This serie was a standout from dramas im watching, the natural landscapes, the visuals and unique cinematography was captivating and refreshing, it was relaxing watching it weeklyStoryline wise it was beautiful, the chemistry, how Nothing felt forced between actors, so natural, the intimacy was one of best i watched
QL the actors from shiny yet demanding world met CY, the 20 years old tea farmer, who is charming, caring and attentive, their love was heartwarming, the obstacles they faced were realistic And not out of plot conveniences, if i start with every details about their relationship this review will be long, so just watch them
The 2nd couple were an example of real couple on-screen and offscreen facing all brutal industry demands and standards, they were like a version Of QL and Shi Yuhao (the ex) but the difference these two worked all their problems and changed themselves to make their relationship work unlike how things went with QL and his ex
Sister Lan, a Centric character even when she left us quickly, her philosophy and the way she Handled things and took care of her artists was what made all her people stand strong, even after she left, she felt present till the end
QT, My shaylas whom's death was sudden, unexpected but thats what made it feel so real, we saw all his loved one grieve on their own way, he didn't get to be happy in life so i hope he is in peace💔😭😔
Anyway this is getting long, just watch this show if you enjoy slow beautiful storytelling and visuals
And no im not forgetting siste's lan wife neither brother Guo, mvp of the serie, love you

Just watch it, it's really worthy
The acting is really on point, the kissing scenes are beautifully acted and they add more with hugs, lingering moments, stare (glares sometimes) and a sense of longing. Between ep 15 - 16 the story seems to be a little stirrid up, but maybe is the story itself that dragged some situations without fully understanding the reasons behind them. Anyway they are great actors and i'm sorry that they probaby can not work together in another project due to the toxic fan or the implicit rule that "one is enough".C BLs are really something else in 2025 and 2026.

What to Expect Before You Watch
A Winter Sun feels like poetry, raw, beautiful, and straight from the heart. The landscapes are breathtaking, the music is absolutely beautiful, and even the tea-making process is so calming to watch. The scenery is just stunning. Everything about this series feels carefully crafted and full of emotion. I’ve been watching bls since 2016, and i can honestly say this is my best BL so far.
If you want a soft bl, you should also understand that Zelia (the director/writer) didn’t sugarcoat everything. A Winter Sun may be beautiful and romantic, but it also shows that life doesn’t always go the way we expect. Things can happen suddenly, people can be taken from us, and sometimes we don’t get the chance to say everything we wanted to say. It’s a reminder to cherish the people you love while you have them, appreciate the moments you share, and never take their presence for granted. That’s what makes the story feel so real and emotional to me.
Zelia leaves a lot of things open to interpretation. Some things are never fully explained, and it feels like she wants us to come to our own conclusions and find our own answers. Honestly, even a bee buzzing and flying past feels like it was intentionally placed there for a reason. One of the reasons i respect Zelia so much is because of how A Winter Sun explores so many important and realistic topics, stalking, obsessive fans, family, blackmail, the personal struggles bl actors can face behind the scenes, and cancel culture. You can genuinely tell this was a well-crafted bl, with so much thought put into the story and the world around the characters.
The Main Couple: Feng Qinglang & Xu Changyang:
Feng Qinglang is a famous actor in China, while Xu Changyang is the illegitimate son of a wealthy family—and honestly, Changyang is the greenest flag ever. Their chemistry is absolutely beautiful. The way Changyang spoils his man has to be one of the sweetest things ever. I genuinely don’t think a man like him exists in real life because this man is 100% perfect.
Their kisses, the flirting, the little looks, and especially the way they speak to each other in soft whispers—it’s all so intimate and beautiful. You can literally feel how deeply they adore each other.
The Main Couple: Hao Yu & Han Lu:
It sometimes saddens me to see that so many people didn’t like Hao Yu and Han Lu or their characters. I thought they were adorable.
Hao Yu is emotional, impulsive, and sometimes selfish, he doesn't always make the right choices, especially when his feelings get involved. Han Lu is more guarded and controlled, he doesn't openly show his feelings and can come across as cold or difficult to understand. I think it helps to understand that they are not meant to be perfect or easy to love characters.
From my own understanding, Hao Yu and Han Lu are like a mirror of Feng Qinglang and Xu Changyang, showing a similar cycle of love, misunderstandings, emotional distance, and pain, but with their own personalities and story.
The couple that was meant to be:
Wenshu and Qingtian story is beautiful and yet still hurt me, and i really, really don’t want to talk about them because their story makes me way too emotional.
A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hills' Dream is one of those rare bls that stays with you long after you finish watching. The storytelling is beautiful and takes you through so many different human emotions.

