FL is NOT my favorite

By episode 21 I truly hated the FL. What a sanctimonious b*tch. She's mad that he lied about cheating, but it was ok for her to lie about being married. She holds onto a grudge as if it was going to save her pathic life. I'm just mad they ended up together.
The ML needed someone so much better. Usually it's the Mother in Cdramas I dislike. One of my favorite dramas is Lighter & Princess and most everything with Arthur Chen. After the chemistry of Chen and Zhang this was a total miss.

Expected Magic, Got Meh

First of all, I just want to say — if you haven’t watched Lighter and Princess, go watch it 🔥. But if you have already seen it, then please don’t keep too many expectations for this one. I had huge anticipation for Eat Run Love, mainly because I’ve liked Arthur Chen ever since Lighter and Princess 💖. Even though I don’t usually watch this kind of modern romance genre, I still gave it a try… and ahh, what a disappointment it turned out to be 😔.

The story follows Ding Zhi Tong (Zhuang Da Fei), a young woman fresh out of college, who’s passionate about work, running, and building a future through her own strength 🏃‍♀️💼. She meets Gan Yang (Arthur Chen Feiyu) — a cheerful rich boy who falls for her despite their very different worlds. Everything seems sweet and healing until Gan Yang’s family faces a huge financial downfall 💸. Instead of facing it together, he hides the truth and chooses to break up with her 💔. Ten years later, fate brings them back together, but both have changed. It’s no longer about puppy love — it’s about second chances, forgiveness, and growing up through love 🌧️❤️.

Honestly, the premise was initially influential and gave me hope 🌟. I liked seeing Zhi Tong’s determination — she wasn’t some clingy FL waiting for love to fix her life. She had dreams, a career, and her own pace. That part really resonated with me.

The first few episodes had a nice charm. The running scenes, the way they met, their natural banter — it actually felt refreshing 🏃‍♀️✨. And Arthur Chen? Still charming as ever 😍. Even if the script wasn’t perfect, his screen presence carried a lot of warmth.

Also, visually, the drama looks good 🎨 — the city shots, the lighting, the youthful mood, everything felt modern and comforting. For a few moments, I thought this could be another Lighter and Princess type story — emotional but real.

But ahh... after those early episodes, things started falling apart 💔. The writing just couldn’t keep the same energy. The pacing slowed down, and the story began to feel draggy. So many misunderstandings that could’ve been solved with one honest conversation 😩.

The chemistry between the leads also didn’t shine as much as I expected. I kept waiting for that spark 🔥 — the kind of connection that makes your heart ache like in Lighter and Princess — but it never really came. Instead, it felt like the emotions were forced in some scenes, especially after the time-skip.

And seriously, the plot tried to do too much: business collapse, emotional trauma, family drama, career struggle, reunion romance... everything at once 😵‍💫. Instead of being emotional and healing, it felt confusing and scattered.

I also didn’t like how some moments were made overly dramatic just for tears 😢. Like, give me pain with meaning, not just endless sad faces and background music trying too hard.

If you loved The Lighter and the Princess and want something similar, I’d say: give this a try only if you lower your expectations a little. If you expect peak romantic ❤️‍🔥 drama with crisp writing and sizzling chemistry, you might come away feeling like me — a bit let-down.😔

Too much and too long conflict between FL&ML to be enjoyable plus the highly unlikeable FL

I am not impressed with this series. I felt the chemistry was way off between the FL and ML, or to be precise, there was none. The FL actress' lack of emotional depth and flat, mostly sour faced expression and bland performance has totally ruined the supposed love and chemistry between the lead characters. And to save the lack of chemistry Chen Fei Yu has been over acting, way above what a normal love relationship would look like in real life. Hence, this whole "love affair" is far from believable, i.e. a gorgeous, smart, talented, kind, from a privileged background ML falls head over heels for a very plain looking, no personality or talent, stubborn, cold, hateful and mean, materialistic, playing hard to get poor girl. Seriously? Totally unrealistic . All the supposed love scenes look like the actors are just reading off the script, no warmth, or any kind of chemistry. Maybe if they cast a more likeable actress as the FL, at least the romance would have been more believable. Perfect example of wrong casting ruinning a perfectly good story. The second FL / ML romance and chemistry was much better and more believable. And what's with all these career obsessed, hard core aggressive young female characters lacking any feminity or compassion and warmth? I hope young women in real life are not taken in by the b.s. of "career above everything else" as the highly competitive "Profit above integrity" business motto actually doesn't care much about young people or their dreams, profit is the only king.

a good love story

Almost everything portrayed in the drama is exactly in the title. The conflict here is good, which makes the drama worth watching, and I always learn in all these dramas that every relationship should have good communication. Arthur Chen is such a charming actor who makes his dramas more intriguing to watch. If you all are new, Lighter and Princess should be your first stop before this series, and when destiny brings the demon. His chemistry with Sabrina Zhuang is actually great, and I really like it.

