Scary but too restrained

I'll be honest, knowing that this show would be directed and written by the same professionals from Pit Babe, I wasn't at all confident about the result.

But thankfully I was surprised because the result here is nothing short of spectacular.

The series is incredible and really manages to create that atmosphere of terror and tension, and the entire police investigation only makes the plot even more interesting and dynamic.

The makeup and special effects deserve a highlight here. As does the art direction and sound design, which are fantastic and manage to create a truly frightening atmosphere.

The acting is good, nothing spectacular, but it works very well within the premise. The characters, however, are somewhat shallow.

Thup is very contradictory. At times he knows everything about rituals, at other times he knows nothing. The series removing him as a suspect in the murders too quickly causes the character to lose a lot of development. He's there, but honestly, his story doesn't say anything.

Singha is competent as a police officer but all the trauma from his sister's death is something that comes and goes as the script deems convenient. And this only has a real impact at the end.

Sey and Darin are there but at no point do they convince as forensic scientists.

But what really bothers me, and where the series starts to lose me, is the lack of courage to kill its characters. Only extras die, and this makes the weight of the ghost's attacks lose impact.

There's no real tension at the end because you know they'll all survive. Detective Khem should have died in the attack in the file room. Darin should have died in the final sacrifice. King's father would also have been a great option.

And the series desperately needed these deaths to make the threat even more real. The final revelation of the killer, I must say, is quite anticlimactic.

Especially when, at the end, Thup casts a spell that frees the souls and everything ends. Couldn't he have done that sooner? It's such a weak resolution that it ruins everything the series had been building up to that point.

It's rushed, it's predictable, it's incoherent.

But that doesn't make the series bad, honestly. Coming from the director and writers it came from, the series was almost too successful. And it is, without a doubt, one of the best BL horror series.

Now, the romance... I felt more chemistry between Singha and King than between the main couple. Thup as a suspect and a shadowy character would have added the right spice to make the romance between them work within the series' premise.

Like watching two separate shows

I actually really enjoyed this show overall, and I genuinely looked forward to it every Friday.

But watching it felt like I was watching two completely different shows at the same time. One is a genuinely strong supernatural horror with ghosts, tension, blood, and a story that keeps you hooked. The other is a romance plotline that feels way weaker in comparison — and the gap between the two is hard to ignore.

The horror works - the pacing and the tension are there, and the story unfolds in a way that actually keeps you invested. The supporting characters were especially strong — well written, well acted, and they added a lot to the atmosphere.

The production value is also genuinely impressive. The staging, costuming, lighting, and post-production all look sharp and intentional. When the show leans into horror, it actually delivers.

The romance side? Not convincing.

Every time the show shifted into the romance, the writing felt less developed.

Singha is supposed to be in his mid-30s and gets teased about his age constantly, but then he’s played by a very young-looking 28 year old Pavel, and it just doesn’t land the way the script wants it to.

(On a personal note: there’s also a certain nasal, whiny, slightly juvenile character style that shows up in a lot of Thai romances, and I personally find it extremely grating. I won’t get into it too much, but it definitely affected how I experienced some scenes.)

Singha–Thupe's relationship made me uncomfortable in parts. Thupe isn’t just emotionally attached to Singha — he depends on him for shelter and protection (including protection from ghosts). That creates a really uneven dynamic that the show never properly acknowledges. So when it suddenly turns into love declarations, it didn’t feel romantic to me — it felt abrupt, and honestly unsettling.

Also, the sweetness of the romance moments felt really out of place inside a story built around death and fear. Instead of feeling like a contrast that adds warmth, it often felt like it belonged to a completely different show.

One a side note: this might be true sbout many thai productions, but in this case the product placement was particularly painful.

I understand that sponsorships are necessary, and I’m not against product placement in general.

But here it was so repetitive and so forced that it completely pulled me out of the story. Either pick products that can naturally fit into the plot, or write the plot in a way that makes the product feel believable in the scene.

Because I had to fast forward at one point — I was cringing by like the fifth time Thupe was putting a face mask on Singha while people were actively being slaughtered.

Some of the styling decisions were distracting because they were never explained.
Thupe having two-colored eyes was never addressed or served any purpose aside from looking cool, I guess? .
He’s supposed to be a homeless orphan, yet he shows up constantly with straightened highlighted hair and designer outfits. Sey’s red hair also felt really random: if he was supposed to be quirky or rebellious it never manifested in the acting or the writing.

And honestly, if they had gone for a grittier look overall, the gap between the horror plot and the romance plot wouldn’t have felt so massive. The styling made the two sides feel even more disconnected.

I still had a good time watching this. The horror storyline is strong, the supporting characters are great, and the show looks really good.
But the romance side felt rushed, tonally disconnected, and underwritten compared to everything else. If they’d written the romance with the same care they gave the horror plot, this could’ve been genuinely excellent instead of feeling so uneven.

