Boyfriend on Demand: A Perfect Blend of Romance, Chemistry, and Cinematic Beauty.

I genuinely enjoyed this drama from beginning to end. What impressed me the most was the chemistry between all the characters. The relationship between the main leads felt very natural and effortless, and their interactions never looked forced. Jisoo and Seo In Guk portrayed their characters with such comfortable and realistic romantic acting that it made the emotional moments feel very genuine and romantic moments were🤭🤭🤭☺️☺️ I felt like I am intruding them😁.

Another thing I really loved about the drama was how even the cameo appearances blended so well with the storyline. The interactions between the female lead and the cameo characters added freshness to the narrative and made the story feel more lively and interesting.

Visually, the drama is absolutely beautiful. The locations were stunning and added a dreamy atmosphere to the story. The cinematography captured these settings perfectly, making many scenes feel almost cinematic. The direction was also very smooth, and the pacing of the story was well balanced. The editing kept the flow of the episodes engaging without feeling rushed or dragged.

The production quality deserves special mention as well. The VFX were used subtly but effectively, enhancing certain scenes without looking exaggerated. Everything felt polished and carefully put together.

I also really loved the OST. The music complemented the emotional tone of the drama perfectly and made many scenes even more memorable.

Overall, Boyfriend on Demand is a very enjoyable drama with a charming storyline, beautiful visuals, and great performances. The chemistry between the actors, especially Jisoo and Seo In Guk, is one of its strongest points, and it makes the romance feel warm and believable. It is definitely a drama I would happily recommend to anyone who enjoys romantic K-dramas with strong character connections and beautiful production quality.

The past can hold you back from better things.

Lately I haven’t been watching any new kdramas since I haven’t seen anything that had caught my attention but when I saw the trailer for this drama. I was very excited to see a something different and not the same concept as other shows.

In the show the FL had given up on dating because of a heart break. Through the boyfriend on demand VR experience she started to feel feelings she thought she had once lost but even though she had realized that she knew that at the end it wasn’t real. Once the VR experience and reality started to become similar and her feelings became complicated. She had to make a choice between starting something new with someone who was real and at the end maybe get hurt or be in the VR world where she knows there doesn’t need to be an end but it won’t be real. When she made her choice to be with the ML she was afraid at first and she knows that everything won’t be perfect but she wanted to do her best with someone who she likes.

Our lives are based on every choice we make and we shouldn’t let past experiences hold us back from greater things from happening.

I honestly really enjoyed this drama it was something different and even unique in my own opinion. I really loved the acting and the cast.

you can pick any episodes to rewatch

At first I have my doubts how they'll make the story goes since it's about virtual dating. But halfway through, Mirae is having doubts with love and almost shut herself from her true feelings just so she won't get hurt again. It tells how what it takes between reality and fantasy is in our own decision. Mirae could've keep going to Gyeongil the perfect version of man he loves, but she chose Kyungnam when they start to communicate their feelings.

I love how the story did not drag their 'silent treatment' and instead of having a big fight, he tries to understand her and she tries to accept him even when she's scared to commit to love again. Even I am rooting for Gyeongil than Kyungnam because he is the more open and fun guy, and there's no worry of him shutting himself away from her (except if she stops paying subscription lol).

Mirae is this super cute and clingy girlfriend despite being strong and stubborn at work. The contrast is really fun to watch. Funnily, none of their colleagues believe they are dating, probably would have lost their mind if they see how cute Mirae is with her bf. Kyungnam is mature and calm man, he notices the littlest things about Mirae. And cutely doing things that she loves for her.

I'd rewatch this again whenever I feel like having a giddy feeling, any episode of this series can do the deal. But if you want to focus on Mirae-Kyungnam love story, you can rewatch the second half onwards. I hope there'll be 2nd season of them but then again, it wouldn't be Boyfriend On Demand unless they broke up.

A Drama Worth Watching Despite the Unfair Criticism

I just finished watching this drama, and honestly the low ratings and negative comments feel unfair. A lot of the criticism seems to focus on the female lead because she’s from a big K-pop group instead of judging the story itself.

The drama is actually well written and reflects real-life situations many women go through—especially the fear of falling in love again after a failed relationship. With the help of AI, the story slowly uncovers the emotions she buried deep inside while meeting different people, each with their own stories and lessons.

