I don't care that we're only 10 episodes in—The Edge of Horizon (อรุณรุ่ง) is already an untouchable 10/10 period drama masterpiece! One31 and GagaOOLala blew everyone out of the water. The emotional weight, political stakes, and raw, agonizing yearning make every single weekly wait feel like literal torture!

1. The InnOngsa Chemistry & Raw Devotion
The casting director deserves an award because the dynamic between Prince Thin (Ongsa) and Phob (Inn) is completely unreal:

~ Ongsa's Micro-Expressions: Ongsa gives a heartbreaking, soft, yet resilient performance. His eyes carry 90% of the emotional weight you physically feel the desperation and boundless love Prince Thin has carried since childhood.

~ Inn’s Devoted Energy: Watching Phob navigate his duties while being ready to tear down the entire royal hierarchy just to keep Thin safe is peak top behavior. The way Phob looks at Thin like he’s his only reason to breathe makes my chest hurt.

2. Heavy Spoilers & The Ep 1-10 Emotional Damage

Holy cinema.

First of all, it's not even completed and i still love it so much. From the storyline to ost to chemistry everything is so perfect istg. I didn't know that I needed this

It is a 10!

OMG, that was something! Where do I even start? The chemistry between the actors is 🔥🤌🏻 ! The scenes don't seem awkward, they feel natural even when the characters are getting intimate. The actors look comfortable next to each other. There are no weird moves (GMMTV, take notes), no aggressive and fake-looking kisses, just passion. And we're here for that 🫣.

The story itself, I heard, is based on the real history of Siam and its road to democracy/constitution, with some fictional changes, and it makes it even more interesting. I actually started reading about Siamese history because of this series 👀. So the story itself has potential, and the actors delivered = 10/10 👏🏻. I also have to mention that the actor playing Prince has such beautiful eyes, and his way of portraying emotions with them is amazing. His beauty has to be protected. The actor playing Captain is also very good at expressing his character. I really got invested in this drama LOL.

If I have to add one minus point here, I'd say the scene with the unconscious/sleeping Prince (I know he wasn't actually sleeping, but Phob didn't know that) is inappropriate and could have been handled differently. I understand it's necessary for the later scenes, but consent, please! It's 2026 and consent is SEXY.

A Refreshing BL with a Historical Soul

As a foreigner who loves watching Thai BL series, this drama was such a refreshing watch, especially because it is rooted in a real period of Thai history. I honestly enjoyed seeing a BL story set against such an important historical backdrop rather than having the romance exist in a completely fictional world.

And the chemistry between Inn (Phob) and Ongsa (Tin) is INSANE. Their chemistry felt natural, and their relationship was definitely one of the biggest reasons I stayed invested in the story.

One thing that initially confused me was how relatively accepting the setting was toward their relationship. I've watched several period BL series, and I've noticed a similar pattern: despite being set in the early 1900s to the 1950s, many of them portray same-sex relationships as being more socially accepted than I would initially expect.

But I eventually realized that this may partly be because our modern understanding of homosexuality doesn't perfectly translate to how relationships, gender, and sexuality were understood in historical Thailand. Thailand's historical attitudes toward same-sex relationships were much more complicated than simply being either "homophobic" or "accepting." Traditional Thai society had its own concepts and social expectations surrounding gender and sexuality, while the modern Western idea of sexual identity developed differently and became more influential later. So, I wouldn't necessarily interpret the drama's setting as meaning that historical Thailand was completely accepting of gay relationships. Rather, the social context was simply different from what we might expect based on modern Western perspectives.

Another thing I really appreciated is that there were no unnecessary scenes. Almost everything served a purpose and contributed to either the characters or the progression of the story. Nothing felt like it was there just to fill screen time.

The production was also impressive. I especially loved the old buildings and the way the wartime scenes were presented. The bombs, explosions, and fire actually felt convincing to me. It didn't feel overly dependent on obvious CGI, which I really appreciated because it made the historical setting feel more grounded and authentic.

That said, I really wish we had gotten more of Chat's (Tin's brother) backstory. His attitude toward everything felt like it could have had more depth, and the sibling favoritism alone wasn't quite enough for me to fully understand why he behaved the way he did. I also kept wondering: WHERE IS THEIR MOTHER?

I feel like there was a missed opportunity there. Exploring their family background and explaining why their mother was absent could have added another layer to made Chat's character more understandable.

As for the ending... the plot isn't exactly something new, and it felt quite typical of a Thai drama. I was already predicting that the recovered body wasn't going to be Phob's. So while the execution was emotional, the twist itself wasn't really surprising to me.

And honestly, I was also hoping we would get a GL storyline here! There were hints in the first few episodes that Siri and Jan had some flirty energy with each other, and I was really hoping the series would develop that relationship. Unfortunately, their story seemed to gradually disappear in the later episodes. Such a missed opportunity!

