Amazingly done modern drama....

I so enjoyed every bit of this drama. It was so well done and kept me invested from start to finish for a modern drama. If you have seen my profile or reviews on the few modern dramas I have reviewed that I've loved it is very hard for me to get into them. I get so bored easily with them, but I didn't with this one not even when they go into their jobs cause their jobs are very important to the story.

Zhao Lusi: Showed just what an incredible actress she is. This was such a mature and different role for her to play and she blew it out of the water. Really loved watching her all the way through this. I've been such a huge fan of hers for a while now and she still doesn't disappoint. If you don't like her previous roles that she has done definitely give this a go cause this is such a different role for her to play. Her crying and emotional scenes still hit so hard and though she doesn't have many in this her funny scenes still make you laugh.

William Chan: I also really enjoyed his acting in this drama. I had only seen one of his dramas before this and I enjoyed him in that role to. He was great to watch with Zhao Lusi and with out her that I didn't find any of his scenes boring, but I didn't really find any of this drama boring I thought it was so well done all the way through it.

Spoilers may start here:

Xu Yan: The FL character who this is mostly about is a girl who has never felt loved by her parents, and the only person in her life that she has is her grandmother. So she decides that she really wants to give her grandmother a better life and make sure she is taken care of. She is a very hardworking ambitious girl, but you can also see that she can be calculative and also very manipulative. She approaches the ML Hao Ming knowing the kind of life he can give her and her grandmother. You could call her a bit of a gold digger. She fakes her family background and even hires fake parents to marry him. So none of her actual family are at her wedding (which I agreed with her not wanting her real parents there but not inviting her grandmother I did find a mistake on her part). She even finds ways to get in good with his mother who was so against her in the beginning, and I actually thought his mother could actually tell she was lying she just couldn't prove it. Through all this though you could really see that she was falling in love with Hao Ming and his family, but lies always have a way of catching up with you.

Hao Ming: The ML character who you don't really get to see to much into cause this drama is done in the FL's point of view. He comes off at first as such a great guy at first and so in love with Xu Yan, and would give her anything she wants. You later find out just how ambitious and manipulative he is to. He knew all about Xu Yan marrying him for his money which is why you see him constantly buying her expensive gifts and giving her money anytime she needs it. He was perfectly fine with her lie and her doing this until she throws up that he is lying. Xu Yan finds out that he has a son that he never told her about and her calling him out on his lies you can see Hao Ming go into defensive mode at this moment.

The story behind this drama shows exactly what happens when you build your relationship on lies. It doesn't work and you end up with two people that don't really know how to trust each other or know what to believe from the other. Hao Ming thought Xu Yan was just after money so when she tried to tell him she loved him he didn't believe her at all he figured he had her all figured out. It wasn't until when he actually starts thinking back about everything she did for him that he realized he screwed up. The same thing happens with Xu Yan when Hao Ming tries to win her back she doesn't know what to believe anymore. Both of these characters make mistakes but in the end they both learn from them and realize they both do really love the other. It is such a beautiful story to watch and for me I can understand both these characters and the choices they made. So I don't really think one is better than the other.

Fang Lei: I have to mention this character just because of how aggravating she was. You will not like her character at all she shows what a serious obsessive person is really like and how delusional they are. The ML was never romantically involved with her, but with the way she acts you would think he was.

I can understand why some wouldn't want to watch this drama just because how the main characters start out, but you can see from the start of this just how much they really love each other. Did they make mistakes yes, but the fact is they learned from them and came back to each other. I loved this drama and have to say it is a much watch if you can get through it.

The freedom and strength in being yourself

I liked it, that we got to see ZLS in a more mature role for change.
The drama itself is well made.
It starts with a more cool and calculating vibe, matching the mental state of our main characters, who put up quite the front in the beginning for understandable reasons.
That changes with the divorce era. At the level, at which the masks are falling apart and lies are revealed the vibe of the drama changes accordingly. There is even a really silly part put in the middle of the show, which threw some viewers off.
But in my opinion - when we are in love, vulnerable, and off balance, because the relationship is changing and we need to adjust without putting up a front - we tend to be uncomfortable awkward and sometimes a bit silly while finding our footings in changed conditions. We are imperfect humans after all.
But the drama kept its pacing well maintained, and how the couple resolved their issues between them and the difficulties thrown their way by outsiders was worthwhile to watch.
I don’t want to say more because I don’t want to spoil the outcome.
I liked the drama and found it wholesome.
The casting for the roles was on point. The actors delivered. And the characters had layers and were all human with flaws

Love’s Ambition really surprised me in the best way. What I loved most was how different it felt from the usual C-drama storyline — the plot was refreshing, more mature, and emotionally engaging without relying on clichés.