Brave attempt to create a romantic horror BL drama that failed

I’m going to preface my review with the warning for people who are simply fans of PoohPavel because they look cute together on screen and off screen.

I don’t watch dramas just to have something in the background while I’m doing something else. I watch fully engrossed in every detail because I also write and I’m always looking for fresh ideas or interesting delivery methods. And of course, I also watch to get away from real life. The drama has to be entertaining for me to like it. And I consider it entertaining if I have to go to sleep or do some adulting, and instead I keep on watching TV.

Sadly, Goddess Bless You From Death did not deliver. Perhaps I set my expectations way too high after seeing a trailer and then seeing the ratings.

I honestly only saw this duo in PitBabe when it came out, and I never watched the second season because I remember not being overly into it. I saw too many really good BL dramas to remember their acting in PB.

Let’s start from the beginning.

The drama had an interesting and promising premise and I was waiting for things to happen, but everything was just unveiling very slow and there wasn’t anything particular engaging happening on screen.

The bones were there, but the execution and the writing wasn’t very good. I think writing, specifically character interaction and dialogues were poor and sometimes cringey.

The supernatural concept was quite interesting but again all logic was just ignored in most on screen scenarios.

Let’s move on to the romance part.

Again, considering the premise given to us, so much could have been done with Thup and Singha’s a relationship development. Instead, we just have Thup insert himself into Singha’s house and do a couple of chores and that basically turns them into a couple. Angst and real conflict were lacking. Considering we had a policeman and a witness/a person of interest crossing the line, there was so much potential for more. It just felt like a very lazy writing. As if someone said ‘OK, we have a lot of supernatural and freaky stuff, so we don’t really need to make romance interesting.’

There were only two interesting moments between the lead couple, counting the first meeting and the first kiss.

As far as chemistry goes, Pooh and Pavel actually do pretty well. Despite some very abhorrent acting for the most portion of the drama, the intimate scenes seem very natural, which I appreciate. I’ve seen some dramas with amazing acting, but when it came to intimate scenes, acting was immediately downgraded. Also, if you’re going into this show because you have seen this duo in PitBabe, do not expect the same kind of steam. This show is rated 13+ which kind of baffled me a little bit when I started watching, but once we got to the intimate moments, I realized why it was rated like this. The chemistry is there, but this is not the show that concentrates too much on physical relationship between the characters. Which can be a breath of fresh air, if you are looking for less steam and more plot.

Unfortunately, while the plot was not bad, I still found myself constantly taking breaks. At some point watching the drama felt like a chore. I wanted it to be over with so I could watch the next one. Mostly I kept on watching because the rating is extremely high and I wanted to see why. I still haven’t found the answer to this question after watching all 13 episodes.

Now let’s talk a little bit about the acting. As I’ve mentioned earlier, it’s been a while since I’ve seen PitBabe. But I feel almost as if Pooh’s acting has gotten worse. I saw some comments online where fans were defending him because he’s too young. I’m sorry but too young is not an excuse. If you want to be a professional actor, you need to work on your craft. And if you have 3 major dramas under your belt, you need to be somewhat capable. No one‘s asking for Oscar worthy acting chops, but I expect decent skill from someone with such a huge fandom and a drama rated above 8.5.

I think Pavel’s acting was fine. I didn’t find anything distracting. However, Pooh really needs to work on his facial expressions and micro expressions. In half of the situations where he is supposed to convey a specific feeling, he just smiles. At some point, it becomes distracting because that’s his reaction to pretty much anything. And you start wondering if he’s playing a character on spectrum.

And I’m not sure why no one is directing him because he does certain scenes where he needs to express anger or sadness really well. His kissing scenes are also fine, but some of the other reactions he just cannot pull off. I’m honestly hoping this is just poor directing because if the show they have announced just recently where he’ll play Grim Reaper is going to have the same expression on his face, I’m not going to watch anymore dramas from this duo.

I also want to note that I am not bashing the actors in any way. I think it’s admirable that they are pursuing their dreams and that they are not afraid to place themselves in such a niche sector of TV dramas.

However, my expectation is that if you are picked up for a leading role again, I want acting thats’s believable or passable at the very least. Regardless of my thoughts, I still respect the actors and I hope they do well, even if what I saw did not appeal to me. I’m not a spiteful person. If something is not up to my liking doesn’t mean that people should not be acting.

Finally, I want to comment on the subtitle translation. I think confusing pronouns ‘he’ and ‘she’ is nearly impossible. I first noticed the incorrect translation when Sey referred to Darin as she/her. I had to pause and rewind to make sure I wasn’t wrong because the first two episodes the pronounced were ‘he’. Then they were switched to ‘she’ at some point. I couldn’t recollect if it had been mentioned anywhere in the first couple of episode about Darin being trans. But then I started noticing that this was pretty much a common mistake throughout the entire show. Some of the police officers were referred as ‘he’ for eight episodes and then they would become a ‘she.’

