I finished it only for Namkoong Min because the story was so frustrating even though it started so good. To some point I had to finish the episodes in parts because the cops were so annoying with their incompetence and Seyun being constantly in danger, even at the end when Manhui confessed they caught him just because Taeju threatened him not because the cops did a good job. Also when Taeju was suspected of kidnapping his wife and planning her murder they were pursuing him so intensely but when they knew Manhui was responsible for the kidnapping(to some point) and they even knew his face there was no pursuit of him and he could just walk freely and even approach the hospital with such an ease. What’s more, the scene in which the lights were off at the station pissed me off so much even though Taeju escaping was fun to watch but police stations have units to avoid such situations. an underrated thiller worth watching
I was skeptical about starting this drama because the ratings are so low and most reviews are negative. I'm glad I ignored them and gave it a chance.Namkoong Min delivers yet another stellar performance as Kang Tae-ju, a neurosurgeon trapped in a hollow marriage with Go Se-yoon (Lee Seol), his wife. After a tragedy, their relationship becomes nothing but empty shells—two people sharing a house, not a life. Watching Tae-ju constantly take the blame and get trampled by his in-laws was genuinely heartbreaking.
The villain is well portrayed truly memorable, and the cast as a whole nails their roles. Every episode peels back another layer of the marriage, slowly revealing how they reached this painful point. I found myself eagerly clicking "next episode" each time.
Is it flawless? No. There are plot holes, and the police are hilariously incompetent—probably the worst I've seen in any drama. But despite its flaws, this drama is far better than its low score suggests. It didn't deserve to be trashed. If you're willing to overlook a few weaknesses, it's a solid and emotionally gripping watch.

The thrilling completion of a marriage
It gets you hooked from the get go! So many plot twist and an ending you do not see coming. I really enjoyed it, as always, Nam Goong Min killed it in his role. To me, the pace was right to, they are no boring episode. The more the story goes on, the more you question everything, even when you try to guess who really did it, you can't guess it. Kudos to the villains too. They were despicable til the end, lol. If you want some romance, skip it. Even though we actually have a loving husband ready to go to crazy length to save his wife, the focus is not on this side of their relationship. And to me, it's not a bad thing. The way the couple is does not call for lovey-dovey scenes. It wouldn't fit the show.Definitely recommend to watch if you enjoy thriller and/or Nam Goong Min acting. ^^

disappointed
Despite a strong start in episode 1 & 2, giving us an introduction to the lead couple and their relationship and kidnapping, the next 4 - 5 episodes were a bit difficult to stay focused.Whether the director intended to portray the lead couple with a flat and distant chemistry I’m not sure but to me they never seemed to be a plausible couple that were once in love with a strong partnership who are now dealing with marital problems. However the tension in their marriage was evident. A lot of the scenes were slow and short focusing mainly on past and current conflicts in the hospital workplace and dealing with the kidnapping. It was if we were given short glimpses rather than the story unfolding. Some of it didn’t flow logically.
There were a few holes in the story line / direction. The most annoying one being the police, even when they knew what the kidnapper looked like, didn’t seem to be out chasing him. The uncovering of the who and the reason behind the kidnapping wasn’t done by police only Dr Kang.
The storyline is compelling and the acting superb. Kim Dae Mung is one scary evil man and manic. Namkoong Min (The Husband) is brilliant deadpan face - Slowly watching and observing. Lee Seol was also very convincing as the kidnapped wife but her support for Kang Tae Ju after the kidnapping didn’t fit with the backstory and character (spoilt rich daddy’s girl) revealed.
I thought the true mastermind behind the kidnapping was obvious right from the beginning. But was wrong he was only an accomplice. The real evil mastermind besides the rogue psychotic kidnapper isn’t apparent until episode 11. Maybe it is the fact that K Dramas keep repeating the same old troupes that many will fail into the trap of jumping to early conclusions.
The backstory of the couple (Dr Kang Tae Ju and Dr Ko Se Yun) was explained slowly with full detail kept until episode 11. The backstory of other characters was revealed later in episode 9 plus and somewhat lacking this for me made watching the drama frustrating. This meant that the motives behind the supporting characters (apart from the obvious greed) didn’t explain the level of violence and brutality or even justify the kidnapping. The criminals were absolutely psychotic and the conspiracy and the masterminds were overdone. Support characters (in the hospital) with suggestive attraction and petty jealousy didn’t add to the suspense. The police were predictably incompetent.
While the story and action did move at a reasonable pace after episode 8, excessive time was spent on repeated memory flash backs. The middle episodes especially were slow and repetitive. The connection between the mastermind and accomplices was unclear until episode 9, by which time I was tired of the repeat conflict between criminals and Dr Kang Tae Ju. These additional interactions and poorly judged actions by Dr Kang just drew out a story that was getting old and boring.
The drama could have been 10 episodes and enjoyable without repetition of mistakes, lack of judgement and repeated mistakes, a tighter script, and less people being unnecessarily part of the background conspiracy.

