1ST Challenge DONE

Hiii  Tanii

Since you didn't mentioned what would you like to watch , I will try to give diverse options
1)Someday or One Day  - The drama that I had to pause so much in between to understand the links of what was even happening

2)My Husband in Law  - My first lakorn , which I enjoyed a lot , a pretty decent rom-com story , if you want to watch Thai drama

3)Study Group   - I don't know if you are watching this but hasn't updated the list so just recommending if that's not the case . It just ended , similar to weak hero top 1 (but I think it is better one with lot of better fighting scenes ngl) also for me it was new factor as MC is not the one who is good in everything like in other dramas

4)Boyhood  -  Recently completed , the drama made me out of being drama slump , retro 19s like setup
mixture of comedy , fights , little bit of unrequited love but totally worth it like I was blushing in those scenes(not  like other dramas , that you would feel irritated because of that )
5)Hikaru no Go - This drama is good to go , if you want to see character development , you might get immersed in the story a lot and root for the MC
6)Le Coup de Foudre  - When this drama ended I was in discomfort that why it ended ,  totally inspired by reply 1988  , but it depends on your perspective too if you will enjoy it or not
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thriller much appreciated but I am happy with rom-com genre with the condition It should have a full story line that I could enjoy the story and development like (Reply 1988 , A River Runs Through It  , Le Coup de Foudre  )

1st Challenge completed!

Hello SAOMEO146, I checked out your profile and picked a couple of recs for you.

You can choose one from the following options:

Open for any recommendation, specially from Japan, Taiwan, & Thailand. Feel free to check my completed drama list to see what I've enjoyed!

Edit: 1

I accept Tanii’s recommendation to watch Miseinen: Mijukuna Oretachi wa Bukiyo ni Shinkochu, my first Japanese BL. Hope to enjoy the drama!

Edit: 2

Couldn't really get into it :(

😅 After being stuck on episode 1 for like three weeks, I decided to drop it and give Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru a go instead.

Status: Currently watching Completed

Thoughts: Loved the drama. It was an enjoyable watch. The mix of crime, romance, and Japanese sweets was just perfect. The whole Japanese sweets theme was quite refreshing to me, so I savored all of it! 🍡

Rating: 9.5/10

1st Challenge completed!

Hi Anne613! I have listed a few titles that I think you might enjoy! If none of them catch your interest just let me know and I'll find some more!

1. Under the Skin Season 2 - since you've watched s1 and given it a high rating, I recommend watching S2!

2. Hua Jai Sila - Thai Lakorn, so of course you can expect slapkiss etc but it set the standard for me when I watched it, compared to other lakorns.

3. Cherry Magic - Thai BL

4. Never Let Me Go - Thai BL

5. Miseinen: Mijukuna Oretachi wa Bukiyo ni Shinkochu - Japanese BL

6. Imawa no Kuni no Alice - it's like squid game but better

7. Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru - Japanese

Edit: Oh I'm glad you enjoyed another rec from the list instead!

Waiting for rec! I don't mind receiving any recs, but for now something short would be ideal (like 10-12 ep shows) , although if you really want to recommend something long to me then it's alright, go ahead!

I accept leafless7's recommendation to watch One day off.

Status: Completed! Thanks for the rec! (I think it wasn't my kind of a show, but the bakery episode was cute!)

Hi Tanni

These are some reccs for different moods.

1. One day off - slice of life, feel good

2. Light shop - tearjerker

3. Bounty hunter - movie, slapstick comedy

4. The Other Half of Me and You- Role reversal, 35 ep × 5min

I just want something which can keep me hooked. The genre which keep me hooked are action, thrillers, tearjerker, comedy.

Mood: good feel drama, rom-com, family, friends, slice of life, mature actors

I accept Tanii's reccs Killer and Healer

Status: cw ep 4 on hold. Sorry I am very busy.

Rating:

Thought: it was hard to choose from the drama. So I choose the drama which I think has a least chance that I would watch it ever. Others drama are like 'not now but I can watch it anyday.'

2nd Challenge Completed!

Hi leafless7!

Here are some recs from your PTW list:

1. When I Fly Towards You - slice of life, rom com, cutesy

2. Killer and Healer - mafia types, but mature actors

3. Thirty but Seventeen - romance, overcoming the past

4.  Word of Honor - historical bromance

5. Bed Friend - Thai BL, romance

Waiting for rec! I don't mind receiving any types of recs, but for now something short would be ideal (like 10-12 ep shows) , although if you really want to recommend something long to me then it's alright, go ahead!

(Honestly I would have picked Trauma Code, but I'm usually at the hosp anyway (just med student things), so I'd rather watch it when I'm on break!)

I accept JulyMoon's recommendation to watch Tsuiraku JK to Haijin Kyoshi!

Status: Completed 9/10! They were really cute! I was so glad to see there's a s2!

Edit: Changed rating to 9/10!