Zhao Lusi absolutely carried this role. Her acting felt natural, expressive, and emotionally grounded. I loved her character’s strength and complexity — she wasn’t overly naive or unrealistically perfect, which made her journey feel relatable and compelling. Watching her navigate love, ambition, and emotional conflict was genuinely enjoyable.

The romance had depth and tension, and the story kept me interested because it wasn’t predictable. It felt modern, layered, and thoughtfully written, with a nice balance between emotion and storytelling.

Love’s Ambition:a classic 太子爷追妻火葬场记

Let’s not kid ourselves.
If you’re here expecting a sophisticated, ground-breaking narrative that will redefine modern television - you may want to turn left immediately.

But if what you crave is a highly addictive, beautifully dressed, emotionally chaotic dramedy about very rich people making very bad romantic decisions -congratulations.
You have arrived at the correct station.

At its heart, Love’s Ambition is a glorious, unapologetic case of:

今天你对我爱答不理,明天我让你高攀不起。

This is a textbook 太子爷追妻火葬场记 - and it knows exactly what it’s doing.

———

From “You’ll Never Leave Me” to “Please Don’t Leave Me”

The setup is classic:
FL begins as the seemingly gentle, accommodating wife of a cold, controlling CEO husband. Think Mr. & Mrs. Smith, minus the guns — just lies, pride, emotional neglect, and excellent suits.

Both lie.
But when the truth comes out?
• FL: swallows her pride, tries to reconcile, eats humble pie — because she genuinely loves him.
• ML: remains cold, distant, and emotionally unavailable — because he’s rich, powerful, and fully convinced she will never leave his luxurious ecosystem.

Well.

He thought wrong.
Very wrong.

Cue the transformation arc:
FL evolves into a boss-lady entrepreneur, the power dynamics flip, and suddenly we enter peak:

傲妻一时爽,追妻火葬场。

The emotional whiplash is delicious. The grovel is earned. The mating dance is the engine of the show - and honestly? It’s deeply satisfying to watch.

ML’s Redemption Arc: Growth Without Becoming a Golden Retriever

This is where the writers surprised me with actual restraint.

The ML starts out as:
• Cold
• Manipulative
• Controlling
• Emotionally constipated

Then comes the Eureka Moment™, and he upgrades into:
• Supportive
• Respectful
• Emotionally available

But crucially —

✨ He does NOT devolve into a whimpering golden retriever who exists only to orbit the FL.

And I love that.

Too many dramas turn men in love into unemployed emotional followers with no personality. Here, the ML keeps his competence, his backbone, and his identity - he just becomes… not toxic.

That’s not just romance.
That’s psychological realism.

FL’s Growth Arc: The True Spine of the Drama

What really won me over was the FL’s personal philosophy: “只有你足够强大,你才不会活在失去依靠的恐惧里。”

Yes. Exactly.
Independence is not rebellion - it’s emotional insurance.

This drama understands something many romances butcher:
Only when two people stand on equal ground can love be healthy.
Not saviour vs. dependent.
Not tyrant vs. pet.

—————-

Sizzle, Style & Visual Wealth

Let’s be shallow for a moment.

The chemistry? Electric.
The styling? Aggressively beautiful.
The makeup? Chef’s kiss.

This is one of those shows where:
• emotional breakdowns happen in premium lighting
• everyone looks picture-perfect 24/7
• and our leads always look financially secure (all that bling bling) even when they are crumbling emotionally

I was sometimes distracted not by the plot - but by how violently stunning everyone looked even when they are supposed to be suffering.

I want every outfit.
Every lipstick.
Every coat.
Every walking-into-a-boardroom-like-a-boss moment.

