Post "happy ending": apprezzabile - in parte - ma non così necessario.

Nelle serie asiatiche i sequel sono cosa piuttosto rara e, in questo caso, giustificato solo in parte.
Nonostante la prima stagione si fosse conclusa con quello che poteva a tutti gli effetti essere considerato un degno epilogo, la nuova stagione punta i riflettori sulla vita di coppia di Shirasaki e Hayama.
Gradevole? Direi proprio di sì. Necessaria? Forse anche no.
Sicuramente si ha modo di apprezzare un maggior numero di interazioni tra i due, e di natura più intima. L'intesa in questo senso non manca. Vederli ritagliarsi piccoli momenti di vita quotidiana, vissuta in totale riservatezza, sicuramente appaga i fan della coppia.
La recitazione, rispetto alla prima stagione, ha fatto anche un evidente passo in avanti. La caratterizzazione dei personaggi resta fedele, con Hayama che esterna solo una minuscola parte dell'infinità di emozioni che lo pervadono e Shirasaki spesso alle prese con nuove e vecchie insicurezze.
A conti fatti, però, pur in una relazione diversa - prima non erano una coppia, ora sì - le tematiche sul piatto sono un po' sempre quelle: Hayama che va interpretato e Shirasaki alle prese col suo complesso di inferiorità nei confronti dell'altro.
Certo lo affrontano in modo diverso, senza i tanti fraintendimenti della prima stagione. Ma di nuovo, tutto sommato, non c'è altro.
Se da una parte l'ho guardata con piacere, dall'altra a visione conclusa ho avuto l'impressione di non aver aggiunto alcun tassello mancante. Spesso i drama trovano l'epilogo nella dichiarazione che da il via alla love story ufficiale, e puntualmente si spera sempre in qualche manciata di minuti in più in coda all'epilogo, qualche scena extra che mostri il post happy ending che tutti vorremmo vedere, ma quasi sempre ciò non accade, la serie finisce e il resto sta all'immaginazione dello spettatore.
Potrei perdere il conto dei drama per quali avrei voluto, non appena giunta alla fine, avere anche una seconda stagione. Nel concreto mi chiedo se, appagato il desiderio di seguire le dinamiche quotidiane - e finalmente felici - del pairing di turno, in mancanza di altri contenuti nuovi e originali ad arricchire la vicenda motivando un secondo sviluppo, mi riterrei soddisfatta o meno della visione. Su due piedi direi di sì, ma in realtà probabilmente no. Un po' come in questo caso: è stato bello rivederli e seguirli nelle dinamiche di coppia ma, a conti fatti, andava bene anche senza. Forse, a volte, l'idea del sequel ha più fascino se rimane nell'immaginazione individuale piuttosto che portata in scena nel concreto.

Per chi ha apprezzato la prima stagione resta comunque un sequel che non fa male guardare.

A coming of age story for grown ups.

This season is the most unusual continuation of a series I have seen for a long time. One of the first scenes describes the series perfectly when the director of "Daydream" said: "A love story that continues after two people get together is, in my opinion, quite difficult to portray. Because the most exciting part of the drama is the moment they fall for each other. However, real love doesn't end the moment when they get together. After that, both of them will have many more important moments to come. [... this is] something I hope to portray with care and nuance." - And that's exactly what the series is about and what they did.

I know this is not the kind of series that will get most acclaim, because it's so outside of "normal" BL series. Yes they have their tropes, Shirasaki-kuns inferior complex and Asami-sans unpleasant past, but the care they put into the characters is not seen very often. This is not entertainment you watch just to escape your troubles, this is a story which confronts you with new troubles and which can't be watched alongside doing something else. I'm late with my review, because I binge-watched the entire series again, because to have the most impact, to wait for a week does this series not justice.

In the context of japanese culture, children are thougth to not show emotions and even surpress them for the sake of your career and/or family or to just "save face". This series does the opposite by showing the process of getting actors into a mindset of the character they are playing, where they have to show emotions. And both of them apply the learnings in doing so for their own persons, to reflect on themselves and to battle their inner "demons". And so they both grow as persons and they grow as a couple. And they feel and know when their partner is struggeling and they talk about it. And that just got me. That portrayal was so nuanced and so great to watch, if left me stunned for some time processing all the emotions they got into me.

While I understand that such a series will not click with many, for me it's a masterpiece. A series really focused on the characters and still having also the little things in it, the affection for each other and the longing for each other. Of course I have to recommand this series, but you need a clear head and you should not take a break watching it. I can't express how much I like this series, because it's so different and so mature and so well made.
