Unexpectedly Cute!
The story follows Ryo a brilliant lawyer with a stone face, a harsh manner and no love life. Until Haruto bulldozes his way into his life and home. At first, Ryo is understandably skeptical of Haruto, but he gradually warms up to him, until he finds out Haruto is a con-artist. After kicking Haruto out of his house, Ryo realizes he misses Haruto and has fallen in love with him.I love the comedy relief in this show. From Ryo's awkwardness with affection to his impromptu daydreaming about Haruto, he's such a lovable character. I'll update more once the show ends.
**Update**
This show has become my comfort drama. Sometimes I let it play in the background while I do other things. It's just so good. Watching Ryo fall in love against his will was hilariously satisfying. I also appreciate how the show never took the turn of "oh you're gay now you have to hide your relationship from your boss and your colleagues".
Ryo fell head over heels in love and never looked back. He embraced Haruto, flaws and all and Haruto gained a new perspective on life and what he wanted to do with his.
This show is fantastic!

This is a Sleeper Hit! Just Wonderfully Entertaining!!
By every standard, this series should not have worked. It is an overused plot line with cliché and predictable character-types but it is so damn charming and just so weirdly twisted that, like a freshly made bowl of popcorn, I could not stop consuming the series. It is funny, witty, joyful, and addictively entertaining. It is also assiduously sad, melancholic, and depressing. If you could compare life to a coin, this is what it would be like if you flipped it. Happy/sad. Heartwarming/melancholic. Charming/reprehensible. It literally is a story of opposites that should not have worked but did.Was this review helpful to you?

my first bl in general, cute and not too dramatic
it was quite, adorable like, it was my first ever bl that l watched at 11 and made me fall in love with bl, the story was very short and no big stuff or anything. the acting was on point and actors where so fine/cute. The music was on point as well it made things interesting. And the fact that it was short and not too emotional made it easy to rewatch 🎀forever one of my favs. ...................................................................................... .....................................

Binge it.(This is a ramble)
I binged it with my sister. Best decision ever, I literally loved this sm and so did my sister. The plot was plotting and I like how they're both crazy enough to talk to plants, literally made for each other. Also Haruto basically becoming a house husband is so cute, I absolutely loved everything about ths.Was this review helpful to you?
Season 2
The first season, ended with a thud. Every episode was played brilliantly by the actors. An unexpected ending. Winning in court, lifted spirits. I wanted to ask you all if there is any information about the second season of Love is a Poison? I hope that the Japanese TV station TBS will think about it.Was this review helpful to you?

Silly Lawyers My Beloved
I'm a complete sucker for a good Silly Lawyer story (thank you Ace Attorney for irreversibly altering my brain chemistry) so it's no wonder I came running as fast as my little legs would carry me when I heard about this show. And I was not disappointed! This show is all I had hoped it would be and more.
Is it extremely silly? Yes. (this is plus in my book)
Does the story veer into the melodramatic occasionally, especially in regards to Haruto's backstory? It sure does.
But despite (or maybe because of) that, it is also one of the most unabashedly entertaining, joyful, and simply *fun* shows I've seen in a very long time.
The characters are highly endearing, the comedy hits just right and balances well with the slightly more serious aspects of the story, the performances are absolutely perfect, and the fight scenes are shockingly well coordinated.
It's not easy to strike just the right balance between over-the-top silliness and dead-seriousness, but this show NAILS it! From Ryo's dead-pan line delivery, to Haruto's exuberant cheekiness, to Kazama inexplicably leaving a room by walking backwards while cackling maniacally - it all blends together in a way that made me genuinely laugh out loud at least once per episode.
And the most pleasant surprise of all: the queer representation is actually good! I was somewhat concerned at the beginning that Haruto's blackmail and violation of Ryo's privacy would lead to a potentially iffy relationship dynamic, but this is not the case at all. The time Ryo spends at Haruto's mercy is very brief and the two go from mutually using one another to genuine affection fairly quickly. And once they are in a relationship with each other, they make it work perfectly through communication and unwavering support for one another.
It's so genuinely touching I found myself tearing up at times which I did not think possible for a show this objectively ridiculous.
In short: this show is a damn gem and I urge anyone looking for a good romcom to go watch it already! It has court room drama, delicious food, and a herd of cacti being treated with the respect and adoration they deserve, everything the heart desires!

For the people who struggle to focus on things
I usually can't sit down and watch something for more than one or two episodes without getting distracted. However, it took me two days to finish this one. I watched 6 episodes in one sitting for each day. The plot twists are insane and it really keeps you interested. I was shocked that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Please watch this! You won't regret itWas this review helpful to you?

quirky series with some darker moments
Overall: I enjoyed the quirky aspect though something kept me from fully rooting for their relationship for awhile. This series was adapted from a manga "Doku Koi: Doku mo Sugireba Koi to Naru" by Makino Keisuke which I haven't read and I reviewed the series on its own merits. Partway through its release in Japan, it started airing on Netflix in some countries https://www.netflix.com/title/81766555 ; re-aired on Viki in April 2025 https://www.viki.com/tv/40968c-love-is-a-poisonContent Warning: manipulation, blackmail, beaten up, past murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, non con picture taking/sharing
What I Liked
- the opposite personality dynamic
- made me laugh a few times
- the friend
- good dreams
- the tie pull
- sweet/caring moments
- the plants/quirky humor moments
- a character stood up for their relationship
Room For Improvement
- it was difficult to root for their relationship because the writers weren't clear about a character/his motivations for a long time, they finally communicated in episode 11
- how a supposed super intelligent lawyer started asking questions at the end of episode 7
- the camera did an odd 360 rotation during a scene

A Stoic Lawyer and A flirty Con-Artist
This Netflix series, despite its remarkably brief overall duration, manages to engage viewers fully, ensuring that not a second is wasted on unnecessary filler or distractions. So far, I have only watched two episodes, and I must say that it has proven to be extremely intriguing and captivating. I especially appreciate how each and every scene flows effortlessly into the next, creating a seamless narrative experience that feels cohesive and well-crafted, all the while ensuring that no important details are overlooked or neglected. This meticulous attention to storytelling truly enhances the viewing experience and invites deeper immersion into the plot and characters.I have only had the opportunity to become familiar with Hama Shogo through his portrayal of a supporting character in the captivating series 'Zettai BL ni naru sekai,' where he delivered a performance that added depth to the storyline. On the other hand, my experience with Hyodo Katsumi extends beyond just one series, as I have seen him in the wonderful and memorable baseball-themed series titled 'Gekokujo Kyuji,' where his acting was truly magnificent and showcased his remarkable talent, making a lasting impression that resonated with the audience.
So far this series is promising. i cant wait to finish this.

Nice Light Fluffy Series
Finally got to see esp 12. That was hard going.I really enjoyed this, is was quick, light and fluffy. Many wholes but nothing is perfect.
Loved Shiba, he was super cute and sexy in his own way. Actor Hama did a great job. Haruto was a world wind and very loving towards Shiba, though you were always left wondering was he just scamming Shiba, but he wasn't. Actor Hyodo also did a great job.
Shout out to the talking plants 😀😀, rest of cast were good.
Didnt notice music
