this is what a kdrama should look like

okay so i went in a little nervous. a superhero comedy set in 1999 with apocalypse vibes is a lot to balance and kdramas don't always pull off this kind of tonal mashup. but wonderfools mostly nails it and when it wobbles the cast just picks it up and carries it.

the premise feels fresh without trying too hard. director yoo insik is so good at making absurd stuff feel grounded and the writing actually gives every misfit a real emotional arc instead of just leaning on the powers as the gimmick. the 1999 setting isn't just for the aesthetic either. the whole millennium dread thing bleeds into the characters in a way i didn't expect. production-wise it looks great too. the action is clean, the comedy lands and when it goes for the emotional beats they actually hit.

the cast is what makes this special. park eunbin is doing what she does best. chaeni is loud and chaotic but also clearly hurting and eunbin makes that switch look effortless. choi daehoon and im seongjae are SO funny and the four of them have that ensemble chemistry where you can tell they actually like each other. supporting cast is stacked too.

cha eunwoo though??? i've watched basically everything he's done since true beauty and this is the most disciplined i've ever seen him. unjeong is a hard role. mysterious, fairy-tale boy, carrying trauma he can barely talk about and instead of playing it big eunwoo plays it SO restrained. it's all in his eyes, his breathing, these tiny shifts. and then when unjeong finally cracks (you'll know the scene) it lands so much harder because he didn't tip his hand earlier. this is lead actor work, full stop. people who only know him for his face are about to eat their words.

i have no negatives but the villain arc wraps up a bit neater than the buildup deserved. nothing dealbreaking but it's just a note.

tl;dr: genuinely one of the best dramas i've watched recently. great ensemble, real heart, actually funny and eunwoo is so good. if this is the last thing we get from him before he's back from enlistment in 2027, what a way to leave us. already planning a rewatch.

Messy at First, But Trust Me, It Gets Better

I went into this drama with mixed feelings, because let’s be honest, superhero comedy is not exactly a genre K-dramas have a good track record with. But I decided to push through because it’s from Extreme Job writer and Dr. Romantic director. And surprisingly, the drama slowly won me over.

The first few episodes did not fully convince me, the pacing is draggy and the character writing occasionally leaned too much into caricature territory. The humor felt a little too chaotic at first and the trio’s antics might honestly be too loud and messy for some viewers. I genuinely dropped my rating for the story by two whole points because of how exhausting the characters initially felt. But the saving grace was honestly Cha Eun Woo’s deadpan and exasperated reactions toward them. His expressions were so relatable to what I felt that it made me realize the trio was intentionally written to feel overwhelming and chaotic at first. Looking back now, it’s obvious those earlier episodes were important for setting up the worldbuilding and emotional foundations of the story.

And once the drama starts picking up by the end of episode 3, it genuinely becomes difficult to stop watching.

The emotional stakes get stronger, the character dynamics start clicking naturally, and the trio slowly becomes oddly lovable in their own messy ways. No one here feels completely one-dimensional, not even the villains, and that is largely thanks to the actors carrying the material with passion and sincerity. I really have to give credit to director Yoo In Sik because the direction is genuinely excellent. The blend between emotional moments and absurd comedy is handled so smoothly that the drama never feels overwhelmingly heavy despite touching on darker themes. It understands exactly what kind of show it wants to be: chaotic, emotional, stupid, ridiculous, but ultimately warm-hearted.

Acting-wise, I think the writing initially did Park Eun Bin’s character a disservice because her portrayal feels almost too exaggerated in the beginning. But once you settle into the drama’s tone and genre conventions, her performance becomes incredibly endearing. As expected from a Daesang-winning actress.

But the biggest surprise to me was Cha Eun Woo.

For the first time, I genuinely felt both the restraint and ease in his performance that I’ve never fully seen from him before. In his previous works, there was always this visible tension in the way he delivered emotions. But here, he finally breathes out, his reactions feel seamless and natural. What surprised me even more was how emotionally important his character became. Somehow, the story slowly turns into something very Cha Eun Woo-centric emotionally, and honestly, HE PULLED IT OFF. His arc became the emotional anchor of the series, especially toward the ending of episode 5 and throughout episode 6. HIS PERFORMANCE GENUINELY CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD. I can now honestly say that he has become a really good actor. It also helps that he’s really nice to look at too and it genuinely cracks me up every time he gets beaten up by Park Eun Bin.

