An Absolutely Wild Ride!

I went in with ZERO expectations after YouTube randomly recommended me the first episode, and let me tell you, the leads are both absolutely unhinged!

While I love the ML, the FL stole the show for me! This lady is no damsel in distress. If anything, she’s the one causing others’ distress half the time lol and is capable of saving herself and the ML too. They are logical to an extent and think like normal human beings, which I really appreciate.

FOR ONCE, we have an ML with a functioning brain, who does not welcome the supposed dead lover back with open arms and actually asks the FL for cooperation to check if this randomly resurrected chick is sus or not. Them acting like a couple in love absolutely cracked me up. From the looks of it, the ML probably enjoyed it a little too much and has no qualms choosing the FL over the random gege-ily-back-from-the-dead chick.

The ML and FL team up quite often to break open conspiracies, and it’s so nice to see the FL being the one with the loose screws. And the ML absolutely knows that, which makes their banter absolute GOLD! (especially when they’re offing people who offend them)

The chemistry is through the roof sans the usual violence in the name of affection. There's consent asked and given once they move past the murder-y phase. Not to mention, it’s an enemy-to-lovers done right where the ML was ready to off the FL in the beginning for supposedly causing his GF to die. But once he figures out something is fishy, he not only helps the FL find the truth about her cheating BF but also helps her punish her stepmom. All the while he’s still doubting her lmao

And they both don’t give two shits about the yappers around them. The nosey sister, the domineering grandmom, the slimy brother, the spoiled child princess, everyone is background noise for them to use at their convenience and dispose of as required.

But there's character development and I actually ended up feeling sorry for the 2FL. The whole diary thing was kinda random tho but okay. The SIL became FL's follower and the grandmom sorta just accepted the situation and gave up. Yay for that honestly!

I do have an issue with them letting people go rather than dealing with them, but they all do get what they deserve, and most of it happens in things seemingly unrelated to the leads, but totally within their purview, which makes for an interesting watch. Because they know how to borrow others’ blades to deal with others, and not directly get involved and tarnish their own reputation.

The ending 3-4 episodes were kinda weird tho. It was almost like the writers forgot they had a bunch of episodes left and ran out of ideas once the 2FL's identity was exposed. The push and pull didn't feel authentic since the ML was very much making heart-eyes at the FL but suddenly had an identity crises after the diary was discovered. Again, kinda weird, since it would've made sense for the ML to be confused about his feelings during the early episodes since he was supposed to love his kinda-dead GF but suddenly felt drawn to this girl who spoke and acted in a familiar manner. But once the FL had the epiphany that she liked this guy, she was very much committed to making them a thing. Gotta respect the hustle.

The swapped person plot was very reminiscent of the coroners diary and kinda felt being thrown in for shits and giggles to pass time. Maybe they were a 20 episode drama and had to extend last min. Never-the-less, the ending was decent so I'll let it pass.

Was quite worried the FL would probably sacrifice herself with all the assertions of loving herself the most (coupled with the ML's love of letting the antagonistic brother just go) but I'm very glad they proved me wrong. She really does have foresight and is well prepared for all the shit that might go down so props to her.

I’ve previously seen the FL and my god, she’s improved by leaps and bounds. Haven’t seen much of the ML’s work, but he’s definitely on my radar now.

All in all, it’s an amazing watch, especially for a mini-drama, and if you’re looking for something with minimal dog-blood plots with sensible leads who have more than one brain-cell between them and actually TALK to each other instead of making wild assumptions from thin air, you should definitely check this one out! Kinda surprised it hasn’t blown up much, but I guess limited availability could be a reason too. Hopefully, we get better subs in the future :/

Fast-Paced TRUE Enemies to Lovers

In a sea of boring visuals, and Enemies to Lovers tropes that fall flat; this show, while not perfect, is very striking and addicting.

Overview:
One of the shows positive qualities is that it takes each episode as a narrative and tailors it's run time towards the plot portion being told. If the obvious stopping point for a cliffhanger was to make the episode less than 9 minutes long, it was. Likewise, if the story needed more time to expand on the plot, the episode became longer.