But overall, I loved it.

It has a great main couple, strong chemistry, an interesting historical setting, good production, and a story that actually respects its runtime by making most scenes meaningful. Despite some missed opportunities with the side characters and a predictable ending, I genuinely enjoyed watching this.

As a foreign viewer, this was definitely a refreshing Thai BL to watch.

Are people allergic to good things now?

I don't understand why so many people are unsatisfied with this series. It is very well done and beautifully executed as well. I can't BELIEVE the amount of people hoping that phob had died. Like are people seriously allergic to HAPPY endings or something?

I understand the emotion of bringing more sorrow to the series, but i feel even a very serious and gloomy series can absolutely have a happy ending. Demeaning people by saying things like "they made this a happy ending for them fan girls" is VERY DISRESPECTFUL and RUDE. liking happy endings does not make you less interesting or bare you from having an opinion. Each to their own i guess, but i personally loved the ending! And if that makes me a "fan gurl" then so be it i guess. The story is well written guys, definitely watch it!

Love perseveres.

I am so, so sad right now. I genuinely cannot express how sad I am that this series is over. My heart is hurting in the best way possible because what an outstanding, amazing show. But it's actually over. Three months of watching one of the best series I've ever seen in my life, and I still can't wrap my head around the fact that it is over.

I think I saw the first episode or the first two episodes, and I told, like everyone I knew, that this was gonna be one of the best series I've ever seen in my life. Like, I used to actively go around telling people to watch this show. It's amazing. It's outstanding. And here I am, almost three months later, proven right. And honestly, there's no better feeling.

There are so many aspects of this series that I can write about. But just off the top of my head, the relationship dynamics are outstanding. My friend and I watched this series together for the most part, and our biggest conflict was about the familial relationship between Tin and his father. We used to constantly go back and forth: did his father love him? Did his father not love him? The challenges that Tin was facing. And the wonderful part about watching a show with your friend is that you can go into really heavy detail and discussion about literally everything.

As an individual from the LGBT community, this show hit me really hard. I don't think I really need to explain why, but it really hit me hard. And watching the actors play the role so beautifully made me feel so much joy, yet caused me so much pain, because they were simply that good at their job. Actually, this should have been the first thing I mentioned: the acting. I don't think I've ever seen better acting from any of the actors. But I feel like Ongsa was absolutely outstanding. This is not to discredit any other actor, but Hansa was just so much better in his individual performance that it killed me. He single-handedly destroyed my soul almost every episode.

This is probably a very common favourite scene to have, but Thin begging on his knees to just have the freedom to love who he wants was probably one of the most heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen in my life. I really don't think I need to go into further explanation of why it was so heartbreaking, but it was utterly beautifully portrayed, I would say. As painful as it was, it was very realistic and very painful to watch. When you know you are in pain watching a scene, you know it's good acting, writing, directing, all of the above.

The first half, or the beginning of the series, was very chill, but we didn't know it was chill until we got into the second half. After we got into the second half, we realised, oh wow, it could actually be more intense than what we were expecting. Because the first half itself was so intense. We didn't think it could get worse, but yeah, it did get worse. The whole Phob-Thin dynamic was so horrible to watch. The constant push and pull of they love each other, but Phob is inevitably gonna break Thin's heart, and there's nothing we can do about it. Like, we know it's coming. No divergence's gonna take away from that part of the story. That will happen. It is a fact. But constantly watching the show and expecting the breaking point to come is so anxiety-inducing, but so worth it in the end. I was so mad at Phob, but Thin was truly and utterly forgiving. Tells you a lot about love, huh,

The one thing I did not want was a forced happy ending because, as much as I wanted a happy ending, which I always do, I always want a good ending more. And a forced happy ending is never a good one. Specifically in this situation, I was not able to see how a happy ending would be possible, but I was proven wrong in the best way ever. Another thing I really did not want under any circumstances was Phob dying instead of Thin, because that would immortalise him in the best way possible. Don't get me wrong, I love Phob. He's a wonderful character, but I'm a Thin girlie. Whoever dies at the end is martyred forever, and their death will always leave a greater impact. And honestly, I just didn't want that. I would have been fine with Thin dying, but not Phob. And then he did die, and there was a fifteen-minute segment where I was pissed. I was so mad. I was, like, from episode one to the end, I was, like, ten out of ten, ten out of ten, ten out of ten, and then suddenly I was considering giving it a nine, because that's a terrible ending. But it's my fault; how dare I doubt the director? All's well that ends well.

