Still together, still chaotic and still not talking!

This season carried the same chaos from season 1. Dramatic reactions, peak non-communication and emotional mess as Hajime and Akafuji navigate their way through figuring out their new relationship.

The comedy is filled with awkward pauses, dramatic zoom ins and over the top absurdity as expected. The non communication trope is stronger than ever but it didn't annoy me as much because I expected that, considering how much Akafuji worships Hajime and how difficult it is to convey your real feelings to your idol turned boyfriend.

But as much as I enjoyed the chaos, I was expecting a bit more growth. The emotional development of the leads felt kind of stuck, like they were still circling the same issues from Season 1 without really moving forward with the same reluctance to communicate. And while that works for comedy, it started to feel repetitive after a point. I wanted to see more emotional or vulnerable moments, something that showed how they understand each other or atleast try to convey their feelings but the drama sadly kept things on the surface level.
The pacing was somehow off too. Some episodes in the middle felt like they were stalling for time

Also, let’s talk about the kisses. Or well… whatever those were. I get it...if it had happened earlier in the season, I would have let it slide because of how the characters were at that point. But even the final kiss, after they had talked things out was honestly a bit disappointing. By then, I was just hoping they would rather hug it out and call it a day because watching that was more awkward than sweet.

Coming to supporting characters, the second couple was a pleasant surprise. They had good chemistry despite having limited on-screen time and the little backstory they gave us was enough for me to root for their relationship. I just wish they had gotten a bit more time to make their relationship more real. Hoping for maybe a little spinoff of their own in the future.
Haibara's character ended up being used mostly as a plot device to stir jealousy. I did like the little found family trope that they tried portraying but as a character he didn't get the depth he deserved.

Overall, while it didn't reinvent anything and fix all it's flaws from previous season, it stayed true to what made it fun to begin with. It was had that chaotic BL parody vibe.
I would recommend it if you enjoy the classic Japanese humor and overall chaotic vibes.

I wish I could like this more...

While the chaos and comedy was quite funny in the first installment, it felt over the top in the 2nd. Especially after they ended up together they made no progress at all. That felt disappointing...

On the plus side we have a show which does take itself seriously, we had the manager couple which are gorgeous and the finale where we had a mature scene between the two MLs were they talked about their feelings. On the negative side, of course for me, they still did not really kiss. WTF? If you do a BL, do it right and not half assed. That annoys me tremendously.

So if you like a comedy setting, this is for you, even if sometimes did felt cringe for me. On the other hand the script was not bad, they only did everything over the top. I mostly enjoyed the show but for me it did not come close to the first season and I wished they would have more time invested in both couples interactions.

Frustrating

This particular series is not one of those series that can grabs your imagination or interest.

It's a simple Japanese BL with oover used unsubstantiated anguished, average acting , and below average writiing.

iI's just too frustrating watching grown men unable to communicate, scared to express their emotions, and unable to talk to each other.

If you enjoy unnecessary anguished and grown men who are unable to communicate their feelings toward one another then this is BL series for you.

I Became the Main Role of a BL Drama Season 2 – Cute but Still Lacking Depth

After the dead fish kiss in Season 1, I was really hoping for some growth in Season 2… but sadly, not much changed. Even one of the leads says, "We've been together for so long but our relationship hasn't changed at all." That line sums it up perfectly—and the irony stings. After two seasons, the main couple still feels awkward and emotionally distant. The final kiss was brief and lacked impact—I expected a more intimate and evolved relationship, but it never quite got there. 😕

That said, Aoyanagi Hajime was the highlight for me—he’s so cute, charming, and genuinely loveable. His energy brought some life into an otherwise light, easygoing series that didn’t offer much in terms of plot or emotional payoff.

Overall, Season 2 is a soft, cute watch if you’re just looking for something chill—but don’t expect major developments or satisfying romance. Weak plot, awkward leads, but still sweet enough to pass the time.

The kings of romantic chaos return

No one does chaotic comedy like Japan, and no one can seamlessly combine chaos, comedy and romance like I Became the Lead in a BL.

Now certainly this is not the show that is going to stick with you for a long time or anything of the sort, chances are, you watch it and it's almost forgotten in half an hour.
But this is the kind of show that can captivate you every single time you watch it, no matter how many times you do.

I was clutching at my sides laughing at Akafuji and Hajime return as their chaotic selves, and the comedy and romance were at a peak. It's kind of insane that the entire premise of season 2 was silly panic, but on brand, they made it work.

It's just good fun, you laugh, you kick your feet in pure bliss because they're a joy to witness on screen and you revel in the happiness that this quirky chaos has brought, of course I loved it and I hope you do too.

still had some fun parts but they needed to focus on the 4 main characters

Overall: season 2 had a promising start, but it fell into season 2 plot cliches like poor communication skills. You can see my season 1 review here https://kisskh.at/profile/blcompilations/review/326187 - 6 episodes about 20 minutes each. Aired on GagaOOLala (worldwide except Japan, Korea, Macau & Hong Kong) https://www.gagaoolala.com/en/videos/5391/i-became-the-main-role-of-a-bl-drama-2023-s02e01

What I Liked
- laughed several times
- acting

Room For Improvement
- dead fish lip press in episode 1 and the finale
- love rivals/not communicating that dragged on and hogged time that could have been spent on the leads
- was disappointed with the manager reveal, secretly feeling one way and then lying/deceiving your partner out loud is icky

An unexpected sequel that I didn’t know I needed.

