'Mr. Sunshine' actress Kim Tae Ri to possibly return to the small screen with new K-drama
Kim Dae Myung transforms into a compassionate lawyer in The Art of Negotiation.
The Art of Negotiation is an office drama that follows the exploits of the ace negotiator Yoon Joo No (Lee Je Hoon) — a corporate M&A expert — and his team.
On February 10, the production team released an interview with the Hospital Playlist actor Kim Dae Myung, who plays Oh Soon Young in the K-drama.
Oh Soon Young, a lawyer in the M&A team of Sanin Group, is a warm-hearted character with connections far and wide. While his fellow team members focus on corporate interests (profits and losses) and mergers and acquisitions, he tries to bring warmth and compassion to the group.
Regarding his character, Kim Dae Myung explained, "He's someone who takes a small step back to observe the team, lightens the mood with jokes, and offers comfort, but when it comes to his work, he is stronger [more determined] than anyone else." "He's the kind of person I aspire to be. I built this character with the hope of having someone like Soon Young around me."
Talking about his character transformation, Kim Dae Myung said, "For the character's appearance, I talked to the director and tried to incorporate a lot of the clothing and accessories I usually wear." "I focused not only on making the character feel like someone from our everyday lives but also someone who listens more attentively to what the other party and his teammates say."
The actor also shared his thoughts on working with director Ahn Pan Seok, saying, "I really wanted to work with director Ahn Pan Seok, for whom I have always had [immense] respect." On working with him, he added, "It's my first time working with the director, and it was a really valuable experience where I was able to learn a lot. The director always gave the actors space to imagine and envision [the scene to shape their performances] first, allowing us to explore the characters and the story in depth and searching for what feels most real."
Kim Dae Myung highlighted the appeal of The Art of Negotiation, saying, "Behind the intense theme of M&A lies a warm and heartfelt story."
He added, "Despite [what] the title [suggests], the drama tells a much more endearing and heartwarming story. We'll be coming to you on a warm day soon, so please wait just a little longer."
The Art of Negotiation will premiere on March 8. The K-drama is reported to stream on Viki.
