DAY 7 - Favourite non-Asian LGBTQ+ drama/film of 2025

Plainclothes

Just finished watching this movie.

Red, White & Royal Blue

Technically this came out in 2023 but I only managed to watch it this year.

DECEMBER 2025 BL CHALLENGE
Day 7: Favorite non-Asian LGBTQ+ drama/movie of 2025

Let me tell you... I haven't watched any. I have seen like a handful (less than 10) western movies and none have been gay or lesbian. /sighs I'll do better next year, maybe. I don't even know what they released this year, I'm so far behind on cinema that isn't Japan, Thailand, China and basically most other MDL countries. I'll have to do a sweep and select titles for me to watch. One title per country, going around the world, or something. Idk, it's a big project.

DECEMBER 2025 BL CHALLENGE

Day 7: Favorite Non-Asian LGBTQ+ drama/movie of 2025?

I haven't watched any this year but I will check your answers to try some

BL Challenge Day 7: Favorite non-Asian LGBTQ+ drama/movie of 2025?

The last one I can remember watching was S3 of "Heartstopper", but that was late last year.

Looking forward to "Heartstopper Forever", the movie finale due next year.

This came out in 2021, but I started it in 2023 and finished it this year. It's mostly in Swedish but there are some moments  that have Simon and his family speaking Spanish(in reality the actor for Simon is Swedish and Venezuelan)

Young Royals

 p43425:
That was presumably the third story (eps. 3 & 4), right? Yeah, that was my least favourite. Anyways, as  I wrote before, the fifth and final story cleverly brings the other stories together.

Yes the 3 & 4 eps. I finished 5 & 6 but I'm totally confused now! How did they stay the same characters in 5 & 6 but have different names at the end of EP 6 when doing the acting scenes? I missed smth.

Not that it really matters but I don’t like being behind with my answers since I came up with the challenge.

Oh, and I see it as you letting everyone else go first since your the host, lol.

2025 BL CHALLENGE - Day 7: Favorite non-Asian LGBTQ+ drama/movie of 2025

I haven't seen any non-Asian LGBTQ+ shows this year that I can remember, although I plan to watch Heated Rivalry as soon as all the eps are out. IMDb rating is a 8.6.

I liked Heartstopper a lot but still haven’t watched s3

That’s nice. Thanks.

I’m behind on the episodes and the challenge. December feels like it’s flying by, and I got totally caught up in all the holiday prep. I really enjoyed reading your answers to the challenge. It brought back memories of the dramas and characters that stayed with us throughout the year. 😍

BL Challenge Day 4 - Favorite 2025 Chinese Drama

China put out some of the best BLs this year, and it really shows that if these shows could be made without restrictions, China would totally dominate the BL scene. The one that really stands out is Secrets Happened on Litchi Island, a little gem that’s full of heart in every little detail. If you want to check it out, it’s going to start streaming on Gaga tomorrow, and I’ll definitely be rewatching it

BL Challenge Day 5 - Ship you were most sad about ending in 2025

I don’t usually care much about ships, since I feel like actors should be free to explore different partners and roles. But I’ve gotta admit, I was pretty sad when Great and Inn stopped working together. They’re both such talented actors with amazing chemistry, and it’s a real shame we won’t get to see them team up again anytime soon and I really hope Inn gets to be in a drama soon.

BL Challenge Day 6 - Most evil parent or grandparent in a 2025 BL

There were plenty of evil family members, as you have pointed out, but Nareerat, K’Thee’s grandmother in Memoir of Rati, was truly cruel. Even when she was faced with the possibility of never seeing her grandson again, she still chose to put family honor and reputation above everything else.

BL Challenge Day 7 - Favorite non-Asian LGBTQ+ drama/movie of 2025

Ops, this year I only watched Asian LGBTQ+ dramas and movies. 🫣

Day 7 Challenge - LGBTQ+ drama/ movie non asian

This year I haven't watched any lgbtq + movies/dramas that I can remember. The only non asian I can remember are heartstopper and young royals. I think I haven't even watched anything non asian besides that

So I included today’s question even though I knew not everyone would have an answer. I thought we might get some good suggestions! Frankly I haven’t watched anything but Asian BLs and a couple GLs this year. I haven’t even finished a straight kdrama, but I’m hoping to before we get to that question.

i also really want to watch Heated Rivalry but don’t know if I can still stream it under my friend’s account that i previously used for HBO Max. I can’t pay for anymore streaming services myself. I have too many already. But maybe once the show ends I can get a free trial and binge it. Heartstopper s3 and s2 of  XO Kitty (both on Netflix) are also on my TBW list. (XO Kitty is kdrama adjacent in that it takes place at a foreign school in Korea. There are a number of queer character/storylines. I also heard s2 has lots of good K-pop in the OST.)

usually this time of year I watch some cheesy Christmas/holiday movies. Now that being gay is more “mainstream,” there are usually a few gay couples stories.

Young Royals

Aah Young Royals <3 I wish I could erase my memory and watch it for the first time again xD One of my all-time favorite lgbtq+ series 💕 Highly recommend it to everyone who hasn't seen it yet!

Day 7 - Favorite non-Asian LGBTQ+ drama/movie of 2025

As many others here, I haven't watched any non-Asian lgbtq+ dramas or movies that were released this year. I do plan on watching Heated Rivalry once all the episodes are out. I'm gonna share 2 movies I watched this year for the first time but they were released way back.

Maurice, 1987

Red, White & Royal Blue, 2023

I enjoyed both movies a lot! RWRB is a happy movie, Maurice not so much

I'm really glad you had included this question 😃 I haven't been watching much non-Asian LGBTQ+ content lately, although I used to watch a lot of it back in the days. I've been watching BLs for 10 years, but I've been watching gay storylines in media for 20 years. This question made me feel nostalgic. Out of curiosity I checked on YT and my OG gay couples from soap operas are still there 😲

Head 2 Head ep 7
Not the butterfly effect!😱  I'm worried about what the future holds for the main couple. The second couple finally got together, but I'm not sure if I should be celebrating, since Van is the way he is and Farm deserves better. I really hope everything will work out for both couples 🤞

OMG Maurice is one of my favorite movies of all time! So beautiful! I watched it years ago in the 1990’s when there was hardly any gay content out there, and no one had ever heard of Hugh grant. I came across it because I was obsessed with Merchant Ivory (the director-producer, also a couple. Now listed as the longest partnership in independent cinema history.)

Anyone who has not seen Maurice should check it out, although the ending is bittersweet. I didn’t consider it so bad but it came out in an era of ”bury the gays” so I was just happy no one died. It was a low bar. But it is an absolutely gorgeous film.

i was thinking about whether it was the first gay romance I ever saw and im not sure. Ang Lee’s original version of The Wedding Banquet (1993) may have been the first. That is actually a HE and very sweet. Watch that too!

Unfortunately we still have problems with “bury the gays” but this is interesting and there are some good links at the end.
