Wahou wahoo wahoo just wahoo
Perfect Crown wasn’t just a drama to me — it felt like a modern-day fairy tale that completely swept me away. From the very first episode to the finale today, every single moment felt magical. This show became part of my routine, part of my happiness. I rushed home every week just to experience another episode, another heartbeat, another unforgettable scene. The acting? Absolutely stellar. Every actor poured so much emotion, depth, and sincerity into their roles that it never once felt like fiction. They didn’t just play characters — they made us live and breathe alongside them. The chemistry, the expressions, the quiet moments, the heartbreak, the love… everything was beyond on point.
Perfect Crown made me laugh, ache, dream, and fall in love in a way very few stories ever have. The writing was beautiful, the cinematography felt enchanting, and every episode carried this warmth and emotion that stayed with me long after the credits rolled.
Some shows entertain you for a while. But Perfect Crown became an experience I’ll carry with me forever. It reminded me why stories matter and why Korean dramas have such a special kind of magic. Truly one of the best things that’s happened to me this year.
Thank you, Perfect Crown, for giving us a love story and a world so beautiful that saying goodbye feels impossible.

A feel-good drama that could have been longer.
That ending was PERFECTTTTTho I do wish we had more episodes, and they addressed the many questions we have... and I was not too happy with the father-daughter reconciliation part... Still. It was a good ending 🥹🫶
The cast did a really good job portraying the characters, and this is the first time in a long time that I've not skipped any scenes while watching a kdrama.
The villains' arcs did not seem very well developed, and their respective endings were quite abrupt. That's probably my only complaint 🥲
Highly recommend!!

Pure enjoyment
Enjoyed too much to nitpick. Favorite IU role. BSJ is A dream king. Assistants were wonderful. Packed ensemble cast. I was confused when I saw the aggregate score and glanced at some of the other ratings. This is soooo good. Premise is interesting. Biggest difficulty was the 2/week release and Hulu with commercials. Still - Best Korean drama 2026 for me.Was this review helpful to you?

Perfect Crown — Beautifully Made, Politically Intriguing, and Driven by Strong Romantic Tension
Perfect Crown (also known as Wife of a 21st Century Prince) is one of those K‑dramas that reminds you why the form endures. It is beautifully made, with elegant production values, confident direction, and acting that consistently lands. There’s a light thriller‑mystery thread running through the story, never overwhelming the narrative, but giving it a steady hum of tension. At the centre of it all is the romantic pairing of IU as Seong Hee‑ju and Byeon Woo‑seok as Grand Prince Yi‑an. IU is fabulous — poised, emotionally precise, and quietly magnetic — and she gives the drama much of its heart. Byeon Woo‑seok is pretty good too, especially in the way he plays Yi‑an’s restraint and vulnerability. Together, they generate strong romantic tension that acts as a counterbalance to the political manoeuvring and the mystery elements, giving the series a warmth and human pulse even when the plot shifts direction.
The political world‑building is surprisingly textured. Although the drama describes its setting as a constitutional monarchy, the system functions more like a semi‑constitutional structure: the Crown holds real executive power but is supported — and sometimes challenged — by an elected cabinet. It’s an intriguing setup, and the show is at its best when exploring how tradition, legitimacy, and modern governance collide.
The Queen Mother provides much of the open hostility in the palace storyline, and the drama plays cleverly with our uncertainty: at times we’re not sure whether she is a villain, a political realist, or a reluctant supporter of the Grand Prince. What is clear is her love for her young son, the King, though strict at times, a performance that adds emotional grounding to the palace scenes. Her shifting loyalties give the political arc a welcome unpredictability.
The young King and the love for his uncle is a very nice, and welcome, touch.
Prime Minister Min, friend to both our leads, was a bit of a flop for me. The writing of his character needed to be sharper, more layered, and more consistent with the tone of the show. Even so, he has great presence — the kind of actor who can fill a scene even when the script doesn’t quite know what to do with him.
Where the drama falters is in its final episode. It suffers from a recognisably Korean ending: a sudden shift in focus, a rush to resolve big thematic questions, and a pivot toward political system reform that ultimately undermines the story the series had been carefully building. The 12‑episode length simply wasn’t enough. You can feel the compression everywhere — character arcs that needed space, political ideas that deserved deeper exploration, and a mystery that could have unfolded with more elegance if given time.
One performance deserves special mention: Lee Sung‑min as Lord Seo. My hat goes off to him — a standout performance. He brings gravitas, intelligence, and a quiet authority to every scene. He has become a dab hand at playing morally ambiguous or outright dangerous figures (Alchemy of Souls, anyone), and here he elevates the palace storyline with ease.

