Happy New Year! Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku! Alles Gute im neuen Jahr! First and foremost, I wish you all to be healthy and safe this year 💗 May you have enough free time to watch all the BLs you wish to watch and enough money to pay for streaming platform subscriptions 😄
~~*~~*~~*~~
I've hurt my back and I can't sit down for a long time, so I'll keep it short. I've watched a lot of BLs in December, mainly because of the challenge. I have a lot to write about and I'll try to do it as soon as I feel better. For now here's my sum-up of 2025:
Last year I've watched 80 BL and 14 non-BL dramas (rewatching not included). Have I got a problem? Should I seek help? 🤪
My favourites of 2025:
- Korean BL -> Secret Relationships
- Japanese BL -> ex aequo - fluffy -> School Trip / dark -> The Journey to Killing You
- Chinese BL -> Secrets Happened on the Litchi Island
- *Taiwanese BL -> Secret Lover
- Thai BL -> Reset😍
- *Filipino BL -> Haunted Hearts
- *Singaporean BL -> The Sparkle in Your Eye
- *Vietnamese BL -> Fight for Love
- BL of the year -> Reset👑
- fluffy film -> Can I Buy Your Love from a Vending Machine
- dark film -> The Paradise of Thorns 👑
- least favourite -> Sweet Tooth Good Dentist
(* - not many to choose from)

CURRENTLY WATCHING
Head 2 Head
I don't know what to tell you, since I'm not sure how I feel about this. I really enjoyed it in the beginning, but I've started to lose interest later on. First of all, I love JJ. He's amazing at playing comedic relief characters. Secondly, Surf and Java have got a great chemistry. Unfortunately, as soon as Van and Farm became a couple I've lost my interest in them. They were better off as friends, but that's just my personal opinion. Last but not least, Jinn and Jerome. I'm glad they've finally had an honest talk about all these visions and they worked it out, because I was losing my patience with all these lies hiding the truth. Only one episode left and it's GMMTV, so we will get a happy ending, but the fact that the curse of penultimate episode lasted only two minutes worries me a little bit. There will be some drama in the last episode 😰
Me and Thee
Peach's got a bad influence on Thee, he's becoming more and more normal. Just kidding 😁 I love this drama, but I'm afraid the lighthearted part is coming to an end. I've got a feeling Mok's words 'I have to take a bullet for my friend' are actually a foreshadowing. I'm glad Plub has accepted Thee as her future brother-in-law. Tawan and Aran remind me of Klao and Warit from P10L. I really hope to see some character development from Tawan, the sooner the better.
Dare You to Death
I really like this drama so far. We've got a crime, a mystery, corpses piling up - that's something for me 😏 As always, I'm enjoying JoongDunk chemistry - they never fail in that department 🔥 It would be interesting if Jay was the one behind it all, but they're probably not going to do this.
Fourever You 2
Finally, I've been waiting for this second season 🤩 I'll be honest, it starts with the couple I'm least interested in, so I'm mostly waiting for other couples to begin their love stories. I've also got a hard time understanding Typhoon. First he wants to be with Tonfah, then he gives up on him, then he changes his mind again and becomes his secret admirer. Pretending Torfun is alive also doesn't make things any better. I've got no idea what this boy is thinking...
Sereno
It's an Oxin Film production, so the quality is what I expected it to be😑 I'm not sure if it's their problem or mine, but I don't know what's going on in this drama. Maybe my brain shuts down when I'm watching this and it's not processing any information... I've got so many questions: Is Kai Ursula's lucky charm? What is Kai's curse really about? Why did Alicia go up in a puff and where is she now? What happened to Kai's previous lover? Is he dead? If he is, who did Kai meet on the beach?
