Overall a lovely show

Lovely show and while I hadn't much expectations in the beginning, I found myself waiting for the episode to drop every day. The characters were very attaching, the story was engaging even if I have my grips.
Li Mama is the MVP of the show, I loved her so much.

REVIEW OF THE STORYLINES WITH SPOILERS !!!

- Shouhua & Du Yangxi : Well they started not bad, I had not many prejudices against Yangxi because I kinda understand why he was behaving like this. BUT at some point I got annoyed by him because I didn't like how he pushed her and made her suffer even if it was to protect her (I just hate this excuse).
I think their storyline could've been much more enjoyable if they could've been less dramatic, 10ep was maybe too much for their plot. But when the story wasn't focused on them I found them cute.

- Fuhui & Fan Lianghan : They didn't have a real storyline, they were much more like secondary characters than main lead and it's shame because I liked her personality. Honestly their couple was the least enjoyable and interesting out of all of the couples. I just couldn't get past the fact that he was cheating on her and they had the audacity to make her the crazy one.

- Kangning & Chai An : 2nd favourite couple, my darlings ♥️.
I loved them, loved their storyline even if they got me annoyed at some point. I also loved she broke up with him and defended her family, it was kinda beautiful to see her stand with her family instead of compromising and bending the knees to her in-laws. After the storyline ended, they kept making cute appearances, just regret that we didn't get to see their twins.

- Haode & Shen Huizhao : My fav couple, fav plot they are my EVERYTHING. They are the reason why the show went to mid to a good show.
The amnesia plot was done nicely, not too dragged and because of it their relationship made great progresses. Even after the amnesia faded, the investigations were still entertaining without taking too much place.
They even had a second (real) wedding ceremony. In short they were the BEST 🩷🩷🩷

- Leshan & Yang Xian : their plot was not well developed despite the potential.
I found Xian irredeemable at first because of all the bad things he did in the beginning even more when he kidnapped her to marry her. It was fun to see her beats some sense into him but I didn't see the romance, the love between them, because their plot was kinda rushed. Also I didn't like and understand how all the family ganged up against Xian to "make him a better person" when he had already changed at this point of the story

Anyway, I recommend this drama because it was really entertaining.

Sometimes I prioritise my feelings for a drama over my opinion about the quality of the plot

I really have my griefs against this drama and I even lost the track with the plot around ep 27/28 so normally I wouldn't give a high rating like this but honestly I can't rate it below 9 because I really had a great time most of the episodes.

Firstly the OST, costumes, visuals were great, they really put some efforts in it. Secondly, the acting was nice, Lu Yu Xiao did a great job (like always 🩷). Same for Hou Ming Hao I found his acting nice contrary to the critics I've seen, specially when he was supposed to be emotional.
I also felt the cast had a great chemistry overall : the comedy parts landed well, the interactions between the characters were good too.

The thing I like the most about this drama was of course the relationship between Ji Bozai and Ming Yi, but that's also the thing that annoyed me the most. I loved their bond, how they trusted each other, always defending the other : it felt like they're two minds in one body. I think they did a great job to show their hearts were sync.

However I'm not gonna lie, I felt the misunderstanding between them dragged too long : 26ep to resolve the misunderstanding about Ming Yi's identity was too much. I'm not questioning the reason why they both acted like they did because it felt valid. Nonetheless, it wasn't a great writing choice to prolong this situation because at the end you just get annoyed about the two of them even if you're fine with their justification in the first place.

This situation repeated and the 2nd time it was Ji Bozai who was hiding something. At this point I lost the track with the plot but I understood he wanted to sacrifice himself to save everyone. The reason is not that stupid but at this point of the story not many episodes are left, so they should've just pushed for a cooperation between our couple instead of break them apart.

This tendency to create a drama where it's not needed is common in dramas but hold no interesting purpose for the story so it might as well stop.

Apart from the repeated misunderstanding, Situ Ling's plot was not good. He replaced Mu Qibai who was doing a great job as the main antagonist but like always with those 2ML it's just painful to watch. Instead of using their relationship with the FL to overcome the difficulties, they always choose to entertain their own fantasy to the point of paving their own demise.