My favorite pairing is with seo kang joon—they really have great chemistry. But more than that, the scene where she remembers her ex while she’s with him was so emotional. It felt like the moment she finally started accepting what happened in her past relationship, and it honestly made me teary. The actress portrayed that scene so well—you could really feel all the emotions.

I really hope they get another drama together. I also hope people give this drama a fair chance and focus on the story, not on who the actress is, especially when some feedback clearly comes from people who already dislike her or her group.

PS: I’m not really into K-pop groups—I’m more into good TV series and movies. I rarely post reviews, but this drama truly deserves fair feedback and better ratings.

A nostalgic 9/10 that prioritizes "Comfort" over "Complexity"

If you’ve been struggling to finish K-dramas lately because they feel "too serious" or "too Western," you need to watch this. It’s a total throwback to the 2017–2018 era of dramas like What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim and Legend of the Blue Sea.
1.Why I loved it:
It was so comforting. It’s not trying to be a complex masterpiece. It’s just fun, silly, and full of butterflies.
2.Relatable Lead: People are pressed about the "AI dating" aspect, but the FL just perfectly captures that feeling of being too tired for real-life dating. It hit home for me.
3.The Vibes: It reminded me why I fell in love with K-dramas in the first place the tropes, the warmth, and that "stay up all night" excitement.
4.Final Thoughts:
It’s nostalgic, charming, and genuinely happy. It feels like a warm hug after a long day. If you miss the classic rom-com formula without the crazy plot twists every five minutes, don’t skip this one!

Too cliche, not for me

Honestly? This one was too cliché for me.

I tried to get into it—I really did. But it was just too much. Even though I enjoy watching no-brainer dramas from time to time, this one felt like a waste of my time. I dropped it at episode 3.

I usually like Seo In Guk, and the other famous "boyfriend" leads were fine, but even they couldn't convince me to keep watching. The story didn't grab me, the tropes felt overdone, and I just wasn't invested.

Not for me.

Something fun and sweet is all you need~ ଘ(੭ꆤᴗꆤ)━☆゚.*

The story follows a webtoon PD, Seo Mi Rae, on her unexpected, bubbly journey for love once again. [Boyfriend on Demand] is the perfect K-drama for those of us who want to watch something fun, cute, and, more than anything, a fresh take on romance and modern relationship dynamics, especially in Asia. It shows us what realities we face when it comes to dating, and the physical and emotional toll it takes.

In a world full of inconsistencies and discrimination, many people face pressures from their family to search for their other half, as if it were a social norm or cultural expectation. However, sometimes life gives us lemons, and not every individual is a ‘lottery winner,’ nor does everyone have the strength to make lemonade. VR boyfriends like the chaebol Choi Si U, everyone’s first love Seo Eun Ho, or the one and only Koo Yeong Il may not be the solution to this situation. Still, their existence surely helped heal those who were hurt and lost, offered much-needed advice, and, most importantly, became a huge source of encouragement to the women who needed more self-love. This evokes a desire to escape mundane reality. We all deserve a break from disappointments, while also pursuing love the way we want and healing during the process~

However, moderation is key! Over-exploitation of the service will definitely produce unfavourable results, such as:
(1) financial problems,
(2) an addiction to virtual reality, which could cause health problems, and
(3) disrupt human relationships in the waking life, etc…

(Ahaha, it’s not like the DU-verse actually exists. ʕ๑•́ᴥ•̀๑ʔ I’m being dramatic~)

. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .

ACTING/CAST:

Despite being a rookie actress, Ji Soo delivered her role as Seo Mi Rae, a woman who fears that love will abandon her yet again, leaving her with recurring scars. Mi Rae is totally relatable to me, and maybe that’s one of the reasons why I have a soft spot for this drama. She might not be perfect, but this young woman gives it her all. Ji Soo’s character can be seen as frustrating at times, but that was her way of protecting herself. She’s a normal human being, just like anyone after all, someone who made mistakes and faced failures.

