Asami Mitsuhiko Series 6 (1996)

Traveling to Otaru for his work as a nonfiction writer, Asami Mitsuhiko, who has a strong dislike of flying, arrives at Otaru Port by ferry. Shortly after his arrival, a murder occurs, and Mitsuhiko himself becomes the one who discovers the body. The victim is Osanai Katsuko. When a black swallowtail butterfly is found inside her handbag, Mitsuhiko’s curiosity is piqued. As he begins researching the history of Otaru, he comes to suspect that the murder of a member of the Osanai family may be rooted in events buried deep within the city’s long past. Mitsuhiko starts questioning Enomoto, Katsuko’s former lover. Then, on the morning of Katsuko’s funeral, a second murder occurs.