For Situ Ling, he has chosen to mix his inferiority complex (about not having spiritual veins) with his feelings for Ming Yi and came to conclusion he had to became strong for Ming Yi to like him. Of course that's not true but that was painful to watch, I even skipped some of his scenes because I was too annoyed. And it's a shame because at the first I didn't hate him, he was fun to watch but once his love became obsessive he was unbearable. Maybe one day we will be free from those crazy 2ML in c-drama land

The other supporting characters were underused, I would've love to see a real story between Tianji and Yan Xiao. It's kinda a shame but not a scandal since the MC's relationship was great.

Anyway, this drama is not perfect (like every drama) but it was great and I recommend it strongly because it's one of the best that came out this year.

The fictional story that comes into your life like a tsunami but every waves makes you love it more

Very very late review but I needed to come back to that drama because I think it's the one who suits my taste the most out of the many ones I've watched.
It was a perfect balance between enemies to lovers & arranged marriage, romance & politics and the comedic aspect was also great. The pace was perfect, I didn't feel bored at any episodes (and it's really important).
Last but the most important I want to praise the actors' performances because it made the drama even more good.

1. The Leads

- Wei Shao : I admit that I didn't like him at first not because the way he was treating Manman, it's an enemies to lovers so I couldn't expect less from him. I found that for a leader he was often blinded by his emotions and made hasty decisions, he was not what I call really smart 😭.
However after ep 6, he started to grew on me. Everyone around him had an agenda about him (his grandmother, his mother, his cousin even his wife...), he could get angry about that but he didn't held any kinda resentment and always tried to find a solution. I think that's the thing I liked the most about it him.
Of course I also loved how his romance with Manman was showcased, how he struggled between his feelings and his sense of loyalty toward his family and finally came across a solution to accept this situation.

- Qiao Manman : My girl 🩷, I think there weren't any moments she annoyed me, I love everything about her : her calm composition, her intelligence, wittiness, how she stand for herself. Also loved how even if she had a strong character she wasn't made of steel and obviously could be swayed (like when Wei Shao was putting an act in ep 6-7).
I think she was a good demonstration of a woman who can be strong without resorting to the cliché of the woman who can only be strong when she acts/fights like a man.

2. Side Characters

They blended well in this story. Some were annoying like the vilains but necessary to the plot I guess.
Wei Shao's little generals were my lights, they were so fun even if the end has broke my heart.

3. small small bad points

Some elements were lacking in the end firstly about Manman's cousin, they were close but grew apart so I wanted to see more about Manman's reaction about her cousin's death. Did she feel sorry, guilty because they couldn't reconcile before she died ? I don't know if I'm too curious but I think we should've seen it.
Secondly, I wanted also see a more strong reaction of Wei Shao about Wei Liang's death, I mean Wei Shao expressed that his generals were like his brothers so I wanted to see more.

Lastly I wanted to see more moments between our couple and their little daughter specially because he promised he would be here for their child birth, yes I'm really greedy 🥹🥹

Anyway it was just me ranting about my beloved drama and I can only recommend this drama because it was true a mind-blowing experience.

Victim should never be shamed but supported resolutely to build a better world and obtain justice

Such a powerful drama, it was hard sometimes but so necessary to understand a little bit better sexual assault victims. They should be protected not being victim a second time. Fiction shouldn't be only used to entertain people but also to raise awareness and made us question our role in the society and I think drama succeeded in this mission.

For the story in itself, it felt like Sibei's life was shaped by patriarchy all her life. She lived a tough life because her mother favoured her brother just because he was a boy. With the same beliefs, her family kept her from reporting this assault.

So It was beautiful and important to see her finally gather the courage to do it even if it was tough for her. Fortunately for her, Qin Nan supported her from the start. It's normal for him to do that but it was stirring for me to see him not questioning Sibei once, he just sided with her unwaveringly and that's how we should support those victims.

