South Korean celebrity Han Joon Oh, secretly battling deep insecurities, is rescued from a near-fatal car accident by firefighter Kang Young Hwa. Impressed by her heroism, his team hires her as his bodyguard. However, after waking in the hospital, Han Joon Oh finds himself possessed by the vengeful spirit of Do Ha, a nobleman from ancient Korea, determined to seek justice for his betrayal and death.

Even though they’re different, they share this beautifully haunting energy that really pulls you in.

The Haunted Palace leans into gothic mystery and ghosts of the past, while Lovers of the Red Sky wraps you in a dreamy, historical fantasy with gods, demons, and a love story cursed by fate. The visuals are stunning in both, moody and cinematic in Palace, rich and mythical in Red Sky.

What really connects them for me is how both shows explore love, loss, and forces beyond our control, all through complex characters who are trying to survive a world shaped by the supernatural.

both shows have themes of folklore & possession within a historical setting.
in TDHR, Ban Xia, the female lead, is seen by others as mentally unstable because she can see demons, just like Yeo Ri, who rejected her fate as a shaman despite being spiritually gifted bc of the backlash by her townsfolk. The male lead, Xuan Ye, is a demon hunter assigned to maintain order in Guangping City, which, like the haunted palace in THP, is plagued by malevolent spirits. But Xuan Ye, much like Yun Gap, is secretly connected to the dark forces he’s supposed to fight (he’s suspected of being a demon himself) which mirrors Yun Gap’s possession by the Imoogi.
Their partnership in solving supernatural cases is similar to the the alliance between Yun Gap, Yeo Ri, and King Yi Seong as they unravel the palace’s tragic past tied to vengeful spirits.

- a deity is attached to a mortal girl
- they are trying to save as many ghosts as they can
- the ML is both cold and arrogantly funny
- the FL is serious and has a tragic past

but I hope THP has a happy ending, unlike Korean Odyssey

Both dramas involve a dragon who couldn't ascend so they became Imoogi. Other supernatural creatures of the Korean folklore also appear and have a part to play in the story.

Both dramas also involve a love story that dates way back (ML is an immortal/very much older than the FL in both cases).

Same director. Same sense of humour. Some of the same cast (not the leads though). At least part of the decor and styling is the same (the historical setting).

Both dramas involve soul/body swapping and adjusting to new circumstances for one of the lead characters.

- The Haunted Palace focuses on spirit possession, while AOS is soul possession
- Soul swapping (powerful character's soul ends up in a "weak" mortal body)
- Sageuk kdrama, palace conspiracy with fantasy element
- Main leads become reluctant allies
