An Unexpectedly Beautiful Drama!!
I went into Typhoon Family with low expectations after reading several negative reviews, but the series pleasantly surprised me. The performances are consistently strong, with the cast bringing warmth and sincerity to characters that could have easily felt distant or cold. What truly stands out is the chemistry between the leads and the way relationships are allowed to develop naturally, without unnecessary melodrama. Beneath the surface, the story explores family bonds, resilience, and quiet solidarity in times of crisis, making it far more intimate than I expected. It’s a subtle, thoughtful drama that rewards patience and lingers long after it ends! A definitely worth watching if you enjoy character-driven storytelling. Was this review helpful to you?

Loved it
I loved this drama and give it 10 out of 10 for the fact that it managed to capture life in such a realistic way. Indeed there are some complaining that the rythm of the series is pretty slow and I believe we all got used to instant gratification and search for adrenaline rush.Probably if it was not for Kim Min-ha and Lee Jun-ho I wouldnt have tried watching it.
I loved this series! All characters are very well built even the secondary ones. The storyline - well it has nothing exceptional but it managed to keep me watching. The good acting -there are many actors I knew and discovered with great enthusiasm. The music was amazing.
I mainly love it because it creates so realistic characters and captured perfectly how life unfolds… sometimes rush sometimes slow…
The ML after some hardship in his life grows from an almost carefree young man to one that confronts the hard reality, needs to adapt and grow. Loved his stuberness and sometimes young cockiness that of course sometimes puts him and the ones around in danger. The FL is “well versed in real life” hardships and melts little by little and dare to love and think also at her hapiness. As for the lead actors - they played so effortlessly it was that good.
I would recommend this drama with my eyes closed :))) Hope you enjoy it.
And I would definetly rewatch it.

Family and resilience through hard times. Character driven masterpiece.
The protagonists in this drama are honestly one of the most compelling leads I’ve seen in a while — sharp-minded, warmhearted, effortlessly charismatic, and just incredibly easy to root for. I will start out by saying that the show is heavily character driven rather than plot driven so if you dont like that then the show might not be for you but if a more character based show where it could seem a little slow at points is okay then this is great. Its definitely within my top 10 of 2025 dramas I've watched.I could rave about Junho for ages, but what really brings him to life is his performance, which always manages to stand out with his great acting. His portrayal captures that perfect mix of confidence and vulnerability. Even when he’s thrown into situations way beyond his comfort zone, he never shuts down. He asks questions, learns from his mistakes, and keeps moving forward though the IMF crisis that the show takes place during. That stubborn hopefulness — that refusal to let the world break him — becomes one of the memorable things for the whole series. With his determination, quick thinking, and the people who believe in him (the people in typhoon, the squad as I called them while watching XD), you can’t help but feel he’s destined to rise.
The FL, by Kim Min HA, is the perfect counterbalance. She’s capable, grounded, and so much more than the typical love interest. Her journey matters just as much — she has her own fears to face and her own battles to fight. And the supporting cast? They all add something real and meaningful. Everyone has a purpose, and everyone grows. By the end, it genuinely felt like every character had undergone a major shift.
What kept me hooked wasn’t just the plot, but how deeply human these characters felt. They were simply people trying to make it through an unforgiving time, holding on to each other in whatever way they could. That sincerity stayed with me long after the finale.

Typhoon drama
OMG, Typhoon Family completely stole my heart 😭💖. I went in expecting just another family/business drama, and suddenly I was crying into my snacks 🍿😭 and shipping them like crazy 💕. Kang Tae-poong is this annoyingly charming guy who’s forced to grow up way too fast when he takes over his dad’s struggling company during the 90s financial crisis . You can’t help but root for him through every mess-up and awkward moment. And then there’s Oh Mi-seon—smart, organized, kind, basically the adulting hero we all need . Their slow-burn relationship? Pure perfection 😍. The little teasing moments, awkward tension, and genuine care hit all the right feels .The cast is amazing . Lee Jun-ho nails that clueless-but-lovable charm while showing real emotional depth 🥺, and Kim Min-ha makes Mi-seon feel so grounded and relatable 💕. Even the side characters are memorable, hilarious , dramatic , or just plain adorable , which makes the world feel alive and full.
Also, the 90s setting is everything 🕹️👗📟. The fashion, the tech, the vibe of living through a financial crisis—it’s nostalgic but also adds real stakes to the story ⚡. Sure, some episodes drag a little with repeated setbacks, but honestly, that just gives you more time to obsess over the OTPs 💑💖.
If you love crying , laughing , shipping your heart out 💘, and getting emotionally wrecked in the best way 💔✨, Typhoon Family is a must-watch 🎬💯. Total 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