I was sceptical of her performance and thought her male costars would outshine her, but Ji Soo proved me wrong. The singer-actress is definitely making progress in her acting career. Her characters so far have been normal and realistic, and she managed to portray them without being over-the-top.【 ♡ Somehow I see Lim Ji Yeon and Park Min Young in Ji Soo’s character... When she smiles with crescent eyes, the actress resembles Lim Ji Yeon, while her surprised expression reminds me of Park Min Young.. Probably just me.. ପ₍ᐢ๑• ֊ •๑ᐢ₎ଓ⌒☆ 】

Seo In Guk impressively portrays dual roles as Park Gyeong Nam, a stoic webtoon PD, and Koo Yeong Il, Mi Rae’s ideal VR boyfriend. Gyeong Nam is reserved and keeps to himself (a typical Kuudere), while Koo Yeong Il embodies the perfect boyfriend: mysterious, cool, and comforting. Despite being the same person, their contrasting personalities are clearly defined due to In Guk’s extraordinary acting skills.

Of course, we absolutely can’t forget all the cameo appearances of some of the hottest Korean celebrities who are oozing with charisma! What undeniably drew me and, I’m sure, everyone else in is the array of these ultra handsome individuals who tug at our heartstrings~ They are absolute eye candies that soothe our hearts, the perfect examples of “Boyfriend on Demand”… ˖˚˳⌖ ଘ꒰ ⸝⸝ᴗ͈ ̫ ᴗ͈⸝⸝꒱♡ ⌖ ˖°

. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .

Last but not least, I enjoyed this light-hearted drama not only for the beautiful visuals but also for its simple yet unique storyline. Unlike the usual plot-heavy dramas, “Boyfriend on Demand” provided a much-needed break from the stressful cycle of mundane life that we inevitably face every day. It’s a delight to ‘visit’ the Philippines through the screen, and with Mi Rae, we get to travel to all the scenic destinations, offering a fantastical escape to a dream-like world!

I have no idea what I was supposed to be feeling...

...so I felt nothing.

There were very few good parts about this show, and they all involved Seo In Guk.

Most of the show, the "heroine" is dating imaginary men, so you don't really have anyone to cheer for. Plus, they all last for about 5 minutes and up to half an episode. The dating parts aren't even fun or watchable. It's just her showing different outfits and hairstyles, and the men being as cheesy as possible. So cheesy that even she hated it. The writer maybe thought it was going to be sort of a comic relief, but there was nothing comical about it and I just skipped through all of it as it had exactly ZERO percent affect on the story.

The second part of the show gets a little better, once we get to know Seo In Guk's thoughts because - Yay, finally a real person to cheer for.

I hated the acting of everyone here, even Gong Min Jeung who is usually really fun and often times a scene-stealer.

But the main character is just the worst, comparable to Dear X's female lead. The first thing we learn about her is she was working overtime so much that she left her boyfriend wait for her for hours at a restaurant on his birthday, and then makes it look like him breaking up with her was completely unnecessary and like he's the bad guy.
Whenever she does something wrong, it's someone else's fault, and it never changes throughout. At one point she gets on a bus to run away from a very polite Seo In Guk, and then blames him for not telling her the bus was going to Incheon.

All in all, I'm left baffled as to what the show was trying to tell, since there was barely any romance (with 'real life' people), no funny scenes (which are usually kept for second leads, but who even were second leads here?), no character development (or introduction even) and no lesson or theme conveyed.

All in all, I may be in the minority here, but do not recommend 3/10.

A Romance That Can't Compete With Its Own Fantasy

The series starts with a genuinely interesting idea: a virtual reality app where users can experience the perfect romantic partner. An algorithm creates the ideal man — attentive, attractive, always available, always saying exactly what you want to hear.

For a brief moment, the show even seems aware of the implications. It hints at something deeper: the illusion of algorithmic romance and the uncomfortable gap between artificial validation and real human relationships.

But that idea quickly disappears.

By the middle of the series, the AI concept is mostly abandoned and the story falls back into a very familiar K-drama formula. The heroine repeatedly rejects the real man in her life — not because she dislikes him, but because no human can realistically compete with a fantasy designed to be perfect.

Ironically, the show criticizes this exact problem within its own dialogue. In one scene a writer complains that people read her webtoon only because the male lead is handsome. In another, a character dismisses concerns about childish storytelling by pointing out that many successful webtoons are built on simple plots.

In the end, this drama becomes the very thing it quietly mocked.

