Parties & Theories

MY HEART IS MELTING!!!

💕

LONG post, as always.

Lets start off with my predictions for this episode. I was correct with the 2004 flashback of Night's father being shown at the beginning of this episode, so we would most likely see a 2000 flashback of either Day's or Night's mother (probably Day's) next episode. I was correct that the words on the drawings were going to be important (that was easy to predict since they zoom in on those words lol), but I couldn't figure out what they say until I watch this episode. I didn't say this in my last review, but I was correct that Day left a voice message to Night (very minor thing, but I am glad I got it right as this episode really stumped me). I was wrong that Night was snooping in a place he shouldn't be at lol that was his house! He is really taking this curse more seriously than we thought he would as he created an entire detective solving board with news articles and autopsy reports. Lastly, I was wrong that Night was going to be hit by a car, but it looks like he is going to be hit with something in episode 7 (haven't seen episode 6 yet, but I saw the thumbnail of the teaser for episode 7).

About the plot, this episode is the most complex one so far. None of my theories were disproven, but I have no idea on how to connect it to the plot. The scene where Dream almost got injured is scary as it shows the curse getting stronger. Unlike Ozone's razor incident, if Dream made contact with the glass when she fell, she could have died or maybe lose a limb. I am really liking the balance of angst (tension of the curse, solving the mystery) and fluff (relationship building) throughout this entire series, especially this episode. This episode is also the sweetest as I absolutely ADORE the birthday party storyline. I was shocked that Dream & Ozone had this idea to be by themselves when they know it is not safe, but I get it since they got caught up in the moment of making Day & Night happy. I am glad nothing had happened to them (for now). We really get to see the bond between all 4 of them strengthen a lot to the point where Day & Night are actively working together. We got to see Day & Night being investigators and I am loving their partnership. The fact that they show each other what they have instead of hiding it is very telling of their relationship's progress. Plus, Night went all out as he had an entire room full of potential clues like I didn't know he had it in him. I am proud. By the way, I do not blame Day for taking 2 days to figure out what Ozone wrote as it took me an entire week! I finally solved it when I saw the scene of him dumping the drawings on the bed and it zoomed into the 2020 drawing. I was really close, but so far away! Before this episode came out, I thought the "h" looked like a 4 last week, but I didn't consider that all of the letters could be numbers rather than only 1 letter LOL.

As for the acting, I absolutely loved it in this episode. There wasn't anything that I didn't liked. I didn't felt Dew was wooden in this at all. I thought he showed the emotions needed for his character well. Unlike previous episodes, I can see him repressing his emotions like his character should rather than having no emotions by looking at his minor expressions in his eyes. I don't have much to say about the directing or camera work besides that I should increase the score on episodes 3 & 4. Back in episode 3, I didn't like the last scene as it felt like a cliffhanger, but there was no plot tension being built. Also, the next episode didn't begin where episode 3 ended which I thought was strange as it felt like it was building up to that. In this episode, we finally got a continuation of the scene from episode 3 when Night walked down the stairs. It still is weird that they decided to tease a scene in episode 3 and showcase the full scene two episodes later. Also, I didn't like the music choice during the Night scolding Dream scene as it feels too silly for a serious moment. Plus, I didn't like how the directing was for the loophole scene as I was lost and didn't know what they were thinking or searching for (if they were looking for anything specific in mind), but I think I was supposed to be lost like Ozone & Dream, so I didn't took off points for that. Other than that, everything is great!

Onto the theories! (Disclaimer: I am not going to explain my theories that I already have since I did that with my last posts in previous episodes, for the sake of not making this longer than it already is. I am just going to talk about how the events connect to my existing theories.)

I have NO idea on how to read the security camera scene. Some people think the mysterious man could be a future version of Ozone. If that is true, then how & why did he got to present day? Personally, I don't think the time travel theory is true since the mysterious guy looks way older, so he must have traveled to the past by like 2 decades. Plus, the time travel concept tends to get a bit messy, in theory. However, I don't know how to explain the glitch in the footage besides saying that someone hacked the camera or the curse messed with the footage. The January 13th, 2022 date looks very random. I don't know why they picked 2022, maybe it is because it is in the middle between 2020 and 2024. As for the number 13th, it is an unlucky number in Thailand. Also, January is the only month before February. Plus, that date is on a Thursday and February 29th, 2024 is also on a Thursday. I don't know if that is important, but it is something. I also don't know if we will skip forward to that date and if that date means anything.

By the way, I am not throwing the time travel idea in the trash as it is a possibly, especially with the camera angle panning over to Ozone when the security camera glitched.

