This Had Me Laughing, Swooning, and Screaming

I honestly didn’t expect to get this invested, but Revenged Love pulled me in right from the start and never let go.
I don’t even know where to start because this drama was just… pure chaos wrapped in sweetness and sprinkled with moments that hit me right in the feels.

The story blends humor, petty revenge, and heartfelt moments so well that I was either laughing at the ridiculousness or clutching my heart because of the emotions. Chi Cheng and Suo Wei’s relationship was easily the highlight for me, the bickering, the shameless flirting, the jealous glares, and those random “married couple” moments were so addictive. Their dynamic had that perfect mix of chaos and comfort.

The second couple, Xiao Shuai and Guo Cheng Yu, was on the softer side, and I did enjoy them—especially those little quiet, warm moments. But that awkward, dry kiss? Yeah… not gonna lie, I wanted a bit more fire there. Still, they were cute in their own way. Oh, and while I loved Doc as a character on his own, I just couldn’t vibe with him in any romantic scene. And Cheng Yu… this man was such a green flag—loved him!

Wang Shuo was pure entertainment from start to finish.
And then there’s the snake subplot (yes, the snake was basically a side character).

Pacing-wise, it was consistently engaging, and the chemistry between the cast carried every scene.

Yes, this drama has flaws. The dubbing? Sometimes questionable. Lip sync? Off in a few scenes. Editing? Could’ve been smoother. And don’t even get me started on the underdeveloped side plotlines (seriously, don’t ask me what exactly those snake business scenes were about—I still don’t know). Of course, the gang r@pe thing in ep 1 was unnecessary and could’ve been handled differently in a less disturbing way—it’s the one thing that really bothered me.
But here’s the thing—despite all of that, I didn’t really care. I just LOVED it. I laughed, smiled, and even got a little emotional at times.

Overall, despite its flaws and questionable choices here and there, Revenged Love gave me an insane amount of butterflies. It’s one of those dramas where logic occasionally takes a backseat, but the characters, chemistry, and sheer entertainment value make you not care at all. I was hooked from the first episode, rode the rollercoaster of chaos and sweetness all the way through, and honestly enjoyed every second of it. Definitely not perfect, but absolutely worth the watch for the feels and the fun.

ITS TIME TO LET GO, BUT...

Imagine your ex leaves you for a wealthy man, and you believe the two of them are mocking you for being poor. At first, you plan revenge. But then, something unexpected happens—you start falling for the very man you once saw as your rival.

Revenged Love, also known as Counter Attack, is a Chinese BL drama adapted from Chai Jidan’s web novel.

The story mainly follows two couples. The first couple is Zi Yu as Wu Qi Qiong (also known as Wu Su Wei), a poor young man who is heartbroken after his ex-girlfriend leaves him for a wealthy heir. Angry and humiliated, he plans to take revenge by targeting her new man. That man is Chi Cheng, played by Tian Xu Ning—a rich, arrogant heir with a love for snakes, who is even forced into marriage with Wu Su Wei’s ex. Wu Su Wei originally sees him as the enemy, but as their interactions grow, he never expected that Chi Cheng would also develop feelings for him. What begins as a revenge plot slowly turns into an intense, complicated romance between two.

The second couple adds more sweetness to the drama. Zhan Xuan plays Guo Cheng Yu, Chi Cheng’s loyal best friend. While chasing after Wu Su Wei at a clinic, he crosses paths with Jiang Xiao Shuai, portrayed by Liu Xuan Cheng. Their chance meeting blossoms into another love story, giving the series a lighter and more romantic balance alongside the main couple’s tension.

𝗢𝗦𝗧
One thing that really stood out to me is the OST. This is actually the first time I created a playlist on my YouTube Music just for a drama soundtrack. Every song feels meaningful and emotional, and I enjoy playing it every day. The music really captures both the tension and the softer moments of the story.

𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗧
This is the first BL I finished this year and honestly it surprised me. I tried watching some Thai BLs but couldn’t complete them because they didn’t meet my standards, yet with Revenged Love I didn’t even hesitate. Normally I need to check clips first before committing, but this time I just pressed play without thinking twice. Some people called it cringe, but for me it wasn’t cringe at all, not even once, and I enjoyed every episode.

At first I thought it would be just another BL, short and rushed, maybe fun but nothing that would really stay with me. But Revenged Love proved me wrong. With 24 episodes, each over 40 minutes, it still managed to keep me watching until the very end, and the fact that I finished the whole thing in just 3 days shows how much it hooked me.

It wasn’t perfect of course. Some scenes felt choppy, the transitions were sudden, and sometimes it was obvious that parts had been cut, which pulled me out of the story when I really wanted to stay inside it.

Even so, I couldn’t stop watching. The characters, the chemistry, the emotions—they pulled me in again and again. When I reached the last episode and saw Chi Cheng’s parents finally accept them, I felt so warm inside, like everything had been worth it, but at the same time it felt too fast. I wanted more time with them, more moments of family, more happiness shared together. The ending left me smiling but also a little empty because I wasn’t ready to let them go.

Still, this drama made me laugh, ache, and care so much, and that’s why even with its flaws it gave me something truly special.

Overall Revenged Love may not be perfect, but it’s absolutely worth watching. It’s longer than most BLs, it carries real emotion, and it leaves a story that lingers even after it ends—and for me, I already miss them.

Will trigger strong reactions ......

Due to censorship laws Revenged Love is not officially airing on mainland Chinese platforms. Produced by Vision Moments Media Ltd., a registered production company based in Singapore, they have managed to circumvent this restriction and I am so glad they did.

I was turned off by the implied brutality in episode 1, however, I continued and I will be ever grateful I did. The relationship between the two male leads is like a masterclass of acting. their use of body language, micro expressions and tonality gave masterful and subtle acting skills. I became totally invested in this production. I stalked the BTS clips waiting for the next episode. I became super fearful China would step in and ban the series, I was also concerned at the invasive Chinese fans who stalked the two stars.

There are scenes that broke me. Hats off to the director and the reinterpretation of the original drama and story-line. There are flaws, of course but the pace and immersive experience pushed me along so that they didn't detract from my immense appreciation of this drama. Some scenes obviously tampered with to get through censorship and too many issues for this short drama to make sense of.

All is well and the series finished on a fairly mild note after the emotional wringer I was put through. This has raised the bar in BL, no damn it in drama per se.

I wish these two actors heaps of success and I will watch anything that pairs them again as a love interest or not.

Chemistry between the 2 male lead is everything

The chemistry between the two MLs is what kept me going until the very end of the series.

To be honest, the storyline isn’t really my type. I feel quite annoyed with how they wasted five whole episodes on a past love story that made absolutely no sense to me. It really didn’t need that many episodes for something that’s long over — two eps would’ve been more than enough. Stretching it out to five or six eps felt like such a waste. And because they dragged that out for so long, the later episodes ended up feeling rushed, as if they were scrambling to cram in an entire second volume’s worth of plot from the original novel, which made it turn to be too rushed after episode 20 and, at times, even a bit messy.

Five episodes for a shallow, irrelevant romance that no one cares about anymore… yet the same number of episodes was all they had to cover the events of volume two. That’s probably one of my biggest regrets while watching.

And towards the end, perhaps because of censorship, scenes that should have had a kiss to elevate the emotion of the moment were completely removed. It felt like being spoiled with a feast of meat and fish every week, only to suddenly be forced into going vegetarian — very frustrating. The ending scene was also abrupt and unsatisfying, leaving me with a lump in my throat. Thankfully, I later got to see the leaked clip of Sou Wei taking Chi Cheng to his father’s grave to introduce his boyfriend. Without that, I swear I would’ve held a grudge against the production team forever.