When the protagonist finally chooses the real man, it doesn’t feel like a meaningful decision. It feels like resignation.

Almost as if the message were:
This is the best reality can offer.

Which leaves the audience with an unintended question:

Is a perfect illusion better than an imperfect reality?

the classic korean romance and enemies to love

The theme of meeting a boyfriend through an app caught my attention, but the romance between the two characters is a classic Korean romance... I love the classic, FL unsure if she really likes ML, she rejects him, but he doesn't give up.

It's a good drama, the part showing FL's story with her ex-boyfriend moved me, I wasn't expecting it!

The main actor acted according to the character, cold and distant at times, and has "enemies to love" which I love, it had been a while since I watched a good "enemies to love" drama.

Why wouldn't I watch it again? It's very rare for me to rewatch K-dramas, so once is enough.

A Promising Idea That Falls Short

Boyfriend on Demand starts with an interesting concept but struggles to fully deliver on its potential. The drama presents a unique premise around a service that allows people to experience a “boyfriend on demand,” which initially feels fresh and intriguing. However, as the story progresses, the plot becomes somewhat predictable and lacks strong emotional depth.

The main leads share some decent chemistry, but their relationship development feels rushed at times. While the drama includes a few lighthearted and cute moments, it doesn’t maintain a consistent balance between romance and storytelling. Some side characters add small bits of humor, yet they aren’t explored enough to leave a strong impression.

The pacing also feels uneven, with certain episodes dragging while others move too quickly. Visually, the drama is clean and modern, fitting its romantic-comedy tone. Overall, despite its creative idea, *Boyfriend on Demand* ends up being a fairly average watch that may still appeal to viewers looking for a simple and easy romance.

My Rating 6/10

Good if you watch 1/3 of it at 2x speed

There is a lot that works about this drama, even (in theory) the non-traditional format of multiple virtual "ML"s and a slower burn for the REAL ML. But it had a couple of weaknesses that made everything kinda unravel.

What works unconditionally:
- SIG. He is aging like a fine wine, and adds some really beautiful and subtle layers into a very understated character that weren't really in the writing, and he is without a doubt the best thing about this show. It's like a breath of fresh air once he's actually given room to fully embody his character, and those few episdoes after the mid point are the best of the show by far.
- The cameos and parody of romcoms and dating: The social commentary and poking fun at the romance genre in general provided a lot of laughs. And having a rotating cadre of famous MLs as the virtual boyfriends was delightful.

What sunk the show:
- The FL was too capricious. (I blame the writing as much as I blame Jisoo's performance). She vacillated between being oblivious of the ML or hating him up until she suddenly realized she liked him, then vacillated between wanting to be with him and wanting to never see him again up until pretty much the last moments of the show.

For the first half, if the underlying sexual tension beneath their "hate"had been played up and they'd gotten a lot more scenes together with those fun romcom "charged" moments, showing their growing attraction and conenction even while pretending to dislike each other, the virtual boyfriend format would have worked wonderfully, but little about their interactions were romantically compelling. We only see after the halfway point how absolutely smitten with the FL the ML has been this whole time, and I found myself screaming at my screen a little bit asking the show WHY they hadn't shown us more of this beforehand.

For the second half after they confess, the ML is super steadfast and consistent, but the FL refuses to learn despite making the same mistake over and over and over again and having terrible consequences. She keeps hiding things, lying to him, not facing her own feelings, and not just asking basic, easy questions or communicating. It just made their love seem childish rather than poignant by the end.

Another issue is the virtual bofyriends are given either too little or too much. Having one virtual boyfriend become almost a second lead, then another become an almost other second lead, while others are there for a half an ep, or for just one scene, made it all seem chaotic and uneven and made it hard to follow the threads of the themes or meaningful substance of the show. The boyfriends should have been more carefully paced and tied much better into the overall plot and FLs character arc than they were.

The final issue is that ALL of the IRL side charactesr are weak. They're just there to be people for the ML and FL to talk to. None of the other charactesr have character arcs or real goals or actually change by the end, or pull you in emotionally. you don't really care about any of them. Had some of them had interesting side stories to add, it would have helped keep the interest until the main story takes off.

Overall it was sometimes fun, funny, romantic, moving, and even poignant but I would not have gotten through it without heavy use of the 2x speed function.