FILMS
10Dance
So many beautiful words about this film have already been written here that I don't have anything to add. It was a great dance film and when it ended I was like: that's it?😮 I'm waiting for some sort of continuation, be it another film or a drama - I don't care. I just want more 🥰
Love in the Big City
First, I've got a question: how is the film related to the drama? I mean, they're both adaptations of the same novel, but the characters are named differently 🤨 Anyways, I prefer film to drama. Mostly because the main character in the film is more likeable than the one from the drama. Also the film seems to focus more on the friendship between the main character and his girl-friend and less on their respective love lives. For that reason I understand why some people prefer the drama. Conclusion: I've got to read the novel, since it's already on my bookshelf 📖
Share (18+)
I liked it, but not everyone will, since there's a love triangle and infidelity. The ending though? I did not expect them to become a throuple, but it wasn't an unwelcome outcome 😉
Unspoken Passion (18+)
This film was hard to watch. The scenes jumped from one time period to the other, which made it really confusing and I don't think that was necessary. I'd like this film better if it was made in a more chronological order. It's another story with a love triangle, but it also touches on the sex industry. The ending was bittersweet.
One Summer Night (18+)
I do wonder why one actor was blurred and the other was shown 'in all his glory'. Was that the actor's decision? 🤔 Anyways, the film is quite sad. Yet another love triangle. I'm not sure how to interpret Yong Joon's behaviour. Was he angry at Jae Sung, because he came to him when he's already moved on or because he came and reignited the long-forgotten feelings? I was confused, but I guess Yong Joon was too.

My forlorn hopes for 2026
- TutorYim play main roles in a well-written drama
- BenzGarfield play main roles in a well-written drama
- I Feel You Linger in the Air gets a second season
- Unintentional Love Story gets a remake
- fandom stops being obsessed with certain pairings *cough*OhmNanon*cough*

P.S. I hope someone here will satisfy my curiosity, since I haven't watched Shine yet: are Jjay and Fuaiz a couple in Shine or are they just secondary characters not involved with each other?
P.P.S. You reminded me of Restart after Come back Home, now I want to rewatch this. It's such a heartwarming and comforting BL, my favourite fluffy BL film 😍
Da Bao:
I think ON fandom really ruined the chance of Ohm going back to BL. They're way too hung up on ON to give a fuck about his subsequent BL series. It's too bad because I think Ohm was doing a great job at playing ML in BL series. But, it is what it is, in the end.
I dropped Kidnap though. Went through drama slump and then lost interest in the series. :(
Ohm is going to be in OffGun's upcoming series Gunshot but Ohm's character is going to be a antagonist. I honestly think that will be the only way for him to want to be in a BL again.
caveat: this is not my best review. It is just my current thoughts, written out while I thought them. Hopefully it’s helpful.
so I really enjoyed this show, even though it dealt with some heavy topics. at times it could have been more sensitive to those topics, but overall it tried hard to take them seriously while still trying to offer closure. Honestly, I don’t think Ice’s character accurately reflected the amount of trauma he would actually have, but it made it easier to watch that way. There is a lot of SA/r&pe/non-con behavior featured in the story, as well as p@rn made under duress. It is super upsetting to think about these things in reality but the show addressed them without letting things get to heavy. There was still room for hurt/healing, and I liked that. Not everyone liked the GL couple, but I thought they were good characters, and had good chemistry. I liked the third couple (BL) too. As far as JaTae, I was impressed with their chemistry and thought they had many lovely scenes with sexual tension as well as meaningful kissing and touching.
I liked the story (movie) within a story format, although I’ve had enough bury the gays. Plus suicide is upsetting. So i didn’t particularly like the end of the movie, but I see they used it for educational purposes.
As for the ending overall, many people thought it was too pat, and everyone wouldn’t be reformed and forgiven that easily. I didn’t mind that, though. This is fiction. The worst person went to jail but if the rest are forgiven and given a second chance and decide to get along, why can’t we imagine that’s true? We don’t get it in real life but this drama was a mix of what’s real and what we would like to happen, so why not?
as far as Saint’s dad, I think he would try to change. He was lonely and sad and shocked when Saint left. He didn’t want to be all alone. So it’s not that unrealistic that he would go to therapy and try to change.
the part I found unbelievable, actually, was all the public kissing. Ice might have issues because of his past but it just doesn’t seem like something all that acceptable in Thailand, so I have trouble believing the characters would go that far. But it was still cute and sweet.
so the show had its flaws, for sure, but it also had some great moments. I don’t think it should be viewed as a hard-hitting reflection of reality, but rather a happy ending romance that included difficult elements as part of the story. Also, I just really liked JaTae and their characters.