It’s not a big deal. I figured this was just a mistake, but it was confusing, especially in light of this being LGBTQ+ show. Getting everyone’s pronouns and gender identity is important to me. It helps to understand the character better. And it’s just general respect.

Overall, Goddess Bless You From Death was indeed a valiant attempt to create a different kind of BL, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t interesting enough for me. The characters were not compelling enough. The writing, specifically dialogues, were not very well done. The romance was kind of subpar. And Pooh needs to work on his acting more.

The rating for the show is kinda inflated in my opinion. Some people may like it. Because apparently a lot already do judging by the reviews, but I have seen much better dramas with lower rating. I think the quality is not quite there.

One thing I really loved about this drama though is the music. There are two gorgeous tracks performed by Pooh and Pavel. I added them to my playlist.

I’m crossing my fingers their next drama is an improvement.

Needed to be blessed from romance

The supernatural mystery mass murder case itself was a fascinating hook with it being interesting to see how inspector Singha investigates and reconciles the evidence and facts of the case in a way that would be acceptable in the eyes of the law as his investigation team is haunted by an aggressive ghost.

Pavel is the strongest actor of the bunch by leaps and bounds as Singha, but the actors who play Thup, Sey, and Darin are all incredibly miscast and out of place in this particular story. The romance plots are the worst pacing hog as none of the pairings have even an ounce of chemistry and made all the worst being played by actors with the weakest acting, completely lacking the range to handle to serious tone of the series. Thup is played is like a child in a grown man's body and sadly that's on the actor Pooh. He's unable to be versatile in portraying a character different than his previous role and can only portray a character that always acts cutesy and petulant. It is a shame, because the character has a lot of interesting potential in the hands of someone with more capable acting abilities. Sey and Darin being miserable ex's are also annoyingly childish and worst utterly uninteresting with neither of the actors being able to bring any charisma to the scenes. They are nowhere near nuanced enough to be a foil to Singha and King's actually interesting complicated fallout from being both professional partners and private situation ship, which organically would be the relationship that most makes sense to be explored by the story. 99 percent of the Sey and Darin screen time does nothing to further the story.

The investigation staff being targeted by the ghost would be a lot more engaging if the story spent more time building their importance as a team outside of just the soulless romances. It's also more interesting that that King also has a dueling motivations between wanting to please his corrupt father and wanting to be a legitimate investigator on his own merits alongside Singha. I hope to see Pavel in lead acting roles outside of the ones contractually mandated to play all his bl love interests.

Supernatural Crime Romance?

The concept of GBYFD was really intriguing to me, and I loved the direction it went with the supernatural elements. While I do wish we got a little more backstory on the rituals and people performing them, especially before the big reveal, I still very much enjoyed how this show played out, including the investigation of the crimes. I do think there was a bit of a lull about 2/3 of the way through the show, where it felt like very little progress was being made each episode to move the case along, but I still very much enjoyed it - though watching it after it's aired might be even more enjoyable because of that lull.

Thup (Pooh) has always been able to see ghosts, and now that he's on his own, it's become overwhelming. It doesn't help that Thup ends up the only suspect of a string of murders connected to a ritual. Singh (Pavel) leads the investigation, and while he once suspected Thup just as everyone else did, it turns out Thup's knowledge of the supernatural might come in handy. Singh decides to trust Thup, and as the two grow closer, a relationship starts to form between them.

I think anyone who enjoys crime and supernatural shows will really enjoy this one. I thought the main actors did a great job portraying these characters, and the story was fairly well paced and the ending didn't feel too rushed. I did think they could have expanded on some of the characters a little bit more, but overall it was still a super fun watch! Sometimes I did think the romance was being treated as more important than the investigation, and I know we were all expecting romance with Pooh and Pavel, but I always find that too much romance ends up feeling out of place when there's murders happening....maybe I just don't find murder investigations as romantic as these characters do. Regardless, this is still definitely worth the watch!

A true piece of GEM ?

The story is not told in a simple straight way. It moves back and forth in time and shows different points of view. This can feel a little confusing at first, but it also makes the story more interesting. It keeps you thinking about what is real, what is fate, and what choices the characters are actually making.

Why this gem is underrated? Every episode of this series is a thrilling ride for me, filled with mystery and thriller also a sweet touch of love and romance. Love the series. I personally think that this series deserves same hype as Khemjira.

