From Curls to Confidence: A Heartwarming 90s Nostalgia Trip
A feel-good, coming-of-age movie set in the nostalgic late '90s, with a wonderful cast that truly shines. As teens, we’ve all had insecurities—wanting to fit in, wishing for straight hair instead of curls. This film captures those relatable moments perfectly, bringing back memories of youth. It’s reminiscent of "20th Century Girl," but thankfully skips the unnecessary sad ending.Shin Eun Soo is spot-on for her role, and I was shocked to learn Gong Myung is over 30—he nails the high school vibe effortlessly. It’s not a masterpiece, but it doesn’t need to be. This movie is a lighthearted, easy watch that’s not meant to be overanalyzed—just sit back and enjoy it!
I would have loved to learn more about how the main lead overcame his struggles with moving to America or his relationship with his dad, but I understand that might have dragged the movie out too long.

Fun and cute little watch
It was obviously very predictable and full of typical teen-romance tropes but I still enjoyed it, especially the beginning. The end reminded me a little bit of twenty-five twenty-one, with the phone booth calls and then even her hair was puffy too, she also liked reading comics, the whole 90s setting, and the male love interest was also a bit older… it was very very similar just without all the fencing and in movie format.
it was ok and at least it had a happy ending which obviously was one of the differences from twenty-five, twenty-one.

warm and youthful
tbh I had very high expectations from this because it gave me 20th century girl vibe but I believe this was beautiful in itself there's no need for comparison.it's a classic cute high school romance with a happy ending and filled with beach scenes, trips, small town, a small friends group, all with youthful energy. the way both the main characters got into a relationship was beautiful.
no melodrama pure innocent of high schoolers.
a really good movie if you just wanna watch something fun, fluffy

A sea of emotions and nostalgia
This is a sweet movie of friendships, hardship, and I guess a bunch of ships in a sea of emotions.Life is not always easy, while the story starts out more or less fluffy and youth, puppy love ish... It does take a dive in the depths of the ocean.
Our leads do a phenomenal job conveying each and every emotion, they broke my heart several time and offered a back story that I guess had to be told. The contrast between the youthful, innocent cheer and the darkness is done really well. It is constantly there lurking behind without robbing the youthfulness of the story.
A great combination, well executed and with gorgeous cinematography and just enough hints of the past to make this old lady smile. .

the personality of the FL is SO ADORABLE
This movie is something else. There is nothing so special about the plot, but sometimes we really need such movies, and it's rare to watch such ones with really great acting, a beautiful OST, and overall production. I really liked how they merged the shore sounds; it helped me to relax, It's simple, sweet, and lighthearted for a break from the heavy plots of K-drama.Was this review helpful to you?

To be young and in love in the late 90s
I just love youth love stories set in the 90s/early 2000s so much. Something about the nostalgic music, the pagers, the comic books and tape cassettes always tugs something in my heart.I loved this. It was funny and nothing too complex, but sometimes that is more than enough. The friendship and portrayal of first love were the highlights, and the cast was great. I almost forgot that Gong Myung is in his thirties now. He is such a natural with that face and the acting. I have loved Shin Eun Soo since Twinkling Watermelon, and it was as if she and Ha Yi Chan swapped roles. She was so chaotic here in comparison to Twinkling Watermelon, and it just shows her range and versatility as an actress. Can't wait to see more of her. And my dearest So I from Single's Inferno, she's such a great actress, and it's so good to see her in more and more support roles. I hope she can get even bigger roles; she's so refreshing to watch on screen.
If you loved the nostalgic vibes from 2521 and Twinkling Watermelon, this is for you.

