Cute!

Watched on iqiyi under the title "How Dare You?!"
This was a cute one! Even though it was a short drama, the characters were 3 dimensional, the plot was interesting, and it was a lot of fun to watch. The new drama has finished filming and looks even better. I can't wait!

Clever and fun for most of the story.

(I rate vertical micro dramas on their own sliding scale). General spoilers only.
I'd give the first 2hrs 10 mins a 9/10 and the last 30mins a 4/10. So... 8/10 overall because I think the majority of it is still worth watching as it's more clever than many vertical historical plots. Also nice to have a solid happy ending for a transmigration story; that's rare!

Consistently very good until the last 30mins (2 hrs 40 min total). Then everything was tied up so quickly and a bit ridiculously, the well-crafted tension dissipated, and the final culmination of the romance wasn't as satisfying as it could have been, in my opinion.

Too bad because the first 2 hours is full of smart people making smart plans. Plenty of mini triumphs for the good guys but still needing to navigate challenges because the bad guys were smart too. It was awesome how the lead couple worked as a team, with both of them coming up with ideas, but mainly the FL. And the ML obviously respected and admired her for her cleverness, and also for her kind heart. It was a slow burn romance and secondary to the plot, but the magnetism was always there. A couple lip presses with small movements near the end.

Some lightheartedness throughout nicely balanced with more serious moments. I liked that the FL was NOT infallable, and would have her moments of weakness and doubt, but ultimately was determined to not give up. She was easy to root for.

Second couple stole the show.

I was glad when He Congrui-Liu Nian and Zhong Zheng- Jia Yixuan would collab in short drama version of How dare you.

The Plot is about FL who transmigrate into book to become concubine. She found ML who supposed to become cruel emperor was actually time traveller. The Both found SFL also time travelled too. Only SML are original character in the story.

The plot is about main couple focused. We never denied He Congrui-Liu Nian has the chemistry but Liu Nian needs to get proper acting since most of her character almost same like previous drama. Jia Yixuan stole the show by seducing SML into her lover but SML is not good as written on book. Zhong Zheng is good at playing antagonist in these scene. I was about to ship the second couple.

The ending is open ending since there is many thing to need more explanation. The ending scene shows it that much.

It Grew on Me … But Not Enough

I’m sorry, folks, but this just wasn’t my cup of tea. I’m also watching the donghua and reading the novel, both of which I’m really engaged in. However, I struggled with this micro-drama and dropped it last year. After giving it another go this time around, I noticed it grew on me the longer I watched.

I think the basic storyline is interesting, and some of the details were funny or ridiculous—even unique to transmigration or “sucked-into-a-book” narratives. The ending reveal was also nicely executed and would have been gripping, putting the whole drama on its head, had I not already been spoiled. Unfortunately, though, the overall delivery and the silly banter just didn’t land for me.

A GCSE Drama Project with an Unlimited Budget

If you’re coming from the strategic brilliance and high-stakes tension of The Prisoner of Beauty, prepare yourself for a massive case of tonal whiplash. I desperately wanted to like this—the lead actors are charming, and the production values are surprisingly polished—but no amount of pretty costumes can mask what is fundamentally a rotten, logic-free script.
The show is a complete parody of itself, yet it lacks the self-awareness to actually be clever. We are served a relentless cycle of "misery porn" where the Emperor and Empress spend thirty episodes being passive door mats. The power dynamic is frankly ridiculous; watching an Emperor act like a helpless puppet while the Empress Dowager and Prince Duan treat the palace like their own personal playground is route-one nonsense.
The writing is strictly GCSE-level. Villains like Prince Duan don't win through tactical genius; they win through "teleportation" logic and literal plot armour. He can stroll into the inner palace for a chat whenever he fancies it, yet the moment our leads try to show an ounce of spine, they’re shackled by "filial piety" or "system" rules that only seem to apply to the heroes.
Then there is the insufferable "pandering." Watching the Female Lead "kiss the arse" of the villainous consort—a character who is a pouty, spoiled brat with a body count—is bizarre. The show tries to hide behind the meta-excuse that she’s "not a real person" to justify the FL acting like a spineless nanny. It completely kills any sense of immersion or stakes.
Even the finale is a shambles. After all the treachery and attempted murders, the wicked consorts are handed "happy endings" and travel funds like they’re off on a girls' holiday, rather than a one-way trip to the executioner. It wraps up with a forced "women’s empowerment" speech at a burial site that feels like a LinkedIn seminar dropped into a massacre.
I’ve given it 3.5 stars solely because the actors did their best with the absolute drivel they were handed. If you enjoy watching a show at 2x speed just to see the "Checkmate" (which is ultimately unsatisfying), then go ahead. Otherwise, don't let the high production values fool you—this is brainless drama at its most frustrating.
