Burnout Syndrome

ภาวะรักคนหมดไฟ ‧ Drama ‧ 2025 - 2026

I finished reading the novel a while back but with the show coming to an end I thought I'd share this for anyone who's curious about the ending and impatient about waiting.

It's already in the title but

!! SPOILERS AHEAD !!

(this is just a summary of the rest of the novel after episode 7, not an analysis.)

The series is adapted very closely to the novel, almost word for word, with a few minor changes to make the story flow easier on screen.

After Koh follows Jira into the club and ends up fainting, Jira does not take Koh back to the hotel, instead, Koh asks Jira to take him to his childhood home (this is shown in the preview of episode 8, but in the novel it happens the night of the club scene).

On the drive to Koh's home, it begins to rain. No one lives there and the house sits almost empty. Koh asks Jira to move in with him, Jira declines.

They go to Koh’s bedroom and discover his bed soaked from rain leaking through a damaged roof. Koh climbs onto the roof to cover it with a tarp despite Jira’s pleas to come down. Jira joins him, and together they secure the tarp, only for the rain to stop immediately after they finish.

They remain on the roof and talk. Jira asks Koh what he really feels for him and Koh tells him he likes him and explains that he did what he did because he was jealous of Pheem and Jira together.

They kiss. Once inside, they have sex on a pile of clothes.

After this, Jira and Koh begin dating. Jira stays at Koh's hotel room for a few days. They are in the throes of puppy love and have a lot of sex, all over the hotel room. (For a man who doesn’t sleep much, Koh sure does have a lot of energy for certain physical activities...)

When Jira finally returns to his apartment, he finds the painting of Pheem in the rage room that he'd left behind, and decides to end things with Pheem for good.

When they meet up. Jira gives Pheem his rage room painting and tells him that it's best that they remain only friends. Pheem figures it's because Jira has chosen to be with Koh. He then warns Jira about Koh's character, stating that Koh is a capitalist and that he will love Jira as long as he is useful to Koh.

After this, Jira goes back to Koh's hotel room and forgets about Pheem almost instantly. They are happy together and Jira stays with him for another week. Meanwhile Pheem is a wreck and heartbroken.

One day, Koh tells Jira that he has developed an AI software that studied Jira's artwork and is now able to generate and replicate it. Shocked and disheartened by this news, Jira realizes that he was just a tool for the developer and that Pheem was right. Koh has created an AI to replace Jira.

Jira quits on the spot and breaks up with Koh. He then goes to Pheem's apartment but Pheem doesn't want to see him. Mawin lets him in. Jira, in tears, explains to Pheem what Koh had created and asks Pheem to find a way to delete it. Pheem tries but is unsuccessful. He then apologizes to Jira and tells him that he wants to be his friend.

Koh is struggling without Jira. He can't sleep anymore. He goes to Jira's apartment and tells him that he can't live without him. Jira, furious, tells Koh to leave.

Koh begins sleeping in his car which he parks outside Jira's place. This goes on for a while.

Jira tells Ing what Koh has done. Ing then decides to open an art exhibition and tells Jira that she'll showcase his works. She gives him until the end of the year to work on new paintings.

That night, Pheem and Jira meet at Burnout Bar, and then Koh shows up and sees them together. He begins screaming at Pheem and Jira for sneaking off behind his back again. They leave the bar and Pheem and Koh begin physically fighting in the street in front of the bar. People come out to watch.

After the fight is done, Pheem leaves while Jira stays behind to help Koh. He begs for forgiveness and asks if Jira would consider taking him back. Jira says no and leaves.

Koh's insomnia worsens and the meds don't help. He begins sleeping outside Jira's apartment door on the hallway floor.

Jira is uninspired and doesn't know what to paint for Ing's exhibition. One night he finds Koh sleeping outside his door and paints him.

Months pass. Koh and Jira don't talk to each other but Koh continues to sleep outside his door. Pheem gets a new well-paying job. Mawin gets casted in an acting role. Koh sells the AI software.

The day of the art exhibition arrives. Pheem shows up to support Jira.

After the exhibition, Jira takes the painting of Koh sleeping on the floor to Koh himself. This is the first time they see each other after almost a year. Jira tells Koh that he is willing to sell the painting to him. Koh accepts and offers to pay a huge amount of money, more money than Jira has ever seen, on the condition that Koh will pay in weekly installments and Jira will have to pick up the checks himself, in person.

Jira, knowing that this will mean that Koh will stay a part of his life for a long time, accepts. Koh hugs Jira tightly, promising that he'll take care of him. And the novel ends.

Thank you for the spoiler. With one episode left, it’s the most realistic and logical ending!❤️🤌🏼❤️

So they don't get back tgt? or maybe I'm reading this wrong

They get back together. In the long run.❤️