A lovely finale
I was going to watch this drama only when it had completed airing or during the week of the release of ep 11–12. However, I was tempted to watch it out of curiosity as it kept appearing in my reels. I binge-watched ep 1–8 and had to wait for the weekly updates for ep 9–12. The finale was sweet, but I feel that this series could have been made with longer episodes, maybe 14–16 ep to elaborate more on the details. E.g. what happened to Lee Wan’s mother, who died in the accident, who tampered with Huiju’s car (it could be the Queen’s mother’s dad, but it wasn’t explained thoroughly), etc.Since the title of the drama is Perfect Crown, it would be great to see Lee Wan manage the nation as the new king and Huiju as the queen. However, it’s also great to see them abolishing the monarchy system as it’s kinda sad that Lee Wan’s wish was for Huiju to call him by his real name since he was bound to the royal family and no one ever called him by that name. I just wish there were scenes where Lee Wan spends time with his nephew after abolishing the monarchy.
Anyways, all the casts did well to bring the characters to life 🎉
Gonna miss wanseong alot 😭
Bye wanseong, hi post drama syndrome 🙃

Wasted potential
This drama had the potential to be my nezt comfort rom-com, but the writers decided to fumble so hard in the last 4 episodes. It's a mystery to me how almost every kdrama starts off so good then goes down hill halfway through the drama.I had such a great time watching the first 8 episodes. The plot also seemed light hearted and fun. The writers should've just focused on the rom-vom aspect of the drama, the moment they tried the political arc they failed miserably.
IU and BWS were a delight to watch. Loved their chemistry and how there was no miscommunication. They were very open and straight forward.
Queen mother pissed me off so much and she got away with everything, like BFR?????? She was a literal abuser. The little kid was traumatized by her. She didn't even think before asking to burn down her sons door. She practically killed the late king.
Jinmu aka Lord inpyeong was the most underwhelming villian I have ever watched. His role was so minor and his punishment was even more underwhelming.
PM Min was the worst written character and his downfall wasn't satisfying at all. He committed so many evil, yet remained arrogant until the end and had the audacity to blame I-AN.
Overall I had fun watching this drama, but I wouldn't rewatch it.

WIFE OF A 21ST CENTURY PRINCE
From the very first announcement of Perfect Crown, I was already invested. And when I say invested, I mean I was following every little update possible. I still remember the period when rumors started spreading that Byeon Woo-seok and IU might back out of the drama, and honestly that whole phase felt stressful for no reason. I had already imagined them in those roles, so hearing those rumors had me checking every article and update like crazy. Thankfully everything worked out, because I genuinely cannot imagine anyone else playing these characters now.Watching the drama finally air in 2026 honestly felt rewarding after waiting for it for so long. Somewhere along the way, it became part of my weekly routine without me even realizing it. Fridays and Saturdays started feeling exciting again because I knew there was a new episode waiting for me later in the day. I’m not even kidding when I say I would wake up those mornings and immediately search for previews, still cuts, spoilers, theories — literally anything related to the upcoming episode. It’s been a while since a drama made me feel that kind of anticipation every single week. Now that it’s over, weekends genuinely feel a little empty.
What I loved most about Perfect Crown was just how enjoyable it was to watch. It’s one of those dramas that pulls you in very naturally. The chemistry between Byeon Woo-seok and IU was honestly one of the biggest strengths of the show. Their emotional scenes felt believable, their lighter moments felt comfortable and natural, and together they carried the drama so well. But beyond the romance, I also liked how the drama balanced different elements without making things feel messy. There was palace politics, family tension, romance, humor, emotional moments, and even some quieter scenes that just made you attached to the characters more.
I also need to give a huge shoutout to Gong Seung-yeon as Queen Dowager Yoon Yi-rang because WOW. Her performance was genuinely phenomenal. She brought so much elegance, restraint, tension, and emotional complexity to the role that every scene with her felt important. The character could have easily become one-dimensional in another drama, but Gong Seung-yeon made Yi-rang feel layered and human even during her coldest moments. Some of the best acting in the drama honestly came from her scenes.
And another shoutout to the real MVPs: Yoo Su-bin as Aide Choi Hyun and Lee Yeon as Do Hye-jeong. They did SUCH a fantastic job. Whether it was emotional support, comedic timing, or simply being the ride-or-die assistants everyone secretly wished they had, they added so much charm to the drama. Their scenes were always enjoyable, and honestly half the time I found myself just as invested in them as I was in the main couple
I also appreciated that the drama didn’t feel exhausting to watch. Even during slower episodes, there was always something that kept me interested enough to immediately want the next episode. Some dramas lose momentum halfway through, but Perfect Crown managed to keep me emotionally invested almost the entire time.
That being said, I really do think this drama could have benefited from being a full 16-episode series. The constitutional monarchy storyline had SO much potential. I found the political side of the story genuinely interesting, especially the royal family dynamics and the tension surrounding public image, power, and responsibility. There were certain plotlines and side characters that felt like they could have been explored more deeply if the drama had just a few extra episodes to breathe. I wouldn’t say the pacing was bad, but there were definitely moments where I thought, “I wish they expanded on this more.” The world they created felt interesting enough that I honestly just wanted to spend more time in it.
And as someone who absolutely loves domestic fluff, the final episode was such a treat for me. Sometimes after intense plot-heavy dramas, all I really want is to see the characters happy and comfortable together, and this drama delivered exactly that. The little everyday moments, the soft conversations, the peaceful atmosphere between them — it all felt so warm and satisfying to watch. Those scenes honestly ended up being some of my favorites in the entire drama because they felt earned after everything the characters went through.
To anyone reading this before starting the drama: trust your instinct and just dive in. Don’t overthink ratings, discourse, or people trying to convince you otherwise. If the cast interests you even a little bit, give it a chance. It’s genuinely such a fun ride. For me, Perfect Crown became one of those dramas that reminded me why I love watching ongoing kdramas in the first place — the excitement, the waiting, the discussions, the anticipation every week. And honestly? I’m really going to miss that feeling.

