On February 10, 2026, the production team of The Golden Bough (literal title) held its commencement ceremony, attended by the leads Li Yi Tong and Chen Xing Xu.
The Golden Bough tells the story of Chen Que Er, a woman of low status, who changes her destiny. Actress Li Yi Tong commented on the core of her character, saying she was drawn in by the heroine's unwavering spirit of writing her own destiny and not following the path laid out for her. She also repeatedly thanked the director, screenwriter, and the team.
Chen Xing Xu candidly said, "Nobody told me to memorize a speech before I came here," and promised, "I'll play the role well." He briefly offered thanks to the director, Tencent Video, and the screenwriter. The actor's statement quickly climbed trending charts on Chinese social media.
Online reactions to Chen Xing Xu's remark are sharply split.
Supporters argue he's not into empty formalities — his speech was short but sincere. Some netizens also link this to his past interviews, saying he's repeatedly stressed that he "doesn't really put on airs."
