Dark romance set in the republic era of China. It has the ingredients of a classic slap-kiss, that was indeed very well done in the Vertical Drama format. Revenge, hatred, second chance at love, secret child, sorching hot passion & jealousy. Angst in its darkest form, the Marshal Male Hero hates to love his child-hood sweetheart whose father caused the execution of 13 of his family members. His forbidden love that was in a arranged engagement with his uncle. But alas he loved her in such a sorching burning way that it was self-destructive...and to not hurt her in his anger, he repeatedly hurt himself bodily, while also enslaving her in a torment of humiliation in the status as his mistress/plaything. But while his words hurt, his eyes spoke of unhidden desire and yearning for her love. It was so hard to watch these two in a clashing force of fire against each other, these destined lovers.Ben Wang`s best role in my opinion. He is so dark and tortured, in constant grief and torment. Miserable in loving a woman he is not supposed to love, but whom he cannot tear his heart away from.The way he constantly gazed at her..touched her.His raging passion & jealousy,oh yeah!!! He is a magnificent force of a creature, alpha male in his right. Ready to challenge anything and anyone in order to possess his beloved. He never could let her go even when she begged him to.

Feels like eating bland curry.
I love Bai Yan and Wang Haozhen as actor and put my high expectation on this drama. I like dark romance and republican theme. i thought the formula is being there but turns out it was so-so for my liking.Plot is generic formula. ML and FL was in love. FL seeing ML executed her 13 families and feeling heart broken. FL is disappeared while secretly pregnant. They met again while FL do arrange marriage meeting by her uncle. Family war between FL and ML make them fall apart. ML wants to win FL back by any means.
The kisses was indeed hot but still lack of chemistry and FL is being doormat character just want to make me sigh. She didn't do any revenge to spare her murdered family just being self-centered and didn't really care for her child due her neglience. ML is doing his best by portraying broken yandere character but still didn't make me like this drama.
Not really recommended unless you are respective actor fans.
