I might check it out after I'm done with Love Scout (some day)
I need your thoughts as you watch, ma'am. It's one of Korea's best outwardly RR creations aside from Love and Leashes. And I know you love a hot dad (which ML is) and malewife content (like me), so I'm waiting for you to gobble it down.
I completely agree with this statement. When I think back on what RR media Korea has done well, Love Scout is the one that consistently comes to mind along with L&L. I'm about halfway through and I really love it so far, it's just a bit slow. I wish it were shorter or just... more happening π But I was thinking about CEO x Secretary RR lately and I got the itch to continue this, so hopefully I'll get around to it soon
But you know me well, I do have a thing for hot single dads that are very babygirl and mother-coded and for FLs that are powerful, cold, and bastard-coded π© What a pairing they make. I bet it's even better when they actually get together
I forgot to mention this sooner but there's an event going on for MDL's 15 year anniversary and one is a "Create your own drama". Just wanted to share in case anyone here feels bold and would like to share their creations (until the 9th/10th so not much longer now...)
I made one, and am working on some more π

I didn't realize you'd gotten that far! I remember you stopping around episode 2. It's slow, but I kind of like slow in contemp dramas where I'm interested in the characters. I get obsessive, and want to know everything about them and see everything about their day. Aren't Ji Yun and Eun Ho just the cutest???? She's so surly and rigid, and he's so patient and warm π₯Ή
First of all, I love that they gave Eun Ho stereotypical single-mom-in-a-drama problems. He's not wealthy nor does he secretly have a powerful chaebol family behind him as a safety net. It's literally just him and his daughter, and if he loses his job they don't eat or have a place to live. At work, Eun Ho's penalized for taking paternity leave and putting his daughter first: something that I've read stalls women's careers in SK, Japan, and China. I don't know the percentage of single dads or dads who are the primary caregiver in SK, but this obviously affects them too, so it was really interesting seeing that injustice highlighted and explored. And when Eun Ho is essentially pushed out of said job, he has to swallow his pride and accept one that was lower than his previous position under someone he doesn't like.
I found it refreshing for Eun Ho to go on paternity leave for Byeol's mental health. I was hoping the drama would go a bit further into that, but sadly they keep it pretty surface level. That's one of the things I think could've been handled better.
There are quite a few swoony moments in the drama, and one of them is in the very first episode when Eun Ho and Ji Yun have just met and have to walk down that mountain together at night. IRL, traversing down a mountain at night with a man you don't know in heels is some horror movie stuff, but in Love Scout I thought the scene was soft and sweet. The way they traded hesitant looks all the way down was adorable, and I could already sense the chemistry. Not a word had to be said.
The tender chemistry was also overflowing in the filing room scene after Eun Ho stopped Ji Yun from banging her head on one of the cabinets and getting a Grade 2 concussion.
I also loved when they were walking through the park, and Ji Yun makes that basketball shot and Eun Ho's like "Whoa" and they start playing basketball with the kids π©π And an episode or two later when she pops up at his house and he makes her that delicious meal? Such peak malewife content. Can't wait until you get to ep 7 and 8! (Let me know when you watch them)
Some other small details I love: the bulbasaur sticker on Eun Ho's phone case and Byeol painting his nails later.
Lastly, shoutout to the drama for sticking to the role reversal and actually making Ji Yun a grumpy workaholic CEO who doesn't take care of herself, and needs some nurturing from her handsome secretary.

It was ep 4 apparently LOL

1000%!!! They really delivered on the role reversal with those two and I was so here for it!!

ME TOO!!!! I absolutely LOVED this!!!! The RR social dynamics!! Him being just a regular single dad trying to make things work and being bullied for prioritizing his daughter over his job?? π© He is a prince, he is in peril... he needs his knight! And yeah, him having to settle for being FL's secretary was just chefs kiss. And how diligent he is and how he's able to apply all his dad knowledge to be FL's caretaker too HAHAA
potatocouch:
That's one of the things I think could've been handled better.
That's a shame :(

You make this scene sound far more memorable than it ended up being for me, haha xD But yeah, it was cute and shows their characters and dynamic well. Him always looking out for others, even people he dislikes and caring for them, and her a distrustful hardass that struggles understanding that sometimes people can genuinely be nice to you and it's okay to show weakness π

Man was so impressed by her athletic skills π© he's such a malewife

Didn't get to that part yet, but I'll defs let you know when I do!

I'll have to pay attention to these!!

We absolutely love to see it!!! I am so impressed with korea about this drama!! I was starting to think Love and Leashes and Hotel del Luna were gonna be their only proper RR titles!!! π

You were COOKING with these! Omg! I love the matriarchal drama idea with the three different FLs ^_^ !! The contract boyfriend melodrama would be so fun haha, gimme gimme. And Moonlight Boys would be really fun too I can tell :')
Love the casting choices too, perfection π
Thank you so much for the kind words, Jay! I'm really happy to hear you liked all of my ideas and my actor choices, haha!
It was so much fun to do and I had many more ideas but I kinda got started a bit late π

Is anyone else getting RR vibes from this trailer? As in... some.... Zhang Gong Zhu Zai Shang vibes??? IS IT JUST ME????? Maybe the comparison is a bit generous, BUT VIBES???
Ahem... ML is a mistreated, hauntingly beautiful palace guard and FL is the... empress???? princess royal??? idk but she's out here scheming and aura farming
HE'S A POOR PALACE GUARD AND SHE'S A ROYAL
I honestly dgaf if it is RR or if it gets axed later on, I'm watching this with my mom GUARANTEED (unless it's a sad ending, lol). This looks DELICIOUS!!! POLITICS, ANGST, ZHOU YIRAN, BADASS WOMAN, TINY BIXIA!!! The only bummer is that there seem to be a lot of young men... π which usually means reverse harem and bad acting

Same I'm so excited for this. Chen Dulng is so amazing, I've loved her in everything I've ever seen her in, really looking forward to seeing her scheme and aura farm lol. Fingers crossed for RR, it would be the icing on the cake π
Gong Xi Lao Gong Xi De Gui Zi
Watched it so you guys don't have to, lol. Yes, it does have actual male pregnancy and they commit to it far more than others I've watched (like ML even grows breasts), but it was kinda pointless and this is also the extent of the role reversal. Like, don't come in expecting romance cuz there's 0, it's all revenge.
ML is a POS misogynist whom FL stays with despite knowing what he is and then takes revenge on him for attempting to mess with her birth control (and cheating, and wanting to rob from her, etc) by implanting an artificial womb inside him and impregnating him with his mistress' child. She then mistreats him throughout the entire pregnancy, doesn't let him get anesthetics during labor and mistreats him post-birth too... Idk, it felt like a lot. Don't get me wrong, tho, he's a POS all throughout and never learns his lesson, but idk, it still felt like a lot. (Surprisingly tho, his mom and mistress are ridiculously supportive of his pregnancy.)
It's very clearly just feminist social commentary with a RR lens for greater impact, which is fine, but I already am not fond of that kinda role reversal, but it didn't even take it in The Other Half of Me and You route so I was just left feeling very underwhelmed and bummed. Thankfully it was only an hour and I watched it faster.
If you wanna watch good mpreg, just watch He's Expecting. Nothing has come close to it yet.