The acting isn’t outstanding — sometimes it even feels a bit stiff to me — but they still have those magical moments when the performance truly soars. I even cried by the river while watching episode 19; Ziyu’s acting in that episode was absolutely captivating. Even now, I still tear up whenever I see anything related to Ziyu in episode 19.

Also, the BTS of this series is insane.
Thank you for making my summer of 2025 unforgettable.
Love. ❤️

Much drama, much fun, much crazy and they made it in the end!

ᴍʏ ʀᴀᴛɪɴɢ ꜱʏꜱᴛᴇᴍ: 10 = [ʟᴏᴠᴇᴅ ᴇᴠᴇʀʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ɪᴛ, ɴᴏ ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟᴀɪɴᴛꜱ, ɪɴ ᴍʏ ᴏᴘɪɴɪᴏɴ ɪᴛ ᴡᴀꜱ 'ᴘᴇʀꜰᴇᴄᴛ', ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ʀᴇᴄᴄ ɪᴛ]

They made it, and we made it ya'll. It was a long, yet somehow also short, ride to get to the end of these very entertaining and interesting 24 episodes but here we are :D
I have always said and have always felt Chinese producers and Chinese writers doing BL is on another level, they've shown many times that their BL game could be amazing if they were free to produce them, even their censored content is usually amazing, and now we see just how great their proper BLs are and can be through recent examples, and especially including Revenged Love. The Chinese do nuance and story/character building and character interaction like few other BLs have ever managed to do so far.
So for RL, let's break it down:

THE GOOD -GREAT!-:
- Casting CASTING cAStiNg!!! They nailed it, honestly, the four mains were amazing in this, as well as the two 'right hand men' to the two main Tops (so likeable despite not having much screen time), and the support cast were all great too (the bad guys and good guys), everyone really owned their roles. Never mind the fact the fact that all four mains and many support cast members were good looking, which I RARELY think when watching any BL.
- Despite the budget not being very high and a few flaws made by the wardrobe department (repeated outfits and odd fashion choices), ultimately they locked down some key character looks, memorable scene sets and made very few continuity errors or filming errors left in scenes.
- The acting of the great cast was well on point, each of the four mains embodied their characters super well.
- Unique characters and character relationships, especially between the four main leads.
- A full and complete story from start to finish (albeit a somewhat crazy one but that's on the author CJD), with refreshing arcs and scenes not usually seen in BLs.
- The OST is great, and the music is also used very very well, at just the right points, doesn't overwhelm the scenes or ruin the moment and it was always very suitable to the scenes it was used in.
- Every episode has insanely good visuals at various points and the rewatch value goes hard.
- They used REAL snakes in almost all of the scenes, which was unexpected and a bonus (I like snakes), and only some CGI once and it wasn't the worst.
- The chemistry of the four main leads really was off the charts!
- Some plot scenarios with interesting highs and lows that were sometimes ugly and sometimes sexy, kept us on our toes lol
- No overdone perfect makeup and hair in every scene, the actors looked mostly natural with some normal makeup and their hair and clothes were left to become untidy, also their body hair wasn't all shaved away and they sat and moved and talked and gestured fluidly, the actors becoming the characters quite naturally.
- The humor! I loved the humor so much, sometimes in your face, sometimes subtle!
- Over all the adaptation was changed and adjusted in many good ways, a very successful live take on a very bad fanfiction based webnovel.

THE not bad but rather SHORTCOMINGS (imo):
- I don't mind China's voice over-dubbing, but sometimes the dubbing was a little too loud, the mix down audio editing could have been better.
- The way the wardrobe department dressed the character of Chengyu sometimes baffled me, not his shirts, those were fine and quite outstanding and helped create a signature look, but his pants. Really not flattering. At all. The shoes also, of Chengyu and Chi Cheng, but then, I have NEVER understood Asia's obsession with giant shoes, especially on already tall men. Again, not flattering. The characters of Suowei and Xiaoshuai were dressed much better in comparison.
- The story sometimes got a little wonky, but considering the source material, the upgrade is massive.

