Kwak Dong Yeon joins Park Bo Gum at THEBLACKLABEL

Actress Yeom Hye Ran shared her views regarding a recent infringement of her portrait rights using AI in an interview for her film My Name.

Recently, the AI film The Meter Reader (검침원) sparked controversy after it was revealed to have meticulously recreated Yeom Hye Ran's face, voice, and expressions without the consent of either the actress or her agency.
During the interview, Yeom Hye Ran addressed the incident in which her portrait rights were misused in an AI film, saying, "I also found out through news reports. In fact, we in the industry often discuss AI technology among ourselves. But we only end up being surprised, and there really doesn't seem to be any way around it."
She continued, "AI technology has advanced significantly and has already deeply permeated our lives, so I don't think it's something that can simply be rejected [or avoided]. Rather, it's about how to make good and effective use of it," adding, "I heard that the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, having grappled with this issue before, is discussing portrait rights. I think we also need to be well prepared."
My Name tells the story of the 18-year-old Yeong Ok (Shin Woo Bin), who wants to shed his old-fashioned name, and his mother Jeong Sun (Yeom Hye Ran), who seeks to recover the painful, long-forgotten memories of Jeju in 1949.

My Name is streaming nationwide.