What the show exceeds at is showcasing a captivation Enemies to Lovers trope in a "he's crazy but SHE'S crazier" style, providing a modern take on women's rights that, while still "shoved down your throat", manage to seem like they might "actually" happen in small conversations among families and confidants, and using over-the-top and bold cinematography to capture intense emotions.

Where the show lacks if honesty is to be blunt, is in the underlying conspiracy plot execution and character development of the main villian and the MLs family.

😅😅Weaknesses:😅😅

To address first the weaknesses:
The grandmother and SiL do a full 180 in the last few episodes. This is not explained and there is absolutely zero character hints prior to the episode the change occurs for the audience to follow along and believe the change when it occurs. Personally, when the change happened I thought the episode was going to end as a dream it was that sudden and unexpected.

The main villian was VERY one-dimensional. We have no back story to explain WHY they decide to take part in the conspiracy and they are let go and allowed to break free FAR too many times to be believable. There is "suspense your disbelief" and then there is "oh come on, REALLY, AGAIN!?!?" This is not to say that the interactions are not entertaining, but they are HIGHLY unbelievable and have the true air of a soap opera or cartoon weekly villian.

As for the conspiracy, if you blink you will miss the underlying intricacies that go in to the ML working on this case. In hindsight this makes sense as the conspiracy is tied to the plot of the death of his beloved, but most people don't watch these over-the-top soap opera type shows paying attention to EVERY word that gets said. What it comes down to, and some of this COULD be a translation issue despite the subtitles seeming to translate well enough, is that when the case is resolved with the Envoy and they had done their explanation I was personally still shaking my head in confusion about what that plot was about and what had happened to close it.

🎉🎉POSITIVES!🎉🎉

At it's CORE, this show is a romance. This is not always the case, despite many shows having the romance tag. For as much as it is a very over-the-top and dramatic depiction of two people falling in love, it is also a VERY real and complex depiction.

Our ML begins the story in a state of devastation and need of vengeance. He is crazy enough to break into the residence of a high ranking minister demanding the life of the one who killed his beloved (literally the first scene). He takes risks and is crazy enough to demand unconventional situations of the FL to achieve his goals.

Meanwhile, our FL is a two-sided coin. She is willing to put on the face of a proper lady one moment, and then tear it away the next to achieve her means of survival. She WILL survive through compromise, lies, trickery, seduction, or violence. Her battle cry is: "Between your life and mine, I'll ALWAYS choose mine".

With the show bringing them together due to her initial lie they begin to use eachother. The cinematography of their interactions together tell a tight story of reliance and distrust. They instantly play the opposite teams as a united front, hands clasped and smiles high; only for the camera to pan to them immediately dropping their hands or the FL glaring her eyes. One of the best showcases of their relationship is the red divider. Over the course of the show they have conversations around this piece of furniture, often with them on opposite sides. But this changes. The use of the divider in the last episode is honestly now one of my favorite scenes it was intricately done and the dialog was moving.

It was mentioned earlier about the very real and complex emotions of a relationship this show portrays. Without providing spoilers, the end of episode 20 could have very much been the end of the series and I personally would have accepted it as ending this way. When a person doesn't trust themselves to know WHAT love is, being able to provide seemingly empty platitudes and promises feels like a lie. If that person has previously thought they knew what love was but are now questioning themselves, it's even harder as they feel the need to make feelings fit into a box. In general, romance shows don't delve into this topic. The leads just KNOW instantly, it they deny "the truth" but know "secretly". But then, most romances feature pure and innocent characters who have never even thought of loving another person before so when they "FEEL" it, they know. Not everyone can recognize that they "feel" love. For that reason this is an excellent take on romance and love.

Additionally, there are other "hot-takes" in this series including a woman's reliance on being virgin to be "clean and worthy" and the dangers of childbirth and right for either partner to use contraception. The hypocrisy of a woman telling another that she is no more than a prostitute if she doesn't show proof of blood is thrown back with the harsh reality that "there's more than one reason for there to be no blood" and a harsh jab back at her new husband. While later, a discussion is had about waiting because of the risk of dystocia. While obvious for modern viewers, that they are presented in a way so as to still seem scandalous and unheard of was pleasant in opposition to recent "woman's rights" shows taking the "we can force modern values to be accepted to the entire population in a costume setting" approach.