THE UGLY:
- The unhinged 'fans' who caused a lot of problems for the showrunners and affected many things, like airing schedule changes, halting of promotion and bts and even led to scenes being cut from many episodes. These issues caused by external factors did make hinder the high of the enjoyment marginally.

THE HIGHLIGHTS:
- ZHAN XUAN. For me, I discovered a new actor I really like (who happens to be super fine ahem and he sings well!).
- Tian Xuning, he definitely OWNED the role of Chi Cheng, like, he brought a whole vibe to the character that is quite stand out and unique and memorable.
- Chengyu and Chi Cheng's relationship and all their visuals and scenes and moments together. Damn near perfect pair imo.
- Many scenes from this show are memorable and a few of them made it onto my 'scenes that live in my head rent free' list.
- Because THE VISUALS were over all so so damn good.
- I loved the angst and dark humor and colourfully fucked up characters/personalities of the four mains.
- Entertainment value is super high.

This show might not be for everyone, but for those who like some dark themes and humor, angst, drama and comedy in their romance, you will LOVE this. This checked all my boxes and so I rated it 10/10 according to my personal rating system.

One of the of the most worst dramas

This is one of the worst dramas. Firstly...how is Chi Cheng's father able to control him like he did forcing him to marry.. He is an adult with his own independence . He has no reason to submit himself to his fathers absurd demands.. Secondly... it is well apparent to any one that the finance chosen by his family is fake and only wants to become a part of the family so that she can have an extravagant life style without any efforts/hard work,
Then... when Chi Cheng's ex comes back he is able to emotionally manipulate him and make him emotional by faking that he wants them to re-unite though it was because of what he did that Chi Cheng's childhood bond with Guo Cheng Yuo had fallen apart. He caused such a rivalry between both of them which carried on for several years.
Wang Shuo still had Chi Cheng dancing on the tip of his fingers. He so clearly faked it because of his jealousy that Chi Cheng had moved on...His ex's attempt of trying to harm himself by holding the snake was so childish and fake which was clearly recognizable..yet Chi Cheng falls for it and saved him...Due this; his ex was able to prove to Wei that he still had and will always have an irreplaceable place in his Chi Cheng's heart which Wei could not and would never be able to replace. He falls for his ex absurd behavior ...He is shown to be an exceptional person with unique capabilities and a successful person.. why was he not able realize that his ex was doing that so that he could prove to Wei Wei that he still loved him.
He is still so very emotional towards his ex and not bring himself to deny having any lingering love/feelings for ex who was just manipulating him. ..but when Chi Cheng was imprisoned for tax evasion though Wei Wei had not caused it...he was very. easily ..without any hesitation able to tell him that he hated him.....
The drama had a forced happy ending. His ex did not deserve it but he also able to find a stable partner with his stepbrother.

Moments of excellence in utterly unhinged plot?!

This drama starts ridiculously, progressess ridiculously and ends ridiculously. But, shockingly, it also delivers several well-acted tender and touching scenes. And i wonder if those few moments of excellence CAN be enough for me to say this was (almost) a good drama? Reccommend it to someone, even?!
It was certainly very enjoyable. I'm, for sure, intrigued by the dynamics of the main quadruple and entertained by their silly little plots.

Some people say that the drama went downhill after Wang Shuo appeared but i enjoyed those telenovella twists. Just SIX absolutely CRAZY people plotting. Did it understand why? Were their schemes justified? Not really, but it was fun.
Last 4 episodes felt odd after emotional climax in eps 18-20 but i am not mad at it, too... It gave us some unnecessary drama and necessary fluff. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Overall, the OST was good, the cinematography had NO bussiness to be this GOOD and what makes me over-rate this drama slightly is the acting. I feel like both leads delivered so surprisingly good performance, it almost felt wasted at this story. Im not going to talk about the story because... i have never wanted to say "exitus acta probat" when describing a TV show until today. The author had some ok ideas and had to tie them up with some random shit and it somehow worked.