2nd challenge completed

Hi Tanii,

I've taken a look at your PTW list and found these gems hidden:

1. The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call (8 episodes, have just finished this myself and loved it, very good script, cast and excellent in medical aspects)

2. 1 Litre no Namida (11 episodes, a tearjerker and based on a real story, but still worth a watch, it's good)

3. Tsuiraku JK to Haijin Kyoshi (9 episodes, an unusual couple, a ML that is quite unique and an interesting story)

4. The Days (8 episodes, quite depressing to be honest so maybe only a good choice when you're in the mood for it, but worth a watch)

If none of these picks your interest, let me know and I'll give you more recs.

I'm open to recs, please choose something with max 24 episodes/runtime of 24 hours as these work best for me right now. I don't feel up to long dramas at the moment.

Preferably from my PTW but you can also look at my likes/dislikes on my profile and pick something you think I might like. Not picky about country, but I mostly watch Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Thai dramas.

I accept Pinwheel's recommendation for Hokago Karte. Thank you for the interesting recommendations. <3

Status: Completed

Rating: 10

Thoughts: After first two episodes I was hooked and could've binged this all night if I didn't need sleep. The different stories/situations of the children touched me deeply and moved me to tears more than once. The drama delivered more than I expected, it has a good script and excellent actors. I love it.

1ST Challenge DONE

Thank you for the Award Ceremony, it looks great! <3

A kind reminder to everyone, make sure to provide large (high quality) images, so I can give you nice custom badges. Low resolution images don't work well for badges.

If I'm lucky I can find the same image in better quality, but it's best when you already pick your favorite image in a good resolution.

See the difference in this example, please:

Low quality image with resolution of 276 x 183 pixel:
High quality image with resolution of 1500 x 950 pixel:

Happy continuous watching, everyone! ^.^

I'm also willing to help out with "unofficial" (custom) achievement badges for those who want them for their profile page. Below is my template (Hexagon with outer frame). The gif version could also include the rating and title of the drama/movie.

You can place the requests in this feeds post https://kisskh.at/profile/Rien/feeds/Y2LZvs4

I've made a few more (unofficial) colored frames to choose from (like rainbow etc) you can few/pick them here: https://kisskh.at/discussions/creativity-forum/69619-badges-banners?pid=3269770&page=24#p3269770

First time participating ^^, hello everyone

Hi JulyMoon!

Here are recs from your likes and your PtW (unfortunately most of the dramas I've watched from your PtW are longer so I had less to choose from there).  Let me know if none of these appeal to you:

  • Love Scout (from your Ptw). 12 eps - It is almost a by the book kdrama romance, but with a few changed elements in the typical romance formula.
  • Hokago Karte (from your likes: "medical"). 10 eps - A medical drama set in an elementary school. It's healing but with enough tension. I loved it so very much!
  • Kikazaru Koi ni wa Riyuu ga Atte (from your likes: "healthy relationship, found family, character development"). 10 eps -
  • In Our Prime (from your likes: "smart nice characters"). Movie - A mentor & mentee kinship.

I am open to recs from any length, country and genre. Since I am doing the Back to the past challenge, I would love recs from 2016 to 2021, but no problem if they are from other years.

Just no terminal illness or extreme gore. And if it's a title with a lot of episodes, then I would prefer a happy ending.

My PtW is veeery long, but feel free to use it or not, as you prefer. Thanks :D

Thanks Vanessa for your great recs!

I have to go with My Roommate is a Gumiho. It’s been on my plan to watch list for years, so I feel like this is the push I need to finally start it.

Status: Completed

Rating: 8

Thoughts: This was a charming romcom, I actually laughed out loud many times, which honestly is a feat in itself, and it had a lot of very cute moments (the second couple are peak cuteness!). For quite a few episodes I thought I would end up rating this 9-9.5, but then I had some issues with the pacing (the murder plot was so rushed that the victims felt like cannon fodder, while the forced love triangle lasted for a bit too much ><). Still, I definitely enjoyed it and I am glad I picked it, thank you Vanessa <3

Round 2

Hi Pinwheel <3333

I did some research on your likings and I can't decided between the two so I decided to put it in your hands and you choose!! I hope whatever you choose, you end up loving it as much as I did. (P.s both of these are 2021)

- Your options are -

Hello, Me!
(16 eps) - comedy, romance, life and tearjerker

OR

My roommate is a Gumiho
(16 eps) - Comedy, romance and fantasy

Hiiii dearuto !!!

Thank you so much for your recommendations, I decided to go for Tomorrow since it's been my PTW since it came out. This will motivate me to finally watch it ^-^

Status: PTW

Ahhh glad to return to this challenge in 2025~~

Hi Vanessa! Based on your preferences I would like to recommend

Short and easy to binge-watch. Show deals relationships between friends, lovers and family. Liked this a lot more than I thought I would

Group of grim reapers tasked with saving people who are on the brink of suicide. The crew navigate emotional cases while confronting their own past traumas. I cried. a lot.

Maybe because I'm biased to Zhouye but I really loved her acting here. A love story about two people who fall in love, confront past regrets and try to rewrite their fates for each other.

Preference for romantic comedy, k/c-dramas and movies both work :)

3rd challenge completed

Hi dearuto! Since you prefer rom-coms I tried to find matching titles.