Their relationship got more complex toward the end, but I think it got more healthier : Qin Nan finally saw Sibei as his equal not someone he put in a pedestal or kinda worship.

Her relationship with her family leave me more perplex : her brother changed for sure and he's not my main concern for her parents I don't know, they hurt her so bad. But maybe like Sibei said at the end we shouldn't mix the good and the bad, we should just accept them separately and act accordingly.

My only issue with this drama is after the first trial it got to slow, it was kinda dragging : the idea of showing the aftermath of the trial was good however the execution was maybe not the best.

So in conclusion I strongly recommend this drama if you can bear to see tough scenes because it can be triggering.

Frustrating disappointment

The first 2 episode were good : the first was full romcom, the second made the characters more profound and more interesting, but of course it went downhill, like every drama nowadays.

It's actually frustrating because it feels like k-dramas don't want to grow with the audience hence those lamentable misunderstanding that drag for too long. I don't ask dramas to be the copy paste of the reality or have no tension/problems but having characters that acts more mature, more logically isn't that difficult.

Even worse those days, the writer only pile up different plot (ennemies to lovers, childhood connection, love triangle, amnesia, etc...) and call this a scenario even if it's not consistent. Sometimes I wonder how they could make some choices when it's obvious it doesn't made the story better but only made it lazy and annoying.

In this drama it's flagrant, because we had the opportunity to see a lovely couple between Ha-yeong and Seon-u that could've problems since he's a single father but still triumphed at the end. Instead we were served with a bland love triangle that made no sense whatsoever, super cringe and made character like Seon-u super dumb and irresponsible. Because why was he running in a dangerous zone to save his lover like he hasn't a kid that wait him back home and acted like he was some teenager ? That baffled me honestly.

Da-rim and Ji-hyeok were cute yes but also very frustrating. I agree at 100% with why Da-rim hide the truth. But because it was dragging so much, both became annoying even if we could understand them at first. I mean Ji-hyeok's super solution was to marry Ha-yeong against her will but why would he act like his father whom he hates so much ?
I won't even talk about this stupid break up that made no sense, sorry I found Da-rim so dumb to just follow the words of Ji-hyeok's sister without questioning them. I mean what's the point of being with someone if you can't communicate and overcome the obstacles together. If you can break up for such fickle reason and brand it as protection, you might as well not get together in the first place. Thank God there weren't many ep left so they couldn't drag this out but it was so frustrating.

Overall it's not a bad drama, the chemistry is there, there were some funny moments but I'm frustrated because I'm seeing a pattern with the recent k-dramas that doesn't please me. I think lazy writing should be call out otherwise dramas quality will only drop further.

Fair drama but fails to deliver truly morally grey characters

This drama is fair, I really liked the first half with how the tension was set, the political plot, the romances had real potential too.

But I was disappointed on the second half (I will say around what happened to the Shousa's Emperor) : amnesia plot was unnecessary, multiple sub-plot that held no purpose for the main plot, some characters weren't explored like they should've been.
The main issue with the 2nd half is that instead of fleshing out characters, make them confront the MCs and this have real consequence on how they see things around them, the writers just made the villains even more bad. For me it's just lazy writing with the purpose of always making the MCs more pitiful and make them win even if the one against them have a point. Because of that, the empathy you feel for the MCs grow thin and you just start feeling more empathy for their enemies.

I still think this drama is enjoyable enough to go through the end, acting and OST were top too, but is it the best I've seen this year ? I don't think so

More detailed thoughts about the drama (Made some modifications on 31/10, 21h29) ⤵️

-1st Half :

The setting of 2 enemies was good for 3 first episodes : they were really hating each other but everything fell apart too quickly, Feng Suige's character actually became too soft.

I loved the impression he was giving in first 3 ep : ruthless, cunning, not bending, ambitious. He really had an aura befitting of a prince but gradually he became soft and gentle, maybe I mischaracterised him but I would've loved to see him more ambitious. Not in the bad way, but I just found his wish to not become a Crown Prince/Emperor stupid and disappointing : I just felt he wanted to against his father's wish while he should've just considered the interest of his kingdom for this action to be good.

