The Prince and The Lying Princess
What started as a very engaging series derailed itself with a fairytale ending. The good parts were the roles of Nara and Junichi. They actually captured my attention every moment they were on screen. The pacing was nice except for just a little too many flashbacks. What messed up the storyline:
Makiko manipulating everyone at any given time.
Naoto willingly going to jail to protect someone who doesn't and never will love him.
Junichi using the nurse as a place holder for the one he wanted. At the end, she says she loves him. He is even forced to admit that he loves Makiko. She deserved more respect than that.
Makiko wanted to sleep with her ex-husband then changes her mind when Junichi shows up.
Makiko lying to her ex-husband the entire time without telling him the entire truth. Here I wonder if all fingers pointed at him, would she have allowed him to go to jail for her wrong doing.
Junichi basically inserting himself in Keisuke's life since childhood.
While I understand Makiko's pain, she was rewarded for everything at everyone's expense.
The most unrealistic end to a series about reality.
The last 15 minutes left a sour taste.
So no on a rewatch for me.

a Japanese whodunit
Depending on your preferences and like Korean/C dramas that redirect the story then this probably is not your cup of tea. Nothing misleading here, the story just unfolded every layer of the characters like an onion. It’s not a happy ending in a sense of Cinderella as lives were broken, yet it focuses on the central four characters and like Stand By Me, they supported each other at their weakest. Our femme detective reminds me of Agatha Christie’s leads, but the Japanese in in uncanny way made her delightful to watch. She was the glue. of course I’m a big fan of our male lead as he is such a versatile Japanese actor, playing a stoic character strong yet flawed with pain. I’m glad it’s only 9 episodes so no fillers are needed. I truly enjoy the Japanese film industry as they dance to their own music. speaking of music, I love the song so much it’s downloaded on my iPhone. Was this review helpful to you?

I am not aiming to write a full review at this point, but rather to make a strong recommendation —
I had planned to wait until the finale to share my thoughts on this series, but it is so exceptional — and at the same time so underrated — that I felt compelled to write something now. With three episodes left before its conclusion, **Silent Truth** continues to surprise me.
I have always been passionate about well-crafted thrillers and stories that truly know how to unfold their narrative. Here, we have one of the finest Japanese suspense dramas currently on air. Thankfully, Netflix secured the streaming rights, allowing us to experience the production in its highest quality.
I am not aiming to write a full review at this point, but rather to make a strong recommendation — a sincere and enthusiastic one.
If you appreciate suspense, psychological tension, high production value, and actors delivering truly remarkable performances, then this is a drama you simply cannot miss.

The End
Unfortunately, the ending did not match the reality that the story had conveyed. Junichi’s ending with Makiko was a cold splash of water on such a well-crafted plot.
It could have been much better if the story had a happy yet realistic ending.
I still recommend the series, but not with the same enthusiasm as at the beginning.
Sorry, folks.

Brilliant Murder Mystery
Yes, this is a murder mystery, but it's so much more than that. It's a story about four kids that experience an ordeal so powerful at the time, they each carry a burden of it for 23 years, which is present day of this story. A story of murder, regret, first love, deception, lies and so much more. The adult cast is fantastic, making a great mix of chemistry with each other. Ryoma Takeuchi & Noriko Eguchi are definitely my two favorite, especially Noriko, who is the relentless detective with many mysteries surrounding herself. In fact, each character is hiding something about themselves, which eventually all comes out as you get deeper into the series.
Episode six would definitely be the pinnacle episode for many reasons, but as many questions are answered, many more mysteries are created.
This is the kind of drama you watch the story spider out into so many directions ... and as you get to the final episode, you think you have it all figured out. Guess what, you're not going to even come close as to what the final outcome is for the cast and the story. A truly great final episode leaves no question unanswered, and gives a great shocking conclusion to the original murder from 23 years in the past.
Just a great suspenseful drama, with a touch of everything to make it super entertaining!

Came for Ryoma Takeuchi stayed to watch great series with brilliant ensemble acting by all involved
Having discovered Ryoma Takeuchi in "Then you cook it" and "10 Dance" was intrigued to watch this. I'd already seenSeto Koji in "My Housekeeper Nagasi San" and "Kururi: Dare ga Watashi to Koi wo Shita?" and Mao Inoue in series with Takeru Satoh "I should have told you a 100 000 times" (where weirdly she also played a hairdresser). As I'm beginning to watch more and more jdramas I suppose I'm now able to recognise a lot of the actors ! One of the detectives played by Kamikawa Shusaku was Nakase's brother in "Incurable case of love" (though didn't like his role there) . As other reviewer jeoneungd stated the series also reminded me of the film "Stand by Me" about 4 young people. I had never seen the actress Eguchi Noriko before and thought her character was brilliant as the murder-solving detective munching on bananas... Part of me wanted her to team up with the ML as a crime-fighting duo. Suffice to say I will be trying to watch her in some of her other works. Just love the quiet unfolding of the different storylines over the 9 episodes - all done in a understated style of Japanese dramas (perhaps mangas apart- I'm a relative newbie). Also loved the OST and now will go looking for the title track.

Great acting by ML but flawed characters and overall performance
The story is great with twists and turns but there were so many characters whose intentions left me in question. Biggest one would be Junichi’s nurse girlfriend. Don’t understand how she can be his side and act as a placeholder until he decided to go back to Makiko. That’s so unrealistic… Ryoma’s acting really amazed me here because his performance was kinda outshone in his other Dr series.Don’t like Nara’s acting at all as there were so many unnecessary quirks from hers. Keisuke was really a red flag and don’t understand how he is still comparing to Junichi in the end. I do think Makiko lying is kinda understandable plus for someone who got SA, I understand why she wants to go to her rapist on her own and not get the police involved. But I feel that her liking with Junichi felt too forced. Perhaps it’s her acting maybe? Naoto’s reaction to Makiko admission of guilt is too over too.
Overall, the story is good but performance as a whole is still somewhat lacking and intentions of characters not clear.

.Silent Truth is a series with a gripping premise, strong performances, and moments of genuine emotional impact. But it’s also weighed down by convoluted relationships, questionable character logic, and plot choices that sometimes strain believability. Still, the acting—especially from Takeuchi Ryoma—and the emotional beats keep you watching, even when the mystery starts to wobble. It’s a show that frustrates you, intrigues you, and occasionally breaks your heart. And somehow, despite everything, you can’t look away.

Romance disguised as Mystery
I love everything in the plot other than the relationship between the main characters. It's very clear that who has feelings for who from episode 1 but everyone pretending to be dumb.In the story, most of the characters is love brained and doing everything for love. I agree that sometimes a well written plot can give love/romance a great reason to do things. But what I see in this story is characters who blindly in loves, and do things that hurts other outside of their relationship because of their love, and somehow people who is hurts are ALL okay with it?? I really hate the unrealistic concept like nobody is angry and gladly accept being only supporting character in the lives of the main characters.
From the middle point of the drama, basically I already know the culprit, and so does the main characters, basically the fact is sealed, but there is no progression in the crime investigation which makes it really boring for me. What really bring another mystery to the table is only one person, which is the female detective that is NOT a main character (I love her).
If you are looking for detective/crime/mystery (like me) you will be very disappointed because the only thing I see here is romance. But if you love romance but just looking into different theme like mystery murder then this is probably for you. I didn't say that the mystery-murder plot is bad but the romance that thrown away your brain outside of window feels like fish-bone stuck in the throat.