Special mention also goes to Kim Hae Sook and Son Hyun Joo because veterans will always remain veterans, though I do think the drama underutilized them slightly. And the actresses playing the villains were absolutely fantastic too. It’s obvious the production team took the casting seriously because there’s genuinely not a single acting hole in this cast.

As for my favorite scenes for the whole series, I have to hand it to Choi Dae Hoon “The Shining” parody and the giant inflatable onion mascot sequence. His comedic timing is genuinely incredible.

Overall, despite its messy start, this drama eventually grows into a surprisingly heartfelt, funny, and emotionally engaging watch. It asks viewers to be patient during its earlier episodes, but once it finds its footing, it becomes RIDICULOUSLY charming.

Highly recommended. Would definitely rewatch.

Great Cast, Great Acting, Good Story and Good Music.

I normally don't go for this kind of drama (comedy), but I wanted to watch it because of Cha Eun-woo. I am so happy I did because it was really good! It is a perfect combination of comedy, action, and adventure.

I especially liked the superhero angle. I have seen a lot of superhero movies and series based on Marvel and DC, so it was fun to see a different spin on the genre with unlikely heroes who struggle to control and understand their powers. The writers took a familiar theme and truly made it their own. I was engaged from episode one and ended up binge-watching the whole series.

The cast was fantastic:

Cha Eun-woo plays the perfect reluctant hero who doesn't really want to get involved but can't avoid getting sucked in by this new group of heroes. I really liked his backstory, and you can truly feel his pain over the trauma from his past. His acting was brilliant.

Park Eun-bin plays an out-of-control young woman who suddenly gains superpowers. I loved her chaotic vibe and her "go-getter" mindset. She performed the role fantastically.

Choi Dae-hoon and Im Sung-jae complete the team. They both did a great job of playing unlikely heroes struggling to control their powers and find their own courage.

As always, Kim Hae-sook is a wonderful actress who played the role of the grandmother perfectly. I always love seeing her in dramas.

The music was also great. Having "Creep" by Radiohead start off episode one and using it later on during a big fight scene was a brilliant move—it just fit perfectly. My advice would be: definitely watch it!

THE MOSY UNSERIOUS DRAMA OF THE YEAR

Love, love this one.

One of the things I like about it is how the director was able to blend all the genres together so smoothly. I wasn’t expecting a perfect story, but for me, I’ll watch anything Park Eun-bin is in, and as always, she didn’t disappoint.

The entire cast, from my baby girl to Cha Eun-woo, and the other two musketeers, (Im Sung Jae) Ro Bin and (Choi Dae Hoon) Gyeong Un, were super hilarious and amazing too they were Really Wonderfoooooooools.,

This is one unserious K-drama you need to see. It will make you feel all types of emotions at once you’ll laugh, maybe 😢, get pissed, and be surprised all in one sitting.

Having seen so many superhero dramas with perfect heroes, this one does things differently. I love how imperfect and flawed the Fantastic 4 were, with 3 still trying to figure everything out and the relationship between Chae Ni (“granddaughter of humanity”) and her grandmother, I was so happy for this reunion. I missed them both since Judge vs. Judge.

I finished it within two days because I didn’t want to miss a single scene.

And now I’m starting again yes, rewatching it. That’s how much I love this one.

Okay, so I finished watching Wonderfools (in one sitting) and honestly!! It was FIRE so EPIC!! and so FUNNY. Every character delivered an amazing performance, their acting skills, and the chemistry among the friends was insane!. Our Chae-ni was literally that girl!!! who got their back, and his friend Mr Son, I liked how he loved his family; he would literally choose his family over anything and that for me is a green flag. Oh I can never leave a comment without mentioning Our Cha Eun Woo, at first I felt betrayed on Chae-ni's behalf when he sent her to that Dr. However, after knowing his reason I think I would also do the same I Mean who doesn't want to know their real parents, and for him to go back there knowing he might be killed was also what I would have done too cause at the end of the day that Trio grew on him and gave him back his spark, it was honestly worth it going back to that place. Overall, Ro-bin and Madam Kim (grandmother) delivered amazing scenes as well, and judging by the ending, I think there is another Season coming, and I honestly can't wait. Big Ups!! to the Production team for an awesome drama.