A series that goes beyond the “BL category.”
Best BL of the year. And I can safely say it’s one of the best BLs of all time! It’s a series that talks about the philosophy of life, death, and nature. It also touches on important issues such as homophobia, internet culture — including cancel culture and shipping culture — and the pressure within the audiovisual industry. On top of that, it has a very well-written plot, wonderful performances, extraordinary chemistry between the main couple, splendid cinematography, and a soundtrack that doesn’t disappoint. It’s a work that requires a little patience, as it has a slow, detail-rich pace, but in the end it’s all worth it. It’s a series you’ll want to rewatch several times to pick up on all the details. And anyone who liked Your Name Engraved Herein by Kuang-Hui Liu and Happy Together by Wong Kar-Wai will definitely fall in love with A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hills’ Dream, as it’s on the same production level as those two great works.
I also want to mention that one of the series’ greatest strengths is the way writer/director Zelia managed to address important themes masterfully and gave me great lessons about the cycle of life. I’m eager to follow her future projects.
And for anyone who loves a happy ending, you won’t be disappointed. Yes, it has a happy ending! ❤️

Their chemistry is top tier!!
I really enjoyed this drama. The story has a warm and emotional atmosphere, and the characters are easy to get invested in. I especially liked how the drama balances its more serious moments with softer and more heartfelt scenes. The pacing can feel a little slow at times, but it gives the characters enough room to develop. Overall, it’s a beautiful and engaging drama that kept me interested and made me want to keep watching. Was this review helpful to you?

Beautiful story, Both actors are so talented and so invested, their chemistry is just too good. Above all, the cinematography is top notch. Absolutely treat to watch.

Beautiful Cinematography, Quiet Intimacy, Atmospheric Storytelling
Still watching this, but I have to say the cinematography is exceptional.More than simply looking beautiful, the visuals actively support the story. For me, that has been the show’s greatest strength.
Now about the story, this isn’t a typical surface-level BL. The premise seems relatively simple, but it’s told with a surprising amount of depth. It explores realistic queer experiences. The themes are woven into everyday interactions.
This isn’t a conventional CBL, and I think that’s exactly why it’s working so well so far.
Note: if you’re looking for a series driven by frequent, explicit NC scenes, this probably won’t be for you. Personally, I don’t mind the lack of them. In fact, I think the censored approach contributes to the show’s overall atmosphere. It keeps the focus on the characters, their emotional connection, and the quiet intimacy that the cinematography captures so beautifully.
Another pleasant surprise is the format. (CBL fans know this is a rarity) At over 40 minutes per episode across 16 episodes, so we would go through every single emotional beat.
The show is still ongoing, but so far I have nothing but positive things to say.
If you’re looking for a Chinese BL that features thoughtful storytelling, stunning cinematography, nuanced queer representation, emotional depth, and a slower, more atmospheric approach, then you must watch this one.
Edit: Finished watching this today and what an amazing journey it has been! This was a good watch. Yeah, my favourite Chinese BL of all time. I love it and love it again.

