Average drama
It started off pretty good, but quickly lost its spark and dragged on far too long for a 16-episode run. The romance just came out of nowhere and there was zero chemistry, honestly. The second leads were way more interesting than the main couple. Overall… probably better to skip this one.Was this review helpful to you?

Strong '90s Visuals, Weak Plot
I recently finished it. The drama was good and just that. I gave it a 7.5 at most, mainly because the plot lacked depth. Some of episodes felt like a filler, you could have skipped a few episodes or fast-forwarded through some scenes and it wouldn't have made any difference. The serie was saved by its 90's visuals, the performances of most of the cast (except the FL), and some genuinely funny moments. One moment that felt random and isolated to me was when Ma-Jin made misogynistic comments toward Mi-Seon and Tae-Poong did nothing about it. It felt out of character for him. Why would he let Ma-Jin cross the line with her over and over again?
About ML and FL relationship:
I didn't feel any chemistry between the ML and the FL. Junho was incredible, his role reminded me a bit of PSJ in Itaewon Class. It was enjoyable to watch him go through all the situations and problems. However, Kim Minha was COMPLETELY annoying to me. She had the same facial expression for happiness, sadness, surprise, shyness so I couldn’t connect with her character or feel any empathy. It felt the same way when I watched her in 'Pachinko'. I don't dislike her, but maybe she's better suited for other type of roles.
16 episodes were bit too long, it should have been shorter.
P.d.: I’m from Argentina, so I’m very familiar with how terrible IMF involvement can be for a country and its society. The drama portrayed this really well, you can truly feel how hard life becomes for working-class people under such an economic crisis.

Super boring and repetitive
I started watching this for Junho and to be honest he's the only reason I finished it. It's not that the story was bad, it was just super repetitive. That made the show very predictable and kind of boring. Every time something went their way, it would crash and burn. The whole show was just that over and over, which just got annoying very quickly. The actors all did a great job. The chemistry between the two leads was okay. I've definitely seen better from Junho with other people. This just felt hard to get through honestly. Was this review helpful to you?
Overall I liked it bc of the acting.
I'll start by saying for this drama the scores didn't really matter. The most important thing for me is that I thought "Lee Juhno what an exceptional actor that you are!". Probably bc I've lost my father a year ago, I resonated a lot with the way he portrayed that feeling of missing your loved one. And both the leads created really lovely chemistry as a couple.
Anyway the drama itself lacks in its writing,bc I felt there were a lot of plot-holes and the "bad" guys at times gave off "villain caricatures" .
However I did end up enjoying the series bc the whole cast did really good at portraying such a difficult time for South Korea.
The music was also great.
There were multiple moments tears welled up in my eyes which is nice when you can "feel" a characters emotions reach you through the screen.
And even though I loved all the actors' performances, I will give a special mention to Kwon Hansol (the actress playing the younger sister). There was this moment I won't spoil here that made me go "wow she did so good at this scene" and had me replaying it just so that I see her again say her lines. 👏

Basically dont't give up, do everything you can and things will get good one day
Grew bored of it at some point but I like the story, the characters and the moral behind this story.Kang Tae-poong was really endearing even his goofy side was charming. Sometimes he was stubborn but he has a good heart so we can't hold it against him. I liked Mi-seon's character too, I found myself actually siding with her more than I thought at first.
Their romance was one of the biggest good point because with those dramas always trying to create a childhood connection between the leads, for once we had actual strangers falling in love with each other. It's refreshing and should be normalised in k-drama land.
The second couple was very cute, their storyline was really interesting.
The biggest flaw for me was the main antagonist and his son, I just found the purpose behind their actions very light and didn't like how they always went against Typhoon Family, it made the story redundant. Honestly they had nothing to take this much time screen.

Loud Emotions, Scattered Heart
This film feels like a storm that makes noise without always knowing where it’s headed.O Typhoon Family aims to explore grief, family dysfunction, and buried resentment through dark humor and chaos. The premise is promising. A fractured family forced together under extreme circumstances should spark insight and emotional reckoning. At times, it does.
However, the execution is uneven. The tonal shifts between satire and seriousness are abrupt, making it hard to fully connect with the emotional core. Characters are intentionally messy, but the lack of grounding makes their arcs feel more exhausting than enlightening. Instead of catharsis, the chaos often overwhelms the message.
There are moments of sharp commentary about obligation, money, and familial disappointment, yet they’re scattered rather than developed. The emotional payoff feels muted because the film spends more time amplifying dysfunction than resolving or meaningfully exploring it.
🌧️ 5/10 for ambition and moments of insight, held back by tonal imbalance and a storm that never quite finds its center.