A WONDERful show

I like to keep my reviews pretty short, you know straight to the point of what I liked and disliked. That being said I really enjoyed this show, in-fact I can't recall the last time I had fun watching a tv show...

It felt refreshing, like it healed something I've been craving for months. The WONDERfools really stands out because, despite all the superpowers and chaos, the characters still feel incredibly human. I especially loved Lee Un Jeong (Cha Eun Woo), because he has that classic Superman/Clark Kent personality — a clumsy and awkward co-worker that nobody would ever expect to secretly have powers. Instead of making him feel untouchable, the show keeps him grounded and relatable, which makes his heroic moments even better.

The same applies to Eun Chae Ni (Park Eun Bin), Son Gyeong Un (Choi Dae Hoon) and Kang Ro Bin (Kang Ro Bin). They all genuinely feel like ordinary people who just happened to gain extraordinary abilities. Their reactions to having powers feel realistic too — some characters see them as a blessing or even a cure, while others treat them more like a curse. What makes the show so satisfying is watching each of them slowly learn to understand and appreciate their abilities as they grow as people. Their character development feels natural, rewarding, and ultimately leads to a conclusion that feels complete while still leaving the door open for more. More than anything, though, the cast is what made the show so memorable for me because every character felt distinct, lovable, and easy to become invested in.

The WONDERfools also does an incredible job balancing its plot, humor, and emotional moments without any of them overpowering the others. The comedy feels effortless and genuinely funny, often catching you off guard in the best way possible, while the romance stays subtle and heartfelt instead of becoming overly dramatic or forced. What really makes the story stand out, though, is the decision to center everything around the fear and uncertainty of the world ending when the year 2000 arrives. It is such a perfect setup for the plot because it not only fits the era perfectly, but also gives the entire series this nostalgic atmosphere through its fashion, technology, and overall vibe. That Y2K setting adds so much personality to the show and perfectly matches its mix of chaos, emotion, humor, and hope.

The only downfall the show had for me was it being only 8 episodes. Heres hoping we will get a season 2!

A must watch!

"The WONDERfools" was very good in a lot of aspects. It balanced action, comedy, and emotional moments perfectly, making it such an entertaining and fun drama from start to finish.

The cast was amazing, especially Cha Eunwoo and Park Eun-bin, who both delivered incredible chemistry & great performances as the leads. They portrayed Lee Unjeong and Eun Chaeni so well, bringing out their characters’ humor, vulnerabilities, and emotional depth. Their chemistry was strong and the scenes between them was memorable and full of energy. The rest of the cast meshed together well bringing cohesion to the group. The only character I thought was a bit out of place was Mr. Son who didn't contribute as much to the group or his family and he seemed a bit out of place with the group until near the end because he was money hungry & a but selfish at times. Overall, this is a must watch drama with 8 episodes on Netflix! I am hoping for season 2!!

OMG! I love it! TheWONDERFools is so worth the wait! Amazing cast! Superheroes, villains, and supporting cast delivered exceptionally well. The chemistry of Park Eunbin, CHA EUN-WOO, Choi Daehoon, and ImSeongjae is so on point. Hats off to director Yoo In-sik! Even the music/songs like "Creep" intro, sounds, and art design fit well. Love that all eight episodes hit Netflix in one go, so I can binge-watch it. I laughed, cried, and got surprised! Enjoyed every episode! Just like Park Eunbin, brilliant actor CHA EUN-WOO is quite impressive. His subtle, nuanced, expressive eye, voice, body, and face acting resonate well with me. Comedy, action, and drama, he delivered exceptionally well. So in awe of his excellent acting skills. As with his previous projects, he's able to fully embody his character. No wonder ‘The WONDERfools’ is the No.1 most anticipated K-drama of 2026. Highly recommend it!.. and yes, I'm hoping for a sequel if they can create another good storyline.