China does it again with another BL masterpiece
The story was so good and complete, most of all the beautiful love story and all the preparations Chang Yang made for meeting Qing Lang. But also addressing the toxic shipping culture, the sometimes unreasonable/indecent private expectations of investors(Investor for Han Lu). Companies and actors who use mean tricks and the toxic shipping culture to make money. And on the bright sight pointing out that there are also good companies like the company of sister Lan, Just being a fair boss and also allowing their actors to date.
The production did amazing!!! Stunning visuals and music!
The smooth transitions between different scenes and stunning cinematography, one of my favorites is the stairwell scene in the beginning of episode 12.
Sound effects can often be too much, but in this drama they were all perfectly placed.
I also liked how everything that was happening on the phone showed on the screen.
Just a small detail, but the mains ringtones are the OST of the drama, love that!
It had love, joy, sorrow, every emotion was felt very intens!
All the actors did a great job, i really hated Xu Luxiao and Shi Yuhao. And my favorite characters besides Qing Lang and Chang Yang are Sister Lan, Qing Tian, Grandma and brother Guo, they just left a huge impression on me.
I loved the brother dynamics of Qing Tian and Qing Lang.
Hu Yi Chen is an amazing actor, I loved him in Secrets Happened on the Litchi Island and he was just as amazing in this drama. I hope to see him star in a lot more drama's in the future.
The chemistry of the mains was just out of this world, and they had the best kisses and so much kissing scenes!
The second couple was cute too, their chemistry and kisses were good too.
I already re-watched it and will do so many more times in the future, this became one of my all time favorites.

Probably the calmest and most beautiful drama I have ever watched
This drama is different from all the others I’ve seen so far. It’s calm, almost serene. The story develops naturally at a pace that is neither boring nor hurried. What makes this drama especially interesting is that the story is shown rather than told. You have to pay attention, because there is very little exposition or explanation. Instead, the drama lets emotions, small moments, and the characters’ actions speak for themselves.
There are no fast cuts, and the scenes are long and almost tranquil. It’s relaxing and heartfelt, yet it still managed to make me shed a tears.
I highly recommend this drama. And make sure to watch the credit and post credit scenes.

THE LOVE THAT HEALS !!
I genuinely don’t know how this drama managed to make me feel so much with so little. 😭 This isn’t just a BL about two people falling in love....it’s about two people slowly finding somewhere they can finally breathe. Qinglang has fame, money, and everything from the outside yet he’s clearly exhausted. Then comes Changyang living quietly among the mountains and tea fields and somehow this man becomes his safe place. Their relationship is slow, soft, and painfully real. AND THE WAY THEY YEARN FOR EACH OTHER...The best non-toxic BL ever. It’s healing, mature, soft and somehow still INTENSE AS HELL. And the chemistry??? INSANE....The smallest looks have me screaming. They barely have to say anything and I’m already emotionally finished🥹🥹What hits deepest is how this drama treats love as something that gives you freedom not something that cages you. But when fame, expectations and the outside world start closing in then you really feel how fragile that kind of happiness can be. It's about choosing love in a world which expects you to choose everything else But these characters still chose love over everything else first.
I'M SO EMOTIONAL WHILE BIDDING THEM GOODBYE....My changyang and qinglang you'll always be a part of my beautiful memories... I never knew I'll be so attached to them....
I'm not OKAY ..I haven't been okay from the day they started looking at each other with those loving Eyes. 🥹🥹🥹

the first ten mins is all you need to know
By far the most beautiful BL I have seen since 2017 when I started my first series.I can't even tell you a partciular scene that stuck with me because all of them did. The golden duvet and that warmth of the sun, the opening shot with the car made me realise I was getting far more than what I was anticipating.
The framing, lighting and angles are simply eye watering, the cinematography is sublime. I think I have fallen in love, and it's no exaggeration. Someone in the comments said this is like "poetry in motion", a moving painting, and it couldn't be a better description.
This drama may not be for everyone: the story is slow, it begs patience from the viewer, and it will reach the right audience. It's more about experience (like art) than consumption. And whoever made this is clearly an artist.
It doesn't feel like a BL at all, but a slow, beguiling documentary about everyday people, even making stars and crew seem mundane and very much human. And that's exactly what this drama feels like - human, and so simple yet complex.
The only thing that's left to be determined is the acting. I feel there's not much expressions that tell a story (but it supports the viewer experience as a documentary), so I can't comment too much on this yet other than this. But the cinematography and music alone should make A Winter Sun be hailed as a "must watch"
Go and feast your eyes.
