Not a typical kdrama, but you can watch it if you want to have comedy, inventigation and undercover element. I expect this drama to have some romance or ML to be more mature like they usually portray in kdrama. But that is not what he is and i am diappointed in it. But if you are fan of non romance purely office base comedy and invetigation drama set in the backdrop of 1990 so you must try it. Acting of park shin hye is amazing and fun in it, she always amaze me with her humorous face expression.

Undercover Miss Hong is not only a story about a woman in the late 90s Korea, who is trying to make a name for herself in a very masculine world and work environment – something that the drama uses very well in the narrative with a good, ironic tone and humor that give us many funny, yet sincere moments. And one of the main strengths of the drama is how well it establishes trust with its audience. Just like our main character, the story itself seems smart and stable no matter what happens.

The story allows the viewer to float along the narrative and just enjoy the interesting character dynamics that go through ups and downs, providing us with information about the mystery, building up backstories of the characters in a very deliberate way, without overwhelming the story. We do not encounter unnecessary side stories that distract us from the main narrative, too many fillers, making the pace remain very stable throughout the story. Everything that happens has a purpose.

The drama gives the audience an opportunity to witness the mystery along with the characters, and the story is also not in any hurry to get at certain moments or plot points, introduce characters or anything like that too early. You must build things up within a narrative which this drama is very aware off. Everything seems rather deliberately done, and it’s all part of the larger context making every clue we uncover, or the victories achieved by the characters in the narrative feel earned.

The main heart and core of this drama, however, lies with it galore of interesting and dynamic female characters present within this story, who are allowed to take up space, have an impact, and be at the forefront of the story. As well as the cast who are all doing an amazing job bringing the story to live. The budding female friendships, their antics and individual roles within the story are all given their time to shine, breathe and develop within the story.

But it can also be said about any character in the story, no matter how big or small their role was. All the characters serve a specific purpose within the story and seem tangible and real, and while they can sometimes fall into caricatures it seems to have been done so deliberately for the humor and the tone of the show. Even the other so-called villains, who are sometimes like they are cut out of soap operas, serve the story in a certain way, and the story is very aware of that.

And those characters, or those soapy moments, even brings up a certain tone within a story that allows the female characters all to have a certain connection to each other despite how different they are. And this tone that the drama manages to create, as well as the slow-paced character development that the drama focuses on, gives these players within the story such a good opportunity to be different, and be their own characters who deal with things in different ways.

The drama is presented in a very stylish way, taking advantage of the period it is set in, in the latter part of the 90s in a very effective and entertaining way and making the story feel lively, lived in and believable. That, as with some many aspects of this drama, seems to have been done with sincerity, and great thought. Because while the drama is very funny and exciting it is also at times incredibly thoughtful and moving as it explores how corporate greed and corruption affects the workers who are just trying to survive day to day while the rich play their little chess games for fun.

Despite not every character being likeable the drama does do a good job making you understand them and make them enjoyable to watch, with also many thanks to the actors who breath live into them, as every characters bring out something within the story and serve the plot to a certain degree. That’s good storytelling.

The story is clever in terms of the layout of each episode, avoiding cramming too much into it at once and allowing the side stories to build up naturally in the background until they finally serve the narrative and can come from the margins and into the foreground. Even certain characters, who seem to have been put aside by the narrative, have been intentionally put there until a certain point that serves the story.

No matter if it is the pasts of the characters that comes into play, backstories and other things, all of these things simmer gently under the surface until the story thinks it’s time to bring that out without dragging down the main story. This is more of a character-driven story with a good dash workplace humor and a tale of friendship, than a love story, which I think was very refreshing to watch.

From start to finish to was exciting, funny but also heartwarming and heartbreaking. It’s hard to guess what will happen next or when the next plot twists comes, how the characters will get out of each situations, but it always works out in the end and all without it seeming too rushed, simple or dumbed down. And that all manages to make many of those moments within the story feel really impactful and well earned.

