This is the best short drama I’ve seen!
My personal opinion: So well done, esp compared to most other short series I’ve seen. I absolutely loved the pacing. It didn’t feel rushed to me nor super slow. There weren’t loose ends all over the place. The acting, filming, editing, just all of it was really well done. Won’t say more cause I don’t want to spoil anything, but I totally recommend this series. Was this review helpful to you?

The Maid Cleans House – One Enemy at a Time
By now I know one thing for sure: if Deng Kai is in a mini drama, it’s going to be a ride — and The Maid didn’t disappoint. This is a revenge story at its core, nothing groundbreaking, but the execution is what makes it worth watching. The FL doesn’t just lash out; she orchestrates her revenge in smart, indirect ways, and watching her eliminate her enemies one by one is deeply satisfying.
What really surprised me here was the romantic chemistry. Deng Kai is usually great at intensity but doesn’t often spark that kind of romantic vibe with his co-stars. This time, though, it worked. Their relationship felt mature, understanding, and believable — a refreshing balance to all the revenge drama swirling around them.
Visually, the costumes are stunning, especially for the FL. The color choices flatter her perfectly, and she carries herself with elegance and grace. I haven’t seen much of this actress before, but her performance was pretty good. As for Deng Kai — classic him: looks like he’d kill you, but underneath he’s a spicy cinnamon roll who’ll still take you down if needed.
The drama starts off a bit brutal, but tbh I've seen worse, and once the FL has nothing left to lose, that’s when the fun really begins. Sure, there are flaws and the usual mini-drama pacing quirks — but it still delivers. And with a proper happy ending (which I honestly didn’t expect), this drama is definitely worth your time.
Verdict: A stylish, entertaining revenge tale with rare romantic chemistry from Deng Kai and a satisfying payoff.
It’s not here to make you ponder the universe — just to entertain you for a few hours, and it does that well.

Does Stunning Cinematography Excuse Weak Story Development
What this drama showcases best is a stone-cold FL willing to use anything and anyone to her advantage in order to achieve her revenge for the past. What this drama does poorly is provide a ML with any defining characteristics or a romance that makes you feel invested.
Rather than a strict romance it is a revenge melodrama where every detail is only surface level and you're left to try and piece together a coherent plot behind the pretty cinematography. Things as simple as how the baby was explained to the ML are left unanswered. Details about the 2FL and her Eunuch are swept aside and only explained in the very last episodes. At no time did it ever feel like the ML and FL were a true "couple", even to the very end; rather there was a feeling of "they are attracted to each other and using each other".
By the end, all the build-ups fall flat and had me rolling my eyes. The 2FLs end scenes felt random and used to try and prove that she too was a victim; yet none of it excused how she treated either the FL or her cousin.
For me this was a one time only watch and I'm not even interested in revisiting it through rewatching clips in the future. Falls victim to "if you've seen one revenge show you've seen them all."

Solid revenge story, rest is lacking
This soapylicious revenge drama has some crazy imagery, like Yu Qig being ravaged while her family is feasting (pretty good metaphor about the whole toxic family profiting off of her body), giant bird cages, worm infested flowers...it's the kind of revenge drama that is running on vibes and style (the costumes are striking), and does it well. It's not without faults, the writing is okay-ish, sometimes bonkers and not always in a fun way (the whole dad revenge arc was too over the top with all his crimes, and everything about the kid made zero sense to me), the romance is enjoyable but just so-so, the beginning makes you believe that there will be more angst but no, she becomes his favored concubine and hidden weapon very fast and nothing really gets between them beside her secrets. I didn't care much about the tragic romance of the legitimate sister, I guess they were trying to say something about trauma bonding but it was clumsy. I love Deng Kai but I think he was a bit underused here. So overall it's a good revenge story with an explosive start (and first few arcs), but the rest doesn't really lives up to it.Was this review helpful to you?
Most Satisfying Revenge I've Ever Seen.
This is one of the best dramas of the year because the FL's revenge is very very thorough something most dramas fail at. Her revenge is strategic and focused and very lethal. No foe left unscathed. Deng Kai as Pei Ji is delicious eye candy I hope to see him more often as a ML. The romance could have been better but the revenge in this was so so satisfying. Was this review helpful to you?

