The Bangkok Boy - finale
I am going to keep this short since I already did a very lengthy post on my thoughts for the last episode.
The ending hints at a second season.
As I had pointed out in my last posts on this series my main point of contention is the characterisation of Sun's character. I really believe that for this type of plot it required a more grey character to fully develop the story-line; all the right ingredients were there: Sun's father being killed in cold blood, Sun going to prison and having to fight for survival, Sun's best friend stabbed to death, Sun's sister being broken mentally and sexually abused, etc. They played it too safe having Sun being a white knight. In my view Peace, as in his name, already served as the "good guy", Sun needed to be the grey contrast to that who would have contradicted his own vengeance, falling in love and saving Peace; not all saviours wear white capes. I think such a grey character falling for the enemy would have intensified the tension and chemistry. Sun's character needed to be playing chess with a mind set that the ends justify the means.
Moving on, I am satisfied with how things ended for Jihun's character. As I had mentioned he is my favourite character because he knew the game and outplayed everyone else. If the series had not ended with him winning I would have been upset, and him losing would be playing it way too safe for the sake of the protagonists getting a happy ever after. I hope if there is a next season Jihun and Aim will have some romance. I feel something between them. Well played Jihun, well played.
As for Nap and Kawin, I need for them to have some romance in the possible season 2
I could argue that romance on a whole in this series was a bit neglected; however with my main point of contention outlined above standing, I do not think I would have appreciated any further romance. For me there needed to be that grey characterisation to explode the romance within this plot.
With all that being said, I did enjoy the series without feeling bored. The fight scenes were entertaining. Watching the plot unfold brought excitement weekly. I have not thought of a rating, so I am legit making a rating on the spot through my rating scheme right now:
Production - 2/2
Writing - 1/2
Intimacy - 1.5/2
Acting - 2/2
Music - 1/1
Special 10 scene - 0/1
Final rating score = 7.5/10 (well my rating is close to the overall MDL rating of 7.8, so I take that as an indication that I am fair in my rating lol)
It is currently after midnight and I have two more series releases to watch; The Next Prince: Uncut & Hermoso. I will back in a few with those episode review posts.