Undercover Miss Hong has a good, steady rhythm to it’s storytelling that allows it to balance a lot of things within the narrative at the same time; backstories and reflections off the characters, the interesting character dynamics, humor and mystery. And the drama manages to keep the viewer well engaged without overwhelming the story too much. All of that along with a very stylish setting, dynamic female characters, humorous character interactions, as well as excellently paced tension this drama manages to sail the seas of Yeouido and the economic crisis of late 90s in Korea relatively unscathed and without missing a beat and delivering a very lively story.

Fresh & Incredibly amusing

*Undercover Miss Hong* was, above all, incredibly amusing, honestly, the best word to sum up my experience. I went into it expecting a romance, and halfway through, I found myself confused about why the storyline wasn’t developing that way, only to realise there were no romance tags at all, and surprisingly, I loved that. What really stood out was how smoothly everything unfolded, especially the slush fund plot; even in moments where it felt like things might fall apart, they somehow always worked out in such a satisfying way. The character dynamics were a huge highlight, particularly watching people gradually shift to the “good” side; it felt genuinely thrilling.

Albert completely stole the show for me; his presence, acting, charm, and overall demeanour had me fully captivated, and I’m already looking forward to seeing him in other roles. Director Bang was another favourite, endearingly cowardly despite trying to act tough, and the banter between Director Cha and Miss Hong was consistently entertaining and well-balanced. Nora was brilliant too, especially towards the end when she played that tougher, deceptive role so convincingly. The drama felt very complete, nothing seemed out of place or lacking, and even emotional plot points, like the roommate’s attempted suicide, were handled in a way that ultimately felt responsible and hopeful, especially with her later growth. The humour across side characters added even more charm, and I loved the little quirks each person brought. Visually and stylistically, everything, from the outfits to the soundtrack, was on point, with the music especially being so calming that I added it to my playlist immediately.

While I rated it a 9/10, mostly because it’s not my usual rom-com sweet spot, it honestly could be a 10 on another day. My only real gripe is that President Shin didn’t get as much screen time as I expected, but even that doesn’t take away from how satisfying the overall story was.

For me, this is what I’d call a “healing drama”, not slow or escapist, but one where problems are resolved in a wholesome, rewarding way. I genuinely, thoroughly enjoyed it.

fun, yet somewhat confusing, show

I only say confusing in the context of there being so many names to keep straight, plus the fact that a few of them had two names. That being said, this was a fun watch. Not laugh-out-loud funny, but there were oh so many cute scenes. I enjoyed trying to figure out who the true villains were.

The standout story lines were the ones involving the roommates of Room 301. Hang Geum Bo (Park Shin Hye) is a 36-year-old that goes undercover at a company, pretending to be 20. This was made more interesting by the fact that she was not a nice person. She was hard to get along with, had no filter for things she would say, and would not suffer fools gladly. Yet the four women (and the darling daughter of one of the women) eventually became fast friends and learned to lean on and protect one another. I loved the found friendship/family trope, so I was all in for this.

The only one I didn't like in this was Go Kyung Pyo (Sin Jeong U). To me, he seemed too stiff and monotone.

This is not a romance. Geum Bo and Jeong U were in a relationship years ago. Then he stabbed her in the back when they worked together. I think part of her plan was to get revenge on him. Cho Han Gyeol as Albert O was wonderful as the young man that gets a crush on her, but it doesn't go anywhere.

The ending shows her moving on to another undercover case, leaving the door open for a season 2, but I don't think it's necessary, and I would miss the rest of the cast and their interactions.

ALBERT AND NORA CARRIED THIS

This show had two things I absolutely adore when it comes to K-dramas: 1990 theme and an undercover storyline.

At first, I wasn’t sure about starting it. The female lead actress felt a bit mid to me and the storyline revolving around economic crimes made me think I’d get bored pretty quickly. I’m actually really glad I watched it, though. The story had a slightly boring moment around episode 7, but after that it skyrockets and becomes much more interesting.

The friendship between the girls (and also the pirate group) was my favorite part. I also really liked the relationship between the female lead and her mentor a lot. Their dynamic was very enjoyable to watch and added another nice layer to the story.