Concerning Fu Yixiao, I know they wanted to set up some tension but I found it very stupid of her to always draw knife on Suige's neck. But after some point she showed she was smart and it was cool to see that.

The romance was good without being the best I've seen, it was comforting to see them found someone to rely on but it'll be a lie to say I was moved to death by their relationship.

- 2nd Half : It was boring, fill of nonsense, some of them were acting out-of-character.

The story line with Xiyang, Xia Jingshi and Xia Jingyan was one of the biggest flaw for me. I can't accept the writers giving to Xia Jingyan a "redemption arc" where suddenly we should feel for me or whatever. And it makes even less sense when Xia Jingshi was here, he should've been the one the story focused on.

Besides it was really upsetting to see XJS stuck on his obsession for Yixiao when it's would've made so much sense to make him fall in love with the Princess to spark more complex feelings in him. His relationship with Xiyang was the main reason I decided to like him.
I don't know if it was the writers or the actor who messed up but XJS was clearly shown concerned about her and sometimes even caring. The bond with Yixiao was never really deepened, so it was reasonable to think they wanted to redeem him at some point and develop a relationship with Xiyang, but it never happened.

Even outside this relationship, I thought the writers wanted to make XJS a complex character torn between good and bad but they actually didn't manage to move him beyond a one dimensional personality revolving around Yixiao.
Instead, his character was too inconsistent : one time he's a very bad person, the next he's shown to be actually caring towards his people ; one time he's cunning and very calm, the next he's obsessed to the point of throwing away everything he worked for.
At some point, it felt they didn't know what to do with XJS, and it showed. This is my main disappointment about this drama and it's a shame because he had real potential to became one of my favourite character.

Princess Xiyang was also an another bad point. Why should she be depict as the victim in her story with XJS ? The only good thing he did in the whole story was to actually not toy with her feelings. He was very honest to her from the start and held this position till the end (much to my regret) but she has still chosen to follow him at any cost. So it was annoying to see her throw a tantrum when she made her own choice. Instead of whining about XJS being cruel and transforming her obsession in a misplaced hate, she should've reflected and grow.

The other biggest flaw for me is the constant victimisation of the MCs. It became just exhausting to watch betrayal after betrayal only directed at them. At some point I got frustrated : why are they the only one we should be sorry for ? We saw multiple characters (XJS, Murong Yao & his father....) who also suffered injustices, yet the moral that comes out of it "endure the pain and don't fight back unless you're the MC".
The point isn’t to justify the antagonists' actions, but to show how the narrative never uses the multiple conflicts to make the protagonists grow or reconsider their own sense of justice.

A striking example of that is Murong Yao's story : Murong Yao's revenge against Suige was surely misplaced but did we ever see Suige questioning his father's decision, or the reasons behind it ? Not once, he only cried about how he felt. But honestly, why should his feelings matter more than Murong Yao’s from the viewer’s point of view ?

They tried to create complex characters but they seem to have failed, at the end only the MC’s sense of morality is validated. Their moral compass is never challenged. They listen to other people’s stories, yet they never genuinely try to understand or question their own beliefs but isn't that the purpose of creating complex character? Otherwise, we’re just left with the same old good vs evil dynamic.

In conclusion, this drama is still watchable but it's upsetting because I don't think the plot was written at his full potential.

Drama with potential but execution is all

It started good and really interesting . I liked the leads relationship who fell in love slowly buy deeply, the plot with demons and demons slayers had potential and I was excited about the angst between the two of them considering their true identities. The outfit and cinematography were really striking.
The leads performance were good, they played the role the best way it could've been. Considering I had my bias against the male actor, this drama kinda changed my mind about him.

So considering all those elements I thought I watching a gem. But alas, it went downhill towards the middle, I thought it would get better after the leads get married but I was already disconnected from the drama.

