Park Ji Hoon has declined a boxer role.
On May 21, a representative from Park Ji Hoon's agency told Ilgan Sports, "He has declined the offer to star in the tvN drama Promoter." Following the decision, the production team is reportedly now considering a new lead actor.
Promoter is a human sports drama that tells the story of Shim Young Ja, the world's first female promoter, and hardworking boxer Jang Jung Gu. Park Ji Hoon had been in talks to play Jang Jung Gu, a WBC light flyweight boxer, in the series.
Jang Jung Gu is a character blessed with exceptional talent but who repeatedly suffers setbacks at the threshold of victory.
Anticipation had been building for Park Ji Hoon's challenge of portraying a boxer alongside performing in the Busan dialect, making the news all the more unfortunate for those who had been looking forward to it.
Meanwhile, Park Ji Hoon is currently starring in the TVING original series The Legend of Kitchen Soldier, streaming on Viki and HBO Max.
