient. This drama generously gives us both.
The male lead, meanwhile, is loyal, passionate... slightly obsessed... but also vulnerable. He gets scared. He isn't afraid to be emotionally fragile
D) Now, on a more serious note
The drama works almost entirely because of the chemistry between the two leads. Their relationship develops naturally, never feeling forced by the script. I believed in their love story from beginning to end. What especially stood out to me was the way the actor looks at the actress. His gaze feels the precise emotions reflecting his character.
They're surrounded by an impressive collection of ridiculously beautiful supporting actors, probably assembled as insurance in case the main couple failed to carry the show—which, fortunately, they never do.
The writing, however, is considerably less convincing.
The series introduces numerous compelling storylines—the mother, the brothers' relationship, the father and his sons, several family conflicts—but leaves them unresolved. Everything ultimately exists to serve the central romance.
And honestly...
that's exactly what I'm choosing to judge.
The soundtrack is fairly basic, perhaps even below expectations. The cinematography is soft, romantic, almost marshmallow-like, with beautiful scenery showcasing China, but without much artistic ambition.
This is especially disappointing considering that art is supposedly at the heart of the story.
The male lead actually has the perfect casting for an artist. He has that slightly unconventional, poetic presence. But the drama never explores it. Instead, it falls into the familiar office-drama routine, reducing painting to little more than a day job.
I wanted a genuinely obsessive artist. Someone a little reckless, someone consumed by creation. The ingredients were all there: overwhelming passion, emotional intensity... but everything remains strangely restrained, almost censored. As a result, the character loses much of what could have made him truly memorable.
Likewise, the artistic world itself never comes alive. We never really feel immersed in it. The paintings that supposedly represent a lifetime of devotion mostly end up serving as an elegant prop for the final marriage proposal.
Beautiful...
but ultimately decorative.
Yes, the drama is superficial but effective
When it comes to portraying first love, youthful mistakes, the courage it gets the emotional beats exactly right.
If I judge it purely as a romance drama , it's a 10/10. If I judge it as a complete drama, considering everything it set out to explore and how much of that it actually accomplished, it's a 4.5/10 . But emotionally, it captivates you.

my first cdrama, the beginning of a wonderful journey
i never thought in my life I could finish a drama in less than 1 week and be that obsessed with themWhat makes me stuck is the original background of the main lead; she is strong; she is ready to lie, to act, and to even deceive us, the watchers, during the whole drama. The slow development of their relationship from strangers to friends to lovers to coworkers—their chemistry is insane; their eyes do not lie. I smell love in the air between the two actors. From the beginning till the end, nothing is sure; you just pray. I want Lu Xixiao to be happy and get what he really deserves. Lu Xixiao is one of the greenest flags ever with Wan Zhou; especially when they become so close, he is the true definition of how a man must love and sacrifice for his lover. This drama is recommended to those who have lost faith in love; this drama makes you fall in love with life again. Their voyage from teenager to adult summary: If two people are meant for each other, fate will work in their favor, and they will reunite again.

The cinematography, the visuals, the BGM and overall atmosphere add another layer of charm to the series. The performances by the cast bring depth to the characters and make their emotions feel genuine.
Overall, Never Ending Summer is a hearfelt and emotional watch, a beautiful story about love, friendship, change, and the unforgettable moments that shape who we become

must-watch! teenage love and family problems are the main topics
I absolutely loved this drama! I had high expectations and they were all met! It was exactly as it was shown in the trailers. The atmosphere of the drama is impossible to describe in words, you just need to feel it! Each scene made me excited! And all I could do is to hope for new eps to come out right after another! All I can say is that this cdrama is a truly masterpiece! China is clearly surpassing Korea, especially this year! Every new release is a hit that brings so much joy to the viewers!Speaking about plot, I was particularly moved by their teen dating era. The way they escaped from all the troubles and enjoyed their time together! They looked incredibly sincere, tender, and loving, and they cared deeply for each other! I was captivated by those scenes.
For me, this drama had a vibrant beginning, a rich middle, and a satisfying ending. The entire plot was perfectly crafted and executed. There was no dry middle or clichéd ending; everything was just right!
I can't help but mention how Lu XiXao pursued her despite everything and never gave up on her.