—————

Heritage & 古北镇: A Surprisingly Beautiful Touch

The intangible cultural heritage thread genuinely touched me. The 古北镇 segment was beautifully integrated and grounded the story in something real and meaningful - far bigger than ego, revenge, or romance.

As someone who volunteers in association work and leads heritage initiatives, this part hit especially close to the heart. It elevated the drama beyond “CEO romance” into something with actual cultural warmth.

—————-

Sincerity > Networking: The Anti-“Disposable Connections” Philosophy

One of the quiet strengths of this show is its insistence that:

Sincerity still matters - whether you’re rich or not.

Yes, the FL approached certain tai-tais strategically.
Yes, she helped build her husband’s social capital.

But she never treated people like disposable tissue.

The Director Huang & dementia mother arc was especially well handled:
• Goal achieved ✅
• Relationship maintained ✅
• No emotional littering ✅

That kind of sincerity is rare — in dramas and in real life.

——————

Now… about those extra subplots.

To stretch this into 32 episodes, the plot takes some creative detours:
• Bonus psycho stalkers (not 1, not 2, but 3!)
• Surprise “you’re not the real son!” twist
• A parade of emotional chaos clearly designed to hit quota

These arcs felt less like organic storytelling and more like filler. Cos a rich, young lady pining away for her dead sister’s ex-boyfriend for years and basically stalking him? That’s just crazy.

It didn’t deepen the drama.
It just complicated it like over-seasoned mala hotpot:
Impressive effort. Questionable payoff.

Thankfully, they resisted the ultimate 狗血 nuclear option:

✨ 带球跑 ✨

Because if that happened, we’d have tipped straight into makjang madness and never returned.

——————-

Minor Quibbles (Because No Drama Escapes Unscathed)
• The second couple:
Elder sister acted her heart out.
Doctor Yu, however, felt permanently stuck on “Stoic Mode: On.”
Not terrible - just emotionally underclocked.
• FL & the camera:
Occasionally she seemed just a tad too aware of the lens - choosing perfect angles over complete naturalism. It’s subtle, but occasionally distracting.
(Unpopular opinion, I know. Fans, please don’t send assassins.)
• And finally…
The Time Management Is Absolutely Feral

The FL:
• Runs a thriving business
• Builds networks
• Supports ML
• Supports the elderly
• Navigates emotional warfare
• Maintains friendships
• Looks flawless doing all of the above

Meanwhile, I struggle to reply WhatsApp messages after 10pm.

Time in this drama is a rubber band.
Normal humans get 24 hours.
These characters operate on 96 hours per day, and frankly, I’m jealous.

———————

Final Verdict

The 13-year age gap between the leads?
Surprisingly not obvious. Well done.

And can we please applaud:
• ML’s mum
• FL’s granny

Especially ML’s mum. She’s a queen.

HER EYES.
Her presence.
She walks into a scene and quietly dominates it without raising her voice.
True veteran energy.

⭐ Final Rating: 8 / 10

Love’s Ambition is a satisfying redemption romance with:
• A rare balanced power dynamic
• A meaningful female growth arc
• A believable male redemption
• A warm emphasis on sincerity & heritage

It’s messy.
It’s extra.
It’s occasionally ridiculous.

But it knows exactly what it is -
a 火葬场-themed power fantasy with a heart (and a spectacular wardrobe).

And I absolutely ate it up with a spoon.

8/10 - would gladly watch the CEO grovel again. 😏

I read the positive reviews and heard about how popular this drama was getting that I decided to see for myself what the fuss was all about. The storyline was intriguing enough, and so I began. I was hooked for much of the first half, but by the second half (as the drama and angst kicked in), it started feeling a bit repetitive. By the last third of the drama, I was skipping through many of the scenes or watching it on 3x speed. There was too much unnecessary drama added in and the ending felt so rushed. I felt like there were better ways it could have ended - it almost ended in a way that felt like it could lead in to a second season though I hardly believe that were the intention. All in all, the acting was excellent, and the characters were generally likeable. I just felt like there was something more that I was wanting that I just didn't get from the second half of the drama. All in all, still a good watch, but not one that I'd necessarily need to watch again.

Redemption in All Forms.

This series is more aptly named "Love's Redemption".