This drama has it's own charm.
StoryThis drama is made as same as people's common life. It tells us about 1980s IMF crisis and how hard was that time for korean people. Also this drama story feels like I'm watching in 2016 drama. It feels like old kdrama vibe. This drama give us more advices about life. In hard times we should believe and help each other. Story was quite different from other drama stories. I mean this is not rich man poor woman drama code. This based on real life and the characters was hard to live that time. But this drama gives a hottest feeling about family and people. Even this story wasn't major hit it isn't bad like people telling it. If you want to give it a try don't hesitate just watch.
Characters
It's obvious that my fv characters are kang tae poong and oh mi seon. They have a insane chemistry. ML & FL was strong in there ways. When things get hard they are good to rely on. I love tae poong character so much. He is good, forgivable, helpful, loveable character. Mi seon was also good FL. She helped many times tae poong without hoping anything from him.
Because of jun ho this drama was more attractive to me. He has his ways to charm and shine this drama. Kim min ha was suitable for mi seon's character. She has natural charm fits for the character. Also typhoon family employees acted well. With them drama is not boring but it becomes interesting.
Music
I really hoped strangers with flowers on a crowded train song will released. It so fit the train scene. I hear many times it. lee jun ho's song was soo good to hear. I also liked updraft mv from stray kids han. It was heart exciting ost. Other osts was good as well but i don't remember their names.
As a lee jun ho fan i never doubt about his dramas. He acted so many dramas and they were all became my fv. First episodes (especially the train) scene vibe was really amazing. It was so eye candy to me. I like this drama calm old vibe. If anyone here have doubts about watching this drama. I'm telling you to give it a try. It's not bad as others telling. Sometimes you can find drama is amazing. 💖💖😁

Too Much, Too Soon, and Probably Too Little, Too Late
Summary: At first, I loved this underdog dramedy featuring an unlucky guy and his misfit crew. It was so heartwarming and some of the loss hit home for me. The acting was great and it made me appreciate Lee Jun-ho more as he showed his character versatility vs. in King the Land in which he played a boring and predictable chaebol. I also love that the female lead was a normal size compared to the often unrealistic obsession with stick thin as the standard body type, represented in many other modern Asian dramas, which made her more relatable and believable (at least to me 😅).Later, I started to hate the show when I realized that NEARLY EVERY EPISODE involves some sort of MISFORTUNE to the main characters, to the utter point of exhaustion. I lost attachment to the storyline after the inventory destruction scene in Thailand and was just numbed out by Episode 12. Also, it was a bit strange how Kang Tae-poong outsmarted his way out of every difficulty he encountered (were his handsome looks his superpower?). It was too much heartbreak, too soon, but also lacked hooking me at the same time, especially by this late in the series. I never thought I would say this but the Netflix episode scheduling wall gave me a much needed emotional break from all that tragedy.
Eventually, that emotional break turned into a hiatus, and still wasn't enough. When I finally came back to the show at Episode 15 and saw another tragedy strike, I just couldn't... On top of that, the filmmakers had the nerve put a bunch of previous scenes into a sappy montage. Jinjihage??? I'm kind of afraid to finish the show now. Lol.
Other than those critiques, I found Typhoon Family a lovable comeback story. Would I rewatch this? Probably not. I like the uniqueness of the story, with a cinematic twist on the tragic South Korean economic downturn in history. But it's kind of depressing seeing how much hardship all the characters suffer over and over again, topping that WITH a bullying competitor breathing down their necks at every turn.
At least the soundtrack was good (love Gukkasten/Ha Hyun-woo) with period appropriate (late 90s/early 2000s) jams alongside modern ones. The advertisements weren't too blatant, with the modest plugs for Solarique juice, CepoLAB skincare, and Pepero chocolate sticks. 😂
Details: eh, too exhausted to write them...
Side Notes:
- Why were there subtitles for when they spoke Korean and Thai but not English?? I had such a hard time understanding those lines. Lol
- Pyo Hyeon-jun teasing Oh Mi-seon with "freckles" nickname was totally getting on my nerves but I really appreciated that they showed a FL with normal complexion that many women possess. Not all folks can have perfect porcelain skin like most Asian dramas like to portray. Hoping there's a trend in featuring all types of skin rather than the Hollywooded ones.
- Why would someone run with an open envelope? Why didn't Oh Mi-seon put the envelope in her bag like she did with all the other documents before? Also, the negatives proved nothing since it's harder to identify them then with actual photos...🤦🏻♀️
- Why would the construction worker in Thailand keep maneuvering his excavator crane into the taxi after he sees it blocking his path? AND why would they freak out when just some of the product was destroyed and there's like PILES of boxes right behind them?
- How does Pyo Hyeon-jun keep coming around at just the wrong (but also just the right) time to ruin Kang Tae-poong's company plans? Ugh...😮💨 Also, how did his dad survive being bashed in the head and locked up in the shed like that without any apparent sustenance provided nor a way to relieve himself? 😮