Poker-faced ML acting as a pshychopatic dickhead and a spoiled brat FL - and AMAZING villains
Oh someone in another drama said that this drama has a ROMANCE TAG. THAT IS A SCAM! there is no romance here!!!The Husband was so sterile empty, there wasnt even a relationship between husband and wife, he was her eununch bodyguard and she was the client he protected. THere was NO FEELINGS whatsoever. Well I am exaggerating... there was like 2 minutes in all 12 episodes, only 2 short scenes where she cares for him while he has a cement face, and 3 seconds in the very last episode where they barely smile at each other. THAT DRAMA WAS A ROMANTIC DISASTER
Even when they meet again they are like two strangers accidentally bumping into each other at a subway stop. That entire drama showed such isolated people, it was icy cold and frustrating to watch
THE HUSBAND, IE THE ML, BEHAVED AS A PSYCHOPATIC DICKHEAD. He is poker-faced from start to end, with a few subtle expressions here and there. Like SML, the main villain in kdrama Lucifer. VERY INAPPROPRIATE FOR A ROLE OF A DOCTOR
The drama is worth watching for the villains. The 3 major villains are amazing!!!!! The serial killer husband is a lot better more affectionate husband than ML, and his poker face psycopathy is appropriate and very creepy
The mastermind villain is also a masterful actor here

I think this drama completely misunderstands the difference between a complex character and an unbelievable one.My problem isn't that the male lead suffers too much. My problem is that the writers are trying to make him every possible thing at the same time. He's a victim, a villain, a grieving father, a loving husband, a terrible husband, a respected doctor, a criminal, a fugitive, and somehow still the person we're supposed to root for.
His child dies. He drunkenly wishes his wife would die. He appears to be having or had an affair with another doctor. He steals from his in-laws. He's on the run from the police. A cop dies in front of him. Then he and his friend literally fire a shotgun at a police officer.
At some point I stopped seeing a human being and started seeing writers throwing random misery and controversy at a character to keep viewers talking.
The police are somehow even worse. They spend episode after episode talking, theorizing, gossiping and accomplishing almost nothing. They can't find the wife. They can't catch the husband. They seem more interested in discussions than actual investigations. For a supposedly serious thriller, the police work feels embarrassingly incompetent.
The villain is decent, but even that storyline starts dragging. The more the show goes on, the more it feels like events happen because the plot needs them to happen, not because the characters naturally drive the story.
What disappoints me most is Namkoong Min himself. Not because he's bad—he's actually doing his best with the material. The problem is that the writers have given him an impossible job. They want him to be guilty and innocent, sympathetic and disgusting, broken and emotionless, victim and villain all at once.
A real person can be contradictory, but the writing never makes those contradictions feel believable. Instead, it feels like the character changes depending on what the current episode needs.
I keep seeing people defend the character because they love Namkoong Min. But that's exactly the issue for me. I shouldn't be watching Namkoong Min trying to save a poorly written character. I should be watching the character and forgetting the actor exists.
Instead, all I can see is Namkoong Min carrying a script that doesn't know what it wants its protagonist to be.
By Episode 5, I no longer cared who kidnapped the wife. I no longer cared about the mystery. I was just wondering what ridiculous tragedy or personality change the writers would throw at the male lead next.
A good thriller makes me believe in its characters.
The Husband made me believe the writers were making things up as they went along.