Love Untangled: Chronicles of First Love
I watched this movie yesterday and was absolutely thrilled — it’s been a long time since I’ve seen something like this, and I realized how much I needed and missed a film that’s light, cute, and fun, yet carries deep meanings and symbolism in its storyline. It’s a way of addressing delicate topics in a softer, more accessible way.I’ll admit, at first I was nervous about what might happen because I was really disappointed by You Are the Apple of My Eye (2024), which I think was the last high school film that tackled themes like first love. I tried not to get my hopes up, but when I saw Shin Eun-Soo in the cast—oh my God—I got excited (and a little scared they might mess it up haha).
In Love Untangled, set in the 1990s, surrounded by beautiful, nostalgic, and identity-rich scenery, we closely follow the dilemmas of Park Se-Ri, a high school girl struggling with her curly hair. I believe the message becomes especially meaningful for women like me who, as children, felt ashamed of their hair when straight hair was the standard. I spent a lot of time with my hair tied up, didn’t like wearing it down because of the volume, and just like Park Se-Ri, I tried straightening it a few times—only to end up back at square one LOL.
Despite her love-hate relationship with her hair, Park Se-Ri decides to change it permanently to win over Kim Hyeon (played by Cha Woo-Min), the most popular boy in school, whom she met while diving in a spot she thought only she knew. From that moment, her heart is flooded with a typical teenage crush that sees everything through the lens of “love”—all those little coincidences feel like signs from fate.
While trying to find Kim Hyeon naturally, she meets Han Yun-Seok (played by Gong Myung), a transfer student with a difficult life, and that’s when things start to get even more interesting. Personally, I’m enchanted by films that explore the definition and difference between infatuation and love.
Another detail in the movie is that, despite Park Se-Ri’s struggles with her hair, she has a support network—friends she can count on for anything, even her wildest ideas. They’re always in! She’s not a lonely girl at school or at home.
Overall, Love Untangled includes familiar tropes that are executed well. The story is light, sweet, and fun in just the right measure, where small gestures become huge when done with love—and where love doesn’t always arrive like a storm turning everything upside down. Sometimes, it’s as gentle as a sea breeze.

Cute Rom-Com
This was the most adorable high school rom-com. Loved every minute of it. No crazy plot twists, no crazy scenarios. Just a really good story about times in high school. Will definitely rewatch. I loved this so much. Love the actress, first saw her in Twinkling Watermelon, another good one. She plays the main character so well. Loved the friend group too.Was this review helpful to you?

Sweet and heartfelt love story
I thought Love Untangled would be just a fun, sweet little high school romance movie. That’s how it started, but the FL was charming even though see was overly fixated on the popular boy in her class — and finding a way to straighten her curly hair. She becomes friends with the new boy in her school, who joins her group of fiends.
The movie had some heartfelt moments with her friends, an unexpected situation with the ML mother and a hidden journal that brought a tear to my eye.

Overhype to the core
I left kdrama world for so long and decided to give this a try bcs everyone been raving about it but really it is a boring movie. Plot was basic, but the cast line up was even more disappointing. Nobody had a charming persona or good looking. I think the korean entertainment industry will loose a lot to china in this generation. I only like the accent they used. Was this review helpful to you?

Nearly untangled
The film follows the hollywood concept of casting someway way older to play up the 1 year age difference between teenage characters, but the male lead's acting and styling is good enough to not be distracting, especially as the rest of the teens are played by early to mid 20 something year olds. It's nice to see a high school narrative with no bullying involved and the teen characters are all charming, especially with their friendships, including between the two leads. The way the two realize and express their romance is lovely. The male lead and his mom suddenly has to deal with a whole domestic violence plot line that is suddenly resolved at the end with nary a verbal exposition to explain how he's free to return to Busan to be with the female lead. It feels like missing a whole episode of a kdrama. I feel like had the movie had even half an hour more instead of being cut off at 2 hours, they could have completed the storyline, it's so weird it's like a whole chunk got deleted. Either the movie needed to be longer or it should have been a mini series or even full drama series instead. It would have been nice to see a bit more of the second male love interest as well as he actually seemed like he had more dimensions to him, not being shallow, top hundred in scholastics, actually appreciating the female lead's actions, but that's not as consequential as the male lead's plot being entirely missing.
The film is still a cute watch, it just feels incomplete.