A little boring
By reading the synopsis of the drama Maid, one might expect it to be an interesting story. However, it wasn’t. The drama starts with a girl who is trapped inside a cage. She is confined by her stepsister, the legitimate daughter. The stepsister wants her to sleep with her husband, who is a prince. The stepsister doesn’t love her husband; she loves someone else. The female protagonist, the girl in the cage, complies because she has been threatened that if she doesn’t do as asked, her mother’s life will be at stake. After giving birth, the stepsister, the prince’s wife, tries to kill both her and her mother. Her mother dies, but she manages to escape and vows to take revenge.
The story began on a promising note, but it quickly became messy. The middle part was boring, there was hardly any intense chemistry between the leads, and the ending was unjustified—even though it was a happy ending and concluded as mentioned in the synopsis.
Despite these flaws, I liked the acting of all the characters, especially the cruel stepsister.

Maid to Destroy Not to Clean ?
The Maid is what happens when revenge gets dressed up, puts on lipstick, and decides to ruin everyone’s life politely.Let’s not pretend this is some deep philosophical masterpiece. It’s a full blown revenge buffet. Cold, calculated, slightly unhinged, and honestly… very entertaining. The female lead is not here to cry in corners. She is here to plan, manipulate, and clean house one enemy at a time. Girl did not come to play. She came with a list.
Now the story. It starts strong. Dark, brutal, messy. You think you’re about to get something heavy and emotional. Then it shifts into strategy mode. Schemes on top of schemes. Some smart, some questionable, some straight up “just go with it.” You will need to switch off logic occasionally and just enjoy the ride. If you overthink it, you’ll stress yourself for nothing.
The female lead carries this drama. Hard. She is clever, ruthless, and sometimes so reckless you’ll want to shake her and say “sis, breathe.” But that’s also what makes her fun to watch. She doesn’t sit and wait. She moves. And when she moves, people fall.
The male lead… hmm. Let’s be honest. He is mostly there to look good, save her at the last minute, and silently suffer. Not much depth, but he does his job. And yes, he is easy on the eyes, so we forgive him a little. Chemistry is there, but don’t expect a full romance meal. More like snacks. Small bites. You’ll survive.
Visually, this drama is doing the most in a good way. Costumes, colors, styling. Everyone looks like they stepped out of a dramatic painting. Even when the plot is wobbling, the visuals are holding things together like glue.
Now the truth. The writing is not always tight. Some things don’t get explained properly. Some arcs feel rushed or randomly wrapped up at the end like “okay time’s up.” The short format is both a blessing and a curse. It keeps things moving but also skips depth where it matters.
The ending. Not terrible. Not mind blowing either. It works, but you can feel they rushed to close the door.
So what is this drama really. It’s not perfect. It’s not groundbreaking. But it is addictive. You start one episode and suddenly it’s midnight and you’re still there watching her ruin lives with a straight face.
If you want strong female energy, revenge that actually delivers, and a drama that doesn’t waste time, this is worth it. Just don’t come looking for logic, deep romance, or emotional healing. Come for chaos, beauty, and a woman who understood the assignment.
Verdict. Messy, stylish, satisfying. One time binge, no regrets.