One of the best contract marriage dramas
I remember the days when I first discovered K-dramas, and how hooked I would get on them. I'd be buried under blankets on a Saturday morning, sipping my coffee and definitely not getting to any of my daily responsibilities til about 4 pm. But over time, as I started encountering repeated tropes and plotlines or chemistry that fell flat, I've settled into a rhythm of always having a drama going that I watch every few days or so but typically take a while to finish, but every so often one just takes me back to the golden era of 2016 dramas and I eat it up in less than a week.Perfect Crown was one of those. Honestly, what carried it for me was their relationship. I was swooning at every scene, and the slowburn contract marriage "oh we don't actually like each other... okay maybe I do a little bit... okay I want this to be real now" pacing was just soooo goooood. Their chemistry was also fantastic.
My only criticism is the plot surrounding them of the politics and world-building of the constitutional monarchy had some holes and left me with questions. There's not a lot of sideplot development to bolster the drama as this is 12 episodes instead of 16, so they really focus on the main plot of the relationship. Contrast that to a drama like Crash Landing On You where you don't just see their development, you also see stories like the wiretap guy and his relationship to the ML and all the musical thread of the piano through the whole show. It had 16 episodes to bring all that together. This drama didn't have that depth in the plot, but the relationship did, and oh man was it good.
And, I am not a fan of the "have to hurt you to protect you" trope. But the other tropes are done well.
If you're looking for a gripping thriller political drama, this is probably not for you. But if you want a romcom that absolutely nails the tropes and chemistry between the two leads, this is the one. I watched it in about four days and if I can drag my fellow drama friends into it, I would watch it again tomorrow.

Stealing Hearts and the Throne
Why You Need to Watch This Right Now....The Mind-Blowing Chemistry: The absolute highlight of the show is the electric dynamic between IU (playing Seong Hui-ju) and Byeon Woo-seok (playing Prince Yi-an). Their explosive slow-burn energy and playful tension leap off the screen. Every single gaze, micro-expression, and heated argument leaves you completely breathless. They are easily one of the most visually stunning and emotionally convincing K-drama couples ever.
The Ultimate IU Renaissance: This drama officially made me a fan of IU all over again! Stepping away from her previous roles, she is completely magnetic as a ruthless, sharp, and fiercely independent chaebol heiress. She balances corporate coldness with a hidden vulnerability that makes it impossible not to root for her. It is a commanding, Daesang-worthy performance that reminds everyone why she is an absolute superstar.
An Unforgettable Ensemble Cast: It is incredibly rare to love every single character in a show, but Perfect Crown pulls it off flawlessly. From Woo-seok's deeply charismatic yet lonely Grand Prince to the brilliantly complex supporting players like Noh Sang-hyun and Gong Seung-yeon, everyone brings something vital to the table. Even the scheming rivals and court officials keep you completely glued to the screen.
Immersive Atmosphere and Audio: The production value is top-tier cinematic gold, filled with jaw-dropping modern palace aesthetics and premium high fashion. Combined with an addictive soundtrack featuring Bibi's opening theme "My Pace", the vibe of the series is a total "sugar rush" of style, comedy, and high-society romance.
Overall, I am so glad this ended up meeting my expectations. I have been dropping k-dramas left and right the past two months (Positively Yours, The Practical Guide to Love). However, this drama and Filing for Love has kept me hooked again.
Definitely give it a watch!
Acting: 10/10
Chemistry: 10/10
Music: 9/10
Storyline: 8.5/10

