Short drama=no fillers.

The rating is based on the entertainment I had with this short cdrama. Our FL is in search of her "jade gentleman," but her time is running out. She ends up making the ML her jade gentleman. It has the usual "I'm searching for the guy who saved me 12 years ago" trope. The script, for sure, has some illogical choices at times (I'll explain more in the spoiler section). The cinematography in some scenes was so beautiful! I would say the fl character carried most of this. If you are looking for a low-expectations option and want to pass the time, this is one of the best choices. Just don't think too hard about the logic.

Spoilers:
This is in the first ep, so it's not a spoiler. The ml has a lot of hate for the people of the fl, a man goes missing, and the soldiers who were with him(one of them) tells the ml that one of the guy got kidnapped by this mysterious demon. It's illogical for the ml to go alone. Like you know, they are dangerous and you went alone? Why would you risk it?
The whole poison thing of how to become a jade demon doesn't really make sense. You heard about it randomly and then asked the general if you could do it? Where did she find it? My point here is: for a poison like that to exist, people would have taken greater advantage of it.
After 3/4 it starts to go a bit downhill. Got a bit bored, skipped a lot from the past 4 eps.
Also, the random second male lead who was added at some point?
What i loved:
The female lead. She carried. One of my favourite things she did was when she learned that the ml couldn't see colours, and tried to show him as many colours as possible.(Let me give you some context in case you're reading this, deciding if you should watch. Basically, the FL knows a cure to heal his eyesight and make him able to see colors. Let's say it kinda works, but he can only see colors on HER.) That episode was probably my favourite.
The fact that the crown prince and male lead made up.
I like how the ml respects fl choice of staying with her family.
The girl with the medical knowledge was definitely the best character for me.
She so cool! And the way she was styled made her so bright and beautiful.
I wish other dramas started to style female leads like our own fl. She is so lovable!
Her two little accessories on her forehead were so cute!

Fast (and sometimes too fast) paced and Fun minidrama

Subjective Gut Rating: 7.75

It’s kinda sad to see Zheng Ye Cheng in a minidrama. He’s been around for a long time and his acting is pretty good. But he’s unable to reach the popularity that he deserves. Luckily, it appears he has a few big budget productions on deck.

Without a doubt “Seeds of Scarlet Longing” is a low budget drama. The sets, cinematography, dubbing and a no-name supporting cast all demonstrated that fact. Luckily, the drama is led by two great actors in Zheng Ye Cheng and Zhao Qing. They both really carry the show on their shoulders and run with it.

Zhao Qing plays a very likable female lead, Liang Jiang Zhu. Zhiang Zhu is adorable and innocent, yet smart and not too naive. It’s so easy for me to find such a character annoying, but I don’t. She’s really fun to watch. Zheng Ye Cheng plays a serious and cool Shen Miu, and his acting is great. The two of them have great chemistry and many fun scenes together.

I enjoy the first half of the drama a lot. The pacing is good and the story is fun. Dual cultivation (wink wink) is the talk of town and central to the first half of the drama. We have quite a few kisses (not amazing or horrible). Unfortunately, the second half loses steam a little. This is when it is very obvious that this is a minidrama. The plot becomes more political, yet there’s not enough time to properly execute. Everything feels really rushed and some scenes are missing, or edited weirdly, or just plain skipped. It’s very unfortunate as I was about to give this drama a solid 8.0 before the last ¼ of the drama moves at lightning speed.

Nevertheless, “Seeds of Scarlet Longing” is a short, fast-paced and fun drama. I don’t think I’ve wasted time as I needed a palate cleanser amongst all the toxic and red flags I’ve been watching. I like Zheng Ye Cheng and Zhao Qing’s performances enough to give this drama a 7.5-7.75.

Fantasy short dramas tend to be bad for the fact that they are a short drama.

While Seeds of Scarlet Longing is not completely full on fantasy, it has fantasy elements that because of the format, aren't explored enough. And it falls short because of it in almost every aspect. The plot feels rushed towards the end and none of the themes the drama tries to explore is fully developed. But overall, it was simply enjoyable.

The first half is very promising, it's cute and the acting is on point, specially the leads and second male lead. Female lead is very lovable to me, you can understand easily the male lead and the second lead is very interesting. I think the second female lead is a little bit weak, but she's a new actress, so I think she did well, I just wished her character had a little more depth. The villains also needed a little bit more depth. The romance between the leads was also ON POINT. The relationship between uncle and nephew was amazing, the female friendship power! Overall, the dinamics and acting really saved the drama for me.

The dinamics, styling and cinematography were also great! And I'm just being petty but the male character's wig was so visible, wish they tried to conceal it more. But Zhao Qing and Deng Xiaoci's styling is top tier overall!

Now, the drama falls apart the moment it tries to resolve the issues, because it's very caricature-like. They simply talk to the people and the people understand that they are wrong. The fact that the Jadelings trick men to live with them is also never ever acknowledged and the conflict is resolved so easily that it just falls flat. That's why I truly think, that maybe if it was a longer drama, maybe the writers would have put a little more effort into the conflict and themes within the drama.

Despite that, the ending was very satisfying, specially for the female characters, who chose themselves and their freedom.

✨Scooby-Doo Gang, Swoon Lines & Suspicious Poison — I Had Fun✨

This turned out to be a surprisingly fun watch, not gonna lie.

The visuals? Pretty. The soundtrack? Slightly recycled, but still doing its job. The plot and characters? Somehow had me locked in before I even realized it.
The story starts off a bit… questionable (you will raise an eyebrow or two), but if you just go with it, it becomes genuinely entertaining. It’s one of those dramas where you don’t overthink — you just vibe.

