I know it’s a short show. So I knew the romance would feel rushed. But it was fine and their chemistry was good so I was willing to look past a little insta-love.

But he only really appeared to be yakuza boss in like 2 scenes?? He was only scary like once??? No. I want more dark. I would have like to see more of a darker side of him. Even if it was more of a Jekyll and Hyde situation. The offset of big bad yakuza boss to soft boy for her.

Also, I’m still relatively new to jdramas so it might just be a cultural thing… but the kissing??? If you could call it that. Don’t just give me a peck, KISS HER LIKE A MAN!

Promising setup, but a rushed and underwhelming finish

I have a real soft spot for J-dramas — they just hit differently compared to C-dramas and K-dramas, even if I can’t fully explain why. This one hooked me straight away with its premise: a timid FL ends up homeless after discovering her boyfriend cheated, and somehow finds herself living with the ML… who just so happens to be a Yakuza boss.

There’s a fun running joke throughout where everyone at her workplace knows exactly who he is except her, and she absolutely refuses to believe it. Those moments were genuinely enjoyable, and the drama started with the right amount of momentum to keep me interested.

But with only 8 episodes at around 20 minutes each, it quickly became clear there just wasn’t enough time to let the story breathe. The pacing fell off toward the end, and I actually stopped watching partway through and struggled to motivate myself to pick it back up again.

By the time it finished, it left me feeling a bit meh. Not terrible, just underwhelming — a drama with a solid setup that didn’t quite deliver on its potential.

Honestly i really liked it!

So as many other others, before watching the show I came here first and reading through quite a bit of the reviews A lot of people were saying that it’s not “Yakuza” enough and he’s to nice and I personally haven’t watched too many Yakuza shows so this is just my opinion, but I don’t see why that is a bad thing??? As someone who watches a lot of true crime and knows quite a bit about Japanese true crime, They are not good people… and I stay away from watching too many dramas about them because It makes me a lil uncomfortable sexualizing them So the fact that San was kind and Changed his gang for the good and stopped killing people made me like him even more cause I don’t really think I would like him to be killing innocent people left and right lol. I can agree on the fact that it is very workspace, romance and less of mafia but still I I low-key disagree with the fact that he’s too nice haha that’s what made me like him a lot and I thought the show was simple and cute, not to crazy and dramatic. I loved the yearning, jealousy overprotectiveness and just great communication lol That’s hard to come by in shows nowadays. But moral of the story I enjoyed it. From Yakuza to Office: A Promise That Quickly Deflates

The Yakuza Boss’s Beloved opens with a premise that, on paper, promises pure gold: a feared Japanese mafia boss going undercover as an office manager. With this starting point, anyone would expect an explosive mix of dangerous romance, tension, and plenty of action. The early episodes manage to grab your attention and sell you an illusion that, unfortunately, deflates faster than a party balloon.

If you came looking for the adrenaline of the Japanese underworld, I’m sorry to say you’ll be left disappointed.

THE "HELPLESS PRINCESS" PROBLEM AND THE TAMED YAKUZA

The biggest flaw of this drama lies in its characters and how the script chooses to betray its own premise.

Sugawara Makoto (the female lead): She is the graphic definition of a “bland, unsalted egg.” Tasteless, apathetic, and with a worrying lack of charisma. Instead of witnessing any evolution, we are left with the cliché of a damsel in distress who cannot solve a single problem on her own.

Odagiri Ren (the Yakuza boss): What started as a passionate, dominant, and dangerous leader ends up becoming a generic, flat romantic-comedy boyfriend. The script “domesticates” him so much that you completely forget his criminal background.

WhHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN:

The real potential of the series lay in keeping Ren in his ruthless yakuza role and showing how he drags the innocent Makoto into that dark world. That duality would have been fascinating.

Instead, it turns into a prince charming rescuing an incompetent princess in a completely ordinary office setting.

WHERE DID THE ACTION GO?

The word “Yakuza” in the title is pure misleading marketing. The mafia storyline is practically non-existent. Outside of a single scene throughout the entire series where we actually see Ren act like a member of organized crime, the rest of the drama dissolves into office misunderstandings and sugary romance.

If you removed the “mafia” label and marketed it simply as a typical office romance, the series wouldn’t be nearly as disappointing. The problem is that it promises danger and delivers paperwork and office coffee.

