Lee Hee Joon, Han Ji Min, and Lee Byung Hun confirm casting in new Disney+ original series The Koreans.

Korean reimagining of The Americans, The Koreans is set against the backdrop of Seoul in the 1990s and unfolds within an apartment complex inhabited by middle-class families of the time. It is set to capture the spirit of the era through a diverse range of characters, emotionally resonant storytelling, and gripping tension.

Lee Byung Hun takes on the role of Kim Myung Joon, an elite North Korean spy who has been living in South Korea for over a decade while concealing his true identity.

Han Ji Min plays Yoon Hwa Kyung, a North Korean spy who has settled in South Korea as part of a meticulously constructed cover marriage with Kim Myung Joon.

Lee Hee Joon takes on the role of Cha Gi Seok, a counterintelligence detective with experience in the violent crimes unit, who moves in next door to Kim Myung Joon and Yoon Hwa Kyung.

The psychological tension and clashes in relationships of these three actors are expected to deliver a gripping sense of immersion and a distinct tone that sets the series apart from typical espionage dramas.

Ahn Gil Ho (Marry My Husband: JapanHappinessRecord of YouthMemories of the AlhambraStranger) will be helming, with script from Park Eun Kyo (Made in KoreaA Normal Family, and The Silent Sea).

The Koreans will be released exclusively on Disney+ in 2027. Stay tuned!
