The Perfect Lover
Yang Peng Cheng & Deng Ling Shu
Got this one recommended by a lurker we have in the community (you know who you are), and it was probably one of the best verticals I ever watched (more on this at the end).
The story is about an engineer, FL, who is having a very bad, not good at all time, and ends up bringing a faulty pleasure android (yes, it's exactly what you think that means) home for company: ML.
FL is cool, kinda aloof, and strong-willed, she's a genius at her work and is going through it. Meanwhile ML is THE definition of a clingy needy puppy. He ends up becoming her pretty stay-at-home boyfriend bot who is helplessly devoted and clingy and ADORABLE. He gets pouty when she doesn't pay him attention, PLEASE ๐ฉ
Just look at how cutie patootie clingy and pouty he iiiiisssss ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ
Their romance is very sweet and tender, with minimal angst (even tho the drama is a bit angsty, lol). There's also some interesting conversations about... his um... original creation purpose and how they both go about navigating a genuine relationship that's built on more than just that purpose. Meanwhile FL is dealing with grief and depression(?), so it's a fun time, tbh.
Admittedly, the drama still has some trad moments. Like ML saving FL, being more assertive in bed, etc (especially in the final arc, he gets more assertive and sassy), but he's still ultimately at her service, so as far as these kinda plots go, it's acceptable. Just a heads up that thought it's very good, it's not perfect RR.
The most forehead kisses I've ever seen in a drama ever. Also clock the way his shirt is falling off his shoulder in #3, second row ๐ CUTE
Probably one of the best verticals I ever watched. The story was coherent, actually interesting, and relatively well-crafted for a vertical. The visuals and quality were amazing. The characters and relationships were given depth and development, and the drama even goes about handling some pretty heavy topics in a tasteful and thought-provoking way. I was actually left in tears by the end ๐ญ
Trigger warning for: lengthy discussion about grief and moving on after a love one's death (partner), what it means to be human/alive, and a bittersweet but also happy but also bittersweet ending.
