Didn’t Sit Right With Me

I've already watched a lot of vertical and short series, so I didn’t have many expectations from the story itself. What I was really hoping for was strong performances from the actors and they did deliver on that front. The cast is talented, and they portrayed their characters well.

However, when it came to execution, I had certain expectations, and that’s where things fell short. Sometimes the writing felt plain stupid, making me question if the drama was even worth continuing.

For example, why was the female lead shown sympathizing with the evil female lead who had wronged her? That didn’t sit right with me. Also, when the female lead suddenly revealed her secret to the male lead, it didn’t feel natural it came out of nowhere and lacked flow.

The male lead’s sudden attraction to the female lead also felt rushed, probably a result of limited time. But it didn’t feel organic.

some places i felt FL was lacked in performance.

Even the kiss scene felt forced, like the actors were trying hard not to touch each other and just doing it because the director told them to not because it made sense for the characters.

All in all, I’m dropping this one. It just didn’t work for me.

Surprisingly inspiring

Story of a girl who stood up alone and slapped hierarchy and patriarchy right across the face (metaphorically… but I wish literally).

Le Yao is a village girl who gets humiliated, betrayed, and ultimately killed by her “best friend”/maid and crooked in-laws. She’s reborn a month before her death (yup, traitor bestie respawns too cause the universe said let’s run it back). With a second chance in hand, she is willing to level up with strategies not tears.

There are tons of rebirth-revenge plots out there, but I only appreciate the ones where the FL actually uses her brain. I don’t want those stories where the lead voluntarily walks into 30 slaps, 12 torture sessions, 5 public humiliations, and sacrifices entire army “for the sake of revenge.” ..Huh! So inefficient..Boring!

This FL?? She is smart.. top tier strategist ..she got punished only one time (hurt her fingers) and lost a lady member of her team but at the expense of this her comeback was an absolute blockbuster. Her schemes planning and her unwavering focus on her goal .... Simple wow ... I loved how the ML started taking dictation from her from a very early stage totally succumbing to her intelligence and wisdom ... And this is the reason why she wasn't just loved but respected and worshiped by this sigma man. Nice chemistry.

Reading the reviews here I was a bit sceptical but This drama got almost 900 thousand views in a single month on you tube( compilation video) ... I guess figure speak louder than words but even the comments are positive.

The ending was a bit anticlimactic, I won’t lie but it’s fine. I wasn’t planning on giving it a full 10/10 anyway.

Dark Themes, Strong Acting, Weak Emotional Core

This drama is intense, twist-filled, and heavily character-driven, with turns happening almost every few minutes. The story focuses on the idea of “the little people” being discarded by those in power, alongside women trying to claim their own strength and place in society. While the romance is present, it clearly takes a back seat to the political intrigue and power struggles.

The main lead, Jian Qui is determined, caring, and just. He is not a flawless hero; he carries his own inner demons, much like the female lead and even the antagonist. The female lead’s journey is rooted in rebirth and trauma, where she swears to save her loved ones from death after suffering horrific past experiences. However, her attempts often fall short, becoming a recurring theme of the story. Despite her determination, she frequently relies on the male lead to resolve critical situations, which weakens her agency at times.

The villainous characters are not purely evil; each of them is given a perspective and motivation, which makes them more layered and interesting. Even the so-called villainess has a complex backstory, though it is somewhat simplified in execution, especially with her predictable emotional dependency on the male lead.

The emperor stands out as the only truly irredeemable character, while most others receive some form of resolution or consequence by the end. The narrative explores dark themes such as abuse of power, exploitation, and emotional trauma, including disturbing elements like coercion, manipulation, and violence.

The romance, however, feels lukewarm and at times lacks sincerity. Some viewers may find the romantic scenes underwhelming or even cringeworthy, as emotional depth between the leads is not always convincingly portrayed.
Despite these flaws, the production quality is strong. The cast is visually appealing and delivers solid performances, and the costumes and sets are beautifully designed. The overall aesthetic of the drama is polished and high quality, making it feel like a well-funded production.

However, the writing does not always match the production value. What could have been a gripping psychological and political drama about smart characters outmaneuvering each other often gets simplified by predictable twists and underdeveloped execution. Each time an interesting turn appears, it quickly resolves in a more generic direction, which reduces its overall impact.

In the end, this is a drama with strong ideas, good acting, and high production value, but inconsistent writing. It had the potential to be remarkable, especially with its themes of power, survival, and human weakness, but doesn’t fully reach that level.

A Rebirth Tale That Failed to Soar

Started with an intriguing premise of rebirth and revenge, but the execution fell flat. While the dual rebirth twist was interesting at first, the shallow execution and lack of emotional depth made it hard to connect with the story or its leads. Despite its potential, it never quite spread its wings, and I eventually dropped it without regret.
