Interesting to pathetic plot
Alright the first episodes were realistic and interesting. Loads and loads of drama, and even though some parts were cringe, they were pretty realistic so i watched it.But after 7th episode, the story just went overboard.
I was like "what's with the pathetic excuse of a plot" it's like they were trying extra hard to make things worse in the story.
People with weak heart don't watch it. The plot is very dark and i felt it was full of unnecessary grief and all other negative emotions u could name of.
Anyways, i thought it was a waste of time and i could've just avoided feeling all heavy.
But things to be appreciated, the chemistry between the couples are super good. The actors are veryyyyy handsome and attractive and I loved their acting and almost everything..... except the PLOT 😭.

I don't usually write reviews, but this series genuinely made me want to.
The first thing I have to talk about is the acting. Both lead actors were absolutely amazing. Nothing felt forced or overly dramatic. Every emotion felt real, whether it was happiness, jealousy, frustration, heartbreak, or love. There were so many moments where they didn't even need dialogue because their expressions alone said everything. That's what made this drama so special to me.
What impressed me the most was how natural their chemistry felt. It never looked like two actors trying to play a couple. It felt like two people genuinely connected to each other. Because of that, I became emotionally invested in their journey very quickly. I found myself smiling during the cute moments and feeling emotional during the difficult ones.
I also watched a lot of the behind-the-scenes content, and that honestly made me appreciate the series even more. Seeing how comfortable they were with each other and how much effort they put into their roles made the final result feel even more meaningful. You can tell that both actors cared deeply about the characters they were portraying.
Another thing I loved was that I was never bored. Not once. Usually, even dramas I enjoy have a few episodes that feel slow or make me want to skip ahead. With this series, every episode kept my attention. I was always excited to see what would happen next, and before I knew it, I had finished the whole thing.
The music was beautiful, the emotional scenes hit hard, and the overall production quality was great. Everything came together perfectly.
This was honestly one of the most enjoyable BLs I've watched. The emotions felt genuine, the performances were incredible, and the story kept me invested from beginning to end. It's rare for a drama to make me feel this attached to the characters, but this one definitely did.
A very easy 10/10 from me, and I would happily watch it again.

MUST WATCH!!!!!
I swear I was NOT gonna watch this bcz I'm not a huge fan of Chinese BLs!! Just playing it in the background and then BOOM — their acting in that one scene??? I actually gasped. No exaggeration, just pure acting and I felt everything 😭 I paused, rewound, and suddenly I’m like “cancel my plans, I need to see more of them RIGHT NOW.” Binged watched three episodes later at 2 am and I’m fully obsessed. The talent and acting is unreal!!Hats off to Ayden and Elio 👏 I'll definitely tune in if they are casted as a cp in another BL

10 episodes in and I still can’t decide how this will turn out
Up to and including episode 10:I’ve never read the story (haven’t been able to find it in English yet) but every part of the story line has me feeling sick with frustration that these two characters seem destined to rip each other’s hearts out again and again yet naively I’m praying they get their happy ending.
The acting is utterly brilliant and painfully real so that you quickly become invested in a plot which follows the two main characters as they fall deeply in love while at school but are ripped apart by family expectations and loyalty. Toxic parents, sacrifice, guilt and jealousy, you name it, this drama has it all. Will their love survive the trials it is being put under and will their siblings actually accept them for who they are? 10 episodes in and I’m so desperate for them to get their happy ending even though right now, new road blocks block their paths back to each other. This is chef’s kiss angst.
The supporting cast are equally well acted and compelling and although I hate Yichen’s mother, I can see why she piled on the massive guilt trip that led to him sacrificing his own happiness for his younger brother. I can also see why Lu Feng’s sister is equally determined to make him conform to their father’s expectations. Additionally the second male leads are also on point - well cast and with depth to their characters. They portray flawed and complex humans and although initially Yichen’s brother is his biggest supporter and determined that he also deserves to be happy as time goes on I can see him doing a complete 180 as circumstances change in this roller coaster ride.
I’ve only ever binge watched BL stories before and it’s killing me that I’m having to wait a week for the next two episodes.
Will I watch this again? Absolutely bl**dy right I will

I don't understand how you can enjoy something that is violence and rape??? Therefore, you are as sick as the screenwriter of this stupid series and the director. You should see a psychiatrist