It's about love in its many forms. Lovers, parental, siblings, unrequited love, infatuations, loyalties and material greed. Sprinkle in fast pace tales of corporate greed, business intrigues, societal differences and there is a tapestry of stories that link up cohesively into a fireworks like finale. The biggest sticking point must be the somewhat incredulous qualification of a three month period of unquestionable devotion in a huge contract from a Russian! And there is also the full head of hair after major brain surgery .......

I admit I watched this for ZLS, and it is a redemption for her from her disastrous "Hidden Love". She morphed through several characterizations with much credibility and ease, beginning from a neglected childhood in the countryside to a struggling newbie maneuvering corporate politics in the big city. She went from deviously scheming affection for matrimonial gains to dealing with deep emotional turmoil and finally culminating into a mature loving partner, mother, daughter and friend. Knowing of her recent personal tribulations, this is truly a monumental work for her. Her only blotch is an incongruously done upper lip job that sticks out unnaturally.

WC literally fitted into the ML as Haoming. It is as if the series was written for him. Just like ZLS, as Xu Yan, he found redemption for his errors to be a better son, partner, colleague and person. But the period when he was abroad seem too fashioned after how a "Westernised" Chinese would behave, unbelievable. Easy love? Keeping a baby? Eyes roll.

I found WP as Qiao Lin as one of the most intriguing character. She comes across as refreshing, earnest and the best sibling, friend and colleague that one could wish for. In some ways, she out shone ZLS, especially with her authenticity in both looks and behaviour.

A perfect blend of romance, tension & ambition

It’s been a long time since I’ve watched a really good drama that made me binge watch it all the way through. So many dramas start out good then get boring halfway through. The story becomes stale or it gets repetitive with the main leads pushing and pulling back and forth too much. But this drama never had a dull moment. You can tell it was a high end production with a huge budget too.

Storyline:
I like how the story starts with the main leads as a happily married couple, it’s an unusual storyline you don’t usually see in Asian dramas. Then you start to see the cracks in their perfect marriage. It’s a story about honesty, ambition, independence and emotional growth. I like how fiercely independent the female lead is, her decision to leave her comfortable, pampered life and start all over with nothing was inspiring. And seeing the male lead humbly accept his mistakes and do everything he could to fix things was refreshing. He went from the cold CEO to the caring partner that always had her back no matter what, so seamlessly. I also loved how cute and funny it was, the comedy was perfectly timed to ease the tension. I appreciated seeing so much character growth too. Overall I felt like the storyline was very good, I have no complaints about it at all. And it never dragged and even had a few unexpected plot twists too.

Acting:
Lusi (the FL) outdid herself in this role. She really pulls you into her character and gives you all the feels. My emotions were all over the place but in a good way. She’s one of my favorite actresses and she absolutely shined in this role like it was made for her. I had never heard of the ML but I was very impressed with his acting. He went seamlessly from the cold CEO to the bumbling lovesick husband with no clue how to get his wife back. He made me laugh many times, but I was rooting for him. I like how well fleshed out all of the characters in the drama are. There are two secondary romances that are well acted and interesting too. Overall I give high marks to the acting in this drama.

Production & cinematography:
From the beginning you can tell this is a high end production by a major studio with a large budget. The wardrobe, set design, lighting, music & cinematography were amazing. It is one of the best put together dramas I’ve seen in ages. I’d compare it to Goblin or Crash Landing On You in regards to its overall production quality.

Romance:
You can’t watch a romantic drama and not talk about the romance in it. I hate reviews that don’t include this topic. The romance was really good and the main leads had amazing chemistry. There’s lots of kisses, cuddles, piggyback rides, hand holding & skinship. There’s also a few sexy bedroom scenes. The two secondary romances are pretty good too and I’m not usually into them much. I usually find them annoying because the storyline isn’t interesting or they spend too much time on them. But both of the other romances are good and add to the drama.

My overall thoughts:
I’ve been in a bit of a drama slump the last year or so. None of the new dramas have been anywhere near as good as the ones from over ten years ago when I first started watching Asian dramas. Lately they’ve captured my interest then got boring halfway through. I’ve had trouble finishing a lot of the dramas I’ve started lately. But this drama gave me hope because I ended up binge watching it (just like old times) in a couple of weeks, which I haven’t done in ages. I don’t really have any negative things to say about this drama. It was really good, I highly recommend it. It’s probably going to be one of those comfort dramas I watch over and over again because it’s so enjoyable to watch.