Speaking about the stalker, I think he is a good guy now. He had a perfect chance to attack them, but didn't. He just stood in front of Dew's house for hours. It looks like he was nervous and was building up the courage to give them the package, but I don't know since he could have dropped it in front of Night. The package looks small enough to be paper like Day's birth notes that was teased for next episode. I don't know what his motive is, but I don't think he is entirely evil. Also, the hand that was holding the birth notes with red ink is probably the professor's (maybe the former) since the hand looks rugged and male.

As for the color theory that Night came up with, I thought that was genius until I looked into it and I realized his theory is wrong lol. Some of the pictures have a balance of light and dark colors where it is hard to tell which color is dominant like in 2000, 2008, and 2012. In 2000, it happened both in daytime & in nighttime as Night's mother died at midnight and Day's mother died at noon, according to the pilot trailer. Plus, Night said the 2016 incident happen at nighttime, but according to the flashback, it happened during daytime. However, he is right that the 2024 incident will happen during daytime since there is a night-day-night-day pattern. The drawings really makes me confident in my theory that someone (*cough* professor *cough*) is involved as there is a person-like figure in the 2000 drawing. Also, I am curious to know when did Ozone drew these drawings like did he drew them one by one as the years passed or all at once? If it is the latter, it seems that 2024 is the last Leap Day. It looks like the 4 planets (maybe representing the 4 of them with the ones of equal size being Day & Night) being in harmony. In the other drawings, it looks like everything is in chaos.

I also saw a really great comment of someone interpreting the drawings like the 2008 one looking like parallel universes representing the sister & uncle dying next to each other and the asteroid crash in the 2020 one looking like Ozone's car crash. I forgot what the rest of the comment said, but those were the main points.

For the next episode, I predict that most or all of the stuff with Dream are dreams lol. The scene with Dream in the car might be true, but it is hard to imagine since Night's house doesn't look like it is on a cliff. Day might not catch the stalker, but the stalker might be very important next episode. Also, it looks like Ozone has a vision or hears the stars in his sleep, which is a first, so he might be able to know the future a bit since he was yelling for Night and something happened to Dream (we will see). I am excited to watch the next episode since it looks like we might find out that Day is the baby (which goes to my theory). Finally, I wonder how next episode will start as there was a lot of clock ticking noises at the birthday party, making me think that something bad will happen at midnight. The curse will probably try again, but will probably fail.

Favorite Scene: Dream & Ozone planning the birthday party at the library (very funny) & the entire birthday party scene (best scene of the entire series) (its so SWEET)

Favorite Character: Day, Ozone, & Dream (I know I said I was going to get rid of this part, but this episode made me add Dream to my favorite characters. I was already liking her, but this episode really skyrocketed her to the top where Day & Ozone are. Hopefully, I will add Night to this list too.) (I am so defensive over Day & Ozone that when the boss referred Ozone's drawings to trash, I was like how dare you?!)

I gave this episode a 10. There were some minor flaws, but the birthday scene really makes up for it.

Now, I am going to binge watch the next few episodes as I am like 4 episodes behind lol!

P.S. Mind the title for this post as I forgot what I originally named this. I came up with a pretty cool title, but I forgot lol (EDIT: I changed the name from Stalkers & Celebrators to Parties & Theories because I wanted to use Stalkers for my next review.)

P.S.S. I am really digging the OST. At first, I didn't vibe with it, but I quickly became accustomed to it as it really suits the mood of the show (despair, sadness, & longing).

P.S.S.S. I am going to take really long in watching the next couple of episodes as writing these reviews takes some time, so if there is anyone reading my long posts, bear with me as I try to catch up and thank you for reading! Btw, if you are wondering, May is really busy with BLs, so I am watching and writing for other shows, which is why I am a bit behind for Leap Day. Plus, I didn't had internet for a week, so that added onto the chaos lol.

P.S.S.S.S. This is the first time where my newest post is not longer than the last one. Woohoo! I am kind of getting better at organizing my thoughts. Last time, it was like 2.5k words. Now, it is 1.7k words. I received some replies and some people like my long posts, so I am glad, but I will try not to sound too repetitive/redundant.

Looking for a loophole

With a lighter atmosphere and more camaraderie episode 5 seems to be putting the series on a new course - possibly towards solving the Leap Day mystery. The script is not perfect though, devoting the first part of the episode to an incomprehensible search for a Leap Day loophole - all because of something Day's teacher vaguely alluded to during class. The story gets better afterwards and - for the first time - Dew and Pahn almost didn't annoy me. Pond and Gun continue to shine, particularly during Day-Ozone scenes.