Additionally, I can't overlook how beautiful they were as adults! I mean, their outfits and style were on top during the whole drama. They both looked insanely gorgeous and matched each other!
I’m delighted with the chemistry between Ke Yu and Shang En! Their gazes at each other screamed of the great love between Zhou Wang and Lu Xixiao! Both actors delivered an outstanding performance!
This drama is a must-watch! It deserves a place at the list of the best dramas of 2026!
I think I’ve never rated a drama that high before! It’s gonna be enjoyable rewatching the drama again and again, looking at perfect match of KeYu and Shang En

some summers you don't want to end, this was one of them
where do i even begin with this drama? the leads alone are reason enough to watch it. their chemistry is absolutely insane, and visually they're such a stunning pairing. they complement each other so well that it's impossible not to get invested in their relationship. the cinematography elevates the entire experience, especially during the outdoor scenes. combined with its warm, sun soaked color palette, it creates a dreamy sense of nostalgia that perfectly captures the feeling of an endless summer.the ost deserves just as much praise. it fits every scene so well without ever feeling forced, and somehow always knows exactly when to come in. there's something so warm and nostalgic about the soundtrack that perfectly matches the drama's summer atmosphere. even after finishing the drama, i found myself going back to a few of the songs because they instantly brought me back to the emotions of those scenes. it really does make the feeling of that "never ending summer" linger long after the drama ends.
now, talking about the plot, this is ultimately a story about two flawed teenagers making decisions they genuinely believed were the best they could make given everything they were dealing with. and yeah, it's frustrating to watch sometimes. you're sitting there thinking, *just talk to each other*, but that's kind of the whole point. they're not making bad decisions out of stupidity. they're making them out of fear, pain, and a complete lack of anyone in their lives who ever showed them how to handle things differently. the angst gets heavy at times, and the misunderstandings are stretched out longer than they probably needed to be. but when you step back and look at who these characters are and what shaped them, it's hard to be too mad at them for it.
the two leads come from completely different worlds, but they're united by the loneliness they've carried for most of their lives. neither of them grew up with the love or support they deserved, so they learned to bottle everything up and deal with it alone. they don't "fix" each other overnight. instead, they slowly become a place where the other feels safe enough to let their guard down. rather than trying to save each other, they simply offer the understanding and comfort that neither of them had ever received before.
of course, all of that eventually leads to the major incident that tears them apart, and it's probably the most divisive part of the drama. i've seen a lot of people blame zhou wan for the separation and call her selfish, but i honestly couldn't disagree more. when you look at the situation from her perspective, her decision makes complete sense. she wasn't acting out of malice or because she didn't love him enough. she was being emotionally manipulated by an adult who knew exactly which of her fears and insecurities to exploit.
calling her selfish completely overlooks who she's been as a character from the very beginning. almost every major decision she makes is for someone else, whether it's her grandmother or the male lead. if anything, her biggest flaw is that she's too selfless. she constantly puts other people before herself, even at the expense of her own happiness. that doesn't mean every decision she made was the right one, but i never found them out of character or unbelievable. if anything, they felt painfully realistic for someone with her upbringing and the emotional burdens she had been carrying for so long.
the separation ends up leaving both of them absolutely devastated, and there's one particular scene with the male lead that completely broke my heart. the way the actor shifts through so many emotions in such a short span of time is genuinely impressive. you can feel the confusion, desperation, heartbreak, and helplessness all at once, and it never feels overacted. it was one of the few scenes that made me stop and just sit with everything he was feeling. without a doubt, it's one of the strongest performances in the entire drama.
fast forward ten years, the reunion arc feels noticeably rushed, and there are quite a few moments where the editing makes the story difficult to follow. scenes are cut abruptly. from what i've read, a lot of this was due to heavy censorship and last-minute cuts, which explains why the first few episodes of the reunion arc feel so disjointed. it's a shame because you can tell there was meant to be much more there.
the good news is that this only lasts for a handful of episodes. after that, the editing becomes much smoother. there are still a few noticeable cuts here and there, but they don't really affect the viewing experience anymore. what i appreciated most was that the leads finally started doing what i'd been hoping for all along: they actually sat down and talked to each other. instead of relying on endless misunderstandings, they began communicating honestly.