Toxic BL done RIGHT
I wanna start this off by saying this was done so well.Lu Feng was a red flag, and not one was that glossed over or made out to be something romantic. He was toxic, abusive and violently obsessed, everyone knew it and no one tried to deny that.
I was genuinely worried how they were going to end this on a happy note--but the diagnosis and psychiatrist route was not what I was expecting at all.
You find out over time that Yichen, while being a victim in it most of the time, still loved him regardless. A lot can be said about how this is a dynamic that you see a lot in abusive relationships, but things really changed when he told his brother that he was going to do what he wanted even after all the bullshit Lu Feng put him through.
Bipolar Disorder is no joke, and absolutely does not excuse anything he put Yichen through, but the diagnosis and commitment to treatment ultimately saved their whole relationship. At that point the dynamic kind of switched a bit, Yichen was in control of their relationship, Lu Feng had two options: either get treatment in order for their relationship to succeed, or lose Yichen forever--the one thing that terrified him the most and the biggest trigger of his mood disorder.
I love a good toxic bl, but I *hate* when its glorified as romance and, in my opinion, I think this was done properly.
Ayden and Sitong are brilliant actors.
If anyone keeps up with the bts and various public appearances you know they definitely take care of each other and look after one another, I am just hoping and praying for their safety and sanity.
All in all I was very impressed and I am so looking forward to more from them both.

Immersive and toxic black flag fest
This drama deserves a 10/10 rating, but I refuse to give it. Because there is 1 HUGE flaw and I will adress it at the start. Lu Feng rapes Yi Chen multiple times. Once in the first few episodes and more than once when Lu Feng imprisons Yi Chen. The rapes are not explicit, only suggested but it's clear it happened. And because I don't believe it's in any way enhancing the story I will not rate it 10/10.The story is not even what makes this drama so good. It's the acting and the chemistry between the actors. But about that later. Let's talk about the story first. It's a classic "big strong popular guy falls for nerdy weak boy" Both of them are from important rich families and have a reputation to protect. In china this means not being gay, get married to a good match and have children to please your parents. Despite the Big Love these guys have, they are not able to fight the parental expectations. Lu Feng suffers physical abuse from his father and Yi Chen is being pushed and manipulated into denying his true feelings and not hurting his mother and brother. But as things go with Big Love, it can't be denied for long and things progress between them regardless.
We can see Lu Feng being manipulative while doing whatever he wants from the start. He doesn't really seem to care abour Yi Chens feelings and shows up or stays away whenever he pleases. Never explaining, never apologizing. Whenever Yi Cheng dares to protest, he either physically or mentally pushes him into submission. The way I have screamed at him through the screen...
All this uglyness is always forgiven by Yi Chen, who is the sweetest innocent boy that keeps forgiving and is just too much in love to care about the abuse and toxicity.
Until....
Everything culminates when Yi Chens mother dies after talking to Lu Feng, and at that same day Lu Feng (kind of accidentally) throws Yi Chengs brother from the stairs breaking so many bones he could be crippled for life. This is when they finally break up. But not for good of course, because this is Big And Obsessive Love. From both sides. So they eventually meet again and the toxicity chemistry and love all continue at the same time. As a viewer it was frustrating, confusing and blissful all at once. Lu Feng goes as far as to lock Yi Chen up, because Yi Chen has grown up and won't be manipulated as easily anymore. Even after he releases him, it takes several more outburst of (near) violence before we eventually find out what caused all this lunacy and Lu Feng finally deals with himself in the way that he should and the toxicity ends so that they can have a healthy love.
I could write a million words to describe the feelings this series gave me. I guess it's kind of like base jumping or shark diving. You know you could die, but you do it anyway for the adrenaline. Never in my real life would I accept a relationship like this. I mean, run like the wind in the other direction. But in a romance drama? With this acting and chemistry? Yes please.

Black Flag, Toxic, Dark Romance CBL of the Year
June 13, 2026Holy shit, Double Helix is that angsty BL that will drive you insane and genuinely will question your morals both in good and a bad way. I truly think that there are a lot people who says that this show is bad due to the toxicity of the leads. I do get that take however the nuance of the characters really shows how reality of love be. It is uncertainty crack-infused, filled with rage, and yes loving to the point of losing your own sanity. Granted, it is not something that people want to experience but this is also a reality for some people.
I truly get Lu Feng and Yi Chen, they both are very different individual who have different background and priorities. Lu Feng is more like the go-getter man, who is willing to stand up over everything, go against all odds, a crazy manipulative yearner. While Yi Chen is a glass, parentified child, who feels in-debted to his parents, can't stand on his own because he is scared of hurting everyone else while that means he is hurting who he loves the most, doormat but kind person. That is the thing about these leads, they are just realistic people, they aren't solely 'green-flag' coded characters. And I truly think that this why I have such strong attachment to the storyline, regardless of what people say about its toxicity.
Those two truly deserved each other, I think that having the obstacles be cleared really just needed to happen. And truly its just a reality for gay couples with homophobic families and unsafe environment. Lu Feng and Yi Cheng, they both are just men who wanted to be loved, expressed their love, and be accepted and supported. I truly will miss Double Helix and I can't wait to rewatch this all-over again in the near future! Adiossss

