Ep14 on gets interesting but can you make it there?
Ep 14 was SAVAGE! Before then I actually didn't care for the drama, but I kept watching thinking "What if this is the last of Zhao Lu Si I get to see" (which I really hope not)Before ep 14 I hated:
1. The nasty characters: felt like old tropey drama where everyone around FL is one dimensional nasty getting TOO much screen time
2. Zhao Lu Si OTP make up. She's beautiful in a unique way before she started doing makeup like AI.
3. Unrealistic amount of time to do ALL of that and be perfect.
Only if you are into makeup, fashion, glamour, there's unlimited amount of that.
Ep 14 post showdown
1. The Zhao Lu Si I once loved returned! Her crying scene felt genuine again. Especially the scene in ep 15 where she took off all her make up in controlled tears talking to her grandma.
2. The transition from glamor to her real self was so good.
3. Positive development on supporting characters though a few remained one dimensional (which I still skip)
Ep 19, they started to add more humor almost too silly but entertaining. They are so good together! (IMO)
For those who complain ML /FL age gap is too big. From head to toe he legit fits that Bossy CEO image (not like some young kid playing cosplay) His acting is always solid!

A 3 acts play that pits business shenanigans against true love
If I'm being honest, this show gives me Queen of Tears vibe. Not that they share any significant DNA, but they both have traffic stars and are very high profile. At least for me, both failed to shine their brightest. Our ML is THE Bachelor but remains out of reach to most bachelorettes. That is because his mother is the classic queen bee who vets all his girlfriends and chases them away when they are deemed unsuitable. Her cadre of "friends" turns this into a blood sport.
On the other hand, FL's life was a daily grind. She works diligently but has little to show for it. I'm sure many Chinese Gen Z'ers can relate to that. Her sad upbringing made her insecure. She craves security and she will do anything to get it. She basically lied through her teeth to create a persona to capture the ML and allow her to fit into his world. She plans and plots meticulously.
However, this is a very rickety house of cards. She kept running into people (including her real parents and sister) who knows her past. Such lax writing is almost a trademark of this drama. You can't paint her as clever and resourceful, yet dooms her plans with one obvious flaw. It doesn't make sense.
Her life seems to be perfect once she marries the ML. ZLS is beautiful. She is styled exquisitely. Fast cars and luxury are in abundance. It is quintessential the Lifestyle of the Nouveau Riche. Behind all the glitz and glam, a sense of dread is building. Will their love blossom?
Unfortunately, the house of cards comes crashing down in due course. It was nuclear. All the masks are ripped off, pretences burnt away. It was toxic and confronting.
ZLS really brought her A-game for this important pivot. Emotions ran high. The symbolic cleansing of her make-ups signifies the dropping of all her pretenses.
Act 2 begins with a fresh start. Our FL threw away everything she worked so hard to attain. It was a Bowerbird's hoard after all. She starts small and works with the same drive and dedication as before. Except, she will no longer compromise on her principles. It was a trying and testing time.
In the meantime, the ML realised he made a grave mistake. He thought the FL is happy to sell her soul for fame and fortune. It was a bitter pill for such an egotist to swallow.
I'm not going to spoil it, but it took the ML 16 eps to win back the FL. It was fun to watch the ML eat humble pie, but it was draggy in parts. They could have shorten it by removing some of the business side plots.
Then Act 3 hit us, literally. I’m not going to mince words. It is pure dog blood. Ye gods, it was a tsunami of angst. No one is spared. It is mind numbing. Not to mention with less than 4 eps to go, the clock is ticking.
Sure enough, most of the angst bombs fizzled out. This brings me back to my earlier point about lazy writing. The antagonist are hardly subtle nor original. His lackeys are borderline incompetent. They left themselves wide open to counter attack. Resolutions come at pace, but are contrived.
To pad out the straightforward story we have many business ventures. If we cut them out, we could save 10 eps. At one stage, they spend some time at a place called Gubei Town. It was meant to be an historical town famous for their arts and crafts going back hundreds of years. A quick google will tell you Gubei was built from 2010-2014 just outside of Beijing. It is basically a tourist attraction.
BTW, there is a 2CP and a half-hearted 3CP. Maybe it is the way they are written, but they don't have much traction compared to our main leads.
In the end, the show is decent. The production value is high. Instead of food porn, we get fashion parades. ZLS absolutely owns her role. More power to her!
From my perspective, Act 2 is the heart of this show. The ending is sweet but predictable. We don't need all the excess baggage in Act 3.
I don't get the hype though. Yes, our leads have good chemistry, their romance is sweet. We have passionate skinship and the A-plot is serviceable. It is a good c-drama. Just not quite the best of 2025. Peace.

strong start that went downhill
The plot started strong and really reeled me in. I absolutely love how they portrayed FL's climb to power and entering the ML's family. There was a perfect amount of tension and romance which was a great build-up and I had high expectations on how they were going to "fight" it out post break-up. It unfortunately fell flat and returned to your typical sappy rom-com filled with avoidable misunderstandings and unrealistic ambitions. Alas, the second couple was a nice supplement to the overall plot. While it was nice to portray strong female independence - there were simply too many unrealistic moments and plenty of random outbursts that didn't feel very logical to me. As we get to the ML chasing FL back, the plot was too long-winded and draggy - it could have ended in 26eps. There is something very unnatural to me about ML's acting and the quality of dubbing where the dubs do not match their lips. If I had a choice, I would give the first half of the show 9.0 and the second half a 5.0. I only finished it out of my need to always complete a show but it was an absolute bore.