from that point on, the leads' relationship finally starts progressing. the rest of the plot is still a little rushed, but honestly, i couldn't bring myself to care anymore. after spending so many episodes waiting for them to finally communicate, it was so refreshing to see them actually sit down, talk through their feelings, and face things together. seeing them grow into a healthier relationship made all of my earlier frustrations much easier to overlook.
i also have to mention the proposal scene because it might genuinely be one of my favorite proposal scenes i've seen in a drama. it's heartfelt, creative, and so perfectly suited to these characters that it never feels over the top or forced. if you end up skipping this drama, at least do yourself a favor and watch the proposal scene in the final episode.
the ending completely won me over. despite all the flaws, the final few episodes gave me exactly what i had been hoping for. honestly, this is one of those dramas that's best enjoyed when you don't overthink every little detail, and that's exactly what i did. my expectations for modern romance dramas aren't particularly high to begin with, and i'm a sucker for feel good romances, so i ended up enjoying this far more than i expected. i'll definitely be rewatching all my favorite scenes, even if i end up skipping some of the filler along the way lol :)

✨Misunderstandings: The Extended Director's Cut — But They Cooked at the End✨
Saw a few clips of the leads and thought, “Damn, these two have chemistry.” They immediately convinced me to give this drama a shot. Turns out the chemistry was so strong it had to carry the entire script on life support. The premise hooked me immediately, I genuinely love the female lead, and like I said, the chemistry? Absolutely criminal. Every time they’re together, you remember why you haven’t rage-quit yet.
Unfortunately, the writers seem to believe that happiness is illegal.
The amount of push-and-pull, unnecessary misunderstandings, and conflicts that could’ve been solved with one honest conversation became genuinely exhausting. At some point I had to put the drama on hold because it felt like I was watching the same argument play out with different outfits.
I knew the high school timeline would be a big part of the story, but I definitely wasn’t expecting it to take up two-thirds of the drama. By the time we finally reached the adult timeline, I felt like I had personally aged ten years too.
Then we jump ten years into the future… and somehow the male lead manages to be even more frustrating than he was in high school. Sir, we understand you’re the CEO of Yearning Industries™, but damn… my brother in Christ, you’re thirty. Use your words.
I genuinely believe the writers had a whiteboard that said:
❌ Communication
✅ Misunderstanding #48
✅ Last-minute interruption
✅ Someone walks away dramatically
Rinse. Repeat.
That said… I’m too invested to quit now. At this point I’m watching partly because I genuinely want to see these two happy, and partly because I just want to cross the finish line. 😂
Sooo, will I finish it? Absolutely.
Am I enjoying myself?
…Your Honor, that’s a complicated question.
UPDATE: Well... I'll be damned.
The last four episodes were actually delightful, y'all. They single-handedly repaired the emotional damage the previous twenty-something episodes inflicted on me and finally gave me everything I'd been begging for.
The leads reconciled, they're ridiculously adorable together, and the female lead spends the rest of the drama absolutely showering our CEO of Yearning Industries™ with affection—which, let's be honest, our longing king had been waiting approximately 84 business years for.
So yes, against all odds, the writers actually locked in for the finale. After a handful of frustrating episodes in the modern arc, the ending is surprisingly close to perfection.
Consider this my formal apology to the last five episodes. They understood the assignment.

Summertime Sadness... in a good way :)
This got a lot of traction early on because of how "sad" it was. Yes, the setting is a bit sad in the beginning, but brightens up pretty quickly, and easily has become one of those nostalgic-vibe dramas. Especially because of the time skip from high school to adult. And all rainbows and unicorns is BORING imo. Never Ending Summer had a good balance of many emotions🔥I loved the story. The hardship the female faces was a lot more than usual, and although the male also has his problems, it's nothing compared to hers. The gradual development of their relationship from classmates to ILL DIE FOR YOU lovers was the highlight of the drama, with good side plot as well. The unromantic part of the story was not very appealing, and the way they sort of handle it until the last few episodes was a bit lacking, almost in a way where they meant to highlight the romance more. And their ups and downs of the relationship itself was also quite a rollercoaster so even that alone was enough of a story.