The FL is super easy to love — sweet, a little naive, but not in a frustrating way. Just a total cutie that you naturally root for.
The ML… took me a minute. I wasn’t sold at first, but he grew on me. And when he did — oh, he delivered. His love turns soft and gentle, and the man dropped some swoon-worthy lines, I’ll give him that. Their chemistry is comfortable and cute, and the romance is actually very tender and lovely. We get proper kisses from episode 11 👀 and decent skinship throughout.

Now… the Gu poison plotline? Yeah. Not my favorite. It just didn’t fully click for me. Also, lowkey it felt like I was watching the Butterflied Lover origin story, but maybe that’s just me spiraling.

The second leads? Honestly, a highlight.
The SFL is an absolute gem — kind, mature, and refreshingly drama-free. No petty jealousy, no unnecessary rivalry — just wholesome female friendship vibes, which we LOVE to see.
And the SML? I’ve been sold on him since LITC, and once again — he ate. Whether he’s being a menace or a ride-or-die homie, he delivers.

We also get the whole squad teaming up like a historical Scooby-Doo gang, which was unexpectedly wholesome.
As for the “evil emperor”… yeah, okay. Groundbreaking. Let me act surprised.

Of course, it comes with classic short-drama struggles: rushed pacing, overused tropes (you saved me as a child so now I owe you my entire existence), a sprinkle of amnesia, random love triangle energy… and a bit of clownery around episodes 16–17.
The final stretch loses some suspense and drags a little, but it’s nothing deal-breaking.

We do get a happy ending for the main couple (bless), and a more open ending for the second leads — which, honestly, I didn’t mind. The SFL might’ve been my favorite character overall.

If you go in with an open mind and don’t expect a masterpiece, this is actually a really enjoyable watch.
I had way more fun than I expected — especially compared to some “big” dramas lately.
Only complaint? MGTV subtitles… why are you like this 😭 Full screen = no subtitles?? Be serious.

Female lead's costume is really pretty

Besides the female lead being really nice to look at (lol), it's a pretty standard web drama so there's going to be space for improvement. But it's pretty simple to follow along and easy to watch and short, so there isn't too much to complain about. The female lead acted out her role perfectly: very cute and loveable. The male lead was very solid. These two could easily do a standard drama together.

A Few Sensual Scenes and Nothing More: A Disconnected Drama in Search of a Story

Shallow and nonsensical, the story is full of plot holes and provides little background for the characters. It feels like a plot meant for a longer series that was cut short, leaving disconnected scenes that fail to form a cohesive narrative. While the female lead is lovely and the scenes are colourful, there is no substance, and the early episodes rely mostly on sensuality for entertainment. The first part of the drama centers on a full-moon ritual, tastefully filmed, not explicit or nude, but it often feels like that is all the drama has to offer; without these scenes, there is really nothing else to see. From episode 15 onward, the drama abandons its sensual allure for past conflicts that feel hollow, rushed, and embarrassing.

It kind of loses steam, but the chemistry between the two lead couples keeps you watching

Seeds of Scarlet Longing, I’m gonna be honest, it started off really strong for me. Visually it’s beautiful. The cinematography, the cast, the costuming… everything just looks really rich. It even has this kind of quasi-fantasy vibe to it that I really liked.

Now the story… mm. It doesn’t feel fully complete. We get a lot through flashbacks, and that’s usually not my favorite way to tell a story. It kind of takes you out of it a little bit.

But what I did love were the relationships. The male and female lead had really good chemistry, and even the second leads felt like they belonged together as well. For a while, I genuinely didn’t know what to think about the crown prince, like, is he good or bad? I’m glad he resolved things with his uncle though, because that could’ve gone a whole different way.

As the show went on, though… it kind of lost some of that energy. My excitement definitely wasn’t the same as it was in the beginning.

I will say I really love the male lead. I’ve seen him in a few dramas before, and he is just a really good actor. His performances never disappoint me, and I would love to see him in something longer. The female lead was good too. I last saw her in Scent of Time, and she looks completely different here. Her styling is so different that you would hardly believe it is the same person.

Overall, this drama is not complicated and it is not trying to be anything crazy. It just is what it is. It is a good, easy watch.

Simple, Sweet, and Entertaining

The story is simple, easy to follow, and very entertaining. It doesn't try to be overly complicated, which makes it a relaxing and enjoyable watch.

The main actress has a naturally youthful baby face, so her cute, playful, and childish expressions feel believable rather than forced. Her facial expressions match her character perfectly, making her charm feel genuine.

The second female lead is absolutely beautiful and also left a strong impression on me.

I especially enjoyed both the first and second couples. Their stories were engaging, and I found myself looking forward to their scenes throughout the drama.

The cast was well chosen, and each actor suited their role perfectly

Cute FL Done Right!

I always thought I didn't like cute FLs, but it turns out I just didn't like childish, clumsy, naive FLs. The FL here was so so cute, but also strong, mature and flirty! And the actress did such a good job, considering she also plays more serious characters in other dramas.

The love spell set up was interesting, and the second couple's story was nice, too.

Enjoyable Short Drama

I enjoyed this short drama and thought it was one of the better ones I've watched. The female lead was presented as very childish but she was "almost 18". With that age, the story was still very sexualized as they were jade waste demons who had to "be" with their chosen man that they give a love worm too on every full moon. There was good chemistry and implied intimacy but infact they didn't even kiss a lot. Just very close proximity and hand holding. Overall, I enjoyed the story and acting. However the Mango TV English sub translation was really bad. If you are looking for an entertaining shirt drama with some good chemistry, check it out. But, be prepared ahead supposed to be young. However, I didn't feel like the actual age of the actors were a problem. Enjoy!