CONCLUSION:

Ultimately, as long as you go in expecting a show that WILL have flaws but that has chemistry, pacing, and dramatic flare shots of an over-the-top makjang-type / soap opera, you'll have a LOT of fun eating your popcorn and clicking NEXT.

I watched as airing from first night watching the clock for the next episodes to drop on MangoTV.

Unhinged Olympics: Couple Edition

Alright, I pressed play on this one completely at random after seeing it casually dropped in a comment section, and wow… what a ride, omfg y’all.

For a black-red-flag dark romance, this one actually delivered. We’re talking very smart yet gloriously unhinged leads, the kind who make you sit there grinning like, “this is so toxic but also so delicious.” The chemistry? Off the charts. The pacing? Fast, punchy, and never dull. And did I mention unhinged leads?? Because both of them are basically a Lululemon clearance sale of sanity, with the FL outbidding herself like, “crazy? babe, we’re going into overdraft.”

The real joy, though, was watching my girl clap back at anyone dumb enough to cross her. Every time she served a tenfold return on shade—sometimes metaphorical, sometimes a literal bitch-slap—I was standing up like a proud parent at graduation. Pair that with surprisingly tender romance beats (the lovey dovey era was so enjoyable), and you’ve got yourself a dark little treat. Honestly, I’m not even shocked, because this FL has sparked chemistry in every project I’ve seen her in.

Now, this isn’t aiming for deep philosophy or layered symbolism—it knows exactly what it is and runs with it.
And that’s the beauty. If you’re craving a quick binge with an enemies-to-lovers dynamic, smart but spicy leads, chaos served in couture, and a happy ending to tie the bow—then this one is absolutely worth the watch.

This short drama drags. What a disappointment.

I thought I would binge this drama, but found myself pausing it more and more. Eventually I finished at 1.5x speed. Why? Well, I've been struggling to articulate exactly what's wrong with this one from the beginning.

And I think I have an answer: editing. I think the editing of this drama was terrible.

You know what this is--enemies to lovers, revenge, insane characters, romance, deceit. It does deliver these things, but in such a confusing jumble that it's hard to follow the story. I could follow the plot per se just fine, but never could tell how much the male lead knew. Although, at other times, I knew too much about what he knew. The editor shows him finding out right at the beginning that the FL wasn't the one he needed to revenge on, yet has him acting as though he completely doesn't know. There's no hint or wink to the audience that he's putting on a show. Editing and directing are linked, so I can only conclude the directing lacked competence as well. I don't know if they filmed different versions of scenes, and then edited them together in an incompetent way. Either way, you can't figure as a viewer if he's an unredeemable bastard, or if he's playing 11 dimensional chess. Later on, they try to draw out what the male lead is thinking, which is amazing, where was this at the beginning of the drama? He was a complete cipher!

The obsessed girl character is really boring and the drama took a nose dive after she showed up (2nd obsessed girl, not the 1st one, who died off screen, which is also a negative point against the drama). I think the music, sets, costumes were fine. The leads are very pretty and their acting is fine. The script is very uneven, with some good points and a lot of failures.

I'm not sure what pushed it into "this is a chore to watch," but I simply think it was the inability to find and stick to an emotional thread or throughline for this story. Who are these characters? Besides the most gross outline that we know from the first episode, we really haven't been given enough. And that concludes my review.

If you want to watch a (full length) drama with a similar premise, check out The Autumn Ballad. At the beginning of the drama, the ML despises the FL and they mutually use each other in what becomes an increasingly complicated plot having to do with court rivalries. As you watch the drama, you slowly fall in love with the FL, just as the first and second male lead do, because of her strong personality and will to live no matter how impossible the odds. We also gain a deep understanding of the ML and how he is playing a role for reasons that go into his past; while a piece of his personality that we see is genuine, his "scary" persona that he's created to pursue a singular goal is also the cause of his suffering. It basically does everything that Sinful Marriage does but so much more skillfully. It's like reading an engrossing novel, but as a drama. And one of the best things this drama does is that it has a FL with ambitions and she actually pursues them without compromising. Some viewers were actually mad that the ending wasn't an idol drama cliche after throwing lip service to feminism.