This Revenge mini drama is WORTH your time
This was my first Zhao Xi Xi drama and I LOVE it!! I stumbled upon this drama, on a Saturday night after doing some studying, and I was looking for a drama to make me feel like I enjoyed part of my weekend. The storyline is on point, and the actors delivered, and that includes the child actor as well. Zhao Xi Xi was great, she portrayed the character's emotions well, and I got hooked. I was planning to watch 5 episodes then call it a night, but fast forward to 12 episodes later and at 2 a.m in the morning, I was very much still captivated. I finished the drama ASAP the next day!!! In summary, this drama is worth your time. Was this review helpful to you?
spoiler alert ‼️
this was an amazing show! it was chilling and suspenseful! a good romance with a great ending! why I couldn’t give it a straight 10 on this is because during the battle after all was said and done, they drug out the tragic ending like nobodies business! I honestly thought they were gonna die on that hill and then he stabs himself with…. a hairpin!?! like come on? what was that for anyway? In the end tho it worked out perfect and it was all worth it but that one long, scene drove me crazy! 🤪 The scheming was perfect, had me yelling at the screen, like “you tell em sister!” Worth a 8.5 lol! had to knock it down a little for the end annoyance there lol!Was this review helpful to you?
The storyline is strong, the characters are layered
The title of this short drama doesn’t really prepare you for what you’re about to watch. From beginning to end, it’s gripping—every scene pulls you in, and every actor plays their role in a way that makes the story feel raw and real. The male lead is ruthless—cold, calculating, and willing to do whatever it takes to survive in a world built on power and betrayal. But beneath that hardened exterior, there are cracks… especially when it comes to his son. That’s where you see the man behind the mask.
The female lead is driven by revenge. She believes her mother was killed, and at one point, she thinks she’s lost her child as well. Her past is tragic—her mother was a mistreated mistress in the general’s household, forced to live like a servant, and the female lead grew up under that same cruelty.
The general and his household are no better. His first wife is just as vicious, and their daughter proves just as manipulative—using the female lead as a substitute on the eve of her wedding so the prince regent wouldn’t discover her own scandal. That one decision sets everything in motion.
The female lead ends up with the prince regent and becomes pregnant with his child—something he doesn’t know for a long time.
As the story unfolds, the male lead begins to recover fragments of his memory and starts to question everything, including the woman he married. From that point on, his behavior changes—he treats her with care in public, but keeps his distance in private, creating a tension that quietly builds between them.
Meanwhile, the female lead moves forward with her revenge. One by one, she brings down those who destroyed her life—her father, stepmother, sister, and cousin. Each downfall is deliberate, calculated… and earned.
But her path doesn’t stop there.
She also becomes an ally to the prince regent, helping him carry out his own revenge—especially against the emperor’s mother, the true power behind the throne, who had his mother killed and cast aside in the cold palace.
In the end, the male lead makes one final move—he fakes his death. Before disappearing, he acknowledges the truth: that the female lead is the real force behind bringing justice to the empire, exposing the corruption of both the emperor’s mother and the powerful generals.
The ending is quietly satisfying.
The female lead leaves it all behind, moving to a border town with her son. There, she finds peace—and the prince regent, now living a simple life as a teacher. Together, they build something far removed from the chaos they once survived.
Overall, this drama is beautifully put together. The storyline is strong, the characters are layered, and the direction captures each moment with clarity and purpose. Nothing feels wasted—and that’s what makes it so easy to stay hooked until the very end.

Great story with weak ending
I enjoyed the majority of this drama. It was bite sized, had great actors and the story was mostly enjoyable. If you want to watch a couple manipulate each other, watch the FL to suffer and an overall toxic situation, you are in for a treat.
However, the ending felt a little rushed and as much as I like happy endings, this seemed a little weak.
(Heavy spoilers ahead)
Having our SFL kill her lover who has suffered any humiliation for her and was just lovable, felt a little over the top. I understand she just kinda broke, but it seemed quite unnecessary.
Also Pei Ji forcing our FL to stab him, even if it was to have her pardoned from treason, was a bit too dramatic. Him surviving that as well bothered me. I think either him not forcing her, him taking his own life (even faking it) or him actually dying would've likely been more impactful.
That's my only real issue to be honest.
I still recommend watching this drama.