FINAL VERDICT

The Yakuza Boss’s Beloved is an entertaining drama at the beginning, but it betrays its own promises halfway through. It replaces gunpowder, mystery, and mafia tension with a generic romance that strips all spark from the protagonists. It’s only ideal if you’re looking for a very light office romance and don’t mind the lack of logic in the plot; but if you were expecting action and a romance with real intensity, it’s better to skip this one.

Calor, afeto e certezas.

Após duas longas semanas, fui agraciada com os dois últimos episódios desse drama e posso dizer: perfeito, sim, do início ao fim!

Em oito episódios, eu vivenciei uma mistura perfeita de comédia leve, dramas românticos, atitude do protagonista e a nitidez do medo da protagonista.

Para mim, o drama foi subdividido em 3 partes. Primeiro, o grande problema com um ex tóxico, uma amante invejosa e o "anjo" que salva vidas, o chefe que salvou sua vida. Segunda parte, tudo muda: de um possível salvamento não intencional para uma construção de uma relação de afeto sem medo. Ele já a amava há tempos, já a idolatrava e esperou pacientemente pelo dia em que ela estaria pronta para estar ao seu lado.

E por fim, o nosso grande drama com a descoberta da realidade paralela dele. O ápice da sinopse tomou forma nos episódios finais, deixando todos ansiosos com a reação dela sobre a vida paralela e a decisão dele sobre a mesma. Mas no fim, tivemos uma troca linda de amor de ambos. Independentemente de motivos, medos ou realidades, eles optaram por permanecer um ao lado do outro, se amando com calor, importância e afeto.

Poca cura e coerenza unite a molte banalità in un romance a tema Yakuza... Dove la Yakuza non c'è.

Serie onestamente deludente, costituita da otto episodi non particolarmente lunghi e che non risultano sufficienti a costruire una vicenda lineare e credibile. Soprattutto all'inizio, i passaggi che devono condurre alla convivenza dei due protagonisti si susseguono in rapida successione ma senza la giusta connessione tra l'uno e l'altro: ha più la struttura di un trailer diluito che di un episodio vero e proprio.
Il tema della Yakuza viene promesso dalla trama, ripetutamente citato nella serie, ma di fatto... non c'è. Ciò lo rende elemento stridente, completamente fuori contesto, banalizzato e ridicolizzato da vicende che davvero non stanno in piedi in quanto a logica. Lui ha una doppia vita, ok. Come capo ufficio è rigido, ma di certo non letale come nei panni del boss malavitoso. Accettabile. I dipendenti lo soprannominano - guarda che coincidenza! - "boss della Yakuza", solo perchè autorevole e intimidatorio: e già qui andiamo fuori dalle righe. La giovane e fastidiosa arrivista ruba-fidanzati scopre il segreto di lui nel modo più patetico possibile (zero dignità per la credibilità di questa Yakuza!). Non solo, promuove un ridicolo ricatto a quello che ha appena scoperto essere un capo della malavita. Per la serie: l'oca di turno che minaccia colui che - sulla carta - potrebbe farla sparire dalla faccia della Terra in due minuti e senza lasciare traccia. Il tenore della sensatezza, insomma, è questo e tale resta per l'intera durata del drama.
In tema di protagonisti e recitazione, non mi è dispiaciuto Totsuka Shota, attore già conosciuto e apprezzato in "Rinko-san wants to try": ha le carte in regola per impersonare l'eroe freddo e distaccato, e forse anche l'antieroe gelido e letale. Di questo secondo si è visto ben poco, ho apprezzato giusto la pistola puntata alla nuca dell'ex fidanzato fedifrago di lei e il tipico tatuaggio Irezumi che caratterizza i membri della Yakuza (ma, anche qui, l'elemento è stato sfruttato davvero ben poco). Per il restante 98% del tempo non fa che mostrare sensibilità, gentilezza, preoccupazione, disponibilità, supporto e comprensione alla protagonista. La trovo una caratterizzazione troppo discordante, presa per buona una delle due personalità l'altra risulta troppo OOC. Resta comunque un bravo attore a mio avviso potenzialmente capace di reggere un ruolo come quello proposto, a patto che ci sia una caratterizzazione del personaggio e una sceneggiatura quanto meno decenti.
Stendo un velo pietoso invece sul personaggio femminile: l'attrice l'ho già vista in altri drama simili, la sua interpretazione sembra un copia-incolla delle prove già svolte. La caratterizzazione del personaggio è pessima, non c'è evoluzione e il suo essere perennemente indifesa, insipida, indecisa (e potrei andare avanti con un lungo elenco di altri aggettivi dal prefisso "in") la rende alla stregua di un invertebrato. Enfatizza tra l'altro anche uno dei due elementi che non amo particolarmente nei drama giapponesi, ovvero l'eccessiva formalità e compostezza che sopprime anche quelle che dovrebbero essere forti reazioni istintive, quali la scoperta di un tradimento (l'altro elemento che non mi fa impazzire riguarda la comunicazione, sempre ridotta all'osso).
Mi aspettavo una versione giapponese di una storia simile al drama coreano "Vincenzo" - pur con tutte le possibili differenze, limiti e difetti che tra le due diverse origini di produzione potevano esserci - ma ho trovato ancora di meno di quanto atteso e di quanto promesso dall'incipit della trama. Di sicuro non si è trattato di un inganno voluto, ma davanti al risultato ottenuto la sensazione provata è certamente quella dell'essere stati un po' imbrogliati. Se l'unico appeal è il mix romance-Yakuza, allora è il caso di saltarlo a piedi pari.