Y'all just so mean
why does everyone hate it?? y'all hate the show for what? I think it's pretty fricking good and honestly if you don't like a show why watch till the end? like please go do something with your life, go outside, make friends idk gang but nobody is forcing you to watch a show that you don't like..like yea don't get me wrong there are things I don't like about the show like the FL she annoys me and seems pretty selfish but that doesn't mean I don't like the plot, i'm just saying if you don't like something turn it off don't just waste your own time and watch eps that are an hour long each for some show that you say is oh so bad, like at first before I started I came to the reviews they were basically screaming don't watch it so I didn't I watched a whole bunch of other shows until I saw it again on TikTok I was like might as well turn it on.. at least the first ep and I enjoyed it.I get it everyone has their own opinions but you don't have to trash talk the actors or the storyline..JUST TURN IT OFF like smh your not being forced to sit down and watch it. that's on you for watching all 16 eps get over it and move on. like do y'all really just watch shows to say something bad about them? don't waste your time if you already didn't like it the moment it came on. please and thank you, y'all just making the people that might actually like it not even wanna turn it on, like I hate to say it but this review is a little directed towards at least 3 people.

This will go down as a classic
This drama will not appeal to everyone. It is beautifully crafted and is like a 7 course meal rather than a cheap rush of sugar. Those that prefer light and fluffy should choose something else. Typhoon Family is brilliantly cast and acted. The 90s setting and IMF backdrop is fresh… but that is not where I found the charms of this drama. It is the human stories, the beautiful and meaningful script, the switch from fun to deeply emotional. The acting and directing is masterfully subtle… done with facial expressions rather than screaming and ranting. It is fun, passionate, sad and uplifting all at once. It is all just so good. So so good. It is by far my best kdrama of the last 2 years so far. I am 2 episodes in and I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds,I am also aware that MDL is a toxic place where fans of competing dramas / actors come and give bad reviews even though they haven’t actually watched the drama. This happens to all of Lee Junho’s dramas it seems. My advice… watch at least 2 episodes for yourself. Even if you don’t think this is your genre, I promise you, you will be surprised.

Typhoon Family- hooked up on it!!!
I was looking for a series which had both serious plot and of course rom-com. Found this! Typhoon family-both the casts FL and ML both portrayed their roles to the best it could be. And seriously loving the chemistry between them already.Waiting for it to be aired quickly, I can't even wait for the 5th and 6th episode to drop.
Totally worth watching and totally hooked up on it.
I will give it a 10!
Loved every scene till now and, waiting for more!
Both the leads are cute together and this series tells you how to cope up with the worst situation.

Heart wrenching, crises driven drama...so far
up to Ep. 5 and it's alot of sad melodrama that tries it's best to make you cry at some point in every episode.I love the cast & it's done really well, BUT it is a VERY crises driven drama & by that I mean that there is a crises in every episode, which makes it heart wrenching, so not an easy watch.
I mean is the acting good ? yes, but is it enjoyable ? not sure- crying or watching the actors cry is not my fav kind of entertainment. You know there will be a happy ending, but so far it's alot more heartache than I find I need in my life
Picking it up every now & again because the cast is very charming & endearing & you can't help but be fond of them & cheer them on.
In Episode 7 the mood lightens significantly & gives me hope that it will not be such a heavy drama going forward.
But will I end up rating it higher by the end ?
(Note: am I the only one that sees the male lead as a perfect in a drama playing RAIN's younger brother!?)