@ZhouYanRan
love hearing all your thoughts. Reset was my favorite BL of the year too. We had a lot of good ones though. I watched over 200 BLs last year so if you have a problem I certainly do. But I’m stuck at home in bed a lot so….
in Shine, Fuaiz and JJay are just side characters without partners. But the new SonEuro pairing is absolute fire so i didn’t miss Fuaiz And JJay. And the show is just phenomenal overall. Serious, but worth the emotional energy. Really incredibly well-made. Story, acting, music, cinematography, sets, costumes, all just almost perfect. At the time I watched it I said I felt transported into the world of 1960s Thailand for an hour each week. I have been looking for other comments i wrote but i don’t think I ever composed a full review. I’m sure there are some good ones, though.
now I need to prioritize restart after coming back home. Thanks.
happy new year!

Yeah, that series has the potential to be a good one. I probably won't watch it though.
I am doing this thing where I already chose what to watch for the whole year. And I want Thailand to be no. 1 country for me, in my watchlist. Right now Japan is no. 1. I want to change that somehow and it's easier to make Thailand no. 1 as it's not that far from Japan. But yeah, I won't be watching any Thai or Japanese series in 2027 and 2028. And I doubt I'll go into OG series in the year of the Lord 2029 lmao 🤣
So idk, all this to say, I will not be watching most GMM BLs. Unless I have it on my custom lists already, it's not getting watched.
Also kinda related to this, but I won't be watching the GMM event each year either. For obvious reasons. In 2029, I'll be watching BLs and GLs, but from GMM, I think it'll be mostly GLs from now on. :)
Alex:
@DaBao
I have a few GMMTV BLs I want to watch but having a plan on what you plan to watch for the year is actually a good idea especially if you are participating in challenges. I think I will do that, too since I want to participate in a lot of challenges this year.
Good luck with the challenges! They're hard work but rewarding. I'm only doing the BL and GL watch challenges and have my hands full already 😂
Last year I actually signed up for so many challenges but did none of them. So I learned that I'm a mood watcher which means having many challenges is counter to my watching habits.
There is a thread in the General Asia forum that compiles all known challenges in tables and such. Maybe you'll find something you like?
The official MDL watch challenge is huge by itself so, plenty to do in the year. :)
As for BL, I'm still watching Love Beneath the Stars and Spare Me Your Mercy. I started Gelboys too. But tonight I watched half of a GL movie, so I'm actually on track with challenges, more or less.
I have my work cut out for me for the month and year. But if I ever get out of drama land, at least I can say I've had my fill of BL and GL. 😂
@DaBao
Thanks. I plan on doing the official MDL Challenge, the BL/GL challenges and the mini series challenge. I did have dramas planned out for the BL/GL challenges and the mini series challenge but I think I want to redo the mini series challenge and BL challenge and put different dramas for the prompts. I am also doing the 52 week drama challenge but I don't really count that since It is my 5th year doing it. Also good luck with your challenges.
i'm officially 3 episodes into Burnout Syndrome and i'm really loving it so far. as i've said already, i'm very very biased towards gun so i was already excited for this. i haven't seen dew in anything before but i've really been enjoying his performance so far ;) and gun's of course, but that's not a surprise to me. i really love it when shows/movies write flirting in a way that's a little more unconventional so i was excited to see a bit of that happening with gun and off's characters. i really like their chemistry so far, they really match each others' freaks in a way that i very much enjoy. also very very happy to see some anti-AI sentiment being expressed. i'm curious how the topic will continue to be handled throughout the series. so far i'm honestly rooting for both dew and off's characters so even if it's a pretty low chance, i will be hoping for throuple ending. or at least a messy threesome? i'd take that also :)
i've also started Dare You to Death, i'm about halfway through the second episode currently. honestly it's not really holding my attention all that well. i also have some issues with the writing of the characters but i won't get into detail about that for now. the shining light however is having joong back on my screen. he's nice enough to look at that it almost keeps me distracted from the things i find annoying haha. and his chemistry with dunk is ofc always great to watch. i'll keep watching for now and trying to keep an open mind about it.