Preciso ver mais dramas da atriz para entender que foi produção, diferença de idade ou escolha da atriz em suavizar tanto os beijos que mal abrir a boca kkkkk Química tinha, os olhares eram ótimos, as expressões, mas o beijo, parecia que ele estava indo com vontade em uma parede :( . (a cena da cozinha principalmente) Se fosse no início eu entenderia que foi para a evolução do relacionamento deles, afinal de contas ele era o chefe direto do departamento, e ela tinha acabado de descobrir a traição do ex.

Me sobe um ódio, que eu só fico xingando e falando: dá um tapa na cara, dá um tapa na caraaaaaaa! Então eu AMEI a forma que o Ren responde em todas as situações.
Gostei de ver a FL se fortalecendo, deixando de ser completamente submissa e adquirindo confiança.
Mas adoraria ver até uma versão onde o ML não deixa a máfia e a FL se une a ele (talvez tenha, mas não sei).

Achei o plot interessante e fui sabendo que ia sentir vergonha alheia em alguns momentos, mas o que mais me incomodou foi o cara sair da máfia depois de conhecer o amor. Não curti. Queria ele como chefe e ela ao lado dele.
A pessoa me dá um romance de máfia e me tira a máfia?? Sem condições.
As atuações são bem medianas, mas eu já esperava isso, então não me frustrou. Agora a protagonista feminina me estressou sim, meu pai amado que mulher tadinha. O único momento que ela me deixou orgulhosa foi quando tacou a cadeira na cabeça daquele cara. Enfim, é um mini drama ruim, mas que é bom, sabe? Estranhamente cativante.

Minhas sinceras palavras sobre THE YAKUZA BOSS'S BELOVED

Confesso que eu realmente me interessei por esse dorama justamente por amar histórias com personagens mafiosos, gângsteres e yakuzas. Então, quando li a sinopse fiquei bastante animada pra assistir. E sério, não esperava que esse drama me prendesse tanto. São 8 episódios que você olha e não dar nada, mas desde o 1° Episódio eu me surpreendi e me apaixonei.

Do começo ao fim a história te envolve bastante e você se encanta com o Ren e a Makoto. Os dois entregam momentos muito fofos que você passa a xoná-los durante o drama inteiro e torce pela felicidade e o amor de ambos. O beijo pode não ser o ponto forte, porém achei que não foi tão ruim assim (Misericórdia, porque já assisti outros j-dramas que nem beijo tinha e quando tinha era chechelento demais). Pena que são poucos episódios. Então terminei o dorama com o gostinho de "quero mais". Logo, o importante é que o final fechou bem e não ficou indesejado, mas teria sido legal ter mais episódios para completar e aprofundar detalhes que, durante o dorama não fizeram tanta questão em pôr que poderia ser incluído para deixar a história mais íntegra.