I remember how goofy and funny that prequel was. When they announced that a second season is coming, I felt so happy knowing that due to its success, they are giving us more. The fun and quirky love story between Akafuji and Aoyanagi literally brings good vibes to me.

What else can make one story more interesting better than adding new characters to stir up their relationship. Seeing familiar faces from previous J-BLs shows, I am so delighted to see both Robin and Gaku in this sequel. Adding more handsome faces to the scenes and I particularly love it.

As a big fan of romantic-comedy genres, this drama is such a happy pill. I burst out laughing during the sauna scene where they censored Aoyanagi’s nipple with Akafuji’s exaggerated reaction as usual.

Aside from maintaining the same fun element from the prequel, what I also love about this sequel is that they finally unveil the relationship to the two managers as the side-story. Yukari is just the same as his actor, Akafuji. He is an avid fan of the retired-actor-turned-manager Kijima that became his romantic partner eventually. I love the serious and jolly personality that these two managers have. Such a good plot twist!

On EP05, when Akafuji dressed as a girl servant in order to spy on his boyfriend, it was such a funny thing. I even didn’t notice that the background character was the main character itself. Great execution of those scenes. Their charm is to actually surprise us with an entertaining approach.

As we all knew, the main issue that the MCs had was the communication and comprehension problems they both have due to being respectable to one another. I’m glad that they are finally able to learn and convey their real thoughts and emotions at the finale. I am just hoping to see more intimate scenes from them but it’s still okay knowing that it was a rom-com drama.

I love the prequel and I also love this sequel. With the prequel only having three short EPs, from the sequel turning it to have six EPs, I am so happy to once again indulge with their chemistry and undying visuals.

Adorableness or Frustration? Season 1 = Adorableness, Season 2 = Frustration

I was trying to figure out if I find this season as adorable as the first season, or if it's actually frustrating. I think I have come to the conclusion that it’s actually frustrating.

What was cute and adorable about the guessing-of-feeling game in season 1 feels really old now. It is OK to have inner monologues and be unsure when you are not in a relationship yet. But in this season, feelings are confirmed and the leads are in the dating stage. Yet, their relationship has remained stagnant, and they never grow as partners or individually. The lack of communication becomes frustrating to watch. We have to wait for a very long time before they talk to each other. By then, I don’t really care anymore.

On the other hand, the secondary couple, though with limited screen time, becomes more interesting. I find myself looking forward to their scenes, and wanting to know more about Kijima and Yukari individually and as a couple. This opposite attraction is so much more fun. The drama should give them more screen time instead of giving them to the two new characters.

Even though I welcome Furuya Robin on my screen, I don’t know if his character, Haibara, adds anything of substance to the story. He is used as a third wheel to make someone jealous. Does he really only want to be a big brother? Or want to be the one that knows Hajime best? Or more? The newly added director character is also not that interesting to me and way too over-the-top. I would rather see more of season 1 characters, fellow drama actors Kuromiya Ryoga and Tendo Nanami.

But, if you like this style of Japanese drama and acting, Yuichiro and Hajime are still very likable, funny and adorable. As a standalone drama, it’s really cute. But as a sequel, the expectations are higher. Luckily, the drama is short with only 6 episodes (about 20 minutes each). It’s basically the same length as season 1. It’s a simple and fun watch to kill time.

I’m usually pretty skeptical when it comes to second seasons cause they rarely live up to the magic of the first. But season 2 totally delivered. The chemistry between Alan Abe and Nichika Akutsu is still top-tier.

Love takes patience and maturity, and that’s what makes the chaotic moments, the inner monologues, the miscommunications, and all the jealousy so powerful. They show how the characters grow, learning to face their fears, insecurities, and emotions in such a genuine way, leading us to that heartfelt conversation at the end of the series.

PS: that scene where Akafuji was dressed up as a maid to spy on Aoyagi was absolutely hilarious!

Last episode is the best one.

I wasn't a big fan of the first season, and the second season is quite the same.
It is just not my kind of humor, and i really get anoyed by the overly shy characters.
I liked the last episode the most, because then they have a mature conversation about their feelings.

I liked the second couple more then the mains...

And with a title "i became the main lead in a BL" and then just no kisses at all, just one press on the lips like in season 1...sorry but that is just wrong!
I say it every time, better no kiss than a "dead kiss".

Spinoff is needed badly

This second season actually pulled me back in and i ended up watching the whole season in a day as usual their communication was annoying i feel like it was worse this season because they really werent addressing anything the whole time even after the confessions. Im still like the lies were for what? Our second couple deserved so much more time this season they were so mature and also paralleled the main relationship but with better communication. I really hope the creators give us a spin off with them. T

room for a third season?

I can‘t add much more than other reviewers. It was fun, silly, a little over the top and short. I enjoyed every episode even though it wasn’t much different from S1. They even pointed that out in the last episode. There wasn‘t much - if any - character development compared to S1. We see how far Akafuji or Hajime are willing to go and do stuff in secret instead of talking to each other.
(As always) I love the usage of inner monologue in japanese dramas, that makes the miscommunication trope way more interesting and bearable.
While there was more about the managers relationship in this one I wished there was even more about them. They seem to be AkafujixHajime 2.0. So, how will their relationship turn out in the long run? They seem a little more grounded/mature compared to AxH. Need some answers there.
And in the end there seems to be hints for a possible third season. I‘d be open to watch that.