I. LOVE. ANGST. So we know already based on the synopsis, no spoiler, that they separate after that one summer. I was looking forward to the time slip the most, and it did NOT disappoint. I loved it. They did that part so👏🏻 so👏🏻 well. And then after that ended, it was sort of boring. But still, the breakup and reunion makes up for it. The ending also felt quite rushed. So for my preference story wise: reunion>high school>after they get together again at the end. I don't think it's the type of drama I'll constantly rewatch, but I'll remember it for a while.
Casting was perfect. They honestly look so good together, especially that HEIGHT DIFFERENCE. Their chemistry was off the charts, and it's just thanks to both of them equally, always looking so great with whomever they act with. This was actually the first drama of both actors I really liked. Hope to see them again soon!
Always sad when a good happy ending drama ends 😭 bye bye

Good Girl x Bad Boy with A Pinch of Teenage Angst and Chaebol Family Soap Opera
Disclaimer: This review only covers the first 17 episodes, so please do not attack me for marking it as completed. I need to do so in order to make a full yapping about this series as I'm totally pissed off after watching it.I don't even have the slightest idea of the reason I'm coming to "Never-Ending Summer". I did try to read the novel once, but goodness only knows why, it's so full of violence and sexual contents which discourages me to continue - oh yeah, the ML is also a total jerk who only knows to flirt with other pretty girls since he's a carefree chaebol boy. I couldn't care less about that. However, when words got out that Zhou Keyu and Bao Shang'en would star this drama, I reminded myself it wouldn't do much harm to try watching a bit, 'cause I like Keyu (he's a super-duper pretty boy and a sexy one on top of that). So, let's see my take on "Never-Ending Summer".
The story tells us the angsty romance story between Zhou Wan and Lu Xixiao. Zhou Wan is a straight-A student whom the teachers always brag about. She also has a nice and kind-hearted personality and is extroverted enough to build a connection within her classmates. However, nobody ever knows her family condition and that she's now living in a run-down apartment with her sickly grandmother. To pay her grandma's medical bill, Zhou Wan becomes a manipulative person and secretly works as a tutor by posing as a college student looking for part-time job. Sometimes, she also makes note and sells them to a nearby bookstore, hoping that her school friends will buy dozens of them. Zhou Wan comes from a broken family as her father had died during a factory accident and her mother Guo Yan (better known as Guo Xiangling) fled to the Lu Family to have a better life, preferring to abandon her biological daughter with her grandma. On the other hand, Lu Xixiao is your typical bad boy with a rebellious streak against his controlling family. He has zero interest in studies but is zealous over painting (as painting is his mother's favorite hobby). Xixiao accidentally meets Zhou Wan in an abandoned swimming pool behind their school and she helps to tutor him so that he can go abroad to delve more into the painting world. Since then, the two develop an unusual bond and become each other's emotional anchor since they both come from dysfunctional families. Nevertheless, there will always be obstacles hampering their relationship. As they approach their adult years, their love and loyalty are tested repeatedly, and they finally find their true selves within the storm.
So, what can I say about the plot? Well, nothing much to say maybe, because the story is so awfully generic that even writers who love rich-boy-x-poor-girl trope know how to combine this spice into a hot mess. I grow frustrated over times as I watch this drama and always skip endlessly as the plot rumbles with a pace of a snail. Zhou Wan grows into a frustrating character as she always gives mixed signals to Xixiao. Well, she only approaches him so that she can have her revenge against her bitchy mommy and extract money from her to pay for grandma's hospital bill. Unbeknownst to Xixiao, the pair of mother and daughter has concocted scheme that will threaten the couple's relationship. All I see from Zhou Wan is crying like a little baby, mumbling about suicide after grandma dies, breaking down in front of Xixiao, being bullied by a gang of thugs, and complaining interminably to Jiang Yan (her neighborhood friend). However, the next day, she will turn into a completely different person and attempts very hard to make Xixiao hate her, like gurl, can you be more specific about your feeling - like you love him or not? If no, please leave Xixiao alone before he hates you that much. But she doesn't seem to be aware of her actions and acts like a double-faced liar instead. For Xixiao, I don't know why you always have to listen to your sugar daddy and listen to every of his order. Firstly, you want to escape abroad then he threatens to sell your mommy's residence. Secondly, you want to play along with Zhou Wan, then he grounds him in the Lu mansion. Thirdly, grandpa intervenes as well and wants Zhou Wan to stay away from you. Okay, this is getting more and more tedious and I don't care the single fuck you want to do anymore. I'm also tired of seeing him repeatedly forgiving Zhou Wan despite her manipulative behavior. After the forgiving, they will act as if nothing happened, then fluffy couple scenes will be thrown in your frame and you are going to see how both of them flirt endlessly, including kissing, I guess.