Overall, I recommend this drama only if you like series that have simple romance with a little bit of over-the-top conflict to make it more interesting.

Even the 2nd and third lead actors got better storyline!

I don’t know what i did to tolerate and finish this series. For the love of arthur chen maybe? Love the lead actors’ chemistry when they’re not quarelling but it gets irritating when the episodes get boring because the writer made it her mission to drag their separation until the end. The other actors’ story got even better exposure than the two lead. It could have been better, in my opinion.
And no, i will not be rewatching this in the forseeable future.

Trusfratedly clichéd

Eat Run Love eats your sanity, wanting you to runaway & never love. I wanted to pull my hair in frustration. The main leads are the worst characters written & direction was pretty meh too. Not convincing enough to make us believe perhaps.

Terribly clichéd & trusfrating watch. Every other couple except main lead had better chemistry, character arcs & proposals.

Screenplay so bad that it should be studied. ChenFeiYu deserved better. I can't see or feel slightest of chemistry between leads. The FL tops my worst FL characters list ny beating FL of will in spring 🎉 so congrats for that.

I'm sure those who dropped it were never picking it up after seeing reviews. It's a shame that despite loving Arthur Chen, I don't like the drama as much as I wanted to.

> And he annoyed me too as a boy i mean dude if she saying too you that she don't want to be together with you then tf you're still chasing her why? Just let her go.
> Ànd in the last episode she realised she was lonely 🤣.
> I bet the writer is definitely a girl of this series.
> It's weird show in terms of there love story.

Nothing Groundbreaking but an Easy Watch

Ive seen most of the reviews that have said this drama was a cheap knock off of Lighter and Princess. It might be, I dont know, I didnt like Lighter and Princess.

I watched this drama after a few months of a drama slump and throughly enjoyed it. There is nothing revolutionary that we havent seen in dramas before but the main leads were what kept me watching. I would definitely recommend to giving this drama a try.

Alright Execution but Underwhelming for what it could’ve been.

I really like the plot. It had a lot of promise to be a great and intense push-n-pull romance about whether love can be rekindled after a tumultuous ending the first time. It’s a fine show just…underwhelming for the potential intense rollercoaster it could’ve been.

In short, why I didn’t like about the show was it overall felt underwhelming after the they reunite.

Firstly, both the hope and remorse the ML feels after reuniting with the FL and after learning how difficult she grieved their relationship didn’t come across as intensely as I hoped they would.

Secondly, the internal struggle the FL has about hating him while uncontrollably still caring about him and the toll that supposedly takes on her, again, don’t come across as intensely as expected.

Thirdly, personal taste, I don’t particularly enjoy when a show devotes 1/2 - 2/3 of its first episodes to backstory. While I understand it’s to allow the viewers to immerse themselves into their love stoy and better grasp the seriousness of their reunion, that format can, at times, feel a bit like a bait-n-switch regarding what the viewers expected to watch going in.

Lastly, and again a personal taste, after their reunion I wish he wouldn’t have let anything stop him from relentlessly pursuing her while genuinely wanting to have an honest conversation filled with his reason, explanations, and apologies. Instead, his character sort of double downs on the idea of “letting her be happy without me” and “I don’t want to be in the way of her finding happiness” which…again probably aids to underwhelming sense of hope and vigor from his character.
But that’s personal taste. I can see a certain type of beauty in his way of thinking but I don’t think it was how his character should’ve behaved after sensing how in love and regretful he’s supposed to feel towards her. Then again, it’s my belief that at the very least you owe your partner the respect to allow them to make their autonomous decisions regarding the relationships and instead it felt like he missed that mark when he was willing to push her away again/let her go while keeping her in the dark.

I can’t say whether the underwhelming sense comes from the actors, director, or script but it’s a little disappointing for how excited I was to see an intense dynamic and plot like this.

One sided and annoying

Not sure why people want to watch the dating and slow development of a fairly mundane and boring romance. To these people,I say, go out and start dating instead of watching a very ORDINARY boring relationship not worth being shown in a frame for a total 14episodes

And then there's the breakup where the ML is trying so hard, ALL one sided and the woman is so spoiled and annoying. Do Chinese people think it's cool for women to behave like this?

I read from other review that this writer is always doing this. So get this name, remember it and NEVER again watch anything written by this person.AVOID++(don't waste your time

beautiful ending

At first before completing the series i also have some complaints about it, mainly because the fl rejected the male lead a lot (i love feiyu so much, so i couldnt bear to see his character being sad). But after finished watching episode 28, i think both of them have some points and reasonable reasons to decide what they had to decide before, and in the current time, both of them finally admit their own mistakes, their regrets, and both of them are willing to change for the better.

After completing the series, when i rewatch this drama again from the start, i value it more, the drama becomes more beautiful, more make sense, more wholesome. Because of the satisfying and beautiful ending, i appreciate this drama more when i rewatch it.

Thank yuuu my feiyu for making this lovely drama, i know this is your love project, so i value it a lot, and i really appreciate it. Loooveee yuuu 💜💜💜