A distraction, and that's it.

First of all, I need to confess that I'm not a fan of short cdramas. I barely finished any of those I tried in the past. But this one caught my attention because I like how both leads weren't characters that were written with the sole intention to make them loved by the audience (at least in the first part of the drama).

Eps 1 - 13 : Very entertaining, creative direcring, cute chemisty, interesting grey areas from leads, good pacing, nice costumes, acting performances that were ok from the leads, not impressive at all but with potential from both (the rest of the cast was meh tbh), cheesy writing but a cheesiness that felt right LOL (if you get it, you simply get it. If you don't, then you don't).
The quality of the writing is not serious enough for me to even try to analyse it, I was there just to be entertained and clearly the writing wasn't trying to get my brain's attention, which is good since I had no intention to waste my braincells.
Let's say the storytelling was good enough to get my attention.

I have to add, that some scenes of v'olence were a bit too excessive imo, a bit triggering and of poor taste just too add cheap quick useless shock values ...

Eps 14 - 20 : Disastrous, absolute nonsense that didn't need to be seen. Ridiculous writing, boring and repetitive delivery from everyone.
The whole initial tone of the drama disapeared to leave us with a eww chessy (the wrong one this time) writing and fake candy taste of superficial romance that was way too obvious for me to pretend to not be bothered by it.

Eps 20 - 24 : ok, some cute scenes here and there, but frankly after ep13, the whole thing went mediocre.
The fl was lowkey trying to force the ml to do it with her in ep22, and tried to make him feel guilty for not engaging with her attempt to get phisicaly close, which was a psycho move we also didn't to have !!?? tf was that for?? Yikes.
And then she has to fake her death for the ml to kinda confess his feelings to her ... I was left speechless of how cringe the drama turned out to be, gosh the FATIGUE was real at this point.
The actual love mak'ng scene turned out to be the peak comedy I didn't see coming, was that scene supposed to be steamy??? HAHAHA.

The final of the drama was clearly just about how both were horny for each other .... yup, the writer had nothing else to write about... they added few others scenes just for the sake of not turning the drama into something else hmhm, ANYWAY.

I kinda felt some pity of the the 2nd ml at the end of the drama cause damn they really tried their best to make him look ridiculous, pure clownerie level.

Do I regret watching it? Nah it was entertaining until it wasn't. I can't get mad at a drama that isn't arrogant, or that never aimed to be more than it was aka a good distraction which it was.
Will I rewatch it? Absolutely not.

Mediocre prod that nails the enemies-to-lovers romance perfectly, actors are on fire

I love this mini so much, it's the gold in a sea of mud I was searching for. This is what I'm really hoping for when I see enemies to lovers and love/hate relationship in the tags. The leads are no saints, and they genuinely hate each other for half of the drama while having wild chemistry, a delicate balance to achieve that most dramas ruin by switching to cutesy romance too fast. This show is savage, the heroïne is a true nutcase and will do anything to escape doom (with no prior knowledge like a rebirthed one), the hero is (for once) on her level, and the sparks, oh my, they fly. It's even crazier this works so well when you consider that the drama is a broken production with some truly mediocre camera work and special effects (I swear the director is addicted to these aweful fake thunderstorm lights), confusing subs (they feel machine made and barely corrected) and a weird third act that has a character rising from the deads. So, it's a testament to the show's great sense of rythm (zero dull moment), cleverness in using tropes and the cast's acting that it is so addicting and good. The end is an absolute delight, it pays off the slow-burn wonderfully. It's not the steamiest mini ever but the romance felt so real, it made every move feel raw and sizzling hot.

A very surprising drama!