My main issue was the fact that supporting characters took too much place in the plot, I'm not even talking about the SML he wasn't that infuriating actually. However Mei Si for example, I wondered in the middle of the story if I saw him more than the actual ML. Those little side stories weren't that boring, it just felt I was watching a drama within a drama and this disconnection from the main plot was annoying for me.

The disproportionate time screen between Wu Zhen and Mei Zhu Yu was an issue too : in the beginning it was normal to concentrate more on the FL to extend the lore and thicken the plot but at some point I wanted to see more about the ML and the lore of the demon slayer. They tried to do it but this attempt was not well executed imo.

Last issue was the pacing and it cost me to say it because I praised the pace at first but at some point it became too slow, they kept pushing the supporting characters in the screen instead of developing first the leads relationship. I won't lie, I kept moving forward and skipped scenes at some point toward the end.

The idea of this drama was a good one and I truly believe it but the execution is lacking in my humble opinion. The rushed end is the striking exemple that proves my opinion : good ideas, poor execution.

Beautiful depiction of a strong woman’s life

While I have some complaints about some interpretations of some characters personalities especially the King, I still loved this drama.
I think they did I a great job at portraying a strong woman who defended her vision of a better world and her principles till the end.
And while I was annoyed by it, at the end it’s quite remarkable of her to not resent the King even if he had wronged her many times. The end who also beautiful and emotional, with her son dancing for her one last time.

- Weak point of the story : the King’s concubines. Honestly even if they weren’t the main leads I hoped they would get a real storyline.

"And the people of Macau have only one belief : we will never bow our heads."

I don't know much of this part of history from China' side so I can't say if it's accurate or not, but it was really well crafted
This show wanted to showcase the courage and unity of the Chinese people during these troubled times and it was remarkably well done.
Despite the numerous arguments between different factions and no matter their backgrounds, everyone had a chance to contribute to safety of the nation.

I really liked the contrast between He Xian, and the main antagonist Colonel Sawa.

At first we can really feel Sawa's schemes are made in the interest of his country but the further we go the less he seems concerned by this goal. He was consumed by his arrogance and his obsession to win against He Xian without any regards for the reality. At the end of the show the Japanese couldn't afford to take control of Macao like he wanted at first but he still went overboard.

He was smart and read He Xian's every moves but always failed to catch up with him. The drama seems to want us to think it's because He Xian is pursuing righteousness hence the reason why he will always win no matter how hard the obstacles are. I like this moral, honestly it comes as little naive and maybe not grounded in reality (good people don't always win) but I want to think it's true.

There weren't many female characters but I think they served their purpose and were shown as having equal courage and patriotic fibre than their male peer. I specially love the scene where Qiwen made them realise women aren't to be treated as porcelain.

In conclusion, the acting was good, the scenario was well written with good tension and rhythm so this drama really worth to watch.

Grief is tough but is necessary to move on

“i’ll remember you. i’ll continue living. because to us, loving myself means loving you ». I’m just stuck with those words.

Small drama but funny, sad to the point it’s heartbreaking but at the end hope emerges. I’m glad Hee-wan overcame her pain and guilt and just a started to live her life without forgetting Ran-woo as he lives through her. Just sad he disappeared in the nature but I guess he fulfilled his mission so it’s time for him to leave her.

The lead’s performance were quite impressive (Big up to Kim Min-ha, hope to see her more)

Basically dont't give up, do everything you can and things will get good one day

Grew bored of it at some point but I like the story, the characters and the moral behind this story.

Kang Tae-poong was really endearing even his goofy side was charming. Sometimes he was stubborn but he has a good heart so we can't hold it against him. I liked Mi-seon's character too, I found myself actually siding with her more than I thought at first.
Their romance was one of the biggest good point because with those dramas always trying to create a childhood connection between the leads, for once we had actual strangers falling in love with each other. It's refreshing and should be normalised in k-drama land.
The second couple was very cute, their storyline was really interesting.

The biggest flaw for me was the main antagonist and his son, I just found the purpose behind their actions very light and didn't like how they always went against Typhoon Family, it made the story redundant. Honestly they had nothing to take this much time screen.