Drama of the year ending drama drought for me
Love’s Ambition has already broken tencent record for the highest heat index for the premier day. It carries a sense of depth and sincerity, with storytelling that balances ambition, romance, and human struggle in a way that draws viewers in emotionally.Strong Narrative Drive - the drama presents ambition not just as a goal, but as an emotional journey full of passion, setbacks, and triumphs.

Relatability - it resonates with viewers who are also chasing dreams while navigating love, family, and self-identity.
Chemistry - the lead pair’s chemistry explosive, magnetic and unforgettable.

I knew you'd be worth it.
I've been waiting for this drama a while and it didn't dissapoint at all.I enjoyed all the arcs in this series. From watching Xu Yan create a whole fake persona, finding out about Hao Ming's own secret orchestrations, XY's professional development, the family dynamics, the cooling off period, the groveling, the romancing, the personal and professional challenges and how the characters overcame all this; there really wasn't a boring point.
There are some parts that seem too incredulous, my main one being: Xu Yan being way too well rounded of a person, she was just tooooo good at EVERYTHING and perfect in every way, idk, it was just too convenient. There were other smaller things here and there, but this one made me roll my eyes a bit especially in the beginning. I just couldn't believe how many professional hurdles surrounding Jinda, Hao Ming's families/friends were able to be solved through XY's actions. Anyway, not a major gripe, but there was that.
The romance was so mature and intimate. ZLS and WC both look the part as ADULT experienced people, they give off such big dick power couple vibes, none of that innocent/virgin/shy romance dynamics you know? So it was really refreshing watching their relationship.
Plot wise, I actually REALLY enjoyed the business aspects and all the talks surrounding it lol. Which is surprising cos I'd typically tune out of those stuff, but here I really was into the business and politics and it felt like I as a viewer had a vested stake in both Jinda and Yan Studio's success, so I couldn't help but pay attention to the business parts, and found it enjoyable.
Family dynamics and friendships were handled so well, side characters and their plots too were good. Overall it was an amazing drama.

A Not Bad Urban Dram
Overall a not bad urban drama 8-8.5/10It was started as a strong melodrama genre with fast pacing and then it turned to RomCom in the 2nd half, going back to Urban genre with a slower paced as they originally planned, then mixing melodrama+romcom again for ending, i love their anxiety and comedic timing also both leads’ chemistry during 2nd half, This drama introduces traditional clothing and Chinese culture which nicely done

Amazing drama
I love Lusi’s character. She always brings in a character to life, the physical aspect as well her acting prowess, so impressive indeed. I like that XuYan never forces herselt to anyone who does not want her. Its painful to watch that what happened to her parents, the same can be said of her husband. The best part? She just removes herself from that situation, moved on and make a good life for herself. Was this review helpful to you?

When gold-digging goes bad, well sort of….
To start it is believed, this is the typical story of the poor wholesome girl trying to fit into the world of affluence that surrounds her future husband. However, this conclusion is quickly shattered when it’s revealed that the FL’s entire imagine – name, family etc. is all a fabrication. With this reveal the story immediately becomes incredibly interesting. The series proceeds with the audience watching the FL carefully and cunningly weaving her web of lies while tap dancing her way out of her duplicity nearly being exposed. Of course, her plan to build the perfect life doesn’t go as planned. For her wealthy fiancée who is nothing short of amazing has weaved his own web of lies.
Things eventually crumble with both she and the ML having no room to deride the other considering each had contributed their own deceptions that led to the disaster that blew up their marriage. In the mist of the leads trying to work through the lies and rebuild their marriage on love, this the series, incorporated some ambition career moves for them both , nice personal growth and shocking corporate treachery.
There was always something interesting going on. However, the show did overdo it with the struggles the FL encountered, and the interlopers to the leads and the second leads relationships was insufferable. Their presence in the story was simply to cause unnecessary drama. Moreover, after all the drama around the ML’s secret kid, the writers decided to undo that fact in the end. Again, drama for drama’s sake and completely unnecessary. Additionally, the ending to the corporate storyline was a little wonky and the series created all the drama with the son, but once he served his purpose we didn't see him again which was odd.
That aside, this was a really good series. The love story was lovely. Zhao Lu was fantastic as the FL. Great acting. She and William Chan had a natural chemistry that made their coupledom absolutely believable. Xu Yan and Shen Hao Ming were such a bada** power couple who could make any business deal happen. Loved them. This was an enjoyable series. One that I will rewatch often.

Power Casts
William Chan + Zhao Lusi = a powerful pair of leads! This is at least off the usual dramas of love triangle which is very refreshing. The plot, well there is some scenes that I wished was treated differently but otherwise too minor to even count it against the whole series. Congratulations! I have always enjoyed Rosy's works. Was this review helpful to you?

The start of this drama really pulls you in with its ruthless precision to the narratives each character has crafted and then the ultimate fall out when the lies come to light. But then the story takes a nose dive and instead of the banter and chase we expected as the leads find their way back to each other we are instead forced to watch the endless business meetings and constant doubt that is easily pushed onto the characters from outside forces that show just how shallow their understanding of each other really is. Personally I don't watch a lot of work or business related dramas as I find them boring so after the half way point of this drama I began skimming episodes.
An overall beautiful drama that is acted well but lost its grit from the beginning.