Decent Story but filled with loopholes and absurdity
The storyline of a husband going to extreme lengths to save his wife is good on paper but unfortunately putting it in action is where they messed up. This is one of those dramas where common sense is missing from the world, the same old generic leads with misunderstandings, with you might even end up hating FL in the initial episodes, the cops are generic for most of the drama and it does gets frustrating to watch just how idiotic and brainless they are shown. Take away ML going scorched earth against all odds to find his wife, there isn't much left in the drama to make it engaging.The actors have done a decent job with roles both the good and the bad ones. The actor playing the role of psycho for me isn't exactly hitting the mark, he looks crazy just not that terrifying that would give me chills. ML for most part is stone faced which actually get on my nerves at times, when it comes to pulling of complex emotions he fails to do so. FL kind of starts as obnoxius and toxic, though we do see some character development.
It is a one time watch and if you ignore all the stupidity you may find it decent.

don't judge until u watch last ep
i was anticipated very much in this drama at starting , after 2 eps i came to read reviews and i didn't like this drama cuz they revealed the villain so i kept postponing it . today the final ep released so i give it a watch and guess what the story is good it do contain plot rather than i watched in 2nd ep . now i totally liked it how every cast got involved in that plot but the only thing ii didn't like is they ended up divorcing thought they gonna patch up and solve every issue btw them but nahhh they divoeced which made me a little upset cuz i've it's all abt them being getting misunderstood so at last wished they solved and lived together but director got another plans and yes that's it .Was this review helpful to you?

Fell flat fast
The premise of the story sounded interesting at first. Unfortunately, after watching the whole series, the flaws became more evident.I love Namkoong Min but this was definitely not one of his great dramas. For the first few episodes, I was riveted and curious as to why the kidnapping happened. It looked like Nam was the likely mastermind, but then came a twist about how this same modus happened before to a former detective. This was the part that just added several unnecessary episodes to the story.
If you have finished this series as well, you would likely agree that that could have been removed and saved the production some budget...
If I were to describe this, I would say it was a messy drama....

A WASTE OF A GOOD STORY
This story had potential but the execution & writing was a disaster. The directing was trash, especially with the police officers, they looked lost.Even with solid actors, the performances were mid, NamKoong included.
The villain? Total flop. I was excited to see a good‑guy actor flip to villain, but he couldn’t carry it.
Out of 12 episodes, only 4 were worth watching. Honestly, the director needs a long hiatus for wasting good talent.
And can we normalize characters actually dying in dramas? Not everyone needs plot armor to survive 😭. Honestly, it could’ve passed as a decent movie instead of dragging itself out as a drama!!

It's slow and flat. Acting was mediocre. Unrealistic scenarios. The wife escapes and just happens to get in a vehicle driven by the kidnapper's accomplice? Seriously? The leads immediately caught my attention. Their interactions feel restrained yet emotionally charged, making it impossible not to wonder what happened before the story began. Rather than forcing romance, the drama allows curiosity and uncertainty to drive the narrative.
The cinematography deserves praise as well. The muted colors and deliberate pacing create a melancholic mood that perfectly matches the emotional weight of the story. It feels less like a typical romance and more like the beginning of a psychological and emotional journey.
While the first episode doesn't answer many questions, that's exactly what makes it so effective. It trusts the audience to be patient, rewarding them with intriguing character dynamics and a strong emotional foundation for what's to come.
If the rest of the series maintains this level of writing and atmosphere, The Husband has the potential to become a truly memorable drama. As a premiere, it succeeds in doing the most important thing: making me eager for the next episode.