Truly something special
I loved everything about this story, cause it hit home. It demonstrates the resilience and commitment Koreans had to rise above the IMF, people lost so many things back then but they still managed to survive through hope and optimism. It’s shows aspects of what loosing a breadwinner is like and the struggle of trying to fill shoes worn by legends. I personally wouldn’t rewatch because it made me cry by reliving my father’s death and the struggle that came with it but I truly loved everything about it. Junho once again showed his true skills and I congratulate him on all his achievements and successes because truly he deserves it. His hard work and dedication to Taepoong is remarkable. Minha’s performance was outstanding, she deserves more recognition and appreciation because she embodies her character so much it’s amazing to see. Overall I loved this drama. Was this review helpful to you?
Great drama
I probably watched close to 100 K dramas and this one is creative and the cast is awesome and it’s not the same story that you’ve seen a million times. It’s got both comedy and drama. Lee Junho has really impressed me with his versatility and ability to portray different characters. Prior to this I’d only seen him in King the land, but he can really act. This is my first time seeing Kim Min Ha and I’ve really enjoyed her character and her family as well. I hate it I’ve had to watch this week to week, but I have very much looked forward to the weekends to get to see it.Was this review helpful to you?

Typhoon What!!!!
Thyphoon it is but not Family for sure -- it is the first time I find Lee Jun Ho a bit tedious instead of sexy & endearing -- he has his standard sexy sensitive guy stuff down pat but it doesn't land well in this film -- Kim Min Ha I want to love her in this & she does play smart well but nothing is hitting the mark it seems The most I have enjoyed is the Kim Young Ok she's one of the best character actors & she can maintain any scene no matter what . Won't explain the story line because in truth it is so contrived I don't have the time to explain itWas this review helpful to you?
GOOD SHOW! GREAT ACTING
I’m always in wonder of what people are looking for, when reviewing shows and movies. Yes, some scripts are terrible, but great acting can still make it worthwhile. I did not find the Typhoon Family script to be bad, as I’ve read in some reviews. However, I wanted more of Sung Dong-il and Kim Hye-eun’s characters. I love them in everything! Stellar actors! Outstanding in Typhoon Family were various relationships and their inter-workings. I discovered Lee Jun-Ho (Tae-poong) in the show, “Rain & Shine”; knew nothing of his background-just thought the kid did a great job. “King the Land” made me research his other works, due to all the hoopla about the show. Interestingly, Jun-ho has mastered romancing, not only his ingenues, but the camera, which appears to love him. Kim Min-ha (Mi-seon) came to my attention in “Pachinko”. I was mesmerized by her work. She presented then, and now, as authentic, with soft strength and mature beauty. I enjoyed their on screen performances. The show provided opportunities for each character, in the role of employees at Typhoon Co., to showcase acting skills. Bak-ho and his son, Jin-sung, had a powerful interaction to their father/son relationship, in the end. It was great witnessing the revelations and growth in Nam-mo (Tae-poong’s best friend) and those connected to him. I loved the show and anxiously awaited each episode. Rewatchable for me. Hated when it ended. Was this review helpful to you?
Great characters
This was really great. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I loved the vibes of the 90s, the story and especially the characters. Kang Tae-poong is genuinely one of my favourite male characters I've ever watched in kdramas. He's flawed, but SO likeable. Lee Jun-ho did such a good job and I've liked him in the past in other roles, but I feel like this one is his best one yet. He's really such a good actor. Kim Min-ha was new to me, but really enjoyed her performance too and her character as well. I was rooting for these 2 characters so hard and I think the actors had great chemistry. I loved them separately and together! Super cute romance.I also really liked the supporting characters. Their families, the employees, their friends, they all added an extra layer to this world and it was so satisfying seeing them grow. You found yourself rooting for almost everyone. Even a misogynist lol. The villain was really pathetic though, that's the only character that I wasn't rooting for.
That being said, I did feel that it dragged at times and perhaps they could have tidied up the story a bit, but overall I had a great time watching this and felt sad when ended and I had to say goodbye to these lovable characters.