No end to love
We need a special episode because this drama was amazing. The concept was unique and emotional. The love story between the two main characters felt natural, sincere, and realistic. The acting was outstanding, and every actor did a great job portraying their emotions. The director presented the story beautifully, and the chemistry between the leads was excellent. The drama showed the true meaning of love, trust, and sacrifice. Every episode kept me interested, and the ending left a strong impression on me. Thank you to the cast and crew for bringing such a wonderful story to life. I highly recommend this drama to everyone. Was this review helpful to you?

If you don't enjoy dark romance, this is not for you
This drama was toxic, it started as cute love story between lufeng and XC duribg theor university years than sh*t went downhill quickly, the moment their relationship got exposed, the homophobic families that made sure to break them over and over againLufeng loved xc in crazy unhealthy way, he made him his whole world and the moment that world broke, LF broke as well
Xc in other hand loved LF but never choose him, always choose easy roote, leaving lf, marrying someone else to olease him mom.. Etc, he was indecisive throughout the storyline and it made him frustrating at certain point, he always bend to others expectations, listen to his family, to his brother, which portrayed him as selfless and kinda but when it come to lufeng he was cruel and coward
Them together was hard to watch after the 5 years gap, LF actions were criminal, xc didn't deserve that, but once again thewe two found a way to be with eo and heal slowly from the trauma
That fcking 2nd couple giving us nothing but headache, i hated yichen and will hate him forever, most hypocritic annoying character that obsessed with his brother love life, pmo so bad.
The acting was good, some editing choices were bad but the quality of show still good
Overall i e'joyed this roller-coaster, may this love never find me

An absolute roller coaster of emotions, as brilliant as it is destructive.
Double Helix is the textbook definition of how a story can plunge you into a brutal spiral of toxicity and yet keep you completely glued to the screen. This series is not for the faint of heart: manipulation, kidnapping, abuse, and twisted family dynamics intertwine in a plot full of ups and downs that doesn't give you a single second to breathe. It starts at a good pace, but when it decides to derail into absolute chaos, it goes all out.The story follows Lu Feng and Cheng Yi, two guys who lived through a high school romance, only for their families to oppose it and force them apart. Years later, destiny reunites them as boss and employee. The first two episodes focus on the flashbacks of their past relationship; the chemistry here is beautiful, and you can already feel their mutual obsession.
However, the real weight of the drama rests entirely on the evolution of its protagonists, and the contrast between them is truly worth analyzing:
Ayden Sng (Lu Feng) | Simply brilliant: He perfectly conveys the psyche of a character who is completely unstable, obsessive, and quite literally, lovesick. His performance is masterful. Lu Feng has an unyielding love for Cheng Yi, and because of that, he endures everything: his father's beatings and the utter contempt for his sexual orientation. That's why it's understandable that he struggles so much to accept Cheng Yi's rejection, even if navigating the situation with two deeply homophobic families is unbearable. I don't condone his later behavior, but I can understand it: giving absolutely everything and receiving nothing but indifference in return can drive anyone to despair.
Lu Si Tong (Cheng Yi) | An acting dilemma: His performance leaves me conflicted. Although he delivers and I'd give him a 10, his attitude drives me crazy at times. I don't know if it was a script requirement to reflect shock or submission, but his constant lethargic expression gave the impression that he was "asleep" to the chaos surrounding him. Cheng Yi gives in to his family's homophobia and allows himself to be manipulated by his mother and brother (two unbearable characters), constantly rejecting Lu Feng and causing him to lose his temper. It is incredibly cruel how he refuses to defend the only person who sacrificed everything for him. He is portrayed as a kind, people-pleasing person, but that supposed "goodness" turns into cowardice and cruelty when it comes to Lu Feng, making him the root cause of Lu Feng's pain.
On the other hand, I really liked the second couple, and I must admit they improved my opinion of Yi Chen. Although I hated how he treated his brother at first, being with Qin Lang forces him to step into his brother's shoes and finally understand him a bit more.
Despite how twisted and toxic the plot can get (or perhaps precisely because of it), the drama perfectly achieves what it sets out to do: shock and obsess the viewer. You just can't look away from the trainwreck. This series isn't for everyone, but for lovers of intense psychological drama, it is an absolute must-watch.