So, yeah, this was a guitly pleasure type of thing so i'm rating this 8/10. Minus 2 points bcs nobody said "mačkáš mi hada, debile" when there were so many OPPORTUNITIES TO SAY IT...

Oh, and I also Hate this drama for reminding me how HOT can someone look with a cigarette >:(

PS. I'm wearing all Guo Chengyu's fits this spring/summer and nothing will stop me.

I watched everything in three days.

It really made me obsess over the characters and the story. I also felt the storyline to be unique, and the characters really developed. Are they believable and could be real? No and I hope not in some cases.

First, the bad:

One of the problems the drama has is that there are too many story arcs; they really did every trope under the sun:
- Revenge
- Controlling Parent / Parents opposing the relationship
- Loss of virginity
- Ex comes back
- Loss
- Miscommunication
- 3rd act break

The other huuge problem the drama has, there's some scenes that touch rape. There's one particular scene that we see one of then top main characters do to another character (not the bottom main lead) that I really had to ignore and forget or I wouldn't have enjoyed this as much as I did. I also would love that the loss of virginity plot arc would have been dealt with much less coercion and in a much more romantic way. Yeah the top lead is a big bad ass guy, into snakess and all, and into bdsm stuff, but the bottom is new to all this.

There's also like the first 4 episodes I would say this drama was trying too much, throwing everything under the sun at the wall and see what sticks. Then it finds it's voice and things get better, production gets better, the stories get better. But you have to take the first 4 episodes more like comedy and really decide after if you're into it or not.

Now the good:

I really loooved the first main arc of the story. I always do. When they are falling in love, when we see characters go from point A to B, really develop. The second main arc it's usually when I drop stories, but this one made me stick to it, and that says something.

Chi Cheng actor really does a good job. I really liked his character. Quiet characters are usually very hard to portray. He starts the show loving snakes more than anything in the world. He finished being a dependable, trustworthy guy who loves his partner more than anything. He goes from being someone no one relies on, to be the home of somebody. He goes from being rude and angry all the time to be calm and content and happy.

Wu Suo Wei character is a bit of a mess. He starts being a loser, with a girlfriend that leaves him for being poor. The whole "he's fat and unattractive" scenes are laughable because, honestly, he wasn't. He lost his dad when he was young, so he and his mother had to work extra hard to succeed in life. He's not afraid to take odd jobs or risky opportunities and he's very cheap. He first approaches Chi Cheng to take revenge on his ex, but falls in love with him slowly.

The second main couple is also quite interesting. Guo Cheng Yu is the childhood friend of Chi Cheng. There's a messy story there where they used to be three friends, with the third friend being the ex of Chi Cheng, but I don't want to enter to explain here but the drama is good. He's a chef? has a company? I'm not sure honestly. But he's more kind and respectful than Chi Cheng with his lovers. And then there's Jiang Xiao Shuai, who helps Wu Suo Wei and becomes sort of his master. His story is quite sad and I really enjoyed to see a more soft and less dramy side.

Overall it made me feel inspire to write, so I can't rate this drama badly. I'm not sure I would rewatch in the future but just for the story arcs and plots is an interesting case study.

Its great and amazing it made me like BL, though i just didnt like some scenes since they contained really graphic ideas such as sexual assault, rape, and etc. The cast was amazing, everyone was handsome and great at acting, almost as if they had 1000 years of experience. Though i dont really recommend watching it due to the fact that it has several graphic scenes, and if u dont like those then either dont rewatch it or just dont watch it all. Thats all.

The first half is great, but...

This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review for a drama, but I just had conflicting feelings about this series. The first half was solid; good acting, good pacing, and the story was entertaining. But after that, the enjoyable moments felt fewer and further between. The show did not have to be this long. It felt like we had reached a satisfying ending around the halfway point, and then it just kept going, becoming more drama for the sake of drama rather than a cohesive story.