Best Comedy, Thriller, SCI-FI, Romance & Supernatural Kdrama of 2026

This is how a kdrama should be. Insane plot with great acting. The chemistry between all leads is insane. None of these episodes includes any boring scenes; each episode is damn interesting.

Park Eun Bin is such an excellent actress, as is Cha Eun Woo, and the other main leads, and all the other characters also did a great job in this drama. The chemistry between Fl and his 2 frds is so interesting and hilarious. The romance between the FL & ML is so cute and sweet. I love how these 3 frds (FL and her 2 frds) are clinging to the ML. ML is quiet and calm, unlike our 3 crazy frds.

Spoiler: Especially their interesting superpowers, Ml's power is so cool, and the Fl gained the immorality, her wounds can heal in a few seconds if she got hurt, and can come back to life no matter how many times she died, like an immortal, also she can teleport to anywhere, not only in her country but also can teleport to any other country with her power, so cool. also her frds's powers are interesting, one is strong and the other can sticked to anything and can walk on walls, roofs ( upside down or ....) etc..,

Spoiler: My most hurtful scene is the ML betraying the FL and handing her over to the villains. But yhh, he had a personal reason for the betrayal; still, it hurts. Fl trusted him a lot; even her frds believed him, and all called him "Master." But yhh ML later went again with FL's 2 frds to save the FL. The process of saving the FL is so hilarious.

There are so many scenes that I can't even control my laughter. I enjoyed this drama so much, so funny. Betrayal, love, and friendship gained my attention so much, I really love the friendship between the FL and her 2 frds. Also, I love the FL and her grandma's relationship; her grandma loves FL so much, more than her life.

Spoiler: One of the most hilarious scenes: There's a scene of FL's 2 frds disposing of FL's body after she died accidentally (her first time dying before gaining the superpower). FL and her 2 frds planned an act of kidnapping and blackmail to get money from FL's grandma. The act: FL's 2 frds pretended to kidnap FL ( FL is the mastermind behind this plan) and made a video by recording her begging her grandma to send money to the kidnappers, and she can come back home safely. It's a plan made by these 3. FL has heart disease. (She can die at any moment, but she didn't tell anyone, including her 2 frds and her grandma. FL planned this kidnapping scene to get money to go on a trip before she died, her grandma is so rich ) In the process, when her 2 frds were watching the recording, FL's heart beat so fast & died on the spot. When 2 frds called her, FL didn't respond. After knowing she had died, they cried, and a lot happened there, but 1 frd got afraid that the police would arrest them for murdering her even though they didn't do anything. Her 2 frds planned to dispose of her body, and when they were going to dispose of her body, they were caught by the ML. And FL's body rolled down into a chemicals-filled pit, and in a few minutes, her body had disappeared. ML called the police, and they all were exposed to the chemicals in the pit and gained superpowers, but not everyone could get them; mostly, they died if they were exposed to the chemicals. Only a few could survive, and even fewer could get powers. When the ML explained how FL's 2 frds disposed of her body, police asked "did you see the face of the body? " and he told them the FL's name. Every villager knows her, and even the police know her. When the ML told them her name, the police asked him, "Is that her standing behind you?" he looked back & told, "Yeah, that's her," and again looked back and noticed that she came to life. Even her frds got confused and couldn't believe what happened. Upon seeing FL come back to life, one of her friends fainted. This scene is so hilarious, even though my explanation looks scary, you need to watch this. This drama is so enjoyable.

The ending is so good, and FL could save all of her villagers before they got exposed to the chemicals. And ML and FL got together, and our FL & her other 2 crazy frd got closer, in the end, all villains who got superpowers died, but the crazy scientist who made these chemicals didn't die, even though all thought he died.

I think there will be 2nd season because the crazy scientist ( the mastermind behind these) didn't die. One of his daughters ( not biologically, one of the experimented children) gave a chemical to see whether he would survive after he severally burned and was near death. It shows he died, but in the last minutes showed that the crazy scientist didn't really die & instead all his burned wounds got healed, like he's also gained immortality. I'm not sure about that, but sure, he didn't die, and he also got superpowers.

Worth watching and waiting for the 2nd season.