PERFECT CROWN: The Perfect Era of WANSOENG ❤️
Some dramas entertain people for a few weeks. Some dramas become popular for a short moment. But once in many years, a drama comes that becomes more than just a show. A drama that stays in hearts forever. A drama that changes emotions, creates memories, dominates worldwide, and gives viewers something unforgettable.PERFECT CROWN was that drama.
From April 10 to May 16, this masterpiece became my comfort zone, my happiness, my emotional home, and one of the greatest experiences I have ever had with a K-drama. Even after the ending, it still feels unreal that this beautiful journey is over. I am still thinking about every episode, every scene, every smile, every tear, every moment of GRAND PRINCE I-AN and SEONG HUI JU.
And honestly… I still cannot move on.
I have no words strong enough to fully describe how PERFECT, BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT, and EMOTIONAL this drama was. The acting, cinematography, OST, directing, royal atmosphere, historical setting, costumes, emotional depth, romance, tension, comedy, teasing moments, fighting moments, cuddles, hugs, eye contact, kisses… everything felt magical and next level.
This drama did not only give us romance.
It gave us FEELINGS.
And the biggest reason behind that was WANSOENG.
WANSOENG was not just a couple.
They became an emotion.
A phenomenon.
A legendary pairing.
One of the GREATEST K-DRAMA CHEMISTRIES OF ALL TIME.
IU and BYEON WOO SEOK did not just act together — they completely lived their characters. Their chemistry felt natural, insane, powerful, lovely, emotional, soft, intense, and absolutely unforgettable. Every scene together made my heart flutter. Every smile between them felt real. Every emotional moment hit deeply. Their teasing, joking, fighting, comforting, hugging, cuddling, and kissing scenes were beyond beautiful.
The ship kiss scene…
The wedding ceremony…
The bed cuddle scene…
That legendary romantic kiss scene…
Every single moment between WANSOENG made me smile, cry, scream, and fall in love with them even more.
I genuinely have not seen chemistry like this in a very long time.
People criticized their chemistry even before the drama aired. They judged too early and spoke negatively without even watching. But after IU and BYEON WOO SEOK showed what REAL and TRUE chemistry actually looks like, those same people became silent. Because WANSOENG proved everything through their acting, emotions, comfort, connection, and unbelievable screen presence.
They are truly meant for each other on screen.
And for longtime K-drama fans, this reunion felt even more emotional because it brought back the feelings many people missed since Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo in 2016. That drama left a huge emotional scar for fans, and after 10 years, seeing IU and BYEON WOO SEOK together in PERFECT CROWN felt like destiny. It felt like something viewers had been waiting for forever.
This drama satisfied emotions that fans carried for years.
IU… where do I even begin?
NOONA, QUEEN, PRINCESS — your talent is truly unreal. The emotions you delivered as SEONG HUI JU were breathtaking. Every tear felt real. Every expression carried pain, love, elegance, softness, and strength. You once again proved why you are one of the greatest actresses and artists of this generation. The hard work you gave to this role could clearly be seen in every scene. Your acting was graceful, emotional, powerful, and unforgettable.
And BYEON WOO SEOK…
KING.
PRINCE.
OPPA.
Your portrayal of GRAND PRINCE I-AN was absolutely incredible. Your emotional acting, expressions, charisma, romantic scenes, pain, love, protectiveness, and chemistry with IU created one of the most unforgettable male leads in modern K-drama history. You made viewers completely fall in love with your character.
And the supporting cast also deserves massive praise.
STEVE NOH, GONG SEUNG YEON, LEE YEON, YOO SOO BIN, the LITTLE KING, and every actor in this drama gave amazing performances that made the world of PERFECT CROWN feel alive and emotional. Everyone played their roles beautifully.
The production team also deserves appreciation and respect. Thank you for choosing this cast, especially IU and BYEON WOO SEOK for these roles. It truly felt like a dream casting choice. Even with the rushed episode reduction and controversies surrounding production decisions, the heart and passion inside this drama still shined brighter than everything else.
And about the backlash and hate…
Honestly, every truly GREAT drama faces criticism.
The biggest dramas in history always had haters, controversies, and negativity surrounding them. That is actually one sign of massive popularity and impact. If nobody talks, criticizes, debates, or reacts emotionally, then the drama never reached greatness.
PERFECT CROWN reached greatness.
Even with criticism, backlash, and ridiculous controversy, this drama still dominated ratings, conversations, trends, worldwide discussions, and social media. It became a GLOBAL PHENOMENON. It competed with international shows, dominated rankings, peaked worldwide, and brought back the feeling of the Hallyu wave again. People everywhere were talking about WANSOENG.
And despite all negativity, the success could not be stopped.
No matter how much hate appeared, nobody could erase the chemistry, emotional impact, popularity, performances, and love this drama received from real viewers worldwide.
Haters tried to bring them down.
But instead, PERFECT CROWN became even bigger.
That is the funniest part.
And honestly? The cast deserves much more love instead of unnecessary hate. They worked extremely hard and gave viewers a masterpiece that many people will remember forever.
I truly hope this drama receives many awards because it deserves recognition for everything it achieved — acting, chemistry, cinematography, popularity, emotional impact, OST, directing, and worldwide success.
WANSOENG deserves Best Couple awards.
IU deserves acting awards.
BYEON WOO SEOK deserves acting awards.
The drama itself deserves Drama of the Year.
And even now after the ending…
I still miss them.
Still cry thinking about them.
Still replay scenes.
Still listen to the OST.
Still wish we got 16 episodes instead of 12.
Still waiting for updates, special episodes, behind-the-scenes clips, interviews, and hopefully another reunion project in the future.
Because WANSOENG is unforgettable.
They are the ROYAL COUPLE.
They are the PERFECT COUPLE.
They are WANSOENG.
And they will forever stay in my heart.
No matter how much negativity exists, no one can stop truly shining stars. IU and BYEON WOO SEOK shined brightly together and created one of the most beautiful on-screen couples in K-drama history.
Thank you, PERFECT CROWN.
Thank you, WANSOENG.
Thank you for every emotion, every smile, every tear, and every unforgettable memory.
This was not just a drama.Everything was Very Perfect to me,
This was history. 👑✨