The moment that infuriated me the most was the third-act misunderstanding, which is unfortunately a common trope in romantic fiction, though sometimes it can be executed well; this was not one of those times. It felt incredibly out of character for Suo Wei to lie when confronted. That just reeked of forced conflict to pad out the runtime, and I actually had to stop watching at that point and continue later because it was making me emotional in all the wrong ways. I'm just glad Chi didn't then go and hook up with his ex, that probably would've made me drop the series completely.

Obviously there were moments in the back half that were necessary, like resolving Xiao Shuai and Cheng Yu's storyline and the unfortunate fate of Wu's mom, which was such a gripping scene. If some of the fat was removed, and if the breakup hadn't been so ridiculous and out of left field, this would definitely have a higher rating.

i'm obsessed

Finished this drama yesterday and I refuse to let it go, so I already started rewatching all Chi Cheng & Wu Suowei scenes...
This one defo became my new comfort drama - despite some flaws I'm so obsessed with it. It's funny cuz when I started a 1st ep a few days ago I wasn't expecting much, just wanted to find sth to fill my time. And now I have a withdrawal syndrome...

I want to say that thing which makes this drama so special is not the story itself, which has some flaws, but its characters - love them all so much.
This story starts with our straight guy deciding to get revenge on the guy who "stole" his gf and I laughed so much watching our silly friends duo (Wu Suowei & Xiaoshuai) scheming to lure Chi Cheng into trap, Suowei's staright guy panic moments were pure gold and Chi Cheng determination to get him laid... I think I was looking forward to it even more than Chi Cheng :D

Wu Suowei: I love how despite being staright at the beginning he was so determined to win over Chi Cheng. Watching him slowly lured by Chi Cheng charms was sweet. I like how he switched from avoiding physcial contact at all to proactively engagin it in the end. He's little silly but I like he's not typical soft & passive bottom, he's scheming, but at the same time also very sincere in his actions and also beign able to realize his previous misjudgments about Chi Cheng.

Chi Cheng: Ugh, idk even know how to describe my feelings towards this character - I'm such a sucker for bad boys who are ready to do everything for their loved ones. But at first I want to praise the actor! Tian really outdone this role - before watching this drama I didn't even know it's possible to deliver all these kinky scenes without making them cringe - but damn, I was so wrong! He not only managed to not making them feel cringe, but all of them were so damn hot, like I swear, mad respect. No need to say how much I had to fan myself during them...
At first Chi Cheng is driven by his lust, but due to Suowei actions we can see how he gets interested in him more and more, slowly falling in love with him and letting go of his past, to finally get so hooked by him that he literally worships him. I loved his character growth and how he portrayed all transitions in his feelings towards Suowei. I could feel all his lust, his pain and his deep love for Suowei.

Chi Cheng & Wu Suowei chemistry is off the charts, they both have their flaws, but both their relationship and character growth is really good and feeling very natural.

I also love 2nd leads couple! They are so sweet togather and also devoted friends to Chi Cheng and Wu Suowei. I enjoyed all scenes with them as well and I'm happy about how their arc was resolved.

What I loved:
- great chemistry
- damn hot scenes (praise Tian!)
- all comedy moments
- character & relationship growth
- friendship between all 4 of them

What I didn't like:
- miscommuniaction/misunderstaing in 2nd half trope dragged too long imo and could be easily resolved earlier (please, i beg u, communication is not rly that hard, wish for directors to stop overusing this trope so much... i rly hate it)
- when above was finally resolved we had another obstacle, which felt totally unnecessary for me
- cuz of both of things mentioned above I feel like we had less Chi Chen & Wu Suowei moments in 2nd half than in 1st one :(((

Generally, despite some flaws, I rly love this drama and would 1000000% recommend it! And please, please, dont let one scene in 1st ep ruin Chi Cheng character for you - I also hated this scene and don't think it was necessary at all and I know it may be big trigger for some, but I beg you, don't let it ruin whole character - cuz Chi Cheng is much more than that.

EDIT: GUYS SEND HELP, PLS. I've rewatched it 3 times already and I still can't let it go... Chi Cheng literally ruined me..............
