Nine Puzzles has released a behind-the-scenes video showing Son Suk Ku and Kim Da Mi introducing their characters.
Nine Puzzles is a mystery thriller that follows Yun Yi Na (Kim Da Mi), a criminal profiler who was the sole witness of an unsolved case from ten years ago, and violent crimes Detective Han Saem (Son Suk Ku), who was the lead investigator at the time and continues to suspect her as the culprit. They delve into the secrets of a serial murder case that begins again with a mysterious puzzle piece.
The release of the profiling report video featuring Yi Na and Han Saem raises intrigue. Kim Da M delves deeply into Yoon Yi Na's psychological state, who became both the sole witness and a suspect in her uncle's murder ten years ago. The actress says, "I wondered if Yi Na's heart and mind might still be stuck in that childlike state [since the incident] from back then." She shared insight into how the trauma from the past shaped Yi Na into a unique character.
Profiler Kim Yoon Hee, who served as a consultant for Nine Puzzles, focused on the trauma experienced by Yi Na, who lost her memory of the incident. She explained, "When someone experiences a shocking event, the memory may not surface immediately. It may come back much later," highlighting how the character's childhood trauma plays a key role in shaping her psychological state.
Kim Yoon Hee, a former profiler at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, has previously contributed to works such as the drama Signal and the film Emergency Declaration. Her expertise lends depth to Nine Puzzles, in which Yi Na, haunted by memory loss and relentless self-doubt, digs into the truth behind the case.
As she pieces together the mystery, the question looms: can she unlock the secret of the puzzle and finally break free from the trauma of her past?
Also drawing attention is the profiling report on Detective Kim Han Saem of the Violent Crimes Unit 2, who has firmly believed Yoon Yi Na to be a suspect for the past ten years and has never let go of that suspicion. The murder of Superintendent Yoon Dong Hoon, the first case Han Saem took on after becoming a police officer, remains unsolved to this day, lingering in his mind like an unpaid debt.
Son Suk Ku explained, "Because of that, he becomes even more obsessed with the case and desperately wants to catch the killer," shedding light on the deep-rooted determination that drives Han Saem's relentless pursuit of the truth.
Director Yoon Jong Bin remarked, "Han Saem is a character who pushes forward with his convictions, even when his superiors are speaking," highlighting the determined and unyielding nature that makes Han Saem unique. The line, "Let me ask you again. Did you kill him, Yoon Yi Na?" raises anticipation for how their uneasy alliance will unfold as they pursue the truth behind the string of mysterious murders.
Nine Puzzles will be available exclusively on Disney+, with six episodes releasing on May 21, followed by three on May 28, and the final two on June 4, for a total of eleven episodes. Watch the teaser here.
