Actress Jeong In Ji shares her thoughts on playing Doh Kyung Soo's on-screen nanny in the Disney+ original series The Manipulated.

Recently, Jeong In Ji had a post-finale interview for The Manipulated in Seoul.

The Manipulated is an action drama that follows Tae Jung (Ji Chang Wook), an ordinary man who gets wrongfully imprisoned for a heinous crime, only to discover that everything was orchestrated by Yo Han (Doh Kyung Soo). He then sets out to take revenge on him.

In the K-drama, Jeong played Yo Han's closest aide, the nanny. The drama shows that Yo Han poured mercury into the nanny's eyes to blind her in order to keep her by his side. To portray the state of a visually impaired person, the actress wore white contact lenses. Because of this, she delivered realistic acting while actually having severely limited vision.

She expressed the difficulties she faced on set, saying, "When filming outdoors, I could see well, but when filming indoors in the dark, I couldn't see well. The staff's clothes, the equipment, and the props were all black, so it was even harder to see."

The nanny's blind love and trust toward Yo Han shocked many viewers. "I thought it was understandable because she is Johan’s biological mother. Although not much of her story is revealed, seeing her son happy and enjoying himself would have been happiness from the nanny's perspective. Putting aside everything else, I think that was where she started." She continued, "As a person, of course, there are many parts I can't understand, but I acted following the director's idea that 'the nanny is Yo Han's only ally.'"

The nanny also occasionally shows a level of wickedness comparable to Yo Han's. Because of this, some viewers speculated, "Could she be Yo Han's mastermind?" In response, Jeong In Ji laughed and said, "I was very grateful. There were several possible endings for the nanny, but during filming, I didn't know which ending it would be. So I acted without showing [any] emotion too strongly."

The Manipulated is streaming on Disney+.