modern royalty done differently :p
9/10 ⭐️ perfect crown lowkey surprised me sooo much :p dari awal aja vibesnya udh beda banget because they really made the whole “modern korean monarchy” thing feel real and interesting?? aku awalnya agak bingung + belum kebiasa sama politics & royal systemnya, tapi makin lama malah makin kebawa sama ceritanya :D world buildingnya keren bangettt, mereka bisa mix budaya kerajaan lama sama kehidupan modern without making it feel awkward or too dramatic. chemistry main lead sama second lead juga MANIS BANGET pls :”) terus villainnya juga iconic banget, tipe yg bikin kesel tiap muncul tapi at the same time bikin drama nya makin hidup >:( plotnya emang bukan yg penuh shocking twist atau bikin aku teriak tiap eps, but it’s the kind of drama yg bikin kamu nyaman ngikutin ceritanya terus. satu hal yg agak ganggu buat aku cuma endingnya :( bagian pas monarki dihapus tuh kerasa too sudden dan kurang dijelasin impact besarnya ke negara, jadi aku malah banyak mikir “wait… terus setelah ini gimana?” :’) imo bakal lebih satisfying kalo sistem kerajaannya tetep ada sampe akhir. but overall this drama was REALLY good. vibes kerajaan modernnya dapet banget, soundtracknya juga bikin feel dramanya makin mahal :p not exactly a drama i’d rewatch 100 times, but definitely one of the most unique watches i’ve had lately <3Was this review helpful to you?
It’s been a long time since I got so attached to a drama like I did to this one.
It’s been a long time since I got so emotionally attached to a drama like I did to this one. From the very first episodes, the story completely pulled me in and made me genuinely care about every character. It’s going to be really hard to forget this series. I loved the chemistry between the main couple, the outstanding performance of the entire cast, and the unique, captivating storyline that felt refreshing from start to finish. I only feel that the plot had enough material for 16 episodes, allowing the ending to unfold more naturally and calmly.I am in love with the little king.