In the above paragraph, I've said pretty clearly that I don't like the main couple. Now, let me list what I also dislike from this drama. Firstly, congratulation for the bitchy mommy Guo Yan/Guo Xiangling for being so awfully selfish and abusive that I hate her the most. Secondly, the whole Lu family (except for Xixiao's auntie) for being so fucking lucrative and only thinking about their company and whatsoever. Thirdly, the second couple Jiang Fan and Gu Meng for having the most lackluster bickering relationship - I see no spark between these two people. Fourthly, Jiang Yan and his mommy - mommy previously had an affair with sugar daddy Lu and she got pregnant with Jiang Yan, then the two of them were kicked out of the Lu mansion due to their underprivileged economic background. That's why she always encourages Jiang Yan to loathe the Lu family, even though not all people are the same as sugar daddy. Fifthly, Jiang Yan gives mixed signal as well, sometimes being hostile to Xixiao, and sometimes secretly helping the couple to escape by having meaningless talk with sugar daddy. Sixthly, the hooligan Luo He keeps abusing Zhou Wan and uses violence to harm her, and yet his elusive gang always disappears before the police comes. Seventhly, Xixiao always comes to Zhou Wan's rescue whenever she is harassed by Luo He's gang, like they are in some kind of mafia mini dramas. I don't have any idea about the stabbing scene, but that comes off as cheesy to me.
Now, to the acting. All the actors have performed very well according to the script, and I appreciate all their hard works. This is my third drama of Bao Shang'en after the reboot of "The Legend of Condor Heroes" and "Generation to Generation". I feel Shang'en still has room for improvement for her next roles, and she radiates the bubbly yet resilient and independent aura of Zhou Wan seamlessly, proving herself as a promising future actress in C-drama land. Meanwhile, Zhou Keyu has come out of his comfort zone and has better micro-expressions which are shown during the scene of Zhou Wan lying to her and how he forcefully kisses her in ep 10. Other than the leads, I've only known Fu Weilun from "Extraordinary" and Ke Chun from numerous mini dramas. Their performances are so-so, so I don't think I'm going to complain much further. And please tell Ke Chun not to take any of this abusive role in the future. He's too good to become a real rogue juvenile delinquent.
The OSTs are giving mixed signals as well because I like some of them and dislike some too. My favorite will be 梦与环游 by Xu Ziwei and Cui Shiba, Sunburn by Brian Cheng, Frozen Heart by 8Bite and Dyrox, 最蓝核梦 by Murphy's Law band. Other than the songs I list, all sounds kinda meh to me, or maybe I'm too overwhelmed by the shitty stuffs happening in the drama.
Of course, my last words will be do not try to watch this drama unless you're in a total drama slump or you want to see beautiful fashions of the leads here or you need a daily dose of sizzling chemistry of these two people (all is up to you). Thank you for reading my whole yapping and I'm so glad to take everything off my chest. Good luck and happy watching!!!
P.S.
If any of you ever know about an Indonesian novel titled "Long Lost Memories in Daejeon", the ML's tragic backstory is more or less similar to Xixiao's. However, the characterization of the FL is completely different and she's a full-time simp too. On the other note, another Indonesian novel titled "Act of Money" heavily resembles this drama too - ML has a controlling father and FL is a straight-A student but constantly gives mixed signal to the ML and even dares two-timing with the SML (you can imagine him as Jiang Yan 2.0).
Edit:
I'd watched ep 19 - 22 and found out that the kidnapping and stabbing scene is "spectacular" and more or less similar to my imagination. Anyway, I also felt the emotional impact when Xixiao desperately wants to save Zhou Wan - this is the most memorable scene of "Never-Ending Summer" as far as I can reminisce.
