Sold Out on You completely sold on this drama

I honestly felt forced to write a review because barely anyone is talking about this drama, and it genuinely deserves so much more attention.

What immediately stands out is the natural chemistry between the two leads. Their dynamic feels effortless and well-balanced, as both are fully developed individuals with their own ambitions and personal struggles. What makes their relationship compelling is how deeply they mirror each other’s unresolved pain. They share the same emotional wounds, long suppressed, and being together inevitably brings those buried feelings back to the surface. This creates a bond that is both intimate and painful, as they don’t just fall for each other .they recognize themselves in one another.

Their similarities naturally intensify their connection, especially as their professional collaboration continuously strengthens their bond while reopening old emotional wounds. The ML’s admiration for the female lead is particularly meaningful; he respects her dedication and perfectionism instead of criticizing them, unlike in her Ex. They recognize in each other the same discipline, emotional depth, and relentless workaholic tendencies, both are fully immersed in their careers, which makes their dynamic feel authentic and layered. The FL is also highly relatable, as her perfectionism, self-sacrifice, and constant desire to improve feel deeply human rather than idealized. The workplace setting further enhances this realism, grounding the story in everyday professional life. I also deeply appreciate the quality of the writing, which gives the characters and their relationships remarkable nuance and emotional authenticity.

I also genuinely don’t understand the hate toward the female lead. She’s one of the most relatable characters in the drama for me. Her perfectionism, her constant need to push herself, and the way she neglects her own well-being in order to give her best to others all feel painfully human. She cares deeply about doing things right, not for money or recognition, but because she truly values her work, and that’s exactly why the ML respects her so much.

Tonally, the drama strikes a strong balance between humor and emotional depth. The countryside setting adds warmth and nostalgia, giving a refreshing atmosphere. While the story itself is not particularly groundbreaking, its execution makes familiar romcom tropes feel fresh, supported by subtle humor, clever references, and occasional fourth-wall nods. Beneath its light tone, the drama explores more serious themes such as burnout, emotional repression, and losing oneself in work and responsibility while forgetting the small joys of life. Another strong point is the pacing, which feels perfect throughout there are no dull moments, no dragging scenes, and you’re never bored.

The only real flaw for me is the unnecessary love triangle (yes Eric..), though it remains mostly minor.

Overall, this drama was such a pleasant surprise. I honestly expected a simple romcom slice-of-life, but it turned out to be far more meaningful than that. I genuinely loved it, it truly exceeded all my expectations in every way.

So Funny!

I haven’t been this hooked on a drama in a while. this drama is sooo funny and the music choices are top tier. If you’ve seen the latest episode you know what I’m talking about 😂

The chemistry with the leads seems so natural and the plot is pretty good for how funny the show is. I’m excited to see what the next few episodes will be like.

I appreciate that the show is subtly showing healthy ways to deal with difficult topics. It’s not toxic positivity but real life routines catered to someone.

Sold Out on Logic

The biggest struggle I had with this drama is that the writing fails to create a believable or likable premise for both the story and its characters. While I can usually suspend disbelief for rom-coms, the setting here just defies logic in a way that’s hard to overlook.

For anyone who’s worked in a big corporation or any industry, it’s impossible to believe that one person could make every decision on their own. Yet, the female lead somehow manages to be the spokesperson, seller, R&D, QA, procurement, customer service, and delivery person all at once—completely unrealistic. And who wears 4-inch strappy heel sandals to the countryside? Not only are they impractical, but they’re also out of place and far from trendy.

The leads are all frustratingly self-centered and self-destructive, acting as though the rules don’t apply to them. Even the male lead, despite his good intentions, justifies questionable actions as 'helping' the female lead or the villagers. The female lead takes it up a notch—she’s ten times more frustrating and, honestly, hard to root for. As for the supporting male lead, he feels flat and one-dimensional, with motivations that don’t add up.

Between the unrelatable characters, the illogical setting, and the lack of charm or emotional connection, it’s hard to find anything to enjoy or stay invested in.

Surprisingly poignant comedy series

My score may change as the series goes on, but I'm really in love with what I've seen.

The show so far is nicely structured (I love the repeat of the tractor vs car standoffs and the contrast of umbrella moments) as well as creatively and tastefully filmed/edited (the "daily routine" sequence in the first episode is excellently put together).

I'm a fan of "city person in the countryside" themes (e.g. Once Upon a Small Town, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, Love Take Two, Summer Strike, When the Weather is Fine, etc.), so I'm naturally biased toward this type of comedy. But what I really love is the way the show swerves between unhinged silliness and melancholic vulnerability.

I've seen some comments from people who find the sleepwalking/talking far-fetched, but my son sometimes has episodes very similar to hers, so I can assert that it's very believably portrayed. The details are great too, like her slow-blinking at Mechoori and bumping her head on doors.

Edit: I bumped up the rewatch score to 10/10 for two reasons: first, I'm having to force myself not to rewatch the first 4 episodes because I'm trying to finish other series; second, I'm presently addicted to YouTube clips of highlights and have watched certain key moments several dozen times.