1. Tsuiraku JK to Haijin Kyoshi (It's a Japanese drama, but is a lovely rom-com, I loved it and it's really funny despite the grim sounding synopsis)

2. Love and Leashes (K-movie for mature audience but is a rom-com, topic might be not everyone's cup of tea though)

3. Love Reset (rom-com K-movie, silly humor)

4. Love Next Door (on your PTW list, is a K-drama rom-com but also comes with melodrama and many family scenes)

Open to suggestions. I'm not in any specific mood except that I don't want a tearjerker or something tragic. You may look at my PTW or this Custom List as I also participate in the MDL Watch Challenge but that's up to you. As always, my general likes/dislikes can be found on my profile page.

Thanks for the recommendations Annette!  I had Strong Woman Do Bong Soon on and off my watchlist for ages so I take that as I sign to finally watch it.

Status: Completed

Rating: 8.5

Thoughts: I loved it til ep 10, then it started getting unfocused and felt like filling the story with unnecessary scenes to prolong it. 12 episodes would've been enough. Nonetheless I enjoyed the story and chemistry between the main leads. It was a good watch.

Hello JulyMoon

I just went through your PTW and here are some of my kdrama recommendations for you!!

1. Twinkling Watermelon : it is my #1 kdrama and my go-to comfort watch. It is an adorable drama with fun-loving characters, good music and heart-warming plotlines.

2. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon : my #2 favourite kdrama of all time. I will forever be grateful to this drama for introducing me to PHS who is absolutely the most versatile actor I have ever seen. It is a really fun watch I hope you enjoy it.

3. Love Game in Eastern Fantasy : and adorable watch. The chemistry is really chemistrying between Ding Yuxi and Yu  Shuxin and it is a fun watch with a lot of nonsense just to make you laugh!

Y'all can go through my PTW  I would appreciate recommendations in SK, Chinese and Japanese (why is it so hard to find Japanese stuff?) and BL's pls I need good BL recs!

2nd challenge complete!

Hi, Annette!

Your list has a lot of sweet romance rated highly, so the first rec, since you mentioned Japanese dramas, is Usotoki Rhetoric which is set in the mid-20th century with humans about as cute as the little cat they end up adopting. It is a gentle, low-stress show that feels a lot like the warm blanket draped over my lap with the built in heater of my plush cat on top of it… you can watch the way I did before it was officially picked up, through irozuku’s fansubs, or it is on Viki now. I can’t say which might be more accurate if either (for all I know Viki subbers could have copied many from the other).

I’m going to throw you a couple of BLs, too, but keep in mind I don’t watch them for the BL part in particular so they might not be your style (can’t know til you try though):

Like in the Movies was introduced to me a bit over a year ago for this same challenge, and I loved it at the time. It is the first Filipino title I’ve given a really high rating to, too. It packs a surprising amount of depth for the length. It is warm and delicately handled.

(I also like, for wholly different reasons, the Japanese dramas  Happy of the End and Smells Like Green Spirit, but while Japan can certainly do fluff, almost nauseatingly sweet fluff, even, they are not messing around in these and while there is plenty of cute angsty attraction in the coming of age story SLGS, there is also violence and fear that is pretty palpable… and Happy of the End is not your fluffy BL content -at all- but more a real world reflecting story that is agonizing and raw, honest  about even some really messed up and cruel facets of humans-I guess it is more that I appreciate it than it being a wonderful viewing experience. That is the fair warning of “yes, gay guys, no, not all sweet fluttering first love style romance” triggers abound since they aren’t aiming to appeal to young females the way so many are.)

Lastly, a bit of Korea if you are feeling like one language over another…

For fluffy, sometimes silly romance with a childhood friends reuniting story and one of redemption and pursuing dreams: My Sweet Mobster

For faster-paced action, teamwork, bromance, and the slowest burning trust building turning into hints of flutters (there is a second season coming with more relationship building, no doubt) a wealthy man with brains and strength using his connections and wealth to take down rich criminals as a law enforcement officer: Flex X Cop

Open for recs! No dubbing, up to 24 hours length. Ignore my PTW since it indicates nothing about what I actually want to watch anymore and is more a “when it airs, this way it’ll show on the calendar in my list” tracking tool mixed with “adding everything a fave actor is in” compulsions. 😅

Always and forever welcoming thrillers, weird/unique stories, and richly developed plots and characters. A bit maxed out on romance at the moment, though, at least as a primary storyline. Fine if it is part of a bigger story. :)

I’ve already scene and thoroughly enjoyed My Name, so I accept Pinwheel’s recommendation for Quartet! (Thanks for the reminder to get to In Our Prime, too! I always pile up movies then forget about them because the ones that get theatrical releases take a while to get put online… and by the time they are available, I’ve all but forgotten about them!😔 I already love Choi Min Shik’s immersive acting, so it is almost a guarantee it will be received well.)

Thoughts/rating: Thanks for a great rec! It had all the quirky jdrama things I love, and the little music video endings that were like highlight reels in jazzy clothing were a cherry on top for me! Such a great ensemble! It gets a 9 from me (and even made me come out from under my cozy little rock and post about it in feeds because I was enjoying it so much)!
