Not Your Ordinary Neighbors

I am always 1 day late for the intended episodes and thank God I found a platform that delivers with English Sub. The description of the drama given here is just the tip of the iceberg.
When I started watching it, I didn't know it is this violent. I don't know how they rate viewership. The fight scenes may be needed, and at least not prolonged.

The Story
As any start of a drama, the first episode is like introducing us little by little to each character. The explosions happening were random and somewhat the reasons behind them are still being figured out by the main characters. At first, we may think that these neighbors are ordinary merchants or working people, but they do have special abilities, when together can fight the enemies.
No story would be juicy without the dangers they face.
I am at episode 7 as of this writing and still figuring out the relation of Sullivan to the Minister of National Defense and the bombing. Will get back to this review and edit it as soon as I finished episode 10.

The Actors
I love Kye Sang since I watched Chocolate and much more when I learned that he began his career in g.o.d. He was way too serious in Chocolate, but here, we can see his goofy side which he shows when he is with his g.o.d. group. His character is one that you would not want to mess around with. I wonder if his wife knew of his past or he really hid it from her. I also wonder if his wife has a secret of her own. I also wonder if the town enemy are trying to get him, the reason for bombing?
Then you have Seon Kyu playing the part of Byeong Nam. You may think he is just this suspicious leader of the neighborhood, but we find him to be a good friend to Choi.
Nam Yon played by Ji Hyun is one cool wife and mom. I just find her quite different from many moms who like to tell stories, and it is the men who are more secretive. We may think of her as a store owner, but when it comes to defense, you can count on her.
Soon the gang became bigger as each one were affected by the death of one of their neighbors. They are not your ordinary neighbors. They may be nosy, investigative or talkative, but they love their town and would go the extra mile even if it endangers them.
I just wonder, do we still see this kind of concern in our own community?

Three more episodes to go. Let us see if this needs a season 2 or everything will be resolved by Episode. 10.

Ordinary Neighbors, Unexpected Heroes

So this drama is basically about a bunch of ordinary neighbors (and you will realize after some episodes they are not) who suddenly decide to take on a ridiculously powerful government body — and honestly, that setup alone is wild enough to make you curious. Acting-wise, everyone delivers. You’ll see supportive husbands and wives, brave residents who decide to protect their own when no one else will, and some genuinely heartwarming moments between parents and their kids.
But if you’re expecting a slow-burn love story… sorry, not happening here. 😂 Everyone is already married, so the romance meter is pretty much flat. This one focuses more on unity, community power, and that “we’re all in this together” vibe.
The idea behind the story is great, though I couldn’t fully relate to all parts of it. The music is minimal, but there are some fun action scenes to keep things moving. Plus, the drama surprisingly throws in humor at just the right moments — it’s not a comedy, but it does make you smile.
So if you want a no-romance, lightly funny, action-packed drama with a strong community feel, then Heroes Next Door might just be your pick.