Beautiful relationship between characters, but plot need to be more consistent

Overall it was a good drama, I would recommend it because of the relationship between the characters, the comedic aspect and the cinematography that was great even if I disliked a few things.

Good points :
1. The acting was good and sometimes scenes perfect. The costumes were great, the OST too.

2. The characters : Honestly they are the reason why I can't rate this drama less than 8. They really grew on me, because I love found family plot. Their chemistry together was amazing truly that's why even now, as I'm writing this review, I feel so sad about the ending. Zhuo Yichen and Bai Jiu's relationship was something father/son and big/little brother and this was honestly my fav duo. Zhu Yan was so silly and hilarious. Wen Xiao, even if I didn't like her character individually, blended well in this family. Pei Shijing and Ying Lei (I won't forget you ever 🥹) were great too.

3. The silly little dance in the ending : It was wholesome to see them dancing every time at the of the ep, they seemed enjoy it as well. First time I didn't skip the end credits, so this idea should be reused in every drama.

Things I didn't like :
1. The drama was way too more melodramatic, I felt the writer really wanted to create emotional scenes but it was way too much. I was honestly excepting something with more action and less tearing scenes.

2. Wen Xiao : The actress did was she could with the role the writer gave to her so it's not her fault, but she wasn't that important in the story. I mean she wasn't impactful, she felt more like a side/background character. At first I just thought she only needed her power to comeback for her to be a great character but nope. The more the story progressed the more I was annoyed at her crying nonstop and doing nothing when she should be powerful. She was kind but that's all unfortunately.

3. The romance : No chemistry, No emotional connection. Their bickerings were fun though, but I couldn't care less about them to the point where I didn't mind if they were separated. I found myself getting more annoyed every time the drama tried to force a romance between them.

4. The pacing & overused plot : This drama is a one where you feel it would've been better with less episodes because the pacing would've been much more enjoyable. I found myself skipping or fast forward some scenes because it was TOO SLOW and that's something I usually hate to do.
I think the point that annoyed me more was the fake death trope ; We kill a villain and he comes back to hunt us a 2nd time. I don't like this plot and it's obviously related to the pacing and the number of episodes. At some point, the story was not moving forward, they kept having meaningless conversation and this is clearly dark point of this drama. Don't need to stretch the story, if you don't have the material for it. Less episodes but packed would be more impactful.

This drama will make you go through a heart break but it's worth it

Bittersweet is the only word that go through my mind when I think about this drama. So sad but so pure at the same time.
The plot could've been better that's true but the drama's a true masterpiece with the acting (Zhou Yiran and Wang Yinglu ate and left no crumbs), the OST, the cinematography. As I write this review I'm still blown up by this drama.

1. A'Tang & A'Xun

My babies, they lived such difficult lives across all the timelines but the fact that they found themselves and treated each other as the family they never had is so comforting, I think that's why ep 6 is my fav all the whole drama. Their love story is so subtle, so pure but so deep, I think it's one of the most beautiful romance I've ever seen. I'm even so emotional when I writing those words thinking about them. All of this makes ep 8 even more heartbreaking, to think fate is so cruel that it can separate two people so emotionally connected. But at last, they finally triumphed, win against fate and had their happy ending.

2. Yu Nian & Shen Cheng

I'm not gonna lie, they annoyed and stressed me on the first episodes because of their behaviour but I suppose they were acting like this out of love for their parents. They grew on me throughout the drama and honestly their ending makes the story so bittersweet. Although we didn't see much of Shen Cheng's childhood with Haitang, seeing Xun becoming Yu Nian's father, how their bond formed makes the ending so heartbreaking for her.
But I respect their decision to make their parents happy together for once in their life even if the result is sad.