Something was off

Waiting this series felt like forever! It was such a good come back project by Change company. You could see how much attention they payed on details. The places they chose to film where so beautiful. Whoever took over the hunting of sceneries did a great job. Same goes for the prop and make up teams. The ghosts were the MVPs the whole time. I consider the ghost the main character of the show (hope they got payed good enough). She played the role amazingly. I even got some jump scares.

As for the plot, even though there was a story and the mystery over whos the "bad" guy, after all I felt mid season that it was getting a bit tiring and repetitive. Then the last eps got released and they got me hooked immediately. The plot twists shocked me to the point I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Not having all the episodes available to binge watch the ending was a bit of a torture!

I actually didnt expect it to be focused THAT much on the horror/mystery genre and the romance getting subsided quite a lot (which im not complaining about). Especially from PoohPavel. Their dynamic wasn't the same this time. It felt like something was missing and I think it was the way Poohs character was written. Way too soft golden retriever vibes. I wanted to see him more confident. And pls whoever was on charge over how they made him stand on kissing scenes the result was sometimes cringe! The geometry a body creates is really important on the viewers eyes.

The second couple, MichaelTopten, had an amazing chemistry with a great story. For me, they were the main couple. Michael's visuals this time was top! The hair color (which i got sooo jealous of), the glasses, the outfits. Everything was on point!

My conclusion is that I perhaps would prefer it to maintain the horror title but keep the rest of the relationships in a bromance level. It just makes a bit more sense for me this way. Not all projects should have couples.

Slow and Ridiculous

Oh dear! A lot of the time, I had to play this at 1.25 speed - very repetitive and slow.
Pooh's haircut, to make him appear young and innocent was really bad, and just succeeded in making him look silly..
However, his adenoidal voice was much better than in PitBabe - up until he was crying over Pavel in the hospital bed.
I liked a lot of the support actors (from Pit Babe, too).
But, this was pretty bad, and not up to PavelPooh's standard..

This was the best Thai BL of 2025?

Okay, honestly? This was the best Thai BL of 2025😍❤️
I'm not really a fan of suspense thrillers, but I absolutely loved it. It was a little scary for me so I tried not to watch it at night so there were days when I couldn't watch it at all, but every night I was curious what was going to happen next.
Believe me I had multiple possible stories in my mind, but there were twists that I didn't even think about, and I loved that thing about it.

I was so into finding the culprit that for a moment I forgot it was about romance as well, there were times when I saw romantic scenes and went like “this is why aren't finding the killer because you guys are busy flirting, meanwhile the killer will reveal himself on his own, right?🙄" No offense, I love PoohPavel, but the story was just that good🤌❤️

The cutest moment was when Pooh softly grabbed Pavel’s shirt with 2 fingers, I swear I screamed into my pillow so much 😍❤️ I love watching Pooh being so small and fragile in front of Pavel😂❤️

Although I thought the end could've been better. Honestly the last episode did not feel rashed but it felt somewhat senseless. But overall I'll give it 9 out of 10, deducting 1 for the senseless ending and for other minor details that were missed apart from this I would definitely recommend it, if you love horror or thriller suspense then this one's for you❤️

the acting and rewatch value should have been a 10 but that damn second couple

I’m genuinely enjoying the story. The main leads are doing amazing and this character seems to suit them perfectly, inspector king i don't like you but it means you are doing a great job! shout out to the chaba ghost she is amazing, the real MVP.
The pacing is good, and the plot is actually engaging. But please, that second couple is testing every ounce of the patience I have. They bring nothing but bland chemistry feels like that rubbish northsonic all over again, giving us unnecessary scenes that interrupt the flow. how am i supposed to believe they are ex and apparently are still sleeping together but no ounce of chemistry or tension detected🤦‍♂️i am begging on my knees, can they get less screen time? Just let me follow the actual story without their constant dull interruptions.

Dear directors and writers, TAKE NOTES

I knew this was gonna be good since it started, but I had no idea it could get even better than it was. It's not like I am a fan of ghosts, but this truly might've made me one. Storyline was interesting, original and the atmosphere was just right for a horror, left you a bit uneasy and tensed up, especially in the last episodes. Acting - both Pooh and Pavel incredibly improved and it shows mostly in crying scenes. Their acting felt really genuine and I loved how Pavel told us what he's currently feeling with his eyes. It was nice to watch actors who know what they are doing and did it with pure confidence and visible improvement. As for Ost, again, flawless to me. Genuinely one of the most beautiful and emotional osts out there.
This sure was an era and in case some of you are wondering whether to watch it or not, this is your sign to take some snack and go enjoy this experience.

Love!

Every episode had me on edge. The actors did an amazing job. They portrayed their characters extremely well and made it all so believable. The cast, casting director/s, the director/s, producer/s, make up artists, coaches, extras, all the support staff obviously worked in harmony and are very skilled. This show deserves a lot of love.