So then again we come to my very last yet important point. This was one of the best shows I have ever watched in my life. Best BL ever. Like, out of all the BLs I have seen, and I have seen so many, this is number one. Easy. It's so difficult to find good deals because the quality is just not as great as other shows get for some reason. So when you find something good, you really latch on to it. And this show isn't something I would call good. I would call this brain chemistry-altering, amazing, outstanding, perfect. I am truly in love with this drama, and it genuinely breaks my heart that it's over. Am I happy that it's happened? Yes. Am I sad that it's over? Yes. But I'm very happy that it has happened. I'm gonna remember this for a very long time.

THE HOTTEST & ANGSTIEST DRAMA EVER

This drama was literally a masterpiece. It had the perfect amount of angst, romance, cute moments, yearning, heartbreak, and everything in between. It made me bawl my eyes out more times than I can count. The way it handled angst was genuinely beautiful, especially because the characters were so complex that you could never truly hate anyone. You could only understand them. And one thing was so obvious throughout the entire story: these two were absolutely, madly, ridiculously in love with each other.

Their breakup, the years of yearning, the sacrifices, the sadness, everything was done so beautifully. And the sexual tension? Insane. The chemistry between them was unreal. Even the kisses in the first few episodes felt completely earned. They were not randomly thrown in just for the sake of having romantic scenes. Every kiss had emotional weight, meaning, and tension behind it. They felt necessary, like the characters had been holding back for so long that when it finally happened, it actually meant something. And damn, those kisses were HOT. The chemistry was genuinely off the charts.

This is not your typical historical drama. It is so much more than that. It has love, yearning, heartbreak, angst, sacrifice, complicated characters, and a relationship that feels incredibly deep and real. The female characters were amazing, the costumes and styling were gorgeous, and everything about the presentation was beautiful.

I genuinely cannot emphasize enough how much I loved this. It is unlike any historical drama I have watched before. Their relationship was beautiful, the angst was immaculate, the chemistry was insane, and the kisses were hot as hell. This is the kind of drama that everyone needs to watch. A complete masterpiece.

Beautiful, emotional and realistic...

So... they saved it last minute... I seriously did believe that Phob is dead and I actually liked that ending. Not because I love sad endings, not because I didn't want them to be happy, but because this series was once again literally screaming for it. The last minutes feels kinda forced... It doesn't mean I don't like anymore, trust me I do love it with all my heart, I just think that Phob didn't have to end aline and perfectly fine... Some injury would make it maybe even better. He already has a scar on his hand, so why not give him another?

But... It doesn't change my opinion about whole series. This year is full of BLs that are just about cute or popular faces but not actual story we could enjoy and literally live through. This one belongs to the minority of 2026 BLs that I'll probably never forget. It's beutiful, cute, romantic, meaningful, realistic, emotional but also cruel and what I like the most is that the production decided not to play these typical Thai "sunshine and rainbow" games. In my terminology, it means that everything is overly cute and in the end no matter what happens, everyone ends up happy. Well, yes, Phob being alive is totally forced happyending, but Vasin and Chat are in prison, they still don't really like Phob and so on...

You can clearly see, from very first until the very last minutes, that production and people involved in making this series put a huge amount of effort into it. Every single scene, every single moment and every single second of it feels so magical and real at the same time. Inn and Ongsa have an insane chemistry and I hope I'll see them together again. The way they portraid Phob and Tin was never caual. From the beginning, we could see that they not only cared about each other, but their feelings were truly genuine from the much longer begore this series started. They had to overcome some obstacles, they were separated and reunited, stayed on different sides in revolution and they were so close to being enemies, but they actually never hated each other. Tin loved Phob so deeply that even in the moment he could turn his love into hatred, he deciced not to and instead of saying "I don't want to see you ever again", he said "I understand you and I wish you'll be successful."

I've read that this story is based on reality, but I'm not sure if it's true. The revolution is, but the lovestory doesn't have to be. If it is, I'm so happy they decided to show it to international fans and if it isn't, I'm so happy they were able to make this beautiful lovestory in this serious and dangerious era of Siamese history.

The charcter that made me really conflicted was Chat. I liked him and I wanted to protect him. At the same time I wanted to punch him. Really hard. I believed he has reasons why he acted like this, he was jelous over Tin, overlooked by father and basically looked down by everyone. But... It still didn't give him any rights to act like this. From the certain moment, not even a devil judge like me could justify him anymore. But deep down I knew he'd get some kind of redemption arch and I was right. It wasn't exactly a redemption like you'd expect, but in the end he came to his senses even tho it was too late. Well, maybe if situation was different, some bad things didn't have to happen...

Overall... As I already said, I probably won't forget this series anytime soon. It was incredible, amazing and so powerful. All of the emotions I could feel through the screen of my laptop and I put both headphones into my ears, it felt like I was actually there.

I think we have a winner of best Thai BL series from 2026. I know there are 4 months ahead of us, I know that some other pairs have much bigger fandoms, but objectivelly, I can't imagine anything better. They just set the bar really high...