3. small bad point

The plot was confusing sometimes I'm not gonna lie. I don't know if the writer wanted it to appear like that to let to the interpretation to the viewers or something like this. However I like it more when things are detailed don't let too much interpretation. How the mail box appeared ? How the old Xun understood there's something with the mail box ? I also thinks the multiple timelines should've been well more explained. But the theories I've read are fun, I'll pick the one I like the most and makes my heart less heartbroken .

Anyway it was great drama, tough, emotional because of what the characters goes through but it worth you're time, so I recommend it to everyone 🩷🥹.

Grateful that supporting characters exists

It wasn't bad actually, it's just that when you don't like the main characters, you can't really enjoy a drama.

- ML : pretty much dislike him, because he didn't fit with the setting. Everyone was smart, cunning, manipulative and we have the ML who is not matching with the vibe with his naive and selfless character. I just hated the way he was behaving the FL trusting her at 100%, he didn't get angry about her manipulating him even once ? And the other thing I LOATHED about him is that as the head of the clan he should've made it his priority but instead he preferred romancing with the enemy. At some point, I didn't even know why he wanted to pass the 3 trials honestly.
At the end he redeemed himself a little and I feel like he had a development in his character but for me it wasn't enough to erased my bad feeling about him;

- FL : not much to say about her, she felt blank like a side character and not a MC, I'm just indifferent to her, I didn't like her nor did I disliked her. Her fighting scenes were great though.
(Unpopular opinion but I prefer Yu Shuxin with a more bubbly character & with her high pitch voice than this type of character)

- SFL & SML : SHOW STEALER, I swear they were the only one reason I finished this drama. The chemistry, their tension, the bath scene ? I was just so OBSESSED with them, I want to see this couple as main character in an other drama.
Shangguan Qian was amazing but I feel like we didn't see her fight enough, would've loved a lengthier fight scene with Shangjue.
Shangjue was everything the Gong clan needed as a leader but I guess he wasn't that ambitious, I was a little disappointed but it was coherent with his personality.

Conclusion : it wasn't my tea but if we have a S2 I'll watch it since I'm curious about a lot of things (and I want to see the baby 🥹)

Advocating for a S2 ✊✊

I'm review this a little bit late, but what a drama it was incredible, everyone should watch it 😭😭. If you love Joy of Life, you will surely love it.

The plot was well written and well balanced between comedy and more heavy situations. The second half ( starting with ep24) was a bit slow to start but the end was emotional, heartbreaking and in a sense fulfilling with Qi'An decision. Also perfect between martial art, fantasy, political plot. Romance was the weak point but they were cute.

Things I loved :

- Xu Qi'An : Throughout the drama I kept surprising myself with the way I love him. In those type of series I tend to dislike the MC because I found them way too much prideful, arrogant and out the touch with their world in the end. But Ningyan, I just LOVED how he just accepted his place, knew exactly when to flaunt, when to be "submissive", not too naive but not too nonchalant either.
When he was acting "reckless" I was surprised to support him fully even if I knew the consequences, because in a certain way I knew it was exceptional and his standard attitude.

BIG SHOUT-OUT to Dylan Wang for this amazing performance, I know I wouldn't like Qi'An so much if it was played by another actor. He embodied this character perfectly with his expressions, playful tone, emotional reactions (specially in ep 39-40). It was my favourite performance of him knowing that Dongfang QingCang isn't easy to top.

- Princess Lin'An : Like her, but I struggled with her because I didn't think she had a great impact in the story, her relationship with Qi'An felt more like secondary plot. But I guess FL is always the weak point in male centric drama and it's kinda of sad actually that they still can't write a proper FL and not a side character.
The actress was great though with the "small" amount of time screen she had, specially when she came to implore justice for her cousin/BFF, it was sad to the point I got chills.

- Qi'An friends & family : they were the story's comedic relief, wished we could've seen more and more if this trio

- The Dafeng Guardians : funny how they kept arguing about who should take Qi'An. Feel like they can be still be more developed but I don't know how it will unfold, so I will indulgent.

What about next season ? : I didn't read the novel but it feels like we didn't explored 20% of the story. Many points have yet to be developed, and I'm very curious about it so S2 come quick ✊.