This was a genuinely entertaining drama from start to finish, and one that consistently exceeded my expectations. What impressed me most was its ability to keep surprising me throughout all 24 episodes. Just when I thought I had a clear sense of where the story was headed, the plot would introduce a new twist or character development that refreshed the narrative and kept it engaging. The pacing was especially well handled for a shorter drama, with very few dull moments or unnecessary filler.

One of the strongest aspects of this drama is its portrayal of intelligent, capable female leads. The women were not only strong in title but also written as genuinely smart, strategic, and competent characters who actively drove the story forward. Their decisions mattered, and they were allowed to succeed (and fail) in believable ways without being overshadowed. This made their arcs satisfying to watch and added real depth to the overall story.

The male lead was equally strong and well-developed. Rather than dominating the narrative, he complemented the female leads effectively. When the characters worked together as a team, that was when the drama truly shined. Their collaboration felt balanced and earned, highlighting mutual respect, trust, and shared intelligence rather than relying on clichés.

From a production standpoint, the drama was very well made, especially considering its shorter format. The costumes were beautiful and thoughtfully designed, enhancing the visual appeal and atmosphere of each scene. The OST was decent and fit the tone of the drama well without being distracting.

Overall, this drama delivered solid storytelling, strong performances, and high production quality. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an engaging, well-rounded series that knows how to use its time effectively.

Why aren't we talking about this drama??

What did I just binge watch? How utterly obnoxious that there is a director and a script writer out there who know how to produce an enemies to lovers drama?? In the pit of dramas where the main leads supposedly hate each other, this drama DELIVERS. They truly hate each other! I mean, not just for clickbait! They constantly scheme, barely killing each other just to achieve ther goals! The FL is gorgeous and such a delight to watch her act! No damsel in distress, no crying behind closed doors,no doomed love! The ML is amazing and his chemistry with the FL is top notch! He falls first, but she falls...not harder, but more freely. I loved that she constantly chooses herself even when she falls in love. I was literally sending thanks to Heaven when the hero TOOK his FUCKING time to process his feelings and what love is! And she didn't just give up, she was there showing him that it's ok, she likes him and let's just see where that takes them. And yes, he was remorseful for his past behaviour, he agonises over how can such behaviour breed love. The FL talks about sisterhood and female emancipation, about marriage loyalty and they even bring up the matter of pregnancy and death risks at the end!!Have I stressed enough how A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y amazing this drama is?And their love scenes!! So natural, so sensual, so real, so close up!!! I was curling my toes!!! I loved everything:The silly plot holes, the rather abrupt action scenes, the short emotional parts (bc time is precious in short dramas and they're not really dead most of the time), the story, the visuals, the kinky aspect, the unhinged dialogues, the mediocre secondary characters, the realism of it all and the improbability, too! Watch it, just watch it! I devoured it, no ff, in one evening. Non stop!

Direction and FL great, everything else just OK

This stared off as an addictive, pretty, bingeworthy drama, but by the middle of the story you can feel that the actors just don't have that chemistry with eachother that makes some romances so special. Even so, that's not anything to totally bag a show for, because you can't expect actors to just keep temporarily falling in love with eachother over and over their whole career for the sake of their dramas. Chemistry is something you can't fake, and two people can't be blamed for not clicking with eachother sometimes. These two both made the best of it anyways, and so it was passable sort of.

The plotline starts out promising and engages the viewer, even if it is fairly cliche. The FL's character is written very well, in that she does things the viewer would want to do, like if someone tries to slap her she stops them and slaps them back, and she gives people a piece of her mind, she takes her revenge when she feels wronged, etc. But then the auxiliary characters start coming in and taking more screentime as the story unfolds, and they are not great performances. At the same time, the sparseness of the settings, props and clothes start to become more prominent. The director and the stylists did a good job of making every penny of the budget count, but combined with the cheapness of the side-character performances it starts to drag down the show a little bit. This also is something I could look past if the other elements of the drama are there.

