Ryu Jun Yeol, Sul Kyung Gu, and Lee Kyu Hyung talk Netflix K-drama 'Mousetrap'

Netflix has unveiled new stills for its upcoming series Mousetrap, featuring Ryu Jun Yeol. 

Mousetrap is a mystery chase thriller that follows Moon Jae (Ryu Jun Yeol), whose name, face, and entire life are stolen by a mysterious man known as "The Rat".

The stills are reminiscent of the folktale "The Field Rat That Ate a Fingernail", which served as the K-drama's inspiration. It tells the story of a field mouse that eats a person's fingernail and then transforms into an identical version of that person, taking over his life in his place.

The released stills show Moon Jae cutting his fingernails, as well as Moon Jae and The Rat facing each other across a barbed-wire fence. 

Ryu Jun Yeol shared, "I thought that the reality of modern society, where we have no choice but to define ourselves through a few things — our outward appearance, identification cards, and the things that prove who we are — is well reflected in Mousetrap."

Sul Kyung Gu likewise related to the premise of the series, which hits close to reality, saying, "There is something chilling about how easily a person can be socially erased when they are not authenticated within a notarization system, and being easily swayed by what is visible on the surface is a characteristic of modern society."

Lee Kyu Hyung commented, "The thought that, because of the overwhelming amount of personal information out there, someone could take my life away from me if they really set their mind to it, gave me chills." 

Director Kim Hong Sun added, "Similar things are already happening, and as more and more people are living alone, I think this is something that could realistically happen."

Mousetrap will be released exclusively on Netflix on August 28.
