The production team of the TVING original series I Am a Running Mate has unveiled the release date — June 19.
I Am a Running Mate is a teen political drama that follows No Se Hoon (Yoon Hyun Soo), who becomes a vice presidential candidate for the student council election after becoming a laughingstock following an unexpected incident. The drama aims to portray the burning desires and sharp conflicts of youth as they fiercely compete for the high school student council seats.
The poster features the phrase "An election war among high schoolers fiercer than college entrance exams," beneath the shot of the two teams facing off in the election.Team 1 comprises the student council presidential candidate Kwak Sang Hyun (Lee Jung Sik), along with No Se Hoon (Yoon Hyun Soo) and Yoon Jung Hee (Hong Hwa Yeon).
Rivaling them are Team 2's Yang Won Dae (Choi Woo Sung), Park Ji Hoon (Lee Bong Joon), and Ha Yoo Kyung (Kim Ji Woo).
The trailer teases a rollercoaster month in the life of No Se Hoon, a student who wanted nothing more than an ordinary school life, belonging neither to the mainstream nor the fringe. He becomes the vice-presidential candidate as the running mate of Kwak Sang Hyun, a student council presidential candidate.
Gone is Kwak Sang Hyun's friendly smile, replaced by a chilling demeanor as he tells No Se Hoon, "Don't just run your mouth but do some work."
The sharp clashes between Kwak Sang Hyun's campaign and that of his rival, student council presidential candidate Yang Won Dae, add tension to the teen rivalry.
As the voiceovers say, "Did I commit murder or scam anyone?" and "If we win, none of that matters," highlight the shifting dynamics among the high schoolers whose lives take a drastic turn after stepping into the race for student council seats.
Director Han Jin Won emphasized that I Am a Running Mate is "not a hero action story," saying, "The protagonist, No Se Hoon, is a delicate, at times foolish, ordinary boy whose [spirit] can be easily broken. He could be me, and in a broader sense, he could be any one of us." He highlighted that the story centers around a character anyone can relate to.
"I hope viewers will recall their most ordinary days and become immersed in the story. The charm and unique appeal of I Am a Running Mate lies in it being a special story experienced by the most ordinary of us."
I Am a Running Mate will be released on June 19. News about the K-drama's global OTT is yet to come. Watch the teaser here.