Started great but kinda went downhill

I LOVE zhaolusi and she really ate with the outifts. The beginning is so good, the plot, supense, hair, makeup, outfits. I really enjoyed that "trying to fit in high society" vibe and the elegance. It kinda went downhill when Xu Yan broke up with Haoming and lowk got boring when she started the business. Don't get me wrong, I love independant women but I don't really wanna watch how she builds a business... I loved the cryinng scenes, I felt so sad and cried too... Haoming pmo so bad like Xuyan should have ended alone as like a news anchor or something. I would def rewatch the first half but might not watch the second. The only part of the second part I liked was the food blogger part, I thought it was funny.

Love’s Ambition was such a good watch. I really enjoyed it in the beginning, and although my interest started to waver toward the end, overall, I still liked it. What immediately stood out to me was how the drama started with the couple already married. That alone felt refreshingly different from the usual “meet, fall in love, misunderstand, separate” formula. We were dropped straight into the chaos of two people who looked perfect on the outside but were slowly crumbling underneath the surface. It made for such an intriguing start; watching them navigate love, ambition, and pride while keeping up appearances.

Zhao Lusi absolutely ate this role. She looked incredible in every single outfit, from elegant dresses to chic casual fits, she radiated confidence and style in every frame. But beyond her looks, what really pulled me in was how naturally she expressed emotion. Zhao Lusi has that rare ability to say a thousand things just through her eyes, the way she smiles while clearly holding back pain, or pretends to be fine when she’s breaking inside. Every little flicker of emotion felt real. She played Xu Yan with such layered vulnerability that you couldn’t help but root for her, even when she wasn’t entirely honest.

William Chan also did great as Shen Haoming. On the surface, he was the perfect husband: gentle, composed, attentive, basically the dream partner. But beneath that calm exterior, he was detached, emotionally distant, and unaware of how much damage that perfection was doing. The irony is that while Xu Yan built a life based on lies and pretense to be worthy of him, he was doing his own pretending, too. Watching him slowly realize how deeply he actually loved her too late, of course, was both satisfying and frustrating. Their chemistry though? Off the charts. From their subtle glances to their more intense scenes, you could feel the tension, the push and pull, the unspoken longing. They made the relationship feel messy, real, and painfully human.

The tone of the drama was also a great mix: flirty, serious, silly, and occasionally heart-wrenching. It had all the elements that make a modern romance addictive, and both leads carried that energy effortlessly. But what stood out most to me was Xu Yan’s growth. After all the lies, the fake background, the made-up image, the exhausting act of trying to fit into a world that wasn’t hers, she finally learned to live for herself. She learned to stop performing and start being real. That part of her journey was honestly the most beautiful thing about the drama. Which is exactly why I kind of wish she hadn’t gone back to Shen Haoming. I know, I know, he regretted everything, realized his feelings, chased after her, got jealous, and groveled like his life depended on it. But still, after everything she’d been through, I wanted her to choose herself this time. She deserved a clean slate, free from the lies she once created for him. But hey, I guess it’s drama land for a reason, they love their reconciliations, no matter how bittersweet.

All that said, Love’s Ambition was still a gorgeous and emotionally engaging ride. Zhao Lusi and William Chan’s chemistry carried the show, the fashion and visuals were stunning, and the emotional beats hit where they needed to. Even if I didn’t love the ending, I can’t deny that it was a passionate and beautifully told story about love, self-worth, and learning when to stop pretending.

10/10 minus nothing!!!

Love’s Ambition finally dropped and I’m actually screaming 😭😭 Lusi is out here serving something completely new , this role is a whole different dimension from her usual and she’s absolutely killing it. Every emotion, every line delivery just hits so hard.
And then the styling??? The fact that she styled HERSELF for this drama is insane 🤸 every single look is fire and fits her character so perfectly. She’s literally acting and serving fashion icon at the same time y'all.. I really have to develop a lot of patience waiting for the remaining episodes.... Just 4 episodes and I'm completely hooked!!!!