For me, Albert and Nora carried the K-drama the most. Their storyline and their characters were portrayed really well, and I loved watching them on screen. The only black sheep of the whole story was the male lead, he wasn’t interesting at all and sometimes he actually annoyed me.

The female lead was okay. I liked her dynamic personality and everything, but sometimes I hated the way she treated certain people. Overall though, she was a good character. I do have to say that if she didn’t have the friendships with the others, she would have been very obnoxious.

I liked the mystery elements as well. The story had a good flow overall. It was also surprisingly hilarious at times, which I absolutely loved.

I also have to say that my favorite character was Jim Mok. I absolutely adored him and wish we got to see more of him. I don’t want to spoil anything, but yeah, he was amazing. I love characters who seem uninterested in everything on the surface but are actually huge softies trying their best behind the scenes.

Seeing all the criticism about the actress being in her late 30s while going undercover as a 20-year-old made me think it would feel awkward. But honestly, they handled it really well and it never felt off.

Overall, it was a really good undercover drama. I definitely recommend it!

Showcase of Intelligent FL in A Puzzling Case

What a story! This is what would happen if the leads chose to use 100% of their brain instead of doing stupid things. I really love how they depict Hong Geum Bo, a very tactical and calculative. She knew she was fighting a losing battle, so she needed to be cautious. She always made herself one step ahead of everyone, and always had plans and backups before taking any actions. On the other hand, the Hanmin management was feeling complacent as they had done something similar and was able to get away with it. It was really nice that she trapped Hanmin in a disadvantage by stealing their illegal money. They couldn't report the disappearance of a slush fund, yet they couldn't kill Geum Bo because theyneeded to know where was the money. The plot is fun and all the frictions seemed very organic. I really love the internal political conspiracies, where everyone was plotting their own agenda against each other behind their back. Massive shoutout to the character development of everyone after Mi Suk suicide attempt.

The story seems very heavy on the earlier episode, especially since it involves quite technical financial issues and terms. The first and second episodes are really heavy, but as the story progressing it becomes more fun and lighter. Even there is a lot of comedy in the latter episodes. Outstanding performance of everyone, especially Im Chul Soo, Kim Won Hae, Cho Han Gyeol, Ha Yoon Kyung and of course Park Shin Hye. It looks like she was built for a badass role like this, although I still feel she looks younger with the previous style compared with the look after her sister "transformed" her. Kim Won Hae deserves a main lead title here. They put big names even on the supporting roles, and surely it pays off! Shout out the the wardrobe team to make the setting to be as 90s as possible, not only for the casts but also for the background people.

Up until the end, I still don't understand what benefit would Song Ju Ran get by instating Kang No Ra as the president. It didn't seem like No Ra was going to give any key position for her. I also think the reason for No Ra's childhood abduction attempt was unclear. They also didn't explain how the prosecution service was able to present Bang Jin Mok as a witness. The revenge was served cold, but not for Nam Dong Gi. He was forgotten.

With a heavy topic, it's rare to find something fun and funny like this. Watch this if you're up for a puzzling thriller with an intelligent female lead!

The kind of drama that is always worth watching

I started this drama without any expectations, and it ended up really surprising me. I enjoyed every episode and it was a great experience overall. The way it blends different genres and makes them work together is excellent.
The characters are very memorable and well developed, especially the main female group, who definitely don't play a minor role here. In fact, I loved how their friendship became something so valuable to the plot.
I'd say that Yoon Kyung's (Bokhee) character stole the show for me. If I had to mention something negative about the show it would be that the chairman character felt a bit out of place to me. I think it's because I'm used to seeing that actor play the “good guy,” so I didn't quite believe him as the villain here, which sometimes made his scenes a bit hard for me to watch. But like I said, maybe that's just me.
Anyway, this is a great drama and, in my opinion, one of the best of the year so far. I really recommend everyone give it a chance and please, let's not let the 16 episode format die.

One of my favorite watch in 2026!!!