But then you take this somemwhat flat chemistry and somewhat flat acting and somewhat flat backdrop, and somewhat tired plot devices, and combine it with a sky-high cringe factor from the last 4 episodes being just a giant sermonizing session about progressive feminism and ccp atheism, punctuated by strange injections of 'humor' that are more disturbing than funny, combined with aughhh these awful awful intimate scenes that the main couple don't have the chemistry to justify -- and they are complete with smacking kissing sound effects placed in post-production dubbing that sound asmr gross, and I had to MAKE myself finish this one. So much cringe packed into such a short amount of screentime, wow.

The good parts about this are the direction, which is pretty good all things considered,. and the FL WHO IS AWESOME!!! I love her so much, and she did such a good job in this drama, she was really fun to watch.

So I'd recc this to progressive feminists, and people who want to follow Fang Jin's career. But although it was somewhat decent, I'd never rewatch this.

Deserves to be rated high

Read the comments. There are a lot of us who enjoyed this drama. Although not perfect because it’s a low budget short-form drama, the cast and crew did the best they can to deliver a great series. it will hook you and binge the whole series once you started it. The FL character is a breathe of fresh air. The story is not new, but the delivery of the same premise is better than the long form dramas. Misunderstandings are easily sorted out. All in all, if you are in a drama slump, and cannot finish a series, then this drama is for you.

I love how unhinged these mini-mini cdramas are!

Enjoyment level-wise, this is an 8.5 but objectively, it's a generous 7. This show is super short and so so so much fun to watch! It's incredibly feral with a female lead who not only doesn't take any nonsense, she actively returns the negative energy you give her, tenfold. You spit at her? She's gonna poop in your pie! lol! I love how unabashedly heartless she is when it comes to saving her skin and harming her enemies. And she has good reason for it, too. People are out to get her! They're trying to kill her and she fights back tooth and nail. That's so refreshing. Usually, in cdramas, female leads take every abuse with grace and a tragic sense of justice but here, the female lead is not about that! She will smear herself if it guarantees hurting her enemies. Armed with fourth-wall-breaking knowledge of third-wave feminism and an intuition that would put Odysseus to shame, she fights the patriarchy and her in-laws to the bitter end if she has to. I don't know if you can tell, I just watched this show because the female lead was like a feral fox with unhinged revenge schemes and I loved every time she screwed her husband over. Like this man was a bloodthirsty, cruel, and privileged marquess with the power and means to squish her like an ant and she gave him a whole cardio workout, trying to chase her and take her out! Lol! It was delightful to watch.
Did it make sense? No! Was it very clever? Not really. Lots of ret-cons. Is it well-produced? No, you can tell everything is fake! It's mostly like kids playing pretend. Did all of its shortcomings impact my enjoyment? Not at all! Lol
This is not a drama you watch for quality film-making excellence or its deeply philosophical narrative. This is a show you watch because sometimes you're on your period and watching a drama is the better option than killing someone out of frustration. It's also just very vindicating to watch a historical character act like a logical person of the modern era, every step of the way.
We also don't acknowledge the last 4 episodes because lame fan service should never be acknowledged!
I HIGHLY recommend watching this. It's just fun! Like having gummy bears at 2 am!

Nothing interesting :(

:)
_______ DISLIKE ABOUT THIS SERIES ______
• For me, the FL role lacks realism. I believe they should depict a typical girl who is weak and then becomes a strong girl for herself after learning everything and deciding to prove :) she is not a criminal. I believe we watch her character grow, ✨but she is already a strong girl, so I never feel anything. It's more fascinating to watch a weak girl grow into a strong one than a strong girl standing up for herself. She is strong, and I never feel sad for her because I know she can manage it. Sorry ❤️
• I'm Sorry, but there are moments when this feminist discourse and idea irritates me. The idea of current civilisation in historical series never makes sense, in my opinion. What is this..????? A man takes contraceptives to prevent his wife from getting pregnant because she might die...... !!!!!!! Is it necessary to add???
•The writer/production should understand what people's mindsets were at that time period. How to depict a strong woman? We watch shows to be entertained, not to hear your lecture. Korean series fare significantly better. The ML and FL characters are well-designed; they both do their tasks well and appear balanced. They provide justice for both roles, which never feel unfair. ❤️😊