아깝다

Honestly, I don’t even know what the exact problem is. I’ve watched seven episodes, but I haven't felt happy, romantic, or sad once. Watching it feels like a chore. In the beginning, I only tuned in because of Ahn Hyo-seop and Kim Bum, hoping that things would turn around and it would become enjoyable. But nothing changed. I just realized I’ve been constantly forcing myself, saying, 'Keep watching, it’ll get better, it has to be good...' But nope.
I’ve honestly started questioning why these actors accepted this script in the first place—especially Kim Bum. Bro, you are the Kim Bum. You are a cornerstone of the K-drama industry. You basically helped start the global K-drama wave, and an entire generation grew up watching you. How could you choose this role? What was the goal here?
Also, why is your character so head-over-heels for the female lead? She drew boundaries so quickly, and we barely see enough of their backstory to justify him liking her that much.
As for the female lead, it feels like she’s just reading lines off a page—zero emotion, zero feeling. I can’t feel any chemistry or love. Her character arc feels like: she burns out, leaves her broadcasting channel, and goes, 'Oh, look, a guy. Let me just fall for him since I have some free time now.' The actress has potential, so I really hope she improves.
The logistics don't make sense either. Mathieu lives in a village while she lives in the city, which is a two-hour drive away. She is portrayed as an incredibly busy workaholic who lives for her job, so there's no way her character would casually make that two-hour commute all the time.
At this point, I have zero interest. I don't even care what happens to the young girl in the mask—honestly, it's so predictable that I already know. It's the most cliché K-drama trope: they’ll fight, they'll feel responsible for the girl, she'll sleepwalk, and he'll find her. Cue the cliché couple moments. Nothing interesting. Even the shopping scenes are a total bore.
I give 1 point for music because of the one … I can’t describe this thing, I don’t want to use bad words.

I just loved it. Its my first time writing review about any drama but I am writing cause I thought it was necessary cuz many people are not posting positive reviews about it and they are saying that it didn't hit or it wasn't up to the mark. I was waiting and really excited for this drama but when I saw those reviews I nearly dropped my plan to watch it but when I watched it I found the absolute need to post about it. Its a10/10 for me till now may change my opinion later.

This drama is healing, and the warm cup of tea that I need while recovering from burnout.

General thoughts on the kdrama (so far, as of Episode 5, 5/6/26):

- This drama is not for everyone. I keep seeing comments that this show is muddled with plot holes, or that it's too slow, too dumb for the viewers' IQ, and thus, it's overall not worth watching. To all of this, I say: that's okay, you can drop it, you can stop watching. Exercise your free will!

- So then who is this drama for? It's for the people who have been "working until the work is done" (as Dam Ye Jin says near the end of the episode while talking to Mechoori, the very people who end up working themselves to the bone as a result. Even when work is something they are very passionate about and could talk about that passion for hours & hours, it is still work at the end of the day. Work should not be prioritized above one's health.

This drama is about depression, burnout, insomnia, trauma, pain, grief (yes, you can grieve even if someone does not pass away, any loss is a loss, especially betrayal of trust, betrayal of love, etc.), healing, learning, growing.... As of now, I'd put Sold Out on You in the same camp as When the Weather is Fine, Call It Love, Hometown Cha-cha-cha, Welcome to Samdalri, etc.

Constantly running on fumes in the productivity machine, the capitalistic grind, and the hustle culture in modern-day Seoul is not always the lifestyle for everyone. And the beautiful Deokpung village people ... These townfolk showcase another type of life to live, one with a pace very different from the city.

However, you cannot simply compare the two and say one is fast-paced and the other is slow. No, that would defeat the entire point. It's all about what they're working towards. For instance, Ye Jin's friend and colleague, Um Seong Mi, mentions that she works for a refreshing cold beer at the end of a long workday. Whereas Dam Ye Jin regularly pulls all-nighters, chugs coffee like it's water, and abuses psych & gastric reflux medications, overexerting herself & ultimately constantly thinking about work 24/7, perhaps to compensate for her feeling of guilt and trauma, which she has yet to fully unravel. So not all Seoul folk are alike.

I think this is one of the best dramas released this year so far. At first, I honestly did not expect it to be this good, but after watching a few episodes, it completely changed my opinion. Everything about the drama feels well-balanced, smooth, and natural. The storyline moves at a calm pace, yet it never becomes boring. Instead of forcing unnecessary twists or overdramatic scenes, the drama focuses on proper storytelling and character development, which makes it more enjoyable and realistic to watch.
So far, I can confidently say this drama exceeded my expectations. I started watching it casually without thinking much about it, but now I am genuinely excited for every new episode. If the drama continues at this level until the end, it can easily become one of the best dramas of the year. Overall, the acting, cast, smooth storyline, and emotional atmosphere make it a truly enjoyable and memorable drama.

“Comforting, Funny and Worth Watching”

I started this drama without expecting much, but I’m really enjoying it so far. The story feels simple, nice, and easy to follow, which makes it very comfortable to watch in my free time. It also has some fun and lighthearted moments that keep it interesting without feeling boring. I always find myself waiting for the next episode with excitement. This is my first time watching Ahn Hyo Seop, and I genuinely like his acting. He looks very handsome on screen and fits his role perfectly. Overall, I’m enjoying this drama a lot and for me it’s a solid 10/10 so far.