For those expecting romance, we have a disclaimer- this show isn’t about romance, it is all about BUSINESS!!!

Park Shin Hye & Go Kyung Pyo reunite almost a decade later after “Flower Boy Next Door” in “Undercover Miss Hong”. You might expect a love story portraying their characters. Sadly they play ex- lovers who reunite but don’t reconcile. Set in the late 1990s, tvN’s “Undercover Miss Hong” is a comic crime thriller. It is a women’s mission against financial crimes and corruption. You grow to respect the lead protagonist as she single-handedly stands against a billion dollar company and its executives. Along the way, she discovers the value of friendships and companionship. The storytelling is solid, there is never a dull moment and every episode has something new to offer. I waited with bated breath to see what kind of hijinks the girl’s gang would get into.

Amazing from start to finish, but be warned no romance

First I would like to point out for anyone wanting to watch this drama thinking it has ROMANCE that it doesn't.
I kind of started watching it thinking it would have some, even as a subplot but it's not the case. This didn't diminish my enjoyment of the series but I feel the need to point it out here in case anyone only wants to watch a romance because you'll be disappointed in that sense (the drama is very well worth it without it and I totally recommend, but no one likes to feel their expectations were not met after having read the tags here).
Hopefully the tag is removed here as it makes it confusing for prospective watchers.

When it comes to the drama, it's dynamic from start to finish, I wasn't bored even once, the relationships between the women are beautiful to see and the drama in the company was kept entertaining all throughout.
I also liked the male cast and I feel all the characters had their flaws that made them more human but also more approachable and it was easy to sympathise with them. This has to be one of the first kdramas in years if not ever that has made me sympathise and like the chaebol daughter and grandson, even the ex-wife, probably because I haven't seen many if any instances of chaebols so blatantly rejecting their position, status, nepotism and inheritance as in here, almost in a bored way, in a "I have better and more interesting things to do than be here". The couple of lines that were given for their after in the sort of epilogue were great and loved to see it, it fits them perfectly. Both Albert and Nora were cinnamon buns to me (as well as Kim Bom, cutest kid).

The FL is absolutely amazing, even in her obsession for getting the job done, she can't be stopped and I loved to see it.
I think the whole drama is very well balanced as well, there is a bit of everything even though the plot is quite linear, we manage to see her past, background, family, exboyfriend and evolution to a healthy relationship between them. Amazing to see and so rare!!!! I loved the background detail of FL's parents and how they start fighting the baddies at one point, it was so funny and so cool to see.
I liked Ko Bok Hui as a flawed character that has done questionable things in the past, I enjoyed her evolution. My only criticism with her is her epilogue persona. The fact all of a sudden they dressed her like that because she's now a hairdresser? because she has a criminal record? Not sure, but I found it a bit lazy and out of place in my opinion considering how she has been the whole series.

Although there is no romance, and it doesn't need it, not going to lie I would have liked it a bit as a very small subplot. It's not needed! but maybe because I had the expectation given the tags and because at point the drama kind of points towards it, I did miss it a tiny bit. I did enjoy the crushes Albert and Lee Yong Gi had for the FL, it was very cute in a school way, and honestly if they had gone that route either of the two would have worked well for the FL and would have made for a cute very side subplot. But it's ok as it was too (plus yeah, especially with Albert there was an important age gap, not sure what Yong Gi was supposed to be age wise though).

Other characters I very much enjoyed that are more secondary, like Bang Jin Mok, Cha Jeong II, Yun Jae Beom (absolutely hilarious). Generally all characters were great, and I think it's the main reason this drama worked so well for me. The main plot is not that groundbreaking by any means, it has been done before in one way or another, but the characters make up for it big time. You get invested in them and enjoy their relationships, personalities and banter with one another. At moments the drama is funny, at others is sad, but it keeps a balance that simply works and keeps you entertained without tipping that balance too much towards one side or the other and feeling out of place.

Normally I don't pay attention to the music in kdramas because I rarely like it, more often than not it tends to start to annoy me as episodes go, this is one of those rare shows where I actually enjoyed the songs that played in the background to the point I'll be looking some of them up.
Also especial mention to the flashbacks with that retro filter with grainy lines, it was a good choice, not in the way, it wasn't annoying and it made it easy for the audience to recognise it was a flashback (see director of Surely Tomorrow, this is how you do it).

Overall I really recommend this drama, it's an all rounder, enjoyable, entertaining, great characters and very good acting.

Geumbokhee forever

I was worried this would spoil some of the magic at the end, like a lot of series can, but nope. Geumbokhee is canon, and you can't prove otherwise. Period setting is really fun and while I was worried it would be just slightly too quirky and manic, it strikes a really good balance between comedy and drama without feeling jarring in either sense, even if the comedy is really screwball and the plot can get quite surprisingly serious (though not too melodramatic) at times. It's all very natural feeling.

Love the performances from all the women, and this might be the first time a random kid has sprung up in a show's plot and not just not ruined things, but actually improved things. The Korean birth rate propaganda works if the child is being raised by two lesbian couples living together it turns out. I will admit to not liking Nora at first, and I never quite fully came around on her much sillier and less developed character, even if she has way more screen time than Mi-sook, I feel Mi-sook was just a better character and we just saw more of her. I did end up liking more than I disliked her at the end though, she just feels like a character from something a little more focused on pure comedy than a comedy-drama. I'm also going to be real, the Risk Management guys and Cha Jung-il are the only interesting men. Shin Jung-woo and President Kang are devastatingly boring, thankfully Song Ju-ran is a much better secondary villain to Kang. Also love Choi In-ja and the way she mirrors characters like Bok-hee. So many fun to watch female characters to more than make up for the boring men, and yet CERTAIN PEOPLE have spent the entire drama's run speculating about M/F relationships instead.

More importantly, there's several Hong Kong cinema references here that aren't obscure or anything but I just find it really funny that Google translates Hong Geum-bo's name to Sammo Hung, and then you start to realise that was a totally on purpose similarity. The A Better Tomorrow reference here isn't as good as Extreme Job's though, the gold standard for jarringly random HK cinema references in Korean entertainment. Speaking of, I love Director Yun so much.

I want a season 2 but I also think they captured lightning in a bottle with the cast chemistry among the women of Room 301 and I'm not sure they can do it a second time without something being missing or having them come together as a group and have it not feel forced. I will at the very least take Geumbokhee as a FSS agent/PI buddy cop duo though.

A story about female friendship disguised as a legal/ company drama.

Just finished too! Really loved the ending! Tbh I feel like this was basically a drama about the friendship of 4 young women and a little girl 🥹🥹🥹 All the company stuff also happened but basically it was all just a side story or a tool to bring these women together. Thats how I interpret it! 😂😂😂
It was definitely one of the best dramas this year so far. I give it a 9/10. The only thing that bugged me a bit was that some plot lines about the company got too specific and complicated, for example that one part when they are trying to trick Albert’s father with some old bills in Myeongdong??? What was all that about??? I seriously didn’t understand even a bit of that 😂😂😂
I was also sad that Albert and Miss Hong didn’t end up together!!! I need to stalk this actor now because he is hella fine!!!! His lips and his voice omg!!!! 😍😍😍I wanted to see more of him!
I also wanna see more of the actress that played Kang Nora! She was amazing as well as her mom!!! Loved these so much!!! Such an amazing drama about women power!!!! Love love love it!!!! Who run the world?

Fun and Nostalgic

There’s been a lot of garbage kdrama released in the last year especially under the guise of ‘romcom’ but this was a pleasant surprise. Very watchable, especially the first 7 episodes. Park Shinhye has been great since The Judge From Hell and similarly here too. Her character is strong and funny and doesn’t take shit from anyone. Very reminiscent of the 2014-18 kdramas, so I enjoyed it, despite some parts dragging a lot and some storylines becoming repetitive. I liked that the villains were actually quite stupid so I was not that stressed out that they’d get away with their crimes. Overall it was fun and I did not cringe that much which is a huge feat for recent kdramas.
